Based out of Sonoma, California, Flying Lizard Motorsports is one of the most iconic sports car teams in motorsports, having celebrated ten driver and team championships, as well as competed internationally at the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times. The team currently races in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, GT America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT4 America, Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, and Porsche Sprint Challenge. The Lizards burst on the American Le Mans Series scene in 2004, becoming a Porsche factory-supported team in 2007, racing in the GT class. In 2013, the team moved to the GTC class, still competing in legendary events such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. After ten years of ownership, founder Seth Neiman sold the team to longtime Crew Chief Tommy Sadler, Chief Strategist Thomas Blam, and former Lizard driver Darren Law, who turned the team into a customer racing program. In 2014, the team expanded its program to include running two Audi R8 LMS in the TUDOR Championship, and in 2015, again expanded the program to include two Porsches in Porsche Club racing, and solidified a partnership to facilitate the running of the K-PAX Racing team in the Pirelli World Challenge series. Flying Lizard closed out the season with a dominating win at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with Toyo Tires. Flying Lizard has also competed in the 24 Heures du Mans from 2005 through 2012, finishing third in 2005, fourth in 2006, sixth in 2008, sixth in 2011, and fourth in 2012. To date, the team continues to run in professional sportscar racing, holding 10 championships, 108 wins, 214 podiums, and 340 top-five finishes. The Sonoma-based team operates four shops out of Sonoma Raceway, running machinery from some of the world's best manufacturers. Flying Lizard Motorsports has proven to be a championship contender no matter the race series or race car.

Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American musician, singer, composer, songwriter and bandleader. His work is characterized by nonconformity, free-form improvisation, sound experiments, musical virtuosity and satire of American culture. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa composed rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, orchestral and musique concrète works, and produced almost all of the 60-plus albums that he released with his band the Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. Zappa also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. He is considered one of the most innovative and stylistically diverse musicians of his generation. On a number of occasions Zappa appeared in radio show slots, airing and generally discussing his favored music, or occasionally guesting on a 'club turntable', describing himself as a 'Fraudulent DJ'. In this episode, part two of a series of two, all the tracks in chronological order as selected by Zappa (with exception of most of his own tracks) for all his DJ appearances that have been documented, and that took place between 1968 and 1984.

Welcome to “Punky Reggae Party” a special audio documentary series of the Ska Boom podcast that focuses on the historical origins and impact of reggae on popular music that will explore the phenomenon of punk and post-punk bands adopting the sounds of reggaeThe convergence of punk with reggae and ska in the late 70's and early 80's resulted in some significant musical developments leading some punk and post-punk bands in England to experiment with the sound of reggae and dub in particular.Reggae was natural for punks to mine as inspirational fuel, just as earlier rock ‘n' roll eras adopted ideas and energy from blues and R&B. And chances are quite a few English punks had more than a few scratchy Trojan 45s in their record collections and a love of reggae in their blood. Perhaps the most unlikely collaboration (or should I say collision!) of reggae and avant garde punk occurred in 1978 when David Cunningham (who was beginning to have success with the U.K. experimental post-punk band The Flying Lizards ) remixed a series of songs recorded by Jah Lloyd (who's give name was Patrick Francis), a well-known Jamaican-based reggae singer, deejay and producer. Though they never met face-to-face, Cunningham's mix of Jah Lloyd's songs remain a great example of the reggae/punk ethos. Though the songs remained unreleased until the mid-90's, 40 years on, this collection may be one of the more interesting and unusual dub collaborations albums of all time.Check out the Secret Dub Life of The Flying Lizards here: https://staubgold.bandcamp.com/album/the-secret-dub-life-of-the-flying-lizardsPlease note: The music clips included in this podcast fall under the “Fair Use Doctrine” as defined by Section 107 of the Copyright Act. Robin Zander (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar, backing vocals), Tom Petersson (bass, backing vocals), and Bun. E. Carlos (percussion) would get more complex on this album, incorporating orchestration and lengthening the tracks.Cheap Trick formed in 1973 by Tom Petersson and Rick Nielsen, and this album’s line up is the original members. Dream Police was completed and ready to release in early 1979, but the group decided to delay the release due to the success of their live album “Cheap Trick at Budokan.” Cheap Trick had a big following in Japan, and that energy really shows on the live album.Cheap Trick has a feel somewhere between new wave and rock, and their hits are spread out fairly evenly on their albums. In this case, there are two hits, the title track and "Voices," and the rest of the album would be deeper cuts. This makes this album an enjoyable one to hear from start to finish.Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.Dream PoliceThe title track and lead song off the album reached the top 30 on the charts, all the way to number 26. Songwriter and guitarist Rick Nielsen describes the song as part "Big Brother is watching you" and part trying to capture a deep thought from R.E.M. sleep.Way of the WorldOne of the more orchestral tracks, this song was co-written by Zander and Nielsen. It was released as a single, but didn't get much airplay. The orchestration reminded all of us of E.L.O. I'll Be With You TonightA deep track off the album, this song was co-written by the entire band. It has a classic "Cheap Trick" feel to it, that you would recognize as the band even if you hadn't heard it before. VoicesThis song was the second single released from the album in December, and reached number 32. When it was originally recorded, bassist Tom Petersson sang lead, but it was re-recorded for the album with Robin Zander on lead. Many vocals are layered in on this track, and session guitarist and Toto band member Steve Lukather plays on this track. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Rainbow Connection by Kermit (from the motion picture “The Muppet Movie”)Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets made their big screen debut with this hit movie. STAFF PICKS:This Is It by Kenny LogginsBruce's staff pick moved from a love song to a more spiritual thing when Loggins' father faced a serious health issue. Loggins' lyrics reflected a person who is suffering through pain, looking for a miracle, and needs to "stand up and fight." Michael McDonald co-wrote the song and his distinctive voice is easy to pick up as backing vocals. It reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award. An American Dream (featuring Linda Ronstadt) by the Dirt BandWayne features the group formerly known as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, dealing with the issue of wanting to go to Jamaica and not having the money to live so richly. Rodney Crowell originally wrote this song in 1978, and The Dirt Band would take it to number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a cover. We Don't Talk by Cliff RichardBrian's staff pick is a synth-heavy breakup song from UK superstar Cliff Richard. Richard became a Christian in the 60's, and releases a Christmas song every December which is usually a top 20 song in the UK. This is Richard's biggest selling song globally.Tusk by Fleetwood MacRob brings us the title track from Fleetwood Mac's follow-up to the highly successful Rumors album. This song is famous for utilizing the USC Trojan marching band, setting a record for the most number of musicians performing on a single. COMEDY TRACK:Money by The Flying LizardsThis spoken word novelty song picks up where the Beatles left off on this Motown song.
