Hello, I'm an over thinker (read I worry too much). I play out in my mind bad things that MAY happen (but probably won't). And all that limits my faith in the God who loves me and is more than able.

"Facing Challenges and Hardships" John 16 - February 17, 2023 - Tara Prather Read Here: https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/JHN.16.NIV . Welcome to the Daily SOAP from New Hope. This is Tara Prather, your guest host for today, Friday, February 17th. Today we are reading from John, chapter 16 and continuing our discussion on Facing Challenges and Hardships. I encourage you to take the time to read the entire chapter if you have not already done so. In this part of the book of John, Jesus has been preparing his disciples for his departure. He is warning them about all of the hard times they will be facing once he's gone. I'm going to read the verses we will focus on for today: verses 22-24: “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Faither will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” In this chapter, Jesus is trying to prepare his disciples for what is about to happen. He warns them of the trials and hardships they will face once he is departed from them. But the message is ultimately a message of hope. Jesus assures his disciples that he will see them again and that the Holy Spirit will be with them after he leaves them. Today, we can be assured that the Holy Spirit lives in us and around us, to help us navigate our challenges and our hardships. There will always be grief, disappointment & failures in our lives, but we can trust in Jesus and know that through the Holy Spirit he is there when we call on him for help. Let us pray, Father, we thank you for sacrificing so much for us. We thank you for being there with us and carrying us through our tough times. As we face the challenges ahead, let us remember to call on you for guidance, peace and support. In the holy name of Jesus, amen. . https://www.findnewhope.com Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Each day, we read one or two chapters of Scripture and focus on one particular verse. We make some observations about how that verse touches us, discern how it applies to our lives, and offer a prayer related to what we have read. -- Donate via PayPal to support the podcasts and the Technical Arts Ministry of New Hope! https://goo.gl/o2a9oU Subscribe at: http://www.findnewhope.com/soap (813) 689-4161 keywords: devotional, bible study
Scripture For Today: Lamentations 3:8“Even when I cry out or call for help, he shuts out my prayer!”Pray with All Kinds of Prayer pt 5We have been studying about “Prayer that changes THINGS.” We have been looking at the four sub-category of prayers under “Prayer that changes things.” Yesterday, we looked at “The Prayer of Petition and Supplication.” Today, I want to discuss the “Prayer of Dedication and Worship.” Jesus prayed a prayer of dedication in Luke 22:42. He said, “Faither, if you be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done.” Jesus never prayed, “IF it be Thy will, Father…” when He was praying for people to be healed. You cannot find one instance where He prayed that way. He never “asked God” if it was His will to heal anyone. He did not ask God if it was His will to quiet the raging seas. WHY? Because He knew it was God's Will to destroy the works of the devil everywhere He went! And God's PERFECT WILL was expressed in and through Jesus Himself! Amen! The prayer of dedication for a believer concerns God's will or plan for their life. You must seek the will of God and be open to receiving the answer. Pray in faith and receive in faith. The prayer of dedication IS NOT a “rededication of your life” to the Lord. NO! It is yielding yourself to God. Yielding does not mean “surrender.” It does not mean to “surrender under pressure” when the devil brings some negative circumstances into your life and you're trying to “Get God” to do something! The ONLY time you are to surrender is to Jesus when you first make Him Lord and Savior of your life. Amen! Your spirit man dies and is then recreated in the image of Jesus Himself. You become ONE with His Spirit. Amen! He the resides on the inside of you. Yield yourself to the Lord. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting ALL your cares upon Him; for HE cares for YOU!” Amen! Cast your cares of this world over on Him. He can handle it, believe me. As you humble yourself before Him, you are exalting the Word above whatever the situation is you are facing! That is what Jesus did in the Garden. Amen! As a result, the Word of God, the Will of God, prevailed in the Garden and at the Cross and after the Cross and after the Resurrection – and it continues to prevail unto this day! Amen! And it will prevail in your life when you do the same thing. Humble yourself to His will and claim the victory in Jesus! Amen! There is another area of dedication as well. It involves putting on the Armor of God. The Word says the breastplate you wear is the Righteousness of Jesus. Jesus – who knew no sin – was MADE SIN to you could be made the righteousness of God in Him. Receive this and dedicate yourself to believing it – you will win every single time! Amen! Let's Pray! For the latest of our Glasgow Film Festival Podcasts Ali spoke to Australian filmmaker Heather Croall about her documentary 'Yer Old Faither' which, as the title suggests, is about her Glaswegian born Dad who took the family to settle in the infamous industrial city of Whyalla, Australia. It's a deeply personal film which will be nevertheless be relatable to all, and which uses home movies, family pictures, animation, and Heather's own footage, to tell a tale about one man's apparently ordinary life yet one which touched the lives of a whole community in extraordinary ways. It's a fascinating conversation about a fantastic film, one which we hope will persuade you to see the film for yourself.
