“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.'” Matthew 1:23 NLT Jesus had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn't claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion. Philippians 2:6-8 MSG THE GIFT OF JESUS IS… 1. THE GIFT OF PEACE You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” Luke 2:12-14 NLT And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NLT Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT 2. THE GIFT OF UNDERSTANDING Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who rose into the heavenly realm for us, and now sympathizes with us in our frailty. He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin. So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy's kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. Hebrews 4:14-16 TPT 3. THE GIFT OF LOVE This is how we have discovered love's reality: Jesus sacrificed his life for us. Beloved children, our love can't be an abstract theory we only talk about, but a way of life demonstrated through our loving deeds. 1 John 3:16;18 TPT And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT ✓ How wide is the love of God “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.” Isaiah 1:18 NLT He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalms 103:12 NLT ✓ How long is the love of God I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me John 10:28 NLT ✓ How deep is the love of God My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:38-39 NLT “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds, you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NLT ✓ How high is the love of God That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT

This week on the SciFi TV Rewatch podcast we discuss the role emotions play on both sides as Team Giant finds itself without a solid leader, and Team Thor must contend with Magne's decision to drop out of the fight. On the other hand, it turns out that Iman is more than up to the task of taking on the giants, and the scene at the gym stands out as a series highlight. Still, it appears that Fjor and Laurits could either join forces or square off against each other. Time will tell. In our What We're Watching segment, Wayne talks about revisiting the X-Men movies while Dave completes the final season of Atiye: The Gift and gets started with season 2 of the German Netflix series Biohackers. Since Christ, Who is the first and last, suffered, who are we to question if we are called on to suffer for the cause of God- Though we may be killed yet we shall live again. Also, it is comforting that the Lord knows when we suffer for Him and are faithful to serve Him. Christians often live in poverty but in reality they are rich and have an incorruptible inheritance.
Q/A on the Bridges of Meaning Discord June 19 2020 I do these Q/A sessions on the Bridges of Meaning Discord server most Friday mornings at 10am PDT. https://discord.gg/jdVk8XU 0:00 Beginning in case I can't make it to today's session, I have a short question with a long preamble that I hope you can address for me: I really appreciated your monologue video from yesterday on racism. My church is currently working through a small group study based on a book curriculum written by a pastor and a church planter in the Wesleyan Church called Multiethnic Conversations The intent is to shift our local church into one that engages in actively transforming into a more multiethnic church. I detect a tension in myself that I don't fully understand - perhaps it means I'm racist, or maybe I'm a contrarian, or maybe both (and more), but there is something in me that says, "I'm fine with our church being multiethnic if that's who ends up showing up and becoming a part of the church and finding meaning and life here - it's great if that happens. But to intentionally say, 'We don't look multi-ethnic enough, and the multiethnic church is Biblical and right, and we are lacking, so we need to intentionally do things to change that,' feels off to me in some way. I think I have a concern that making multiethicity A focus of the church could shift into becoming THE focus of the church. And the potential prospect of making it the top of the hierarchy troubles me. All that said, my actual question is, in your view what was/is the Christian impetus for intentionally making your local church a multiethnic one like the one your dad started and you grew up in, and is there anything non-Christian about a church that isn't intentionally pushing itself to be more ethnically diverse? 16:30 Kinnism, THe CRC, Critical Race Theory 23:09 Spartan Theology, talking with an atheist. Jesus and Paul's connection to Essenes. 36:21 Calvinism: Predictability 41:00 I wonder what PVK thinks of "natural evangelism?" Or any of the various methods of evangelism being widely encouraged today? Methods he thinks are done well and others he's concerned to see within the church. 56:00 . So, I've been listening to Jonathan Pageau about, angels, demons and principalities and I have difficult time understanding what they are and able to articulate to others about it. So, what are angels, demons and principalities, and is there a different explanation from Orthodox Christian and the Protestant?? Thank you for your time 1:09:00 Job. Pre-covid Anything done for my church. 1:18:00 The internet tends to create monopolies, particularly for information-based products. Do you worry about the future of moving sermons online, and the fact that this would create a competitive winner-take-all environment that would mostly replace local churches and pastors for mega-churches that don't have physical constraints, and would optimize for entertainment/platform value instead? 1:23:00 What is your view of salvation when considering what role our human effort may play in it or not? Specifically in regard to Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”? Though we recognize we can do nothing except by grace, do you believe that the “through faith” part involves some sort of human cooperation with God in the sense that “faithfulness” might be bound up with what “faith” is? Or is salvation not dependent on our cooperation in any way? Or perhaps there is even another way you understand faith than this? Is there perhaps a paradox that can’t be fully understood here? 1:35:00 I have always had a problem with the overwhelming support of the death penalty by the Christian community. Am I mistaken that John 8 covers the way god views this after the new covenant? As well in many more red letter verses. 1:42:00 Training your faith muscles. 1:46:00 How does that "do in secret" jive with the spreading of the gospel? Yet the archaeological evidence is stronger for a 13th century Exodus. The 480 years may well be a symbolic number (12 [as in the tribes of Israel] x 40 [representing a generation]), in which case Moses would have been born not in 1526 BC, but 150-200 years later.Whereas 110 was the ideal age for a virtuous Egyptian, 120 was the ideal age for the virtuous Israelite. Therefore we must be particularly wary of pragmatism.Even for "big leaders," sin always has consequences. No one is above God's moral law.If you are a leader, don't be a one-man show, or a one-woman show! Trust others to exercise their gifts, too.God wants us to see him. Yet we can no more see God directly, without being destroyed, than we can gaze at the sun without losing our eyesight! Because of our moral limitations (Habakkuk 1:13), we see God only indirectly -- his effects. We behold his glory not only through the Word, but especially through his Son, Jesus Christ (John 1:18, Colossians 2:9).The Word of God -- the Hebrew scriptures -- testify of the Christ to come.We need to learn to do things God's way, not take matters into our own hands (the flesh). Man's anger does not, after all, bring about the righteous life that God desires (James 1:20).Rather than allowing pragmatism to prevail, we need to follow in the footsteps of Moses, who preferred the maltreatment of persecution over the pleasures of privilege. Such are the people the Lord will reward. For kids (devotional -- best for three or more children):Role-play. Dress up. Dramatize three or more of the plagues.Let father (or the oldest male) play Pharaoh.Emphasize:It is useless opposing God.The Lord hears the cries of his people. He is a God who rescues us.He works through people willing to speak up.Have some fun!Key verses:Exodus 3:2 -- the burning bushExodus 32:32 -- Moses' self-sacrificial SpiritNumbers 12:3 -- humilityNumbers 20:11 -- angerHebrews 11:25 -- correct spiritual prioritiesNext lesson: Aaron
Psalm 71: 17-24Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God,till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God?Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again;from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.You will increase my honor and comfort me once more.I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God;I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered. My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.

