Send us a textUncovering the musical evolution of Gradients, this episode takes listeners behind the curtain with a Minnesota rock band crafting their sound somewhere in the gradient between hard rock, alternative, and metal. The conversation reveals how a college talent show in 2019 sparked what would become a serious musical endeavor, bringing together musicians with surprisingly diverse influences. What makes Gradients fascinating is their authentic approach to creating music. Three of the members hold audio production degrees and live together, allowing for a constant creative environment where songs emerge organically—sometimes from structured writing sessions, other times from spontaneous late-night jams. The band discusses how their influences range from the Beatles and 70s hard rock to more modern acts like Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys, creating a unique sonic fingerprint that defies easy categorization. The episode dives deep into their recording process, with the band handling all aspects of production themselves using Logic Pro and carefully planned microphone techniques. We learn how they've evolved from quick demo recordings to more sophisticated production approaches, while maintaining the raw energy that defines their sound. Drummer Trevor, who joined more recently, shares his perspective on learning songs that were already recorded and how his punk-influenced style complements the band's sound.Throughout the conversation runs a thread of friendship and camaraderie—from elaborate pranks (including fully carpeting a bandmate's bathroom) to their shared commitment to high-energy live performances. The band emphasizes how showmanship matters as much as technical skill, with the goal of creating memorable experiences for audiences. With upcoming performances at the Red Carpet in St. Cloud and a new album "Come What May," Gradients represents what happens when musical passion meets technical skill and genuine friendship.Want to experience Gradients for yourself? Follow them on social media to catch their upcoming shows and hear their latest releases.

Once again, it happened...! Pooka is in attendance at PAX Unplugged this weekend, and spent Friday afternoon rushing around doing on-the-spot interviews with creators whose work is somewhat Changeling-aligned. Herein are five short interviews about games that touch on the fae, dreams, imagination, and more. The sound quality in this minisode is particularly awful, which is what happens when you're doing interviews in a giant hall filled with 10,000 people, but at least everybody was as lovely and informative as they could be on a frantic day. Hopefully these will inspire you to seek out new and interesting games to expand your horizons, and if you happen to be at the convention, check out the booths in questions! Rock and Roll music (and conversation) that DESERVES to be heard!Skull Riot is a bone-crushing noisy band fronted by J. Ferron on bass and vocals. Their innovative approach to hard rock, metal, and stoner with their distinct screaming creates a unique sound that is pure electrifying energy. Based out of Los Angeles, CA, Skull Riot follows the steps of Mike Kerr and Royal Blood, creating a big wall of sound with riff-driven songs that you can headbang to. Sam Epstein joins the band in March of 2024 and with him behind the drums, their live sound becomes a head-turner. Their power was captured in the studio giving birth to their first EP: "Too Little... Too Late". With 5 songs total and just south of 14 min. of pure adrenaline, Skull Riot begins this journey exploring what can be done with just two instruments and a lot of heavy riffs.

This week: a new series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but more about artists with similar vibes, sharing a sonic landscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. We kick off this series with a band near and dear to both humble hosts. A band whose live show made us both immediate fans back in 2004; the amazing British power trio MUSE! Join us as we discover other bands influenced and inspired by MUSE's complex yet accessible modern rock. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It's been said that there is no originality left in rock n' roll and also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Tigercub – “Swoon” from The Perfume Of Decay (2023)Anchor Lane – “Stutter” from Call This A Reality? We had the pleasure of interviewing The Warning over Zoom video! The rock sister-trio from Monterrey, Mexico, The Warning, proudly present their much-anticipated new full-length album, Keep Me Fed [LAVA/Republic Records], out now! Listen HERE. Physical products are available at RepublicRecords.com, featuring CDs, vinyl, t-shirts, and fan packs [CD/t-shirt or vinyl/t-shirt]. Today the band also unveiled their new music video for “Six Feet Deep,” which made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop and across MTV's global network of channels, as well as on the Paramount Times Square billboards. About the record, the band commented, “This new album is the result of our rawest emotions and most meaningful connections with people we've gotten to know and work with these past few years. We're incredibly proud of this music and we can't wait for you to make it yours. From our hearts to you, this is Keep Me Fed.”Keep Me Fed finds the group at the peak of their powers. Over the course of thirteen tracks, the album balances stadium-size hooks with airtight riffing and thunderous rhythms. In talking about the story behind the decision to name the album Keep Me Fed, “throughout the whole process, the work was