Moneyball came out in 2011 and told the real life story of the Oakland Athletics's general manager, Billy Bean and how through the use of Saber Metrics found more affordable players for a team that didn't have a lot of resources to afford the more expensive players. Through these techniques the A's were able to build a  competitive team that eventually went to the playoffs.
