Been addicted to house music since were were 16yrs old.This is the best time for house music we've ever seen. It's wonderful to be excited every week about new house tracks you've never heard at your favourite mp3 stores. House DJ/ Producer friends on facebook and twitter sharing their mixes, their youtube video picks of cool house related stuff- it's endless!! Parties with different types of house music all over the city, tons of up & comers and tons of great international House DJs visiting Toronto.Yes, there's too much house now, too many mixes, too many sub-genres and too many related electronic music- COMPLETE SYSTEM OVERLOAD!!But, hey... gone are the days where you are begging for a mixed house cassette tape by a popular dj and having the pickings be slim. Gone are the days of going to your favourite record stores each week, buying the same records as 30-50 other djs and everyone playing the same records. The selection was scarce compared to now. Gone are the days of paying $16.99 for a 4 track EP- where you only bought it for the one goosebump track.Now there's so much music out there that you can actually not sound like everyone else. You can listen to thousands of house tunes and the chances (at the sheer volume of what's coming out) of you sounding like someone else are small.And the best part? It's dirt cheap, after getting a 15-20% online discount coupon you end up paying $50-60 bucks for 30 traxs- what a thrill!!It's so good to be constantly re-excited (if there is such a word ; ) or re-energized about house. It's a ritual with Jim and I. Putting a few tracks every few days into our virtual bins or spending a weekend going crazy hunting for tracks that make us want to dance. Then listening to them together in a long car ride- finishing with some late night food in Chinatown or Greektown in downtown Toronto.Then it goes into iphone or ipod and listened to in pockets of time, more car rides, getting on the treadmill, then making a mix.Then another car ride together seeing if it makes us both happy- we've always DJ for ourselves and if some people like it along the way, then that's the cherry on top.Back to the house ritual... then going through the frustration of redoing the mix over and over again because it just wasn't fun enough, wasn't good enough or wasn't timeless enough. You just don't want to throw something together. If it's not special to you, it won't be to someone else.We want to make mixes where people would hopefully enjoy it enough to actually want to listen to it a 2nd time and if they listen anymore, then it's Christmas! In this day and age of having too much available and nothing getting any real attention- attention is a precious commodity. We don't value what is easily attained.Rather have a few hundred people that really love our brand of house music, then to have thousands of people who don't care and can't tell the difference. Worst to be background filler house.Usually make anywhere between 4-8 mixes from a selection of 60-90 tracks within a month or two (between the cracks of time sandwiched by work and family)- then the mix that moves us the most gets posted. What are your future plans with the label? A: It has actually grown faster than I could ever have imagined! It hasn’t even been running for a year yet and it seems to have gained a huge amount of momentum and exposure, which makes me super proud, as I run the whole thing completely by myself. At the moment I am really busy with my own gig schedule, so I’m just concentrating on promoting the current release, which is Nandu’s stunning artist album, and organising the upcoming releases which includes an EP from Slow Hearts and a release from Giorgia Angiulli featuring a remix from some guy called Marc DePulse, who apparently is not a bad producer?!! In terms of future plans, I’m currently working hard on developing the visual art side of the brand, and also expanding the website which features music & art reviews, interviews and our radio shows (www.constantcircles.com). I’m also hoping to put on some label showcases later in the year and into 2017, in different countries and venues, to allow me to showcase both the musical and visual artists involved with the label. In the long term I hope to develop it into a much wider concept involving music, art, fashion and education. Q: Most of the people also know Him_Self_Her. Did you stop the project or will it be continued one day? A: Of course, Him_Self_Her has been a huge part of my musical journey and we had some amazing releases on massive labels like Crosstown Rebels and Toolroom. But I was working by myself for a while before we became Him_Self_Her and it was always the plan to make more solo material, particularly so that I could express myself more from a musical and songwriting point of view. Also Leon had some personal issues that meant he had to take a step back from the project - so at the moment it is on hold, and actually things have gone pretty well with Just Her, so it’s unlikely that I will have time to go back to it. However Leon is a great friend and you never know, we might have a reunion one day! But for now we are both concentrating on our solo projects. Q: A few weeks after “Brexit“ now – how do you see the people living with this vote? A: To be honest I don’t think anyone knows what will happen from this point onwards, or if we will even end up leaving the EU, as the politicians that campaigned for “Brexit” have all disappeared and our government is in disarray. There is a lot of animosity and uncertainty in the UK right now, and I understand why people used this vote to try and get their voices heard and to try and bring about some change in difficult times, especially those facing huge inequality, poverty, unemployment & so on. People are unhappy and want a better life. Personally I voted remain for a lot of reasons – obviously because I love travelling and working around Europe. But also because I’m a firm believer in love, unity and peace, and I don’t think division and isolation is ever a good thing. We have had imaginary borders imposed on us and have been conditioned to believe that a variation in skin pigmentation makes us different from one another, but ultimately we are all one race, on one planet. So let’s all just love our fellow humans :-)

