This week on Face the Nation, President Trump says another blue city needs federal protection for agents conducting immigration roundups. How will Americans be impacted by the president's latest announcement? We talk with the head of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Rand Paul, to hear his thoughts on the president's plans. Then, as the clock ticks down again towards a potential government shutdown, this round of the Washington blame game has the potential to hurt more than just the two parties. We ask two key democrats in the Senate, Minnesota's Amy Klobuchar and Virginia's Tim Kaine weigh in on the likelihood of a shutdown and how to avert it. Plus, Mr. Trump put his political opponents on notice after directing his Justice Department to indict former FBI director James Comey for allegedly lying to Congress. But what will be the impact on the federal justice system? Former Trump special counsel in the Russia election interference investigation Ty Cobb gives us insight. Finally, Russia launches another massive attack involving hundreds of drones and missiles on Ukraine's capital city. Republican Congressman Mike Turner just returned from the region and also joins us to discuss his visit and how the US will respond. Send us a textIn this episode, I sit down with Mike Turner and John Lane of Clearly Music to unpack what music supervision actually looks like across film, TV, trailers, and brand advertising. We talk about why Mike—longtime solo music supervisor—has officially teamed up with John under the Clearly Music banner, how they're merging contacts across film/TV and advertising/entertainment marketing, and what that means for productions heading into 2025 as sets spin back up in LA.Sponsor Alert:Try Riverside.fm's new Co-Creator feature — get 20% off any individual plan with code CLIPPED at riverside.fmThey break down the day-to-day (it's way more project management and legal than playlist curating), how clearances and rights packages really work, how brands get in trouble using commercial music on social, and real-world budget ranges—from indie placements a few hundred bucks to seven-figure trailer and ad licenses. We also get into team ops at Clearly Music (shoutout Caleb McFadden) and how John's Office Hours mentorship led to hiring and training a trusted coordinator. What You'll Learn:Why team up now: Mike joins John at Clearly Music to combine film/TV (Mike) with advertising, trailers & entertainment marketing (John), diversifying clients and smoothing feast-or-famine cycles.Real supervision, not just playlists: Roughly 30% creative / 70% project management—budgeting, clearances, on-set music needs, negotiating with labels/publishers, and shepherding rights from pre-production through post.On-screen performances 101: Pre-record sessions, hire players/coaches, coordinate set playback, and ensure performances look and feel authentic.Rights packaging that saves money: How term, territory, media, and usage decisions (theatrical vs streaming, regional vs national, 3 months vs 1 year) change the price dramatically.Brand safety on social: Why TikTok/IG music access ≠ a license for brand/influencer content—and how brands end up with stacked infringements.Library vs artist vs custom: When budget and strategy drive the choice—and why libraries cover more placements than most people realize.Career path & mentorship: John's Office Hours → hiring and training Caleb McFadden into a trusted day-to-day operator handling clearances, publishing lookups, and searches.Connect With Clearly Music: - https://www.clearlymusicservices.com/Resources & Links:Follow me on YouTube: @podcasthaven - The page is growing!More tips, tools, and resources: The Podcast HavenPlan, Name, and Equip Your Show — All in One Place

Get ready for the most unintentionally sexist O3L yet! We tried very hard to steer away from the phrase "one man band" during this episode...only to pick albums almost exclusively by one man bands (except for a bonus nod to Enya). We tried. Dang you, unintentional sexism!! Anyway, the focus this week is albums where one man...er, human...mostly did it all. All the vocals. All the instruments. In many cases, all of the writing and production. The albums recorded in this fashion during the O3L era have been wildly influential for DIY musicians today, including today'sThird Lad, Minorcan's Ryan Anderson. With a career stretching back over 20 years, including three full-band records, Ryan Anderson's latest self-released Minorcan album, the appropriately titled Rock Alone, is a basement arena rock tour-de-force. Featuring eight musically rich and lyrically insightful songs from the pen of the Asheville, NC-based artist, Rock Alone will appeal to fans of roots rock, punk, and classic singer-songwriters alike. Rock Alone is now available on vinyl, CD, and digital: https://minorcan.bandcamp.com Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the connection! Learn more about your ad choices. (The Center Square) – The U.S. House in a late night vote passed Republicans' $9 billion rescissions package, delivering another win for President Donald Trump and his promise to cut federal spending. The measure, which cuts already appropriated federal spending on some foreign aid projects and public broadcasting programs, passed 216-213 in the House, the final voted needed to send it to Trump's desk for his signature. Two Republicans – U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Mike Turner, R-Ohio, joined all Democrats in voting against the measure. Originally clawing back a total of $9.4 billion, the package now revokes roughly $7.9 billion in “woke” foreign aid programs and $1.1 billion meant to fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which finances NPR, PBS and some radio stations.Support this podcast: https://secure.anedot.com/franklin-news-foundation/ce052532-b1e4-41c4-945c-d7ce2f52c38a?source_code=xxxxxxFull story: https://www.thecentersquare.com/national/article_0cb0c42e-56a3-4e84-9c7c-efae2f14222e.html

Ah, the "all killer, no filler" album. Records you can listen to from start to finish without a lull or dip in quality. It's a tougher exercise than one would think, as many of our favorite albums are flawed...perhaps beautifully or purposefully so, but that's not what this episode is about, kids. Joining us for this discussion is Ed Mazzucco and Laura Watling from Portland dream pop/shoegaze band Tears Run Rings. In September 2024, they released their fourth album, Everything In The End. And, true, to this episode's topic, it's a double album ("two hefty boys") that is a front-to-back modern classic., with each side having a distinct tone and feel. Everything In The End is out now of Shelflife Records, which, incidentally, is run by Ed and TRR singer/guitarist Matthew Bice. Since its 1995 roots in a Southern California bedroom, Shelflife has amassed an incredible catalogue of indie pop gems, including highly recommended releases by The Ocean Blue, Close Lobsters, Treasures of Mexico, Acid House Kings, The Caternary Wires, The Shermans, Souvenir, The Luxembourg Signal, Red Sleeping Beauty, Even As We Speak, Jetstream Pony, and much, much more. https://shelflife.com Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the introduction! This week on Face the Nation, the latest on the fallout following Friday's Oval Office brawl. The debacle seen, and heard, around the world as the meeting was meant to solidify an alliance between the U.S. and Ukraine, but instead melted down into a shouting match featuring President Trump and Vice President Vance versus Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. U.S. and Ukrainian officials are in full damage control mode, with European leaders racing to bring both sides back together and move towards a resolution to the war in Ukraine. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent crafted the agreement with Ukraine that fell apart during that meeting. We talk to him about that as well as the Trump administration's plans to help the economy. Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly and Ohio Republican Mike Turner also weigh in on what the path forward for Ukraine looks like. On the eve of a wave of new tariffs from the Trump administration, Michigan Republican Congressman John James tells us how his district could be impacted.
