It's a big deal because Jesus rescues us from sin, fear, and death. 3:1-2  Its a big deal because Jesus was sent by God. - Apostle and High Priest - 4:14-16It's a big deal because Jesus gives us mercy and grace in time of need. - 5:1-10v. 1-4 Old Testament High Priests descended through Aaron are appointed to serve but they are imperfect men.v. 5-6 Its a big deal because Jesus was appointed by God.Psalm 2:7–8 “I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.” Psalm 110:4 “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”v. 7-8 It's a big deal because Jesus, the Son of God, obeyed the Father perfectly and suffered willingly. This qualifies Jesus as High Priest and demonstrates his humanity.v. 9-10 It's a big deal because Jesus is perfect and therefore, the source of our salvation. It's a big deal because he is not from Aaron, but from Melchizedek. Genesis 14:17-206:19-20It's a big deal because Jesus is the anchor of our souls. It's a big deal because Jesus entered the Holy of Holies. It's a big deal because Jesus is eternal. - 7:1-22Now, let's try to understand Melchizedek - Genesis 14:17–20 “After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was a priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.” •      A mysterious but important individual.•      King of Salem - would become Jerusalem.•      A King and Priest, but not from Abraham or Aaron.•      No genealogy and no birth/death recorded. •      He blessed Abraham and Abraham gives an offering.v. 11-14 It's a big deal because Jesus isn't from the line of Aaron (Levitical) but from the eternal line of Melchizedek.v. 15-19 It's a big deal because Jesus is a better hope so we can draw near to God.v. 20-22 It's a big deal because Jesus guarantees a new and better covenant! HE IS THE FINAL PERFECTION, THE EFFECTIVE SACRIFICE.

Will voters forgive her for the Sheraton move? Zuraida won the seat in GE14 under the PKR ticket and in 2020, she infamously joined the Sheraton Move which saw her defecting to Bersatu leading to the downfall of the Pakatan Harapan government. After decades of authoritarian rule by the Barisan Nasional coalition, a new alliance, Pakatan Harapan, was voted in in 2018, marking Malaysia's first-ever transfer of federal power through elections in what was widely heralded as the start of a democratic transition. But that new government collapsed within two years, and Malaysian politics has remained unstable ever since. With elections likely to be called soon, what accounts for the remarkable turbulence in Malaysian politics, and what does it say about how regimes are remade? Joining Dr Natali Pearson on SSEAC Stories, Professor Meredith Weiss discusses the state of politics in Malaysia, reflecting on the promises, both fulfilled and broken, brought about by GE14, and, looking to the future, considering ways for Malaysia to continue moving forward. The world of comics, graphic novels, and illustrations in Southeast Asia has been gaining its fair share of global attention. These visual mediums have provided markers of national identity, such as that found in Lat's cartoons, and have continuously informed our imaginations and realities. But what is it that makes these ways of storytelling so treasured? And how do they inform our collective and individual ways of seeing and thinking? Join Eisner award-winning comic artist, Erica Eng and New Naratif Comics and Illustrations Editor, Charis Loke as we explore these question and their personal approaches to the visual form. Speakers: Karl Nadzarin, Erica Eng, Charis Loke Notes: 1. For more on the idea of drawing as seeing and thinking, see John Berger's wonderful essays 'To Take Paper, To Draw' and 'The Basis of All Painting and Sculpture is Drawing' which can both be found in the Verso publication of Landscapes: John Berger on Art. 2. Charis's Bersih rally sketches can be found here, while her GE14 sketches are on New Naratif (A Tale of Three Ceramahs; A Little Night Music; A Nation Votes). 3. Read Shaun Tan's thoughts on his seminal wordless graphic novel The Arrival, in particular, what he says about the intuitive resonance of looking at pictures as well as where he's pulling his visual references from. See also the wordless novels from the 1910s-1930s in woodcuts by Frans Masereel, like The City (Die Stadt) and Passionate Journey (Mon livre d'heures). 4. As Malaysians head to the 14th General Elections (GE14), the stakes have seldom been higher. The nature of the nation is now fiercely contested. While many Malaysians see the GE14 election season as another fraught debate over the core economic issues of the cost of living, inflation, and health and education infrastructure, there are also renewed fissures over the roles of religion and culture in determining Malaysia in the 21st century. And all of these issues arising at a time of great uncertainty in the region, as China rises and the United States retreats. In this discussion, recorded at an ANU Malaysia Institute—New Mandala public forum in Kuala Lumpur on 8 February 2018, Merdeka Center’s Ibrahim Suffian, Universiti Malaya Professor Edmund Terence Gomez, Malaysia Muda convener and lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, and ANU historian Dr Amrita Malhi unravel some of these themes with the latest available data and analyses with New Mandala Contributing Editor Kean Wong.
