Welcome to another episode of The Story of Rock and Roll Show. S7E25 went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 20 June 2024. This week the show came to you from Sedgefield in the Western Cape. There is a very different vibe down here, nothing like the madness and dysfunctionality of Johannesburg, I could live here. Anyway, back to the show, we had a ton of good stuff as we always do, it's a good mix of everything. This week we went with a Twisted Triplet and had three tracks called ‘Bad Habits'. Thin Lizzy, Thundermother, and The Monks did the honours. In the evolution of the Foo Fighters we have reached the Sonic Highways album, we listened to ‘In The Clear'. Immortals this week came from Iron Maiden, specifically the title track off 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The Diabolical Challenge has started again at the beginning of the alphabet. We looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘A'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Airbourne – Runnin' WildArapaho – Wicked WonderAlice Cooper – Billion Dollar Babies Arch Enemy – Sunset Over the Empire Finally, Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's Picks of the Week were Bob Dylan's ‘Tombstone Blues' for Bomb Croc and Slow Panda chose System of a Down's ‘Sugar'.See below for the full sequential playlist. We really are all about the music and the people that make it on Folk Roots Radio. We're giving over the whole of Episode 427 to an interview with Toronto based singer-songwriter Suzanne Jarvie who released her second album "In The Clear" earlier this year. In The Clear is a fabulous recording, and, as far as I'm concerned, the best album of 2019 so far. It's great interview – so good that I decided it would be a perfect way to kick off a new feature on the radio version of Folk Roots Radio, we’re calling... 'In Conversation'. Check out the full playlist on the website: http://folkrootsradio.com/folk-roots-radio-episode-427-in-conversation-with-suzanne-jarvie/
Suzanne Jarvie started writing songs for her critically acclaimed debut, 2014's "Spiral Road", while sitting with her son in hospital, as he recovered from a devastating fall down a spiral staircase. Her new album, "In The Clear", explores the wider impact of that accident on her family. The new recording, produced once again by Chris Brown at the Old Post Office on Wolfe Island ON, is a gorgeous slice of Americana songwriting - great songs with a lovely western feel, beautifully played by a fine supporting cast, and a crystal clear voice that comes over like Emmylou Harris in her prime. "In The Clear" is another winner - a fabulous recording , and, as far as I'm concerned, the best album of 2019 so far. We caught up with Suzanne Jarvie in Toronto to chat about the new album. Learn more about the music of Suzanne Jarvie at http://suzannejarvie.com. Music: Suzanne Jarvie "Headless Rider", "Point Blank", "In The Clear" and "One It Finds" from "In The Clear" (2019, Wolfe Island Records) CDN
