Last year's AFC Championship Game participants meet Sunday night in a Week 5 battle at Arrowhead Stadium, and there's plenty on the line for the Chiefs and Bills. After consecutive losses, Kansas City got back on track at Philadelphia last weekend and is eager to prove it remains the AFC favorite. Buffalo was the Chiefs' top competition in the conference last season, and the Bills are out to prove they're finally capable of beating the two-time AFC champions. So many storylines: Through four games, both sides have been terrific on offense, and Buffalo's defense is the NFL's best rated. The Chiefs have added wide receiver, former NFL standout Josh Gordon, to their roster. And on and on it goes. We discussed all of this on Friday's SportsBeat Live stream with beat writers Herbie Teope and Sam McDowell and KC Star sports columnists Sam Mellinger and Vahe Gregorian. That conversation is presented here as today's SportsBeat KC podcast. Story links: Ideally, here's how Josh Gordon fits into Chiefs' offense Chiefs' keys to victory vs. Bills, by Herbie Teope Nick Bolton, Chiefs hope Willie Gay Jr., can help a defense that's been a “little bleedy” Learn more about your ad choices. Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro TE Travis Kelce and Rich discuss the popularity of the Peyton and Eli Manning Monday Night Football ‘Manningcast' and if he and his brother, Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce, would consider doing their own ‘Kelcecast' football commentary, KC's shocking 1-2 start and how Andy Reid kept the ship steady as the Chiefs head into their HUGE Week 5 AFC Championship Game rematch against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.    In his Week 4 ‘Overreaction Monday' segment Rich weighs in on if the Cardinals should be considered Super Bowl favorites, if Mac Jones is the best rookie QB from this year's draft class, if the Steelers should trade for Deshaun Watson, if the Bills are the best team in the AFC, if Jimmy Garoppolo is likely to lose his starting job to Trey Lance if he misses any time with a calf injury, and if the Chiefs' porous defense will keep them from reaching the Super Bowl again.   Rich comments on Kyler Murray and the Cardinals impressive thumping of the previously unbeaten Rams in Week 4 and explains why Arizona is a big problem for the rest of the NFL, and wonders if Murray, a former Oakland A's top prospect, has any regrets about choosing the NFL over baseball. Super Bowl LV is set. Tom Brady will be back on the big stage, but this time leading a different team from a different conference. Meanwhile, the defending champs will look to defend their crown. The Bucs beat the Packers and the Chiefs beat the Bills to get to our matchup in Tampa in two weeks. On this episode, Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to break down the conference championship games and look ahead to the Super Bowl. First, the guys have to discuss Matt LaFleur's decision making at the end of the NFC Championship Game (3:00). Why kick in that situation? Aaron Rodgers distanced himself from the decision and our crew tends to do the same. They also break down defensive lapses from the Packers and Kevin King, a somewhat controversial late pass interference call and much more. Rodgers outplayed Brady, but that didn't lead to the result you'd think. Then, the Pick Six Superfriends analyze Kansas City's dominant defeat of Buffalo and ability to flip the switch in the AFC Championship Game (34:00). Andy Reid could be the best coach on the planet right now and his team is clicking headed back to another Super Bowl. Brinson, Wilson and Breech begin to set the scene for Tampa with much more to come on the Pick Six podcast. Finally, they finish with winners & losers from championship Sunday (55:30). Three years, three AFC Championship Games for the Chiefs. On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills arrive at Arrowhead Stadium for a 5:40 p.m. kickoff and this one comes with its own set of questions: Patrick Mahomes’ health, the meaning of these teams’ regular-season game in Week 6, and the Bills’ hot hand over the past three months. Star columnists Vahe Gregorian and Sam Mellinger, along with beat writers Sam McDowell and Herbie Teope, join host Blair Kerkhoff in covering all the angles for this game (including their predictions). Viewers joined us with their questions and comments on a livestreamed show that started as a SportsBeat Live and is now presented here as a SportsBeat KC podcast. John Daigle, Pat Daugherty and Hayden Winks join Matt Stroup to look ahead to this weekend's NFC and AFC title games, starting with Tom Brady and the Bucs going to Lambeau to face Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. We discuss why this game will likely be different from Green Bay's 38-10 loss to Tampa in October, why there's no stopping Davante Adams, and what makes the Green Bay backfield a challenge for DFS purposes. Meanwhile, with questions surrounding Patrick Mahomes (concussion, toe) ahead of the AFC title game, we consider whether we're headed for a Mahomes-Josh Allen shootout despite some recent turbulence for both offenses.

