Text us your questions or comments! This Memorial Day, this isn't about barbecues. It's not about three-day weekends. It's about the names etched in stone. It's about the weight of freedom, paid for in blood. It's about refusing to waste what they gave us!They were the voices that will never be heard again. They drew their last breaths in foreign sands, jungle heat, mountain passes, and burning deserts. Some were only 19. Some were husbands and fathers. Some never got to grow old. But they all knew what they were fighting for. They died with rifles clutched to their chests, dog tags soaked in blood and sweat. Some were torn apart by blasts. Others bled out in silence. Many stared at the sky, praying for one more breath that never came. They gave everything—so we could wake up, go home, hold our children, and speak freely. We live because they died!A man is not truly gone if his name is still spoken.Honor isn't just remembering the dead—it's living in a way that proves they didn't die for nothing.Quote of the Day“A hero is someone who has given his life to something bigger than himself.”— Joseph CampbellScripture of the Day“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”— John 15:13 (ESV)How Do We Honor Them?By refusing to waste what they died for.By living boldly, loving deeply, and standing for truth when it's costly.By carrying a torch they can no longer hold.Ways to Honor the FallenSay Their Names – Speak about them. Matt Axelson was a smiling, sandy-haired native of California. In 2000, he entered the Army and became a Navy SEAL.Then 9/11 happened. In the sweltering summer heat of Afghanistan in 2005, Axelson's team was told to capture a senior member of the Taliban. Unfortunately, the team was betrayed by locals sympathetic to the Taliban, and the SEALs found themselves surrounded by upwards of 100 enemy fighters.During a fierce firefight, Axelson was hit in the head and chest, but continued fighting until the end. He died, along with two of his team. Matt's last words were, “Tell Cindy I love her.”He was thinking of his wife. Of his family. He was there in a tough place, far from the green, green grass of home.Joshua 1:9 reminds us, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”The price for living in a wonderful country is high. It's very, very high.No matter our politics—because none of that really matters when we stop and think about heroes like Matt—we can honor them. We appreciate our heroes more than we can say.Let's pray.Lord, we thank you that one day you will wipe all tears from our eyes and death will be no more. In Jesus' name, amen. How can we pray for you today? Members of Team Kerusso meet on a regular basis to pray, and we would be honored to pray for you. Visit Kerusso.com/pray to submit a request.

In this heartfelt episode of America's Heroes Group Digital Media Show, host Col. Dr. Damon Arnold (US Army National Guard, Retired) reflects on the recent tragic collision between an American Airlines jet and a military Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, DC. He pays tribute to the fallen servicemembers and crew, discusses the inherent risks of military service, and highlights the critical role of veterans in securing our nation's freedom. As he recalls his personal experiences as a combat medic in Iraq, he calls for respect, honor, and reflection on the sacrifices made by those in uniform.
Many first responders who dedicate their lives to serving others often end up paying severe consequences, with firefighters having a 9% greater risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14% higher risk of dying from the disease than the general population. When these brave Americans are putting their lives in danger to protect others, they should feel confident their lives and families are valued. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) discuss how they're setting out to do just that through the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act, a piece of bipartisan legislation aiming to secure additional federal funding for the families of first responders who have died or suffered permanent disability from service-related cancers.