consuming us,” says Pau. “By impacting everything we did, the album kept us fed both creatively and personally. We're inviting other people to participate and consume it too.”Pre-release singles featured “MORE” (performed at the 2023 MTV VMAs [Watch HERE]), “S!CK” which climbed to Top 8 at Active Rock and #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, music videos for “Burnout” & Spanish track “Qué Más Quieres” premered with MTV, as well as “Hell You Call A Dream” and “Automatic Sun” which are already fan favorites to hear live. Revolver applauded, “Like the Mexican sister-trio's previous output, it's undeniably infectious,” and Classic Rock hailed it as a “shot-in-the-arm of propulsive, fire-spitting hard rock.” Rolling Stone pegged it as one of “All The Songs You Need To Know This Week.” The trio will embark on the ‘Keep Me Fed' US headline tour this September & October, making stops in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, and more, before joining Evanescence and Halestorm on tour in Canada. Check out the full confirmed itinerary below. Fans can purchase tickets here: https://thewarningband.comThus far in 2024, The Warning performed at ShipRocked in the Caribbean, Mexico's prestigious Pa'l Norte & Vive Latino Festivals, sold-out their April EU/UK headline tour, just wrapped their first headlining tour of Japan that included a show with Band-Maid, and will return overseas to EU/UK for summer festivals. Looking ahead to 2025, the band sold-out the 10k capacity Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City in less than 48 hours. The Warning are as hungry as ever on Keep Me Fed, and they're about to sink their teeth into 2024. Catch them on tour in the US this fall.ABOUT THE WARNING:The Warning draw strength and power from a lifetime of sisterhood and music. The Mexico-born sister trio—Daniela “Dany” [guitar, lead vocals, piano], Paulina “Pau” [drums, vocals, piano], and Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal [bass, piano, backing vocals]—have logged thousands of miles on the road, generated hundreds of millions of streams, and left countless fans in awe. All of this tireless work and dedication has shaped and sharpened their sound with knifepoint precision, arming alternative anthems with universally catchy hooks and an uncompromising hard rock kick. The girls have devoted themselves to a shared dream since their childhood in Monterrey, Mexico. They initially made waves with a string of independent releases, paving the way for their acclaimed 2022 full-length offering ERROR. Between performing alongside Muse, Foo Fighters, Guns N' Roses, Royal Blood, The Pretty Reckless, Three Days Grace and Imagine Dragons, the band ignited MTV's Extended Play Stage at the 2023 MTV VMAs. Representative of their cultural impact, Pepsi even notably chose them as the face of Pepsi Black in Mexico. Moreover, they emerged as the rare force who could comfortably appear in features by Vanity Fair, People, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour as well as on Metallica's star-studded Blacklist compilation—placing their cover of “Enter Sandman” [with Alessia Cara] shoulder-to-shoulder with contributions from Ghost, St. Vincent, Chris Stapleton, IDLES and Weezer. The Warning embrace their destiny on their 2024 full-length album, Keep Me Fed [LAVA/Republic Records] out now. The album was introduced by singles “MORE,” “S!CK” “Hell You Call A Dream”, “Qué Más Quieres”, “Automatic Sun”, and “Burnout”.We want to hear from you! He talks about the responsibilities of guiding younger players and how he balances respect and authority without distancing himself. This part of the discussion provides an inside look at the dynamics of a clubhouse and the leadership qualities that are valued in sports. It's an insightful peek into how a seasoned player like Salvy views his role and his impact on team morale and performance. The episode explores Salvy's personal growth and the cultural challenges he faced arriving in the U.S. from Venezuela at a young age. Robert Dudley is famous for being the favorite of the "Virgin Queen" Elizabeth I, but the death of his first wife, Amy Robsart would be his most enduring scandal. Amy, the jilted wife of a man who ignored her in favor of social climbing at court, was found dead at the bottom of a staircase. Whether it was an accident, a suicide, or foul play is a matter of debate to this day.Sign up for Dana's horror writing course!Support Noble Blood: — Bonus episodes, stickers, and scripts on Patreon— Merch!— Order Dana's book 'Anatomy: A Love Story' and its sequel 'Immortality: A Love Story'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Alexander Dumas is famous for his swashbuckling novel The Count of Monte Cristo, but more thrilling than fiction is the real-life story of his father, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas. Born the son of an enslaved woman, Dumas would become one of the most celebrated soldiers in the French army, and would end up on a collision course with another young general: Napoleon Bonaparte. The men knew they needed to get rid of Lorenzo de Medici, they just didn't know how. In the end, they decided the right place would be High Mass, on a Sunday, in the Cathedral of Florence. In the late 1700s, one man became a celebrated fixture of Parisian salon culture: he was a prodigy fencer, and then a brilliant composer and violinists. He befriended Marie Antoinette and lead one of the city's most famous orchestras. And he was the son of an enslaved woman, fighting against the stigma of his skin color in a world where it made him hyper-visible but didn't let him be truly seen.
