In this episode of the ChinaPower podcast, Dr. Janka Oertel joins us to discuss the evolving relationship between Europe and China, and how Europe views both economic ties and security challenges posed by Beijing. She argues that China is not engaging in a successful charm offensive. Dr. Oertel describes how both the first and second Trump administration have shaped economic and security dynamics within the China-Europe relationship and outlines how Europe-China relations have become increasingly strained by competitive economic pressures imposed by China, such as issues with overcapacity, as well as how China's support for Russia following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine has undermined the relationship. She also examines Europe's internal responses to pressures coming from China and Europe's active attempts at economic diversification, defense buildup and strategic autonomy, and global outreach to partners and allies. Lastly, she elaborates on areas of potential greater collaboration between the EU and the Indo-Pacific as well as avenues for the U.S. and Europe to continue working together to address dual security and economic challenges posed by China. Dr. Janka Oertel is the director of Asia Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations. Her expertise focuses on transatlantic China policy, emerging technologies, Chinese foreign and security policies, and security issues in Asia. Previously, she worked as a senior fellow in the Asia programme at the Berlin office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, a programme director at Körber Foundation's Berlin office, a visiting fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP Berlin) and a Carlo-Schmid fellow at United Nations Headquarters, New York. She has testified before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the German Bundestag, and is frequently quoted in leading media outlets such as the Financial Times, the New York Times, The Economist, Süddeutsche Zeitung, El Confidencial, Berlingske, and many more. She holds a PhD from the University of Jena in Germany.

Joseph Wu rebuts Trump chip theft claim National Security Council head Joseph Wu is rebutting claims by U-S President Donald Trump that Taiwan stole the semiconductor business from America. Speaking at the Halifax International Security Forum in Taipei, Wu stressed that Taiwan "did not steal anything from anybody" .. …. and stressed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing "started from scratch" with "some help from the international community." The statements come after Trump earlier this week announced that America could hit semiconductors with tariffs of around 25-per cent in the coming weeks. Wu told delegates at the forum that the government is continuing to assess the potential impact of such a move and will be prepared to adjust its economic structure if such a need arises. He warned that those bearing the cost of such tariffs will be U-S consumers, and he's sure eventually the Trump administration will reconsider (重新考慮) its decision." Hamas militants had turned over four bodies Thursday under the tenuous (脆弱的) ceasefire that has paused over 15 months of war. Israeli confirmed one body was that of Oded Lifshitz, who was 83 when he was abducted during the Hamas attack that started the war in 2023. The military said later the remains of Ariel and Kfir Bibas had been identified and the family notified. But the military said the additional body was not that of their mother Shiri Bibas nor any other hostage. It called the failure to return four hostages Thursday a violation of the utmost severity of the ceasefire agreement. Background on the Attack CDK Global, the leading provider of dealership management systems and digital retailing solutions, said cybersecurity breaches began on Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, CDK's core systems were restored, only to be shuttered on Thursday after a second hack attack. This has made it nearly impossible for thousands of dealers to buy and sell vehicles this week. "We cannot process paperwork. Everything is frozen, everything is tied up — we cannot move money back and forth to pay off cars, to finance our customers' transactions," Tom Maioli, who owns Celebrity Motor Car Company with dealerships across York and New Jersey, told CBS MoneyWatch (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cdk-cyber-attack-outage-update-2024/) He said his business is "completely shut down." https://www.zerohedge.com/technology/everything-frozen-third-day-cyberattack-leaves-15000-auto-dealerships-crippled This shut down was a Real event, but done by the Deep State NWO / One World Order Crowd.. There are 6 million jobs coast to coast supported by the auto industry. Motor vehicles and parts were the second largest U.S. export in 2021 — more than $105 billion in goods. Think of all the people that could not work – car fixed Priming for a Boogie Man: – Watch, will Russia be blamed for the attack to bring on Seal 4 Gov Internet Surveillance and overreach: –Surveillance: Increased surveillance