Watch the best scene reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbYF3iAqTGE A newlywed couple takes on a one time gig to make ends meet and wind up creating America's very first sitcom in the process… based on a true story. Get to know the writer: What is your screenplay about? This is easily the hardest question – there's so much to say about this! This screenplay is a based on the true story of Mary Kay and Johnny Stearns, a couple of Broadway-bound newlyweds living in New York City during the dawn of the small screen. It's an interesting time to be sure – post WWII, there are less TV sets in the U.S. than residents in all of of Manhattan. There's more dead air than actual programming, and anything that does make it to air is done live. The pair manage to get their hands on 15 minutes of precious air-time, and are given carte blanch to make something great with it. They have no idea what they're doing… but, then again, neither does anyone else! What they come up with is a show about their lives, featuring them as, well, themselves. In doing so, they accidentally create America's very first sitcom, breaking barriers that would soon be too taboo to show on screen, from sharing a bed, to sharing a child years before I Love Lucy and The Munsters. … And yet, nobody knows about it! The reason for this is multifold. Some seasons weren't recorded at all, or were recorded with lackluster equipment. Years later, company takeovers resulted in entire reels being thrown out. Of 300 episodes, only one remains. What I'm proposing is a show about the making of this show. This screwball dramedy miniseries would follows the three season timeline of the original, and be in the vein of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but with the self-awareness of Kevin Can Fuck Himself. Send us a textEpisode 518"The Fugitive", "Terrifier 3" and "The Munsters"Actor: Daniel Roebuck. The very kind Dan Roebuck joins me to talk his lengthy acting career from Matlock to Rob Zombie and his role in the iconic "The Fugitive". Plus Dan clears the air once and for all as to what happened with his casting in "Home Alone."Having made his feature film debut starring in the teen comedy Cavegirl Daniel Roebuck quickly realized that there was only one direction to travel in his career. Up!Soon after Cavegirl, Roebuck established himself as one of the industry's youngest character actors with his haunting portrayal as the teenage killer, Samson in The River's Edge.Daniel Roebuck was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, At the age of 10, he started performing in talent shows doing impressions of movie stars he loved. He joined a local circus two years later and made his debut as one of the youngest clowns in the country. Roebuck's clown act eventually segued into a magic act and he performed that throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. His film credits are myriad, having starred in blockbusters like The Fugitive, US Marshals, and Final Destination, as well as popular titles including Agent Cody Banks and it's sequel, That's What I Am, Money Talks, Flash Of Genius and so many more.Lately, Roebuck has enjoyed working in a number of horror movies - his favorite genre. He has collaborated with filmmaker Rob Zombie on Halloween, Halloween 2, Devil's Rejects, and Lords of Salem (as well as a commercial for AMDRO, the insecticide). He also appeared in Don Coscarelli's cult favorite Bubba Ho Tep as well as the director's Reggie's Tales and John Dies At The End.Daniel has also been a familiar face on television for nearly 3 decades, he was a regular for three seasons on the evergreen hit drama, Matlock, portraying attorney 'Cliff Lewis," the junior partner of the law firm headed by Andy Griffith's beloved character, 'Ben Matlock.' Interestingly, his landing the role was the fulfillment of a promise made several years earlier with his first appearance on "Matlock" in its inaugural season. At that time, Roebuck was told that Griffith had been so impressed with his work that he would be back as a regular on the show. It took five seasons, two more guest shots as different characters, and a change of networks, but Griffith kept his promise and Roebuck indeed became a series regular. As a television guest star, Daniel has played countless characters. Some of his most memorable are a cop who literally turns into a pig on Grimm, a Romulan on Star Trek, Next Generation, a gun toting hostage taker on NYPD Blue, a cranky studio owner on Sonny With A Chance and a grieving father on Glee. He played other memorable roles on New Adventures of Old Christine, NCIS, Ghost Whisperer, CSI, Boston Legal, CSI Miami, Law And Order, Desperate Housewives and Hot in Cleveland. On the popular show, Lost, Roebuck portrayed the infamous Dr. Leslie Arzt, the aggravating science teacher whose explosive exit in the finale of the first season remains one of television's most surprising and talked about moments. He has starred in dozens of TV Movies. Perhaps his most famous turn was his critically acclaimed portrayal of Jay Leno in The Late Shift. Welcome, Daniel Roebuckwww.mmcpodcast.com#thefugitive #robzombie #horror #homealone #homealone2 #homealone #christmasmovies #themunsters Reach out to Darek Thomas and Monday Morning Critic!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mondaymorningcritic/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mondaymorningcritic/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mondaymorningcriticMondaymorningcritic@gmail.com

