The first interview edition of the podcast in the 2017 season. PodVader will present interviews every Wednesday through the season to compliment the weekly previews (Thursdays) and recaps (Monday mornings). This week, it's all about Week 1.Josh Brisco (@jbbrisco on Twitter), host of Roughing the Kicker podcast and Almost Entirely Sports on ESPN Kansas City, acquiesces that the Chiefs will lose this first matchup. But Pod wants to go somewhere else first - Patrick Mahomes. Josh is excited about the future and Pod is still not sold. They discuss what should Chiefs fans be looking for if they're going into this game accepting a loss. Next (around the 18:45 mark), Matthew Freedman (@mattftheoracle), Editor in Chief at Fantasy Labs and RotoViz podcast producer, jumps in as Pod's first opponent in the BlogTalkRadio Fantasy Football Expert League. They discuss their matchups and which players they have their eyes on. They also talk about the concept of "Expert" leagues and the strategies to take going into Week 1 of the season. Finally (around the 34:43 mark), Nick (Chiefs) and Patrick (Patriots) go at it in the first SuperFan Battle of the season. Both fans think this is going to be a close game. Nick thinks the Chiefs will win (of course) while Patrick says the Chiefs will have a shot, only to blow it with bad game management (of course). On this episode of Roughing the Kicker, Joshua Brisco recaps Thursday's thrilling preseason performance from Patrick Mahomes and discusses what it means to be a "quarterback moderate." On this episode of Roughing the Kicker, Joshua Brisco talks with Seth Keysor of Arrowhead Pride and Brandon Kiley of 101 ESPN in St. Louis about why Patrick Mahomes should start in 2017. No, seriously. Why start Patrick Mahomes in week one? Why not? ...Seriously, why not?Arguments against starting Patrick Mahomes have become tired and misguided. Would Mahomes benefit from a year behind Alex Smith? Probably. But how much? Eventually, Patrick Mahomes is going to play his first year in the NFL, and there will be growing pains. Why would the Chiefs voluntarily delay the timeline to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender by holding Mahomes out this season? Sitting behind Alex Smith will not let Mahomes skip his rookie struggles. Playing time will challenge Mahomes, and I don't see the Chiefs as a Super Bowl contender until at least Mahomes' second NFL season. The Chiefs could bring those days sooner.Concerns with Mahomes' footwork are overblown. Mahomes can read defenses. And there will be problems, growing pains, and interceptions. But where better for Mahomes to jump in than on a team ready-made to make a playoff run?For more, tune in to (Almost) Entirely Sports with Joshua Brisco on ESPN Kansas City: 99.3 FM, 1510 AM or 1510.com, weekdays from 4-6 p.m.twitter.com/jbbrisco