could be used to monitor the activities of citizens, potentially stifling dissent and enabling the manipulation of public opinion. Never let a good crisis go to waste. Like after 911 with the NDAA that destroyed the Constitution, will there be legislation to watch and surveil the internet more? You'll see some sort of deep state surveillance program. Post 9/11 Legislation: After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the U.S. government enacted several pieces of legislation and executive orders aimed at preventing future attacks. The most notable of these is the USA PATRIOT Act, which expanded the government's surveillance and investigative powers. Critics argue that these measures infringe on civil liberties, particularly rights to privacy and due process. Bring on ID2020 as more digital plandemics happen: Cyber Attacks: These could be used to disrupt infrastructure, sow chaos, or steal sensitive information. This could create a perceived need for increased security and control. Digital ID Systems: By implementing a digital ID system, the Ai government could monitor and control access to various online services. This could potentially lead to a situation where access to essential services is contingent on compliance with certain rules or behaviors. “Our digital activity increasingly parallels our real-world activity. Participation in the modern economy, the ability to buy and sell, attain employment, healthcare, social services and more are virtually impossible without a digital identity. In May of 2016, at the United Nations Headquarters in NY, ID2020, an alliance of governments, non-profits, academia, over 150 private sector companies and 11 United Nations agencies collaborated on how to provide a unique digital identity to everyone on the planet.” Source: https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-universal-digital-identification-and-you Destroy your freedom to travel and maybe link to CO2 less emissions during the lack of new cars on the road. Life is movement and for this Choreographer, Dancer, and Creative Artist, she did just that. From an early age this talented dancer grew through her KBC moments of being "too tall" and " not fitting in". She used her strengths and found her our inner passion as a creative artist. This thriving and talented dancer endured many kick ball changes in NYC, between roomate and bed bug issues, to finding dancers and space to create in. Lean in to her journey of never giving up on yourself or your art work. Her most powerful work she choreographed, tackles the plastic epidemic in our oceans. “Plastic Ocean” The work began as a site-specific commission for the Westbeth gallery in NYC. From there the work was invited to be expanded and performed at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC, and later another version was invited to the Dzul International Dance Festival in Campeche, Mexico. The work consists of dancers moving throughout a sea of plastic bags wearing costumes by Zachary Alexander and dancing to original music by Bettina Sheppard. The visual of the dancers moving in waves throughout the overwhelming amount of plastic is quite striking. The bags almost create a type of water-like movement onstage to dance in, but the gravity of the message creates a bittersweet memorable image for audience members.

This is PART 4, the final episode of a four-part series; an interview of Samantha McCoy. Talking to hundreds of people in an podcast interview, about something as deeply personal and hurtful as the trauma of rape, takes a tremendous amount of strength and courage; two things that all four of the guests in this series have demonstrated in an amazing, meaningful, and helpful way. And Samantha's story of rape and recovery is as powerful as the previous three stories you've heard during this series. During my interview with her, Samantha tells about the shock and terror of waking up from a drug induced state of unconsciousness, to finding out that not only was she raped by someone who she cared for and was close to, but also that the perpetrator video recorded the rape…and digitally distributed it to many of her close friends and colleagues. And to add insult to injury, this perpetrator was a police officer! Samantha's story reflects the many aspects of trauma that most victims of rape experience…fear, confusion, anger, frustration, shame, embarrassment…all of which are compounded by the physiological symptoms that accompany any severe physical and mental trauma: repeated nightmares, intrusive memories, physical symptoms of emotional breakdown, sensory activators of trauma such as sights, sounds, body positions, and somatic pain; all common responses and reactions to trauma. The way Samantha tells her story is emotionally gripping. And hearing about the way she was treated by law enforcement after reporting her rape is equally gripping…and aggravating: no one deserves to go through what Samantha went through when she reported her rape. Yet, through it all, Samantha found a channel for recovery and surviving…and uses that channel to help