It's a monster mash on this fresh from the grave episode of DEATH BY DVD all about FRANKY AND HIS PALS, directed by Gerald Cormier. What is Franky And His Pals, you ask? Well, let us copy and paste the write up from the official Severinfilms.com website where this movie is available to purchase, because we are to lazy to write something up ourselves and theirs is way better : From the deepest, darkest depths of the shot-on-video vaults… Hidden from view for 30 years… All your favorite movie monsters are back… And they're ready to party like it's 1990! Franky, Drak, Wolfy, Mummy and Humper – the horny hunchback – descend on the tiny mining town of French Gulch in search of lost gold, but it's Halloween Night, and the monsters soon find themselves caught up in the debaucherous festivities of the local townsfolk. Will Franky and His Pals find the gold? Will they learn the ways of love? Will Drak quench his thirst for human blood? Just how explosive is Franky's flatulence? What's that Mad Scientist tinkering on out in his barn? What the hell is a pee-pee? And does any of it really matter? Directed by veteran grindhouse and adult film producer Gerald Cormier (TERROR CIRCUS a.k.a. BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD, 101 ACTS OF LOVE) and seldom-seen beyond the shelves of small-town video shops, this bizarro monster-comedy is finally being resurrected on DVD and is positively exploding with spooky Special Features! And since I copy and pasted all that from Severin, the least I can do is also add the link so you can buy the movie : TAP HERE FOR THE MOVIEDive into the monster mash with your host Harry-Scott Sullivan and kick back and relax with this hoot and an additional hollar of an episode. Barry and Abigail discuss Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Halloween and sample Voodoo Ranger Juice Force, Voodoo Ranger Peach Force IPA, and Voodoo Ranger Tropic Force IPA from New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Most Popular IPA in the Country Is Voodoo Ranger. So Is the Second. Abigail first saw a live performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Gainesville, Florida, at the late great High Dive. Read more about this historic music venue! Barry compared Every Day is Halloween by Ministry to Midnight Oil (perhaps Arctic World or Sell My Soul?). We granted one credit at the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music to F.O.T.P. Joe Turocey for his comparison of Superfine by Cloud Eleven to Life on Mars? by David Bowie. Barry revealed to Abigail that Danny Elfman is the lead singer of Oingo Boingo. Barry and Abigail recognized Elfman's vocals in Dead Man's Party in Jack's Obsession and Poor Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack, respectively. We listened to the original Halloween Theme - Main Title by John Carpenter to compare it to the version by MX-80 Sound. We also listened to several different interpretations of The Munsters theme to compare them to the version by Comateens. We shared the original TV show theme, as well as interpretations by Los Straitjackets, Herman and the Humans, The Escalators, and The Coffin Daggers. Barry shared a clip of Dave Edmunds' biggest hit, I Hear You Knocking, as well as the original by Fats Domino. Abigail entered The Creature From the Black Lagoon by Dave Edmunds into the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music with a comparison to Goin' or Comin' by Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass Kickin Team. After listening to Halloween by Sonic Youth, we listened to a clip of their song Kool Thing, which appears on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. After listening to Halloween by Dead Kennedys, we listened to a clip of their song Holiday in Cambodia, which also appears on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock! Up next… Empire by Queensrÿche, submitted to our Jukebox by Aaron “The Farmer” Dahlstedt! Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe. Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition. Rocking Halloween III - A What the Riff Rabbit Hole