What do you need? It's easy to ask but difficult to answer because few of us really know what we need. We think we need a new outfit, a more loving partner, more food, sex, sleep or security. In this whirly and twirly COVID world, our longings leave us discontent and disconnected from what our hearts really need.Join Robin for this R&R as she discusses why it's so important to know what we need and hear her practical tips on how to get it. SHOW NOTES:Prayer Robin uses during her quiet times:May TODAY (in this moment, right now, the present) there be PEACE (tranquility, shalom, serenity, calm, freedom from disturbances or distractions) WITHIN (inside of me).May I TRUST (have confidence, faith, acceptance without evidence or investigation) GOD (my creator, sustainer, Faither, provider, El Shaddi; the Almighty, El Elyon; the Most High, Yahweh; the Great I Am, our victory, our warrior, our sacrificial lamb, our Shalom; peace, our Shepherd, sanctifier, and our righteousness) that I am EXACTLY (precisely, accurately, entirely, without discrepancy) where I am meant to be.May I not FORGET (neglect or stop considering) the INFINITE (boundless, impossible to measure or calculate, limitless, immense) POSSIBILITIES (promises, alternatives, likelihoods, potentials) that are born BORN (come to life often through a painful process, awakened) of FAITH (complete trust, complete confidence, unwavering belief)May I USE (display to accomplish a purpose or achieve a result for your glory) the GIFTS (something given freely without payment, a donation, a natural ability or talent) that I have RECEIVED (taken charge of, be responsible for). And PASS ON (hand over) the LOVE (affection, intense feeling of deep joyful expression, showing care for) that has been given to me. Seasons Greetings to you one and old and speaking of auld, if you’re a supporter with memories of the early to mid 70’s you will recall that it was a changing time for goalkeepers at Celtic. Faither time Ronnie Simpson had retired and Jock was chopping and changing keepers more often than new Rangers change owners. For me I can recall seeing Ally Hunter, Patrick Barclay, Roy Baines and Denis Connaghan all vying for the Number 1 jersey before Big Peter Latchford secured the first choice position and it’s Denis that we turn to for this Christmas Podcast edition. Enjoy…
The Eleventh: "Speedway".In our new show recorded surprisingly soon after the last one (we must have been confused and thought another year had passed), Faither sets forth on another aimless trek along the dusty annals of his withering memory. This time it's about entertainment in ol' Glesca, including going to the Shawfield Dogs and Speedway, roller-skating at the Denny Pally, and crossing aloofly whilst skating in Crossmyloof. We also start down a road we've been avoiding for some time, as we've known it could very well lead to endless soapboxing and statistical analysis - yup, fitba makes its first appearance, and halfway through we sensibly decide to put it off for another show, so if you hate the subject, feel free to skip the next one!
The Twelfth: "Potatoes".Coming only 18 months following our last venture into cyberspace, Faither and I bring you our promised episode about football. Well, except it's actually about food. Stealing excerpts from Maw Broon's nutritious cookbook we make stomachs either rumble or turn with talk of pieces and dripping, finnan haddie, rabbit stew, stovies, and even something pretty rude called 'tickling trout'.We're glad to be back in your ears again so please let us know your own Glasgow food tales and check back soon (or in a few years...) for our next episode. About football?
The Tenth: "Rabbits".In this, the tenth instalment of our regular fortnightly podcast, Faither yaps about holidays in and around Glasgow. So as you can imagine, this involves stories about hunting for small change on the beach, skinning rabbits at scout camp, and, of course, saving up all year to afford a taxi ride to the train station. Nowt like today's expensive breaks to sunnier climates for him, no siree. Up there on his soapbox he'd much prefer the good old summer days of being chucked out the house at 9am and not allowed back in until teatime.Feel free to give us some of your own holiday memories at glasgowgenerations@gmail.com. Thanks for continuing to listen, despite the content...
The Eighth: "Dizzy".In an embarrassing family meltdown of an episode, Faither takes us through his drunken exploits at the Majestic, the Locarno and various other haunts from ol' Glesca in the 50s and 60s, including what happened when the dance halls closed and everyone staggered into midnight mass. This one was supposed to be all about music though, so as usual, that guarantees that we stay on the subject for at least two minutes. Keep the emails coming into glasgowgenerations@gmail.com and we'll try and prompt the auld yin to keep him on track next time...
The Seventh: "Beatstalkers".So after six episodes bursting with many droning tales of lacklustre 'lore in ye olde Glesca, Faither finally gets into his stride. This one marks the start of no doubt twenty shows about his life in music. We start off here yapping about Radio Luxembourg and the pirates of Caroline; we dance around the old Eglington Plaza and the Maryland Jazz Club; get out the old Dancette to play the dusty 45s and 78s; listen to Victor Silvester, Dean Ford and the Gaylords, and, well, a ventriloquist on the radio; and finally sit down before the TV to watch the 6.5 Special and reminisce about getting beaten up at school for defending Tommy Steele.Music to your ears? Erm...
The Fifth: "Peas".It's been a while, so to treat you all for waiting so patiently, this time around we've made sure to talk about the usual nonsense. There's a wealth of useless memories about eating mushy peas at the Barras, playing 'stage coaches' in a coalbunker, the magnificent toys you used to get for handing over rags in the street, why the Broons became the world's first reality series (way before those crazy Osbournes got in on the act), why Faither should have built his career on designing bikes, and there's even some introduction to future episodes where he'll try and convince you that he was the precursor to the Beatles.A welcome return? Err...
