If you were an athlete in the past or present, this episode will resonate deeply with you (still listen if you aren't though!). Once you set your eyes on an athletic goal, the focus and obsession to obtain it becomes both intoxicating and all consuming. There's an expiration date on every athletic career and sometimes… you don't reach all of your ambitious goals. My guest today has an athletic resume that rivals most being a 2 time world champion, 4 time X-Games champion, 4 time national champion, and ESPY nominee. However, the Olympics alluded her and she explains very vulnerability how that still haunts her to this day. Jen Hudak joins us today on the podcast to discuss her athletic journey, the importance of coaching and seeing things from a different perspective, and what she is doing now with the creation and growth of Escapod.   Time Stamps:   (0:20) Please Share, Rate, and Review! Innovative, paradigm-shifting, champion-inspired cult camper moving and shaking! Jen and Chris Hudak have moved Escapod travel trailers, shaken up their own world, they're changing world of teardrop campers, and they've built a collaborative business model in a burgeoning CoupleCo effort that began in a garage, expanded to an antique gas station with one employee, and now occupies an enormous space filled with employees in what was once a Ford dealership. In two years, they've expanded production exponentially, moving from selling dozens of units to hundreds. And they still can't meet the overwhelming demand. In short: the Hudaks are crushing it. In this episode, we discuss the realities of success, what it really means, and the emotional preparedness it requires. And what happens when, despite your desire to remain totally independent, you really do need to consider using OPM (Other People's Money)?

Jen Hudak is an American freeski athlete specializing in halfpipe skiing. She is a 2-time world champion, 5-time X-Games medalist and 4-time national champion.   In 2010, she won nearly every competition there was: X-Games, US Open, World Ski Invitational, Dew Tour, and US Nationals, to name a few. But one contest eluded her: The Olympics. She had a vision that halfpipe skiing would be an Olympic sport and served as a proud advocate for the sport over her 13-year professional ski career. With the help of Jen's efforts, halfpipe skiing made its Olympic debut during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.  But as she pursued her quest to add "Olympian" to her highly successful list of career achievements, the unthinkable happened.  Horrific injuries and in addition, one of her competitors dying.  She had to rethink her goals.  To make matters even harder and more devastating, her father passed away, losing in a 5 year battle with a rare form of leukemia. The world had turned upside down on Jen.  Losing her father whom she had a close relationship with, dealing with the harsh reality of being a retired professional athlete, and feeling like she had lost her purpose was incredibly hard. What happened next? She dusted herself off and started making new choices, one after another.  Here's a quote I like from her website: "My life is a constant work in progress. I still struggle with balancing masculine and feminine energy, overcommitment & burnout, fully accepting myself & all my shortcomings, learning to love my body as it is (not based on physical performance or aesthetic), saying "no" with love & grace, and engaging with conflict from a place of deep compassion & curiosity." Jen hasn't stopped there.  She is a new mom to baby Hudson, is the co-host of the podcast, Balanced Pursuits and Co-Founder of the teardrop trailer company, Escapod Trailers.   Topics Discussed in the Podcast  Jen's husband changing his last name to Hudak Her first dream why skiing? insecurity & self-worth Olympic dream how goal setting has changed for Jen getting confidence back despite injuries how to use visualization being a mom and entrepreneur- new identities   Listen Now   Resources Follow Jen Hudak on Instagram Visit Jen at JenHudak.com 2 Ways to Give Back to the Show     ________________________________________________   Don't Miss an Episode: Subscribe!

Transitions can be tough. Especially in the wake of falling short of a dream you've worked for more than a decade to achieve. But that's exactly the position Jen Hudak, freestyle skier turned writer and life coach, found herself in after a crash tore her ACL, knocked her out of contention to be named to the first-ever U.S. Women's Olympic ski halfpipe team and effectively ended her professional skiing career. Well versed in mental toughness as a former world champion skier, Jen joined Matt to discuss the transition away from skiing into the “real world,” as well as themes that include facing your fears, the power of visualization, having willingness to fight through adversity and so much more for the Mental Toughness Podcast.

Jen Hudak is a retired professional skier, avid mountain biker, co-founder of Escapod Trailers, and a self-proclaimed Dream Believer. Jen takes us on a journey of self realization and following your true passions. While training and competing to be a potential Olympian, her body, her community and her family had other plans. She kept chasing this singular goal of becoming an Olympian, and subsequently, her love of the sport and her passions in life faded (after many injuries and terrible tragedies). Now Jen is a full-on entrepreneur mastermind and speaks with us about vulnerability and how to create and go after challenges that will actually feel good and bring you joy. She used the same fear management techniques and visualization skills that she developed in her ski career to get her life back on track. She took a thorough inventory of how she was living and began to close the gap on the life she wanted to live. Jen was ruthless with her time as she built the bridge from one life to the next and she cultivated empowered thoughts instead of misguided ones. We are back in cow country, Utah talking with Jen and Chris Hudak of Escapod travel trailers. These two are dynamic, likable, and a really interesting example of couplepreneur cooperation. Jen has been a multiple-medal-winning freestyle skier in halfpipe, and Chris has traveled the world as a competitive mixed martial artist. Chris has also had a career in the restaurant business, and Jen has another business as a life coach. These two are objects in motion. Today, we hear about signing the mortgage and then quitting your job. There was the brief time they had their business at the hippie commune. There’s the value of good communication and appreciation in avoiding resentments. Chris can break down a problem for Jen—which Jen hates until she doesn’t. And, is trying to compete in a saturated market with another travel trailer a mistake? