What's up, Ghost Hunters? This week on the podcast, we dive into the haunted history of 13 Ghosts from 1960 and its 2001 remake, Thir13en Ghosts. We explore how William Castle's campy original introduced audiences to haunted house gimmicks like Illusion-O and playful ghost designs, while Steve Beck's remake turned up the intensity with brutal supernatural horror, complex ghost backstories, and a darker tone. From the playful mystery of the original's haunted inheritance to the remake's twisted mythology involving the Black Zodiac and the Ocularis Infernum, we break down the key differences in tone, ghost design, and storytelling. We also discuss how the 2001 remake achieved cult status despite mixed reviews. Which version holds up better? Tune in to find out — and let us know which one you prefer!

Actor Matthew Lillard (SCREAM, SCOOBY-DOO, THIR13EN GHOSTS, SLC PUNK!, SERIAL MOM, HACKERS, FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S, WITHOUT A PADDLE, SHE'S ALL THAT, THE DESCENDANTS, and so much more!) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen in the ArieScope Studio for THE MOVIE CRYPT's milestone 600th episode. From the acting class in 7th grade that sparked Matthew's love of performing… to how he didn't let a learning disability or failing out of college curb his ambition or his belief in himself… to starting a theater company with friends and creating a community that would provide them with opportunities to perform… to quitting his day job the very night that he booked his first big film role (John Waters' SERIAL MOM)… to how he avoided the typical Hollywood pitfalls and personal hardships that so many young actors unfortunately find themselves falling into…to why he sees the goal of his craft as serving each story's director rather than serving himself as an actor… to auditioning for Wes Craven's SCREAM and how he looks back on his performance as “Stu” now… to why he thinks SCREAM's lasting longevity has so much to do with the film's decision to fully embrace the time period it was made in… to his experience in the director's chair for 2012's FAT KID RULES THE WORLD and the long process he went through to produce the film… to one of the best stories you'll ever hear about the making of SCOOBY-DOO and why “friends don't quit”… to the creation of his FIND FAMILIAR SPIRITS company which provides fandoms with genre themed direct-to-customer whisky (“Quest's End” and “Sandkheg's Hide” for Dungeons & Dragons fans) and tequila (“Macabre Spirits” for horror fans)… to the true value of fame, why hugs are so important, and why getting the opportunity to meet fans at conventions is an experience he can't imagine living without… Matthew is the perfect guest for this milestone episode. Our Halloween Spooktacular continues with 2001's Thir13en Ghosts. While still mourning the untimely death of his wife, Arthur Kriticos is informed that his estranged uncle Cyrus has passed away as well. Arthur takes his family to see the mansion that Cyrus left for them, but his late uncle's house is far from ordinary. An avid ghost hunter until his supposed death, Cyrus had turned his home into a glass labyrinth designed specifically for imprisoning spirits. With Arthur and his family trapped inside, the mansion's infernal machinery activates. 12 ghosts are set loose within the house, free to rampage until Cyrus' strange ritual is complete. The blueprints for the machine also mention a thirteenth ghost, one that can either bring the house down entirely…or give Cyrus exactly what he wants.

Nick didn't watch this hunk of crap... Thank god.. Shannon Elizabeth is in it and she's hot, right? I think so... Justin doesn't care for her. Kind of strange.. You'd think he'd take anything he can get these days, but he's very particular. I'm not sure he could do better than Shannon but maybe she's aged poorly or is insufferable... Anyways, 13 ghosts. You're gonna hate it.

For our second watch of October, we watched horror movie classic and remake, Thir13een Ghosts AKA Thirteen Ghosts, starring Tony Shalhoub, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth and Rah Digga. It's cheesy, it's bloody, it's kinda scary, but most of all it's nostalgic with all of your favorite ghosts including Bing Bong Baby and Tits McGee. We talk about each and every ghost, their backgrounds and our thoughts of them and eventually come to the conclusion that we are going to audition to be the 14th and 15th ghosts.