hundreds of thousands of other victims and survivors. Listen to her story of becoming a lawyer in direct response to being raped; and learn of what she's done: Samantha McCoy is an attorney and activist fighting for legislative change in our legal system addressing responses to survivors of violence. First in her many achievements, Samantha was instrumental in passing Indiana's Senate Bill 146 in March of 2020, ensuring rights of survivors of sexual violence, including the right to have a confidential advocate with you during law enforcement questioning and at the emergency room as well as more trauma-informed responses when a survivor discloses abuse. Samantha additionally testified during Indiana's 2020 Summer Legislative Study Committee advocating for an expansion and clarification on the definition of “consent” in the Indiana criminal statute. Samantha went on to successfully lobby for Texas HB 2706 in June of 2021, similarly ensuring trauma-informed approaches and an expansion of rights for survivors of sexual violence. Samantha further successfully lobbied for Connecticut HB 5278 in May of 2022, ensuring explicit consent is obtained prior to the performance of intimate examinations by medical students and other medical professionals. In July of 2022, Samantha testified at the United Nations Headquarters advocating for the passage of the first-ever standalone United Nations Resolution addressing and ensuring rights for all survivors of sexual violence. This Resolution passed in September of 2022, making history. In recognition of this work, Samantha was the recipient of the 2022 Purple Ribbon Outstanding Legislative Partner Award by DomesticShelters. Samantha is working on further changes for survivors in the upcoming 2023 state and federal legislative sessions. This isn't the end of the stories of my four amazing guests: the influence and impact of their stories carries on in all that they are accomplishing in their personal and professional lives. And who knows…you may have the thrill of listening to all of them in one collective round-table on this podcast! It's something I am working on bringing to you in a future episode! Share Samantha's amazing episode with your family, friends, and colleagues. Please subscribe to this podcast and rate each episode you listen to. Growing the audience of this podcast is key to helping bring justice to victims and survivors; we all should do our part to doing just that, and subscribing to this podcast, whether you listen to all the episodes or not, is helpful and greatly appreciated; because we all know someone whose life has been affected by rape or sexual assault. And remember to Start by Believing. markel-consulting.com
By the time Mel Allen broadcast Game four of the 1949 world series at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn on October 8th, the world was in turmoil. The Yankees would win that day and take the series four games to one, but people's attention was turned toward world politics. The Communist People's Republic of China was formed on October 1st and recognized by the USSR the next day. The Democratic Republic of East Germany was formed on October 7th. On October 14th, Ten Communist Party USA leaders were sentenced to jail time. Two days later the Greek Civil war ended with a Communist surrender, and on October 24th the cornerstone of the United Nations Headquarters was laid in New York. As 1949's holiday season approached, India adopted a constitution, while the labor government was defeated in Australian Federal elections. A growing red scare was now deeply embedded in the media. Alger Hiss' second perjury trial began in November, while Mahatma Gandhi's assassins were executed, and Chinese communist troops continued their march to Taiwan. Members of the media had been claiming there were potential communist cells in the entertainment industry for more than two years.

The masterpiece spy thriller North by Northwest was released in 1959 and directed by legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. The main plot deals with an advertising executive in New York City named Roger Thornhill, played by the legendary leading man Carey Grant. Unfortunately, Mr. Thornhill is the victim of mistaken identity, and the film's plot deals with him traveling by train, car, bus, and plane all over the country from a group of evil spies. Another important character in the film is Eve Kendall. The brilliant Eva Marie Saint plays her. The main villain is the ringleader of a spy organization Phillip Vandamm, played by James Mason. And his second in command is Leonard, played by the fantastic Martin Landau. Some of the incredible locations chosen for filming were Grand Central Station, Chicago Midway Airport, United Nations Headquarters, LaSalle Street Station, Mount Rushmore, and more! Along with my review of the film, I also talk about the casting choices, filming locations, and the lore surrounding Cary Grant's gray suit. If you are a fashion fan, I recommend listening to this last part. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/collin-sugg/message
