Kimberly loves living an abundant life! She pursued her first degree in Agricultural Communications while studying dance at the University of Wyoming and touring with the musical theater group, Centennial Singers. Kimberly then served as a public speaker for the state of Wyoming as Miss Wyoming 2000 (Miss America Scholarship Program) promoting volunteerism and healthy life choices and left her heels and crown in a box 3 months after fulfilling her tenure to serve an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon returning home, Kimberly pursued further schooling at Portland State University and the University of Wyoming to start a professional career in 2008 as a speech-language pathologist (SLP). All the while, she had this not-so-secret love of fashion design and knew she would start a fashion business. Little did she know the timing for that fashion business dream would crystalize 15 years later. Adventures as a Mary Kay business owner, SLP blogger, co-founder of MyFreedom MyFamily T-Shirts in 2017, and marketing & sales director sharpened Kimberly's skills in the arena of business, and Token Clothing Company™ was launched in October 2022 with its first women's fashion line, Pajamas With Purpose™. Token Clothing Co. fuses empowering language and gorgeous apparel to create an experience that helps women overcome limiting beliefs and negative self-talk. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “I want fashion to be intelligent and empowering.” “Token Clothing has a niche of empowering language with every line that we bring forward.” “Sometimes we have challenges that require us to tap in more fully to how we believe in ourselves.” “You just have to move forward. Even if you don't have everything in place, you must take the leap, recognize that doors will open and there will always be people to support and help you along the way.” “When we are not inundated with negative thoughts and feelings, our brain is able to function more optimally, therefore we learn and retain more.” “Be aware of your negative thoughts, then reframe them into something that is the complete opposite. The more power you give positivity, the more likely you'll believe in yourself.” Connect with Kimberlywww.tokenclothingco.comhttps://www.instagram.com/token_clothing_co/https://www.facebook.com/TokenClothingCohttps://www.linkedin.com/in/kimberlywilkerson/I AM Printables: https://www.tokenclothingco.com/pages/iam - FREE gift for She Believed She Could audience Connect with Allisonhttps://www.shebelievedfoundation.org/www.instagram.com/allisonwalshwww.shebelievedbook.comwww.allisonwalshconsulting.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/shebelievedshecouldcommunity
Brian chats with Spider Perry, founder of the inclusive clothing company NerdyKeppie. Spider initially created the company as a side business to provide LGBTQ Judaica for their daughter and now runs NerdyKeppie full-time with the help of several part-time employees. On the episode, Spider shares how the business has evolved throughout its growth. They also list their top tips for keeping a business afloat and emphasize the importance of delegation. Episode Highlights Mission-driven businesses create the world you want to live in. Spider defines a mission-driven business as a company that actively tries to create the kind of world you want to live in. This definition of a mission-driven business extends beyond just the products a company makes to the working environment it provides for employees. “It has to go both ways,” Spider said. “It would be hollow if it were only outward facing or only inward facing.” Get organized from the beginning. When Spider started NerdyKeppie, they were the only person who had to understand how files were named and organized. But as the company has grown, the system they created didn't always make sense to the other people working at the company. They advise other business owners to strategically organize files from the start. “Keep track of things better than you think, and do it from the beginning,” Spider said. “I still have a file on our server now that I still have to finish sorting.” If you don't trust a person, don't work with them. Delegation is a crucial part of running a business, so it's important to trust the people that you work with. If you don't trust a person, you shouldn't be working with them, Spider advises. “If you can't hand off something to someone and trust that they're going to get it done in the way that you need, maybe you need to reevaluate that relationship,” Spider said. Spider has had to end a few business relationships because they couldn't trust the end result. However, the people he does continue to work with are empowered to make decisions and do the job right. “I have to pay our operations lead for the job that I want him to do,” he said. “I have to make sure that he has the tools that he needs. And then I need to stop, walk away, and let him do the job.” Resources + Links The Mission Driven Business Podcast Episode 59: Creating The Job You Want with Sarah Kendrick Spider: Tumblr, Patreon, Twitter NerdyKeppie: Website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram Brian Thompson Financial: Website, Newsletter, Podcast Follow Brian Online: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Forbes About Brian and the Mission Driven Business Podcast Brian Thompson, JD/CFP, is a tax attorney and certified financial planner who specializes in providing comprehensive financial planning to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs who run mission-driven businesses. Luis Espindola and I sit down to discuss how his businesses evolved from Sheep's Clothing Company to Redefine Violence. We talk about the meaning behind the artwork we see on his clothing designs and how it all got started. Luis and I also dive into situational awareness and martial arts training and talk about the evil that unfortunately exists in our world. Luis attended the 2023 Gundies Awards in Texas, where he met pro shooters, influencers, and companies in the firearms world. We talked briefly about his experience there and what he learned from the event. The Reticle Up is produced in partnership with AmericanFirearms.org. Lay of The Land's conversation today is with Michael Kubinski — Founder & CEO of Cleveland Clothing Company. From printing tees in a basement to the Best of Cleveland!, Cleveland Clothing Co. has been spreading Cleveland pride one t-shirt at a time since 2008. They are independent, local, and family-owned. A one-stop shop for Cleveland-themed graphic tees, apparel, accessories, gifts, and more!Founded by two lifelong friends. One, a graphic designer, had always dreamed of starting a t-shirt company. The other, an entrepreneur, was looking for a fun new opportunity. One fateful night over some beers, chili, and burgers at one of their favorite spots, Whitey's in Richfield, Ohio, they decided to put their money where their mouth was and came up with a plan. They purchased a screen printing press, some blank t-shirts, and got to work on a couple of designs. Cleveland Clothing was born. They started a website, used social media to get the word out and spent $50 on business cards, which they left around local businesses. Word began to spread, and the company was literally "Spreading Cleveland Pride, One T-Shirt at a Time" as the guys screened and shipped the shirts themselves…and the rest is history, as they say — a history that we'll cover in our conversation today!
