A Special Power Surge Episode In this powerful and heartfelt episode of GenX Journeys, Paul Stroessner honors two remarkable American heroes—Captain John Thomas Martin III and Second Lieutenant Emily Jazmin Tatum Perez—whose legacies deserve to be remembered, not erased. Captain Martin was a brilliant scholar, leader, and trailblazing West Point graduate who also earned a master's from Harvard before serving in Vietnam. Lieutenant Perez was a fearless medical officer, record-breaking West Point cadet, and decorated track athlete who led from the front—literally—on her final mission in Iraq. Paul shares their stories with passion and purpose, tying in his own experiences as a veteran and runner. He also addresses the disturbing trend of erasing diverse military histories under the Trump administration and calls on listeners to rise up and speak their names.
One of the greatest misunderstandings of the Old Testament, is that the Levitical Offerings provided forgiveness of sin, until Christ came. This confusion hinders us to think Biblically about the Temple and Levitical Offerings in general. In this video, we will explore the Levitical Offerings and Biblical prophecy in detail. Let's discover the beauty of what God has given in Leviticus! This is an excerpt from a past livestream. Watch the full video here: https://youtube.com/live/WBZx_NvjcvU?... A new chapter can still be written in your life. A rough start is not the end of your dreams.
In this shiur, delivered in Ba'er Miriam, Rav Burg explains (based on a Sicha from the Lubavitcher Rebbe zt"l) the true nature of Mesiras Nefesh. Anyone can sacrifice their life for a greater cause but in a certain way that can still be self serving. The ultimate sacrifice is the sacrifice of Avraham Avinu - he was ready to sacrifice himself. He was ready to destroy everything that was important to him simply because Hashem asked him to. The sacrifice of Akeidas Yitzchak blazed the trail for all Jews throughout time who have not just given up their lives but given up themselves in the service of Hashem.

The old covenant's earthly tabernacle and repeated sacrifices were abolished with Christ's once-for-all sacrifice. We do not have to earn our faith or perform sacrifices to God. Jesus has paid the price for our sin and sanctifies us by his blood, giving us a new identity in Him.
Our podcast reviewer Adam Burns discusses on two factual podcasts you might like to add to your listening queue.
In this episode, we delve into the final part of the Mussaf Shmoneh Esrei — Shofaros. We explore the prayer for the blowing of the "Great Shofar" that signals the redemption and the coming of Mashiach. While Rosh Hashanah focuses on personal growth and overcoming challenges, there's a deeper, selfless yearning — the longing for Hashem's name to be recognized by all humanity, even at the cost of our own spiritual growth. This profound idea teaches that our ultimate goal is Kiddush Shem Shamayim — the sanctification of Hashem's name in the world. #RoshHashanah #Shofar #Mashiach #JewishLearning #Geulah
On June 3rd, 1944, Private Herbert Christian and Private Elden Johnson were on a patrol looking for enemy Germans. At 1am, they were ambushed, and came under suffocating fire from nearly all sides. Seeing no other options, Christian and Johnson stood up amidst the fire and advanced, drawing the enemy's attention away from their allies and towards themselves. Despite the odds, and Christian even having his leg shot off, they were both able to travel 20 yards and kill multiple enemies before finally being gunned down. In the end, their diversion worked, and 12 of their allies were able to escape to safety. Both Private Herbert Christian and Private Elden Johnson were later awarded the Medal of Honor for the courageous sacrifice.

As the days unfolded, and we heard about the lives of the killers, their motives gradually became clear – this was Australia's first case of Christian terrorism. In this episode, we speak to media identity Melissa Downes and senior news producer Jess Lodge, to learn more about this dark episode, and some of the details they have learnt whilst making their podcast on the case, ‘The Ultimate Sacrifice'.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He had a bounce in his step and was ready to change the world, and it was a shock to my core when he died.” Only days after receiving the news of her husband's death, Beugelsdijk, who was also serving in the Navy, learned about the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS, an organization that provides support to the families of fallen service members.“I picked up the phone and I called and that was the first time I connected with another person who looked like me and who was a young widow who understood what I was going through,” she recounts. TAPS provides peer counseling and practical support resources to family members who have lost loved ones while serving, or after serving in the military. Years after she received much needed support from the nonprofit, Beugelsdijk is serving other families in the same way as vice president of survivor services for TAPS. Today, we're diving into Hebrews 10, a powerful chapter that highlights how Jesus is the ultimate and only sacrifice we need. We'll explore the deep meaning behind this truth and what God expects from us once we surrender our lives to Christ. We'll discuss how Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was the final, perfect offering that fulfilled the old covenant requirements. No more repeated sacrifices or rituals—Jesus paid it all! But what does this mean for us today? Hebrews 10 also lays out a clear path for our lives post-surrender: living with faith, perseverance, and drawing near to God with a sincere heart. So, brew yourself a fresh cup, and let's get started on this journey through Hebrews 10 together! Don't forget to stay until the end where I will be answering a few questions from my audience. The cross is the heart of Scripture. Everything about the gospel message leads to the cross, and proceeds from the cross. In fact, within the narrative of Scripture, the crucifixion of Jesus is literally the crux of the story―the axis upon which the biblical story turns. But it would be a mistake to think we could sum up the significance of the crucifixion in a tidy sentence or two. That kind of thinking only insulates us from the magnificence of what God has done. In our ongoing