This is the inaugural episode of the fourth year of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology podcast. This episode features a prominent contributor to the field, Heather Eaton, PhD, professor of conflict studies in the faculty of human sciences at Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Canada. We talk about her numerous interdisciplinary contributions to the field of religion and ecology, including her engagement with the intellectual legacy of Thomas Berry (a teacher of hers), the enduring relevance of ecofeminism, the philosophy of new materialism, the role of nonviolence in facilitating social change, and the political problem posed by religious nationalism, and more.
Heather Eaton and Jane Dong are the co-founders of Frankly Apparel, a braless clothing brand that started as a class project in business school and officially launched in 2021. These pieces of clothing range from bodysuits, dresses, tops and are constructed with innovative sewing technique and high quality fabrics to allow for better sizing and support for a variety of chest sizes. We will discuss the importance of establishing a co-founder relationship around trust, their successful product market fit strategy, and their overall resiliency when it comes to dealing with development and production obstacles. They have a keen eye for building a social following even when thinking through pre-launch marketing strategy. They have gone viral TikTok and have seen the value of connecting with influencers and new customers. Their authenticity as leaders and new entrepreneurs makes it such a fun listen, and we also explore how their brand will be evolving for years to come.
On this episode: Heather Eaton, co-founder of Frankly Apparel, joins the show to discuss her braless clothing company and her journey as an entrepreneur. We dig into the process of understanding the customer through ethnographic interviews, developing an initial product line, and utilizing experiments to test market hypotheses and product viability. Heather also talks about some of her favorite classes she took during her time at Stanford Business School and how she organizes her day to stay productive.
Frankly Apparel's appeal is as straightforward as it gets: stylish, comfortable clothing for women to wear without the need for a bra. CEO Heather Eaton and her co-founder Jane Dong bonded over discussing their very different body types (Heather large-chested, Jane- tall, small-chested) and lack of clothing options that truly fit them. The idea of Frankly was born and after a successful Kickstarter, they are on their way to redefining bra-less clothing to fit all cup sizes and become the new standard. Heather joins the show to talk with Scott about changing the fashion industry, building a company in the pandemic, serving an underserved niche in the market and what it's like to use TikTok as a viral marketing tool.
The TITT Talks Podcast - Modern Women Living in a Mama World
Welcome to the second episode of TITT Talks: How She Built This. On this second installment we are featuring the co-founders of Frankly Apparel (https://www.franklyapparel.com), Jane Dong and Heather Eaton. This spin-off series is meant to intimately discuss the journey of building a business as a female entrepreneur in a 20-ish minute segment. These types of conversations are what inspire and empower us as budding entrepreneurs at TITT Talks, and we hope they do the same for you as well. This week, we bring to you the womxn that have brought to life a clothing company that gives you the freedom to finally go braless and be supported at the same time. Frankly Apparel’s vision, which we love, is to empower womxn to ask for more, starting with what they wear. They are delivering products that are centered around adaptable support structures constructed through innovative sewing techniques and high-quality fabrics. They lightly and naturally lift, secure, and shape your breasts, and even cover nipples without any extra bulky padding. They also know one size doesn’t fit all, so Frankly Apparel offers more options to cover cup sizes A to G. Essentially, Jane and Heather read our minds and are creating a product that we all need. Join us as TLo sits down to interview Jane and Heather, learn more about their journey, and what’s in store for Frankly Apparel. Frankly Apparel is running a Kickstarter campaign that will conclude on November 12, 2020. They are nearing their stretch goal of $50,000! For more information or to contribute, find their campaign here. It has always been our mission to connect with other modern womxn through the lens of our experience. We hope you enjoy this new series as much as we do!____________________________________________ABOUT TITT TALKS TITT Talks was “conceived” in January of 2020 during one of TITT’s many friend/family (“framily”) get-togethers. In conversation, it came to light that there was a lack of representation of womxn like TITT in, among other forms of media, the podcast world. In particular, there was no podcast that TITT could subscribe to that would enable them to feel seen, heard, or understood as modern Asian Pacific American working mothers. The womxn of TITT Talks knew that this void was one they could fill by sharing their voices and experiences through their casual conversations, which were already taking place on a routine basis. Thank you for the positive feedback we have received since our launch in early June 2020. We are delighted to hear that we are bringing you content that you can finally relate to as mothers, professionals, millennials, and Asian Pacific Americans.____________________________________________ CONNECT WITH US Sign up for our NEWSLETTER – TITT Talks Tea IG: titt_talks FACEBOOK: TITT Talks E-MAIL: TITTtalks@gmail.com YOUTUBE: TITT Talks Podcast ____________________________________________ WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU What topics would you like to hear discussed on the show? Heather Eaton and Jane Dong started Frankly at Stanford GSB in their class, startup garage. They originally wanted to build a Saas business but realized that wasn’t their true passion and switched to braless clothing! They want to create a brand that provides support to women figuratively and literally. The fashion industry operates on outdated concepts and doesn’t create clothes for all women. Jane and Heather want to change that with Frankly. This episode has great advice on experimenting to find what works for you!
