Every now and again, I'll find a story that's just really upsetting to me. Now, obviously a lot of the stories I cover are all quite distressing. But today's story, which is about a missing hiker named Mike Turner – it just really upset me. It actually made it really hard to record this episode. So, consider this your warning that I personally believe this is a very upsetting story, but an important story that we would not be covering if there wasn't some real weight behind it. And I think the moral of this story, ultimately, is you really need to treasure your family while they're still around. Ah, the "all killer, no filler" album. Records you can listen to from start to finish without a lull or dip in quality. It's a tougher exercise than one would think, as many of our favorite albums are flawed...perhaps beautifully or purposefully so, but that's not what this episode is about, kids. Joining us for this discussion is Ed Mazzucco and Laura Watling from Portland dream pop/shoegaze band Tears Run Rings. In September 2024, they released their fourth album, Everything In The End. And, true, to this episode's topic, it's a double album ("two hefty boys") that is a front-to-back modern classic., with each side having a distinct tone and feel. Everything In The End is out now of Shelflife Records, which, incidentally, is run by Ed and TRR singer/guitarist Matthew Bice. Since its 1995 roots in a Southern California bedroom, Shelflife has amassed an incredible catalogue of indie pop gems, including highly recommended releases by The Ocean Blue, Close Lobsters, Treasures of Mexico, Acid House Kings, The Caternary Wires, The Shermans, Souvenir, The Luxembourg Signal, Red Sleeping Beauty, Even As We Speak, Jetstream Pony, and much, much more. https://shelflife.com Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the introduction! This week on Face the Nation, the latest on the fallout following Friday's Oval Office brawl. The debacle seen, and heard, around the world as the meeting was meant to solidify an alliance between the U.S. and Ukraine, but instead melted down into a shouting match featuring President Trump and Vice President Vance versus Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. U.S. and Ukrainian officials are in full damage control mode, with European leaders racing to bring both sides back together and move towards a resolution to the war in Ukraine. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent crafted the agreement with Ukraine that fell apart during that meeting. We talk to him about that as well as the Trump administration's plans to help the economy. Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly and Ohio Republican Mike Turner also weigh in on what the path forward for Ukraine looks like. On the eve of a wave of new tariffs from the Trump administration, Michigan Republican Congressman John James tells us how his district could be impacted. Finally, just before President Trump's first formal address to Congress, how do Americans think he's doing when it comes to tackling their priorities? Pam Bondi is likely to sail to confirmation—even if she's an election denier and pretends she was born yesterday—because she meets the simple qualifications of being a lawyer and former prosecutor, and because she's not a frat paddle come to life i.e. Matt Gaetz. The apparent effort to confuse the public with regard to unknown objects in the sky by referring to UFOs as “drones” is discussed. Also, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner - who has received hefty campaign contributions from the military industrial complex and is apparently opposed to UAP transparency efforts - was removed from his position on Wednesday. The new Intel Committee chair is expected to be named this week. Finally, journalist Ross Coulthart on Wednesday revealed yet another UFO whistleblower, Jake Barber, who will be the subject of an interview to be televised 8 p.m. EST, Saturday, Jan. 18, on NewsNation. Barber, according to Coulthart, operated a helicopter as a government contractor and, on some occasions, retrieved ET/NHI crafts, including an object that looked like a large white egg.