quest to make meaning of the cross, we need to recognize that this conversation will never conclude―that there is always something more to be said. In his book, The Wood Between the Worlds, Brian Zahnd reminds us that the meaning of the cross is multifaceted and touches every aspect of our lives. It is an invitation to encounter the cross of Christ anew. Just as gazing through the eyepiece of a kaleidoscope reveals a new geometric image with every turn, Zahnd helps us see that there are infinite ways to behold the cross of Christ as the beautiful form that saves the world. Brian Zahnd is the founder and lead pastor of Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. He is also a pastor-theologian who has authored eleven books, including Sinners In the Hands of a Loving God, When Everything's on Fire, and The Wood Between the Worlds. Brian is enthusiastic about music, literature, mountains, and long-distance pilgrimages. ____________________________________________________Connect with Alan on LinkedIn or learn more about Unhurried Living programs on their website. Overall, they recommend the movie but caution that it is a dark and heavy film. **Reviews Mentioned Retro Movie Roundtable** Retro Movie Roundtable - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/retro-movie-roundtable/id1439985015 Inherit the Wind (1960) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUNuzRMhqyk&t=232s Laura (1944) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81lsl7b9MbA Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgaUrsbAYTQ The Maltese Falcon (1941) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvk2AoXUZ0g Double Indemnity (1944) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWDT7L2P9_I The Asphalt Jungle (1950) -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SW24rggaww The Third Man (1949) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVMftCxsX6s Breaker Morant - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyPTJjzluGo Strangers on a Train (1951) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkMlWFdX4ME Leave Her to Heaven (1945) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ccOhs-Az_0&t=36s **Reviews Mentioned Classic Movie Review** Laura (1944) - https://youtu.be/C9hSo2NTyC8 The Shanghai Gesture (1941) - https://youtu.be/cLUAQC_N4e4 Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) - https://youtu.be/N8UDFuzujXk The Maltese Falcon (1941) - https://youtu.be/iDqjuPCKUVc Double Indemnity (1944) - https://youtu.be/3KFf4vhmYxI The Asphalt Jungle (1950) - https://youtu.be/fynIloiiVDY Dark Waters (1944) - https://youtu.be/KEdr_A9FZ9o Angel and the Badman (1947) - https://youtu.be/qTwF_0eN_KA Breaker Morant (1980) - https://youtu.be/9MGaGJnn7F4 **My Links** Social - https://mtr.bio/classicmovierev My Merch - jcornelison.redbubble.com My Site - https://classicmovierev.com/ My Books - https://www.amazon.com/John-E-Cornelison/e/B00MYPIP56 **Affiliates** Libsyn Podcast Hosting - https://signup.libsyn.com/?promo_code=CMR Grammar Checker Links - https://grammarly.go2cloud.org/SH1ax Internal Link Juicer WordPress - https://r.freemius.com/2610/2395752/ **The Equipment I Use for YouTube** Camera - https://amzn.to/3SjOUnI Audio - https://amzn.to/3gsatFu Teleprompter - https://amzn.to/3CQZQUf GoPro 9 - https://amzn.to/3ITZcbw **Say Hi on Social** Website: https://www.classicmovierev.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/classicmovierev/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/classicmovierev **Chapters** 00:00 Introduction and Background 01:25 Initial Thoughts on the Movie 04:19 Film Noir Elements in 'Leave Her to Heaven' 07:15 The Use of Technicolor in a Noir Film 08:39 Gene Tierney's Performance and Tragic Life 12:59 Character Transformation of Cornell Wilde 20:16 The Ultimate Sacrifice and Darker Twists 23:11 Legal Consequences and Ellen's Villainy 25:35 Impact and Recommendation **Disclaimer** CMR is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to www.amazon.com. How can you believe that God's good work will be done in a story that begins with so much loss and tragedy? Where can you find miracles in pain and life's difficulties? For author, Bible teacher and ministry leader Joyce Dalrymple, opening her eyes to the way the Lord was moving in her own life and through her daughter's adoption required intentional attention. By starting to notice the way God was bringing redemption into their stories, she began to experience a deeper understanding as to the ways in which God is always at work. Seeing her daughter practice empathy birthed out of her own pain was a reminder that even our greatest wounds can become a well of goodness if we allow the transformation to come from the power of the Holy Spirit's work within us. In this insightful conversation, Aubrey sits down with Joyce to discuss how adoption involves so much loss and grief, the importance of learning to rest in your belovedness as a parent, and how to practically help foster and adoptive families. In addition, they touch on how to navigate church hurt with a wider perspective that can help you see the good in what the global church is doing and how that can keep you connected to a community of faith. If you or someone you know is an adoptive or foster family or if you've ever struggled to see the good in your pain, this episode will encourage you that miracles are always beyond the surface of our hurt if we can learn to see them. In late August of 2020 the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team attempted to execute search and arrest warrants on a family compound in Johnson Hollow, a heavily wooded and very rural area of Kentucky. The suspect, who was being sought on potential murder and drug related charges, had hiding locations and weapons throughout the compound and had built a series of hardened firing positions from which to attack officers. In the 48 hours that followed, the team would have two Officer involved shootings with two different suspects all on the same compound. This event would stretch the team and its resources to their limits, yet the team rose to the challenge yielding a successful outcome despite almost impossible conditions. This case provides numerous lessons learned and teaching points about rural operations and the dangers of unexpected challenges. My guests today are Sgt. Heath Ayers and Trooper Logan Smith from the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team.
