"Strawberries" Perhaps best known as one of the co-founding members of the late great Australian band The Go-Betweens, singer/songwriter Robert Forster has been putting out critically acclaimed solo albums since his 1990 debut Danger In The Past. Over the years he added to his solo discography titles like Calling From A Country Phone and I Had A New York Girlfriend, and now the Brisbane-born Forster is checking in with his ninth solo effort Strawberries. The follow-up to 2023's rousing and affecting The Candle And The Flame, Strawberries is startlingly beautiful and emotionally precise. Produced by Peter Moren of Peter Bjorn and John, the eight numbers on Strawberries range from the jangling album opener "Tell It Back To Me" to the stirring blues of "Good To Cry." Elsewhere, the seven minute "Breakfast On The Train" is not only a great song, it also doubles as a great short story; the title track is a brilliant and simple study of the gobbling of strawberries as a metaphor for domestic bliss and the album closing "Diamonds" quite literally reaches new vocal heights for Mr. Forster. This is one of the best albums you'll hear--it's satisfyingly precise, unreasonably melodic and filled with observational wisdom, meditative self-analysis and quietly unforgettable character studies. This is a great chat--I love talking to Robert and I hope you dig listening. www.robertforster.net (http://www.robertforster.net) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)
Nikki talks with Peter Bjorn & John at Just Like Heaven Fest.
Approaching the 20th anniversary of the album which shot Peter Bjorn and John from Swedish indie obscurity to global mainstream success, Sarah sits down with Peter Morén and her trusty podcast co-host Björn Yttling as they prepare to take this very album – “Writer's Block” – on the road. Over the course of an hour, they let her in on plenty of band dirt from the past 30 years. From touring with their “Indian” rock band in the early 90s pre-John, to the dogmatic approach they use to write and record albums, to how they decided on Peter Bjorn and John as a name (and how to really spell it), and on to that hot midsummer day in 2006 when Victoria Bergsman quickly recorded her vocals on “Young Folks.” That epic track that would change it all. The conversation rounds off with reflections on future hopes for the band, how they maintain a healthy relationship to that viral track while writing album after album, and a decision on which of the three would qualify as the biggest brother in the band. Who could it be?
The ritual of spring cleaning takes on new life in this energizing episode as Matt and Sam craft the perfect soundtrack for transforming both your living space and your mindset. Rather than viewing cleaning as a chore, we reimagine it as a journey of renewal that deserves its own carefully curated playlist. Our unique approach divides the cleaning experience into two complementary sides. Matt's selections begin with the motivational power of Christopher Cross's "Ride Like the Wind" (complete with its surprising LSD-inspired origin story) and progresses through tracks that address both physical spaces and internal "cleaning" – recognizing that sometimes the most important decluttering happens within ourselves. From the practical reminders of "Car Wash" by Rose Royce to the introspective examination in "Demons" by Imagine Dragons, Side A creates momentum for your cleaning journey.Sam's Side B acknowledges the reality that before things get cleaner, they often must first get messier. Starting with Matt and Kim's aptly titled "Make a Mess," these selections guide you through the emotional process of letting go (with Peter Bjorn and John's "Objects of My Affection"), finding motivation when energy flags (Britney's iconic "Work Bitch"), and ultimately creating your own personal paradise (Coldplay). What emerges is more than just a playlist – it's a thoughtful exploration of how our physical environments reflect our mental states. By creating order in our surroundings, we often discover newfound clarity and peace within ourselves. Throughout the episode, we share personal insights about the connection between clean spaces and clear minds, offering listeners both practical motivation and meaningful reflection.Whether you're tackling a major decluttering project or simply tidying up for the new season, this musical journey transforms mundane household tasks into an opportunity for renewal. Put on your headphones, grab your cleaning supplies, and join us in creating spaces that nourish rather than drain us as we welcome spring.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/spring-cleaning-2025/pl.u-ppBRCdKjlz1. We had the pleasure of interviewing Doe Paoro over Zoom video.Nothing stays still forever, the spirit of nature growing upward towards something greater. Fueled by that understanding, Doe Paoro has spent much of the last year deep in the Costa Rican jungle, exploring ways that music could activate deeper consciousness. Today, the musician, born Sonia Kreitzer, recently released her new EP Divine Surrendering. By deepening her connection with rituals like sound baths, psilocybin ceremonies, and the healing power of music, Paoro's latest work allowed her to entrust in music's potential to be a wellspring of uplift in the midst of gossamer beauty. Like the rebirth Paoro experienced in her own journey, the EP finds comfort in a constant sense of newness, growth, and transformation. Throughout Divine Surrendering, Paoro returns to grand humility, harnessing her strength by losing the self, tapping into something immense and drawing the listener to that same place. About Doe Paoro:Sonia Kreitzer is a singer, songwriter, and sound healer who performs under the name Doe Paoro (ANTI- Records) and lives between Costa Rica and Los Angeles. She has written songs for artists such as Peter Bjorn and John, Monogem, and Chris Ayers. Other artist collaborations include work with Justin Vernon, Son Little, and RAC. Her songs have amassed over 25 million streams across digital platforms and been featured in shows like HBO's Girls, SyFy's Being Human, ABC's Secrets and Lies, and more. She also records guided meditations which have been featured on both Apple Music and InsightTimer. Sonia grew up in Syracuse, New York and has studied music over the years in India, specifically learning Tibetan Opera singing. She comes from a family of healers and is interested in music as a healing modality. When not on tour, she facilitates soundbaths, singing and yoga retreats, and music for ceremonial spaces. She is the creator of Activating the Voice, an online course