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 28, 2024 50:16

What The Riff?!? makes another scary trip down the Halloween rabbit hole with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre.  We hope you enjoy this third edition of "Halloween" from What the Riff?!? Highway to Hell by AC/DC  The opening track to the 1979 album of the same name features Bon Scott on his last album as lead singer of the group before his untimely death.  The name of the song was inspired by the group's gruesome touring schedule.Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue  The Crue's 1983 breakthrough album of the same name would establish them as one of the most successful metal bands of the 80's.  The song was controversial, with many believing that it encouraged devil worship, though the lyrics themselves do not explicitly do so.Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins  Off their breakout album "Siamese Dream," this song references "the killer in me is the killer in you" is inspired by Billy Corgan's contemplation of his negligent parents and suicide.  The lyrics "cut that little child" caused the song to be banned by the BBC.Demons by Imagine Dragons  This song off Imagine Dragons' major label debut studio album became their second top 10 single.  It is really not about demons in the Halloween sense, but more the tragedies of life like abuse, PTSD, and mental illness.Voodoo by Godsmack  The third single from Godsmack's self-titled debut album was inspired by Wes Craven's film “The Serpent and the Rainbow.”  This song became Dave Bautista's theme song as Leviathan when he was in the WWE.  Mommy's Little Monster by Social Distortion  The title track from Social Distortion's debut album tells a horror tale of a kid becoming a punk rocker.  It is another song about dealing with personal demons rather than the supernatural. Witch Wolf by Styx  Early in their career Styx put out this song to lead off their third album, “The Serpent is Rising.”  James Young takes lead vocal duties on this song that tells about a person accursed by a creature called the witch wolf, and night rider.Dragula by Rob Zombie  The lead single from Rob Zombie's debut album may be his biggest hit.  The audio clip at the beginning of the song is taken from the 1960 horror film “The City of the Dead.”  The name comes from the TV sitcom "The Munsters," where Grandpa Munster has a dragster called "Drag-u-la."The theme to the TV series "Twilight Zone" This menagerie of bizarre tales from the early days of TV still has staying power in our sci-fi culture. Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones  Mick Jagger walks us through a discussion with Old Scratch himself in this well-known classic from the Stones' catalogue.  The idea is a narrative from Satan's point of view as he reviews historical events. That Old Black Magic by Frank Sinatra  Old Blue Eyes gave us this romantic song with a Halloween bent.  It was a jazz classic originally written in 1942 with lyrics penned by Johnny Mercer.  Love is "that old black magic" in this tune.Night of the Vampire by Roky Erickson  From this cult classic album "The Evil One," this song is one of a plethora of horror-oriented tracks on the album.  Erickson spent a significant amount of time in mental institutions. The Kill (Bury Me) by Thirty Seconds to Mars  Jared Leto, front man for the group (and perhaps better known as an actor today), has said this song is about the relationship you have with yourself, and confronting the dark side of who you are.Take Me to Church by Hozier  This haunting hit song compares falling in love with a kind of death, and compares the lover to a kind of religion. Thanks for listening to “What the Riff?!?” NOTE: To adjust the loudness of the music or voices, you may adjust the balance on your device. VOICES are stronger in the LEFT channel, and MUSIC is stronger on the RIGHT channel. Please follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/whattheriffpodcast/, and message or email us with what you'd like to hear, what you think of the show, and any rock-worthy memes we can share.Of course we'd love for you to rate the show in your podcast platform!**NOTE: What the Riff?!? does not own the rights to any of these songs and we neither sell, nor profit from them. We share them so you can learn about them and purchase them for your own collections.

Daniel Roebuck has been in over 250+ (combined) TV SHOWS AND MOVIES LIKE : THE LOVEBOAT, THE FUGATIVE (w/Harrison ford), LOST, ROB ZOMBIE'S THE MUNSTERS and most recently he has appeared this year on 9-1-1 (in their 3 part season opener; earlier in the year) and the current #1 movie in America TERRIFIER 3! Daniel has wanted to be an actor since the age of 6. Daniel grew up near us in Bethlehem, PA so we got to talk about his start as a magician and as a teen first working and becoming friends with James Whitmore.   We talk in detail about his first motion picture Cavegirl.  One person who happened to see the movie and noticed how funny Daniel was and one thing led to another and that was the stepping stone to bigger things! We go through Daniel's great career and even ask him some music questions. We talk Munsters, Terrifier 3 and even talk about The Honeymooners! This week's show kicks off our annual celebration of Gothtober in a grand way! Your favorite fiends welcome local Atlanta goth legend Matt Spatial from Now After Nothing who provides us with some tunes that show a true appreciation of the grim and ghastly! That's right, everything turns grey as they once again explore the dark and ethereal world of Goth Rock…What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection, an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.Songs this week include:Bauhaus – “Sanity Assassin” from Sanity Assassin - Single (1983)Astari Nite – “Tongue Tied Galore” from Resolution Of Happiness (2024)Switchblade Symphony – “Bad Trash” from Serpentine Gallery (1995)Curse Mackey – “Lacerations” from Immoral Emporium (2022)Al1ce – “Wide Awake” from The Thirteenth Hour (2018)Now After Nothing – “Fixation Fantasy” from Artificial Ambivalence (2024)If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=u

The Addams Family debuted as a one-panel cartoon in The New Yorker on 6th August, 1938. Created by Charles Addams, the family (who for decades were essentially archetypes, without character names) were a satirical inversion of the ideal postwar American middle-class nuclear family, delighting in the macabre, and seemingly unaware or unconcerned that other people find them bizarre or frightening. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain how the Addamses finally got their TV names; consider the on-screen rivalry between their show and the similarly-themed The Munsters; and recall MC Hammer's SEMINAL interpretation of their iconic theme tune… Further Reading: • ‘Charles Addams Cartoons Are Far Darker Than The Addams Family Films' (Den of Geek, 2021): https://www.denofgeek.com/culture/charles-addams-cartoons-darker-than-the-addams-family/ • ‘Charles Addams' (The New Yorker, 2010); https://www.newyorker.com/cartoons/bob-mankoff/charles-addams • ‘The Addams Family: Wednesday Leaves Home' (MGM, 1964): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxZgUp-E0fo&list=PLwwhtOnMyjuxQy81h7uJMCdsR-bS-uVaD&index=5 This episode first premiered in 2023, for members of
