Though things may look different, they still stay the same. Our four heroes go back to the 90's to cover Toei's original Yu-Gi-Oh! adaptation and use their power to entertain you while they cover it! This week we ACTUALLY start by talking about a bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh! news, clap at one of the best arcs in this part of the series, and wonder what's going on with that kid from school. It's time for a buzzworthy good time as we get into a movie that changed and really cut into the horror genre: James Wan and Leigh Whannel's Saw (2004)! Character analyses, Jigsaw's motives, Danny Glover being typecast, the legacy of the Saw franchise and how well Saw would've worked if it was a standalone film rather than a series—these are just some of the "rules" discussed in this game of an episode, as well as a hello from one of our interns! Happy listening, Critters!Timestamps3:34 - Negronomicon25.20 - Crit1:31:19 - Final CurlsFind Us Online- Website: www.scarycritpodcast.com- Twitter: http://twitter.com/scarycritpodcast- Instagram: http://instagram.com/scarycritpodcast Credits- Host and Producer: Lauren La Melle - instagram.com/laurenlamelle | twitter.com/laurenlamelle | Website: www.laurenlamelle.com- Host and Editor: Jared Hudson - instagram.com/blossomsandbooks93 |- Production Intern: Andrew Fernie- Communications Intern: Mikayla WellsGems from Episode 65RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars (2012)Wayne's World (1992)WWE: Monday Night Raw (1993)South Park (1997)Nope (2022)Halloween Ends (2022)Fargo (2014)Power of the Dog (2021)Breaking Bad (2008)Us (2019)Black Panther (2018)Get Out (2017)Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)Ant-Man: Quantamania (2023)Loki (2021)Ms. Marvel (2022)Moon Knight (2022)Yu-Gi-Oh! With the recent tragic passing of "Yu-Gi-Oh!" series creator, Kazuki Takahashi, this week we reflect on the legacy of his iconic franchise, from its manga origins to what is now one of the most popular trading card games & multimedia franchises on the planet."Yu-Gi-Oh!" tells the story of Yugi Motoh, a timid, kind, young gamer with an iconic spiky hairdo who becomes possessed by the vengeful spirit of an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh, who becomes Yugi's alter ego as he battles his opponents in Duel Monsters, a card game that went on to inspire the real-life TCG we know as "Yu-Gi-Oh!" today. On this episode, we're joined by our friend, pro-duelist, and all-around YGO-aficionado Jake Carlin (@RubyQuartzVsr) to discuss the BREADTH of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s queer content. From it's queer origins & punk/leather aesthetic inspirations, to its themes of identity & self-acceptance, it's wide range of queer-coded characters, and just generally why it is soooo LGBTQ vibes to duel someone in a heated card game with giant holographic monsters (+ how Seto Kaiba advances the course of human technology by decades just because he is obsessed with dueling his Egyptian pharaoh bf.) Jake also tells us about the queer Yu-Gi-Oh! gaming community today; duelists around the world still bound together by the Heart of the Cards.========Get in touch with us!EMAIL US at gayforplaypodcast@gmail.comFOLLOW G4P Twitter: @GayForPlayPodInstagram: @GayForPlayPodTwitch: twitch.tv/gayforplaypodSupport the Show & Unlock Bonus Episodes on our PATREON========CREDITSIntro and outro music by Connor Marsh (@connorjmarshmallow)Show art by Benny Kessler (@retro.spectacle.studio)Special thanks to our patrons: Blueberri Mary, Elijah Punzal, Trevor McTavish & Martha Turner
Yugioh Go Rush (episode 1) We may be about Duel Monsters over here, but for this bonus we sampled the most recent Yugioh spinoff series and boy... it went some places. Listen in to hear us (attempt to) explain the alien vs girlboss conflict, how to get an 8.8 million catboy cheer squad, what Rush Dueling is, and why this is all secretly Kaiba's fault. Plus we trip down a wikia hole and learn some strange facts about Yugioh Sevens as well. SHOW NOTES: - Since we record these way in advance we said that the dub of Sevens is "about to start", but as of this podcast's release date, Sevens has started airing and you can stream the first half of the season on Hulu.

s1e12-13 "Evil Spirit of the Ring" It's the first Bakura centered episode of Duel Monsters and oh boy, the Lore is going to drive us off the deep end in this one. We also discover some surprising dub/sub differences and really wish we were camping in the woods. Plus, chat about other manga that you might enjoy.
There is practically no TV show more formative in our elementary school years than Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, and that's in no small part to the immensely popular Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game that swept the nation back in 2002, which all of us played - religiously. The show is also a hilariously messy and wacky story about Yugi, a boy who plays a life-or-death monsters game that, frankly, doesn't have any rules, and how the power of friendship and belief in the Heart of the Cards practically guarantee Yugi's success in every duel he fights. Shout out as well to Joey's ridiculous Boston accent, weird friendship hand drawings, the gang's IRL experiences with R A R E C A R D S, and a Yu-Gi-Oh themed Trivia Corner! Content warning: strong language.
Episode Notes We're here! We watched the 1999 TV movie simply titled Yu-Gi-Oh!, which provides a sort of bridge from "season 0" to the main show everyone knows, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters! What a waste of time this movie was. It's kind of funny, really. Join us in two weeks for the first three episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters!