and workshop series that is dedicated to empowering the voice and tending to vocal-centered trauma through singing. We had the pleasure of interviewing The National Parks over Zoom video! Folk-influenced male/female indie pop band The National Parks has released the official music video for their latest single, “Live Til We Die,” off their recently released album, A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1. The fun and colorful visual, directed by Cameron Gade with cinematographer Spencer Goff, sees the Provo, UT-based quartet take a step back in time to a 1980s-style late night talk show. On the heels of the album's release earlier this month, The National Parks successfully launched their very own curated festival experience, Superbloom Music Festival, on Saturday, October 9th . The first-ever event took place under the stars near Zion National Park at Sand Hollow Resort in Southern Utah in front of a soldout crowd of nearly 2,000. Created by the band as a celebration of life and music set amid a beautiful location, Superbloom featured performances from Yoke Lore, Joseph, Joshua James, Ellee Duke, Brother. and Arbour Season before The National Parks closed out the day-long extravaganza. A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1, released October 8th, marks the first half of the independent band's two-part digital-only project, which will see Part 2 released in early 2022. The 8-track collection, recorded at June Audio and produced and mixed by their longtime collaborator Scott Wiley, also features the singles “Headlights,” “Summer Bird” and “UFO,” the latter of which was recently featured on Ones To Watch's Now Playing playlist. A Mix For The End Of The World follows The National Parks' critically acclaimed 2020 album Wildflower and continues to showcase the band's sonic evolution and lead vocalist/guitarist Brady Parks' deep and heartfelt songwriting. Since emerging in 2013 with their introductory album Young, The National Parks — Brady Parks [guitar, vocals], Sydney Macfarlane [keys, vocals], Cam Brannelly [drums] and Megan Parks [violin] — have quietly grown into an independent phenomenon with roots embedded in blissful pop, cinematic electronics, organic orchestration, and rock energy. The four-piece has racked up over 150 million total streams, sold out headlining shows across the country, toured with Andy Grammer, Peter Bjorn and John and WILD, and performed at KAABOO Del Mar, SXSW and CMJ. Located at 73 E. 4th St., our store is right in the heart of the East Village of Manhattan. We like to keep our prices low and our customers delighted. Our store began in 1998 on Rivington Street, hence our name, and expanded to a larger location on East 4th Street in 2008. We have since opened an acoustic store called Rivington Guitars Unplugged on the same street as our main store. Besides selling fine vintage guitars, we also offer guitar lessons at affordable rates, rental services and appraisal services. Our website is updated daily and all our inventory is on our website. SUPPORT MUSIC IS NOT A GENRE ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE Remember Roxette? Ace of Base? How about the Cardigans? Avicii? Robyn? Or maybe y'know… freakin' ABBA?! What do they have in common? They're all from Sweden. So are Icona Pop, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Peter Bjorn & John, Swedish House Mafia, AND this week's spotlight band & my favorite Swedish export, the Hives. We here in the USA don't usually make a point of exploring music from other countries. It has to come to us. Face it, we'd remember the Beatles if at all as a minor British sensation if they hadn't broken major ground on our shores. It's how it's always been and still is to a large degree. Music listening is getting more multi-cultural, but by and large an artist has to break through to the US for anyone to know who they are. America is built on winner-takes-all competition. You get paid well if you already make money. You succeed if you're already successful. And it's only occasionally merit based. We have a lot of great music, but it's not because this country actually supports the arts. Other than a handful of generous benefactors and non-profit organizations, if you're an artist in the USA odds are you're poor & struggling & will continue down that path for years. That's not the case everywhere. No country is perfect. Poverty, racism & disease are everywhere. But it's a fact that some countries do some things way better than we do. We're so America-centric in all ways that we don't explore how other countries do what they do well. Like health care. Maternity & paternity leave. Respect & support for elders, children & teachers. ACTUAL support for veterans. AND support for the arts. Sweden is known for supporting & promoting their artists. Not just benefactors or organizations. The freakin' Swedish government. If you're an artist deemed worthy, the government gives you the ability to live while you do your work. You don't have to hold down three jobs, or one massively exhausting day job, or live with your parents, or not be able to afford anything. You can live a sustainable life while you're developing your art & your career. I don't know all the particulars. I'm sure there are caveats & pitfalls & discriminations. But it's starting from a place of believing that art & struggle don't have to be packaged together. That creating art is a profession as valuable & respectful as any other. We like to glamorize struggle because it makes us feel like martyrs for the cause AND because we want to believe there's a good reason for it. We're not martyrs. There's no good reason other than the same one that rules the rest of this country: the haves want to keep what they have & the have-nots can go suck it. This is how we got the Hives. They started in the 1990s, released their debut album, Barely Legal, in 1997, and broke big internationally in 2000 with their second album, Veni Vidi Vicious. Which is how I discovered them – lumped together as part of the early 2000s garage rock revival. They've kept it going ever since. They make music that sounds like completely unhinged punk, yet it all holds together. The Hives manage to capture their incredible live sound & spirit on recorded tracks better than almost any other punk rock band. They woke my ass up better than any American garage rock band & infused many of my subsequent songs with that same controlled punk energy. Including these two: REC – “Three More Minutes” REC – “Beautiful Love” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/musicisnotagenre/support
Peter Bjorn and John, you, and me.