I thought my body was gross. I thought God didn't give me a good one. God changed my perspective. Now that insecurity has become fierce respect for this wonder God has given me. Now I'm convinced that we as women are jewels. Our bodies are of the highest value. And we should not put our jewels before swine. Your body should be adored by someone who deserves it. By someone who serves you, respects you and makes you feel worth it. Your husband (though he himself is a work in progress) is the only one who fits the bill. Tips: Assume the attraction is there. Practice affirmations. I do this with my clients and this is one of the most effective strategies. Spend time journaling rather than eating. Eating allows us to numb ourselves from the difficulties of life. We stuff ourselves with food so we don't feel. You are not being cocky by telling yourself you're gorgeous. Your body is God's work of art. He gets the credit. God made you beautiful. When you get compliments, receive it and give the glory to God in your heart. You don't have to let that puff you up in pride, you can give that to God. It is a discipline to have confidence. And it takes discipline to get there. Write through the hard times, rather than stuff the hard time with food which make the enemy distract you from life and God's voice. Resources: Women Food and God (Though not a Christian book, amazing principles that we can apply through a godly lense can be gleened.) Next week: 174-Body P3: Flaunt It, Don't Ask For Approval

And his activities had to do with the Watchers, and his days were with the holy ones. 3 And I Enoch was blessing the Lord of majesty and the King of the ages, and lo! the Watchers 4 called me -Enoch the scribe- and said to me: 'Enoch, thou scribe of righteousness, go, declare to the Watchers of the heaven who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place, and have defiled themselves with women, and have done as the children of earth do, and have taken unto themselves 5 wives: "Ye have wrought great destruction on the earth: And ye shall have no peace nor forgiveness 6 of sin: and inasmuch as they delight themselves in their children, The murder of their beloved ones shall they see, and over the destruction of their children shall they lament, and shall make supplication unto eternity, but mercy and peace shall ye not attain."' [Chapter 13] 1 And Enoch went and said: 'Azazel, thou shalt have no peace: a severe sentence has gone forth 2 against thee to put thee in bonds: And thou shalt not have toleration nor request granted to thee, because of the unrighteousness which thou hast taught, and because of all the works of godlessness 3 and unrighteousness and sin which thou hast shown to men.' Then I went and spoke to them all 4 together, and they were all afraid, and fear and trembling seized them. And they besought me to draw up a petition for them that they might find forgiveness, and to read their petition in the presence 5 of the Lord of heaven. For from thenceforward they could not speak (with Him) nor lift up their 6 eyes to heaven for shame of their sins for which they had been condemned. Then I wrote out their petition, and the prayer in regard to their spirits and their deeds individually and in regard to their 7 requests that they should have forgiveness and length. Chapter 15] 1 And He answered and said to me, and I heard His voice: 'Fear not, Enoch, thou righteous 2 man and scribe of righteousness: approach hither and hear my voice. And go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent thee to intercede for them: "You should intercede" for men, and not men 3 for you: Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children 4 of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons? And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood as those also do who die 5 and perish. Therefore have I given them wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget 6 children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. But you were formerly 7 spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling. 8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon 9 the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; 10 they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless 12 hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them. [Chapter 16] 1 From the days of the slaughter and destruction and death of the giants, from the souls of whose flesh the spirits, having gone forth, shall destroy without incurring judgement -thus shall they destroy until the day of the consummation, the great judgement in which the age shall be 2 consummated, over the Watchers and the godless, yea, shall be wholly consummated." And now as to the watchers who have sent thee to intercede for them, who had been aforetime in heaven, (say 3 to them): "You have been in heaven, but all the mysteries had not yet been revealed to you, and you knew worthless ones, and these in the hardness of your hearts you have made known to the women, and through these mysteries women and men work much evil on earth." 4 Say to them therefore: " You have no peace.
