Lauren Ross is a proud member of a rare group—one of fewer than 500 professionals dually certified as both a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). In 2022, she founded Precision Therapy, a Medicaid-funded therapeutic consultation service designed to deliver impactful, client-centered care. Her innovative model blends naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions (NDBIs) with hands-on caregiver training to support meaningful, individualized goals. What sets Lauren apart is her commitment to serving individuals beyond the “services cliff,” working with clients across the lifespan—including adults well into their 80s!Through a thoughtful combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), collaboration, and ongoing data-driven planning, Lauren and her team create customized support plans that fit both the client's goals and the caregiver's capacity. At the heart of her work is the belief that true progress lies in generalization—the ability to apply learned skills in real-life settings. By using naturalistic interventions embedded in daily routines, Lauren helps adults not just build skills but live them.#autism #speechtherapy What's Inside:Why is naturalistic intervention important? The adult services “Cliff”.Caregiver training through therapeutic consultation.Mentioned In This Episode:Precision Therapy PLLCPrecision Therapy PLLC (@precisiontherapyva) on InstagramMembership - ABA Speech ABA Speech: HomeHeart to Heart Parents: Mindful Tools for Raising Spiritual and Conscious KidsA space for conscious parents to connect spiritually and mindfully with their kidsListen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

Brandon Franklin returns to the podcast after a very long hiatus. You'll have to go back to Session 36 to hear his first appearance as a matter of fact. It turns out that he's been doing a lot of innovative clinical work in that time. Currently, he is the Chief Behavior Analyst for the Lee Specialty Clinic and a Behavioral Consultant at Kramer Behavioral Health. In these roles, Brandon has implemented various interventions to help individuals with intellectual disabilities access routine medical and dental care. If you're not familiar with this topic, it might sound pretty mundane, but as you'll hear, these populations really struggle to attend and participate in routine medical appointments, which, not surprisingly, has downstream negative health consequences. As such, interventions that improve on the current statistics can truly be considered life-saving. In this podcast, we get into the following: Common phobias associated with medical treatments. Brandon's personal experience with aerophobia (the fear of flying), and what he did to improve it. The basics of desensitization strategies. How he and his team members use these strategies to improve the rate of successful medical appointment visits. And finally, the research on this topic that he is doing for his dissertation. Brandon has generously compiled a list of references, which you can find here. He's passionate about this topic and is willing to talk with anyone about it, so feel free to hit him up on LinkedIn. Here's all of Brandon's contact info. Here's all the desensitization resources you could ask for. This podcast is brought to you by: Frontera. Drs. Peter Gerhardt and Shanna Bahry join me to talk about a range of topics centering around supporting adults with ASD and related disabilities. They are the authors of the new book, Make it Meaningful: Creating Programs that Matter into Adulthood for Learners with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders. In this conversation, we talk about how ABA services are skewed towards younger populations, how programming for younger learners might look different if practitioners knew more about the unique needs of adult service recipients, risk aversion and other barriers to promoting independence, their 'wishlist' of skills that they'd like to see all adults with disabilities learn, having difficult conversations with parents, and lots more. Of course we discuss their book, the resources their book provides, and how these resources relate to other functional skills curricula that are out there... such as Essential for Living. Why is it that whenever someone “thinks of the children”, a sex worker is harmed in the process? In this episode, Hannah and Maia tell the story of Backpage - the classifieds website that came crashing down when instances of child sex trafficking was discovered in its seedy underbelly. But while the crusade against the site and its free-wheeling founders seemed well intentioned, the act that was used to take them down (FOSTA-SESTA) has had massive consequences for the freedom of the web, and most importantly, for sex workers. You can never be too altruistic if John McCain is in your corner. Listen for targets such as: Timothée Chalamet's galaxy print leggings and Hannah being a wittle baby, and Taken (2008)'s continued gorilla grip on our culture. If they don't have the resources to hire a caretaker, or time to provide full-time care themselves, navigating this transition into adulthood can be really challenging. And that's just care. What about finding opportunities for joy? Today, we'll hear from a few young adults living with disabilities and parents in Middle Tennessee. And a policy liaison from Tennessee Disability Coalition will round up some of the resources that are available in our region. Plus, we'll visit a rehearsal for Backlight Productions' upcoming rendition of "Beauty and the Beast," featuring nearly 50 actors with disabilities. The performance runs May 27 and 28 at the Nashville Children's Theater. Guests: Clay Booker, Franklin High student in the Transition program, has autism and ADHD Barry Booker, father of two sons with autism Dave Krikac, father, founder of Our Thrift Store, regional VP of Adult Services at Health Connect America Melissa Smith, executive director, Backlight Productions Fernanda Aguilar, young adult with special abilities, Backlight student, employee at Full Circle at Brentwood's YMCA Jeff Strand, coordinator of government and external affairs at Tennessee Disability Coalition Produced by Andrea Tudhope.

On this episode of The Jason Cavness Experience I talk to Leon Richardson - Director for the Adult Services Division within King County's Department of Community and Health Services We talk about the following and other items Being a U.S. Army Reserve Officer Adult Services Division within King County's Department of Community and Health Services Importance of collaboration Focusing on removing barriers Leon's Bio Mr. Leon Richardson is the Director for the Adult Services Division within King County's Department of Community and Human Services. He assumed these duties on July 26, 2021, after most recently serving as the Division Deputy Director and as the Director overseeing operations for the county run vaccination sites. He is a native of Washington State, and a graduate of the Washington State University and the New Mexico Military Institute. He is still actively serving in the United States Army Reserve and his career to date has been filled with public service at the port, city, and county levels. In 2020, Leon established and led operations for DCHS's COVID-19 Isolation/Quarantine (Assessment/Recovery Facilities) and was the leader of King County's high-volume vaccination sites in Auburn and Kent. As the Director for Adult Services, Mr. Richardson focuses on removing barriers and ensuring that King County provides services that deliver the most equitable opportunities for people to achieve their greatest potential. His division has the responsibility for providing Adult human services to the residents of King County. Within this portfolio some of the things he oversees are the veterans, seniors, housing, domestic violence, and civil legal work. A lot of this work is accomplished through the over 280 contracts with community partners to develop, support and provide human services. Mr. Richardson passion is serving those in need and ensuring that resources are accessible by all who need them. He firmly believes that we need to be the change we want to see in our community and that we achieve this through collaboration and teamwork. Leon's Social Media Leon's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leon-richardson-90a16869/ Department of Human Services website: https://kingcounty.gov/depts/community-human-services.aspx Adult Services Division website: https://kingcounty.gov/depts/community-human-services/adult-services.aspx Leon's Email: lrichardson@kingcounty.gov Leon's Advice I would also just throw a plug out there that right now we're doing community conversations for the Veteran seniors in the Human Services lobby. One of the things that we're looking at is, is there a need in the community? That is that people feel that the government is really being responsive to them. One of the things that we pride ourselves on is filling the gaps, recognizing that we're in this large system between local government, state and federal and whether there's like programs or maybe programs only at one particular level. The need is vast beyond that, or maybe there's a state program and a federal program that work together. But then there's a gap in between where people potentially aren't eligible or don't qualify, or whatever the thing may be in order to receive services or the health data they need. Where are those spaces and we we like to hear that and figure out how we can be more responsive to the community Our Affiliates Close.com - If you hate your sales CRM or know that you inevitably need to make a change because what you have is not working, certainly check out Close.