Drew Brees Goes Out with a Whimper, Rough Night for the Ravens & More NFL Divisional Round Reaction

On today's episode, Jason brings you wall-to-wall commentary on all the NFL Divisional Playoff round action. First, let's pour one out for Drew Brees who delivered what may have been his worst performance of the decade in what was likely the final of his career on Sunday night against Tampa Bay. Brees had 3 costly turnovers that ultimately sealed the Saints' fate, and Tom Brady and the Buccaneers were happy to capitalize. Speaking of Brady, he wasn't great, but he made the plays when his team needed them the most and walked away with the victory (as he usually does). All of that set the stage for the NFC Championship Game matchup that we've all been hoping more: Tom Brady vs Aaron Rodgers. Get your popcorn ready! In the early game, the Kansas City Chiefs found a way to get the win over the Cleveland Browns but the big story is the health of Patrick Mahomes. The reigning Super Bowl MVP left the game early with a concussion and now his availability for the AFC Championship Game is up in the air. Until we know if Mahomes is going to play or not, you should avoid betting on that game. Moving over to Saturday's action, the big story has to be the Ravens' coughing up the game to the Buffalo Bills. Justin Tucker never misses field goals in the playoffs... and yet he missed 2 on Saturday; Lamar Jackson never throws red zone interceptions... and yet he threw one that essentially ended the game. The Bills beat the Ravens fair and square, but given the way the game played out, Jason would bet on Baltimore again if they had a rematch. Finally, Jason closes the show with some thoughts on the latest head coaching hires around the NFL. The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers both made their choices official, but there's only one that fans should feel good about. Take a listen to find out which. Another week, another LSU Tiger on All Things Covered. Ryan Clark shares the same college as Patrick Peterson and once shared the same dorm room at Steelers Training Camp with Bryant McFadden (34:15). The guys chat about those LSU days, RC playing safety alongside Sean Taylor and Troy Polamalu and the top safeties in the league today. But first, we unfortunately have to recap the unceremonious end to the Arizona Cardinals season (1:30). Pat breaks down how big a blow it was to lose Kyler Murray on the opening drive, the job the defense did vs. backup John Wolford and some questionable calls and no calls surrounding DeAndre Hopkins. P2 then sums up the season as a whole and addresses his future as he is set to become a free agent this offseason. Could Sunday have been his final game in a Cardinals uniform? The guys then tackle news from around the league (19:30), including Doug Pederson's curious and somewhat obvious tanking effort to gift wrap Washington the NFC East. Should players lose respect over that move? We also examine what it's like to go through a coaching change and look ahead to the most dangerous teams in the playoffs. Next, it's time to welcome our guest, Ryan Clark (34:15). Ryan details what led to him signing with the Tigers and then credits Pat for creating the legacy of 'DBU'. RC played for Nick Saban in college and knew 20 years ago that he was destined to become one of the greatest coaches ever. The conversation shifts to Ryan's time in the league and the relationship he formed with Sean Taylor. He believes Taylor could have gone down as one of the greatest safeties of all time. We revisit the torturous 2007 Steelers Training Camp led by Mike Tomlin and a life-changing incident that happened to Ryan in Denver later that season. RC is known for his big hits, but there was none bigger than the one he put on Willis McGahee in the 2008 AFC Championship Game. The memory is foggy due to the play, but BMac clearly remembers. We finish with superlatives and learn the player Ryan wishes he could have laid a hit on and the best player he ever played with!  'All Things Covered' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow Pat on Instagram and Twitter Follow BMac on Instagram and Twitter Produced by: @E_DeBerardinis Visit the All Things Covered YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/allthingscovered For more NFL coverage from CBS Sports, visit https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/ To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ Learn more about your ad choices.