Lykke Li is a singer and songwriter from Sweden. She started releasing music in 2007, and for much of her career, she's worked with producer Björn Yttling, who's also a member of the Swedish band Peter Bjorn and John. Her second album, Wounded Rhymes, came out 10 years ago. It was named one of the best albums of 2011 by the New York Times, Pitchfork, the Guardian, and more, and it won the Swedish Grammy for Best Album. The song "I Follow Rivers" was the breakout hit from that album, and for this episode, Lykke and Bjorn break down how they made it, with help from co-writer Rick Nowels. I spoke to the two of them while they were at Björn's studio, Ingrid Studios in Stockholm. For more, visit songexploder.net/lykke-li.
We follow up last week's nuanced depiction of the damage American prisons cause to those stuck inside with a wholly different take on the subject in "Escape" (S5E11). In this SVU, two ex cons buy their way out of the joint, galavant around the town in drag, and take Olivia Benson to the Jersey Shore. We meet one of Liv's former paramours, decide whether or not unfortunate early '00s fashion choices were the result of America's imperialist adventures overseas, and listen as Adam summons an ancient one. Music: Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business” 11:55 - Thin Lizzy - "Jailbreak" from Jailbreak (1976) 31:52 - Peter Bjorn and John - "Second Chance" from Gimme Some (2011) 44:31 - Rich Boy featuring Polow da Don - "Throw Some D's" from Rich Boy (2007) Next Week's Episode: Season 16, Episode 17 "Parole Violations"
Peter Bjorn and John are a Swedish indie pop/rock band, formed in Stockholm in 1999 and named after the first names of the band's members: Peter Morén (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Björn Yttling (bass guitar, keyboards and vocals) and John Eriksson, known in his solo work as Hortlax Cobra (drums, percussion and vocals). Yttling also worked as producer for the band's first four albums. They are best known for the 2006 single "Young Folks", which featured Victoria Bergsman, formerly of The Concretes, and was a top 20 hit in the UK Singles Chart, as well as being featured in football video game FIFA 08, MLB 2k13, the singing game Lips, as the school project in the film Bandslam, as part of the soundtrack of hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, as the opening track in the pilot episode of Gossip Girl and the theme tune to British Television adverts for Homebase store and Air New Zealand "Safety Safari" surfing video. It was also named NME's second-best track of 2006, beaten by "Over and Over" by Hot Chip.In Australia it was voted number 16 in the annual Triple J Hottest 100 for 2006. In recent years, Lars Skoglund of the band Laakso has filled in for Eriksson on drums and played bongos during some live shows since the latter developed tinnitus, and a shoulder injury on the tour for 2011's Gimme Some.https://www.peterbjornandjohn.com

6. Lou Reed的Goodnight Ladies(女士们,晚安)。这是他那张最伟大的摇滚的专辑Transformer《变形记》 里的歌,很像在军营里吹奏的催眠一般的低音号,有一种夜深沉的感觉,所以我觉得特别适合在演出结束的时候播放的晚安曲。

Swedish rockers Peter Bjorn and John have been proselytizing their pro-60s pop prowess since 1999, but the trio really took the indie world by storm back in 2006 with their dance-floor hit “Young Folks.” Ten years later, they're still artfully writing their whistle-catchy songs like the title track to their latest album, Breakin' Point. Live in the KEXP studio, Peter, Bjorn, and John hammer out four bright, upbeat songs and chat gregariously with DJ Cheryl Waters about a “secret society of Swedish pop” and the four years of trials and tribulations in making it to Breakin' Point. Recorded 08/31/16 - 4 songs: Breakin' Point, Do Si Do, In This Town, DominosSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