It is our pleasure to present you our guests for March, 06, 2015. The boss of "Casa D'Costa Label" DAMIAN D'COSTA all the way from Bahrain. Born & bred in the Middle East, Damian D’Costa is 1 of the few DJs in the region who has worked all his life towards his ultimate goals of DJing internationally & opening up his own clubs & bars. 20 years on & not holding back, Damian’s career goes way back to the 80’s where he started off as a turntabilist & has progressed through the years witnessing the birth of House music which makes him understand the genre better than many of today’s DJs. During university, the early 90s, saw Damian hold a 4 year residency in a major club in Limassol, Cyprus & on returning to his hometown Bahrain, he decided to use his marketing degrees to promote the nightlife in the region. He then began to organize his very own events which sparked him to put together some of the islands best beach, fashion & Underground parties. These included his own branded events (Xposure 2004, Parasoul, P.O.S.H.) plus organizing & hosting international brands such as the famous Full moon party & 2 FTV parties & several Formula1 events. Damian as a DJ has held residencies at some of the island's most famous clubs such as BJs, Tramps, Downtown, Likwid & Savage garden. In addition, he has also hosted his own 5 day a week radio show on the national radio station, 96.5fm for 4 years where he promoted most genres of House music educating the masses bringing the international club culture to the shores of the Arabian Gulf. Currently he has hosted Live on-line shows on top stations such as IdealClubWorldRadio & has recently moved on to a weekly Saturday show on theCastleClubRadio.com. In 2004 & 2006, Damian swooped 1st place at the world famous Heineken thirst studio competition & represented Bahrain for the regional finals. Through the years of his residencies, he has played alongside numerous International DJs (see galleries)& has landed gigs in major clubs & events around the world including Slovenia, Poland, Italy & clubs such as Dubai’s Trilogy, Ibiza’s El- Divino, Bora Bora & Space & London’s ‘TheGallery’ at the Ministry of Sound to name a few. Afflicted with the house bug? Don't worry, we know how you feel. Been addicted to house music since were were 16yrs old. This is the best time for house music we've ever seen. It's wonderful to be excited every week about new house tracks you've never heard at your favourite mp3 stores. House DJ/ Producer friends on facebook and twitter sharing their mixes, their youtube video picks of cool house related stuff- it's endless!! Parties with different types of house music all over the city, tons of up & comers and tons of great international House DJs visiting Toronto. Yes, there's too much house now, too many mixes, too many sub-genres and too many related electronic music- COMPLETE SYSTEM OVERLOAD!! But, hey... gone are the days where you are begging for a mixed house cassette tape by a popular dj and having the pickings be slim. Gone are the days of going to your favourite record stores each week, buying the same records as 30-50 other djs and everyone playing the same records. The selection was scarce compared to now. Gone are the days of paying $16.99 for a 4 track EP- where you only bought it for the one goosebump track. Now there's so much music out there that you can actually not sound like everyone else. You can listen to thousands of house tunes and the chances (at the sheer volume of what's coming out) of you sounding like someone else are small. And the best part? It's dirt cheap, after getting a 15-20% online discount coupon you end up paying $50-60 bucks for 30 traxs- what a thrill!! It's so good to be constantly re-excited (if there is such a word ; ) or re-energized about house. It's a ritual with Jim and I. Putting a few tracks every few days into our virtual bins or spending a weekend going crazy hunting for tracks that make us want to dance. Then listening to them together in a long car ride- finishing with some late night food in Chinatown or Greektown in downtown Toronto. Then it goes into iphone or ipod and listened to in pockets of time, more car rides, getting on the treadmill, then making a mix. Then another car ride together seeing if it makes us both happy- we've always DJ for ourselves and if some people like it along the way, then that's the cherry on top. Back to the house ritual... then going through the frustration of redoing the mix over and over again because it just wasn't fun enough, wasn't good enough or wasn't timeless enough. You just don't want to throw something together. If it's not special to you, it won't be to someone else. We want to make mixes where people would hopefully enjoy it enough to actually want to listen to it a 2nd time and if they listen anymore, then it's Christmas! In this day and age of having too much available and nothing getting any real attention- attention is a precious commodity. We don't value what is easily attained. Rather have a few hundred people that really love our brand of house music, then to have thousands of people who don't care and can't tell the difference. Worst to be background filler house. Usually make anywhere between 4-8 mixes from a selection of 60-90 tracks within a month or two (between the cracks of time sandwiched by work and family)- then the mix that moves us the most gets posted.
