Why did Graeme McCormick decide to stand in the SNP leadership contest and why did he then withdraw his candidacy to allow John Swinney to be elected unopposed? We last chatted to Graeme McCormick in September 2023 about his proposals to dissolve the UK union and how that might come about (you can listen to that episode here https://www.podbean.com/eas/pb-axz4k-14a2c72 ) Since then, Graeme has stood for the Presidency of the SNP but was beaten by Mike Russell. He brought his case to the SNP's independence strategy conference which Humza Yousaf held and most recently, announced his intention to stand in the latest SNP leadership contest. In the event, John Swinney was elected unopposed. But just why did Graeme withdraw his candidacy? And where does he think the independence campaign needs to go next? This is a podcast version of an episode of the TNT show on Independence Live's Youtube channel. As a live broadcast, their episode was plagued with technical issues which we have edited out. David Powell appeared on John Drummond's TNT show recently with a worrying take on the proliferation of Freeports and Special Economic Zones across the UK and the sinister forces which may lie behind them. This is in marked contrast to the reassuring statements being made by the Scottish Government in relation to Green Freeports. Let us know what you think about both perspectives! David is a senior lecturer in Fine Art at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and describes himself as a "reluctant" political activist. He is a prolific commentator on twitter where he is better known as @EuropeanPowell You can watch the video version of this interview on Independence Live's Youtube channel Find our previous podcasts on Freeports here: https://yescowal.podbean.com/e/freeports-who-benefits/ https://yescowal.podbean.com/e/freeports-a-good-thing/ also: Richard Murphy blog on Freeports: https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/04/05/freeports-are-a-threat-to-free-markets-and-to-the-wellbeing-of-the-populations-of-all-countries-in-which-they-exist/ The Scottish Independence Podcasts team produce a NEW podcast episode every Friday search for Scottish Independence Podcasts wherever you get your podcasts. Our Rising Clyde episode this month reports from COP28 in Dubai. Dubai is the seventh biggest exporter of oil in the world and the President of this COP is himself the President of the Abu Dhabi Oil Company. That in itself has raised a few eyebrows. We look at what's at stake, at the end of the hottest year ever recorded. If world leaders are doing so little, why should we continue to pay any attention at all to what happens at the COP? Host Iain Bruce talks to Becky Kenton-Lake, the Coalition Manager at Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, and Nathan Thanki, of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative. This week on Growing Great Philadelphia we are airing a very special presentation. We had the pleasure of hosting an intimate conversation with Dan Hilferty, CEO of Independence Blue Cross and the new Chair of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia in front of a live studio audience at their state-of-the-art customer experience center, Independence LIVE. Dan, a Greater Philadelphia native, shared his insights about growing up in our community, his career, and the future of healthcare.
We spoke with Dan in front of a live studio audience at their spacious and welcoming facility known as Independence LIVE. Matt Cabrey, Executive Director of Select Greater Philadelphia, a council of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia moderated this candid conversation with Dan that provides an inside look into a man on a mission to transform how healthcare is delivered and who is driven by a pure desire to help others live better lives. Dan also discussed how the team at Independence Blue Cross is revolutionizing healthcare by harnessing the very latest ideas and technologies to deliver access to care that surpasses expectations.
The 171st episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast is mostly a speech by Dr Philippa Whitford (a previous guest on the show). I'm sure you do, but just in case you didn't know, Dr Whitford MP is an SNP MP but before her time in politics she was a consultant breast surgeon, one who also worked as part of UN mission in Gaza and even a couple of years ago went to the West Bank to operare on four women suffering from Breast Cancer. The speech, principally about the Scottish Health service, was at Clermiston and is reproduced here courtesy of Independence Live.At the end of the speech I left the Q & A section in because most of the questions from the floor were, I imagine, exactly the ones the majority of listeners to this podcast would have asked, and she also gave some good responses. Finally, before that main course of the podcast begins, I put in a little starter when it seemed, just for a second, that the BBC was going to go somewhere it never ever goes.Hope you enjoy.LINKShttps://twitter.com/Dr_PhilippaWhttps://twitter.com/liveIndyScothttp://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwellhttps://www.facebook.com/TheScottishIndependencePodcast
The 166th episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast features, amongst other things, an interview with Peter Swain of Pensioners for Independence (courtesy of Independence Live). You'll also find out why I was very tempted to call the episode "Archie, Archie, What's the Score?", even if part of that joke will only make sense if you were born before 1985.I also had to include Boris Johnson, or as he is known in Scotland, Bawjawz, trying to justify some of the worst Tory behaviour. As he does so, he is kind enough to show just how far removed from you and the rest of reality in the process. Finally, there's a semi-unrelated part relating to how the BBC will shut down certain discussions if you go off script.Hope you enjoy.LINKShttp://pensionersforindependence.scot/http://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwellhttps://www.facebook.com/TheScottishIndependencePodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/user/IndependenceLive
Travis and Jason reveal the 3 pillars of Location Independence while recording, for the first time ever, on Facebook to a live audience.
Episode 142 of the Scottish Independence Podcast is a talk given by Dr Craig Dalzell (interviewed in episode 134) at the recent Scottish Independence Convention.Craig's talk was with regard to who did and didn't vote for independence last time round, how the picture has changed since then and what sort of strategies we should be looking at to get us over the 50% line. It's a very important listen, and thanks to Craig and to the good people at Independence Live for letting me reproduce it here.LINKShttp://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/thecommongreenhttps://twitter.com/mgreenwellhttp://independencelive.net/
The 104th episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast is a talk on the post-referendum economic situation, given by one of our previous guests, Ivan McKee . I'll also be interviewing Ivan soon for another episode, but before we get there, I think it'd be enlightening to have a listen to this first. Before the referendum Ivan toured the country with a presentation that managed to reach a lot of people. In this new talk, he rivisits some of that material but also adds much more and explains where he sees us now in the post-ref environment, and he also explains in which direction he thinks we ought to be travelling. Thanks to Independence Live for allowing me to reproduce the talk.Hope you enjoy…LINKShttps://twitter.com/Ivan_McKeehttps://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/category/the-scottish-independence-podcast/http://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwell
For the 100th (sort of) episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast I spoke with Kevin and Gerry from Independence Live. Before and after they have been doing a wonderful job of documenting the political discourse in Scotland in recent times, and they do it live, and it is free!We talked about their work and their motivation and we also got on to most memorable (good or bad) pre-referendum moments and opined on where we are all going from here.Hope you enjoy...LINKShttp://www.independencelive.net/https://www.youtube.com/user/IndependenceLive/videoshttps://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwell
The 68th episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast comes from a recent yes event in Motherwell with thank to Independence Live, who are making a great job of filming these events).Scotland is full of Independence events at the moment, and the Yes campaign is reaching many many communities around Scotland.Obviously however, it is not possible for everyone to go to every meeting, and it is not possible for some to go to any meetings, so I think it is important to spread the ones that are recorded around as much as possible. In that spirit, mixed in with the interviews in the normal podcasts and For A' That series, I hope to be bringing you more podcasts of events around Scotland too.At this particular event, the speakers were firstly Robin McAlpine, in fine angry form. He was followed by Cat Boyd and finally Jim Sillars had the chance to explain his ideas without George Galloway repeating the same sentence at him ad infinitum.Hope you enjoy…LINKShttp://michaelgreenwell.wordpress.com/https://twitter.com/mgreenwellhttps://twitter.com/kittycatboydhttps://twitter.com/NaeFearhttps://twitter.com/ReidFoundation
