In America, presidential primaries don't officially begin until February of the election year. But we all know that presidential campaigns go on for years before that. In mid-August, the Democratic Party announced Vice President Kamala Harris as their nominee after incumbent President Joe Biden stepped down. Voters didn't choose this. The party did. Caitlin Jewitt wonders how this will impact the way that political elites nominate future presidential hopefuls. Plus: Presidents have to know how to take a joke. And how to tell one about themselves. Steve Farnsworth says that many young people are finding their way into understanding the political landscape one joke at a time. Later in the show: Gen Z is exceptionally active in protests and rallying people around causes that matter to them. But surveys show that they're not quite as active at the polls. Xiaowen Xu says this might be because they don't feel heard or represented by current presidential candidates. And: Political party identification is the unmoved mover. It rarely changes. Except when it does. Daniel Reed says that some things can affect how we show up at the polls.
This week EquiTeam's Liz Daniels chats to Daniel Reed, from DAR Vet Physio to find out more about equine salt therapy. After investing in the medical-certified equine salt therapy system (New Market Salt Therapy System), Daniel explains how the system works, the benefits to the horse and what it can be used to treat. Although Daniel stresses this is not a replacement for veterinary advice and treatment, the complimentary system which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects can be used to soothe skin conditions, help with allergies and pollen, promote a healthier respiratory system, and can boost overall performance. Guest hosting this episode is, me, Jeremy Reed, SoundLore producer, and occasionally a joked-about long lost Reed family member. In 2006, inspired by the success of business process outsourcing company Office Tiger, which RR Donnelley acquired that year for $250 million, Ajay Agrawal and Daniel Reed founded UnitedLex, one of the earliest legal process outsourcing companies. Within months, it was providing legal services to clients such as HP, IBM and Microsoft. Within four years, the company had achieved a valuation of $100 million. But Agrawal was becoming increasingly intrigued by a problem a client had described to him as one of “contract education” — the gap between the promises made in an organization’s contracts and the promises ultimately delivered. It is a problem, he estimates, into losses for businesses of $2-3 trillion a year. So in 2011, he sold his stake in UnitedLex to begin working on a solution. That led him to found SirionLabs in 2012, where he is using artificial intelligence technology to disrupt the field of enterprise contract lifecycle management. In May, the company raised $44 million in a Series C round, bringing its total raise to $66 million. Just this month, it announced several patent-pending upgrades to its AI technology. Based in New York City, Agrawal recently joined me from New Delhi, India, where he is awaiting travel restrictions to lift so he can return home. To find out, Federal News Radio's Scott Maucione talks with First Reconnaissance Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Carl Maymi, 13th Reconnaissance Squadron Formal Training Unit Commander Maj. Today's show is perhaps one of the most important we've ever done at TMCP, and frankly speaking - it's the real reason this show started in the first place. Our guest is Brandon Bailey, a man I've never met in person but one that I was convinced my my great friend Kirk Hansen that I needed to know. Brandon had just purchased Kirk's Firebird in order to restore it as the feature car for a very-soon upcoming fundraiser to raise money in memoriam for the family of his best friend Daniel. This is the story of that journey. Branden Bailey had a best friend, Daniel Reed and they met at a sandlot baseball game before they were teenagers. These two became best friends as close as brothers and did everything together. They grew up riding bikes, playing football, and watching Smokey and the Bandit enough to wear out the tape. When Daniel was offered a 1980 Firebird his dreams of a car like in the movie came true. The boys spent many hours changing motors and fixing on the Firebird and driving around having a great time. Daniel was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle to work and passed away. Local friends and relatives put together a memorial run to raise money for his 8 year old son and wife that he left behind. Branden said around 70 cars showed up for the drive and everyone had a great time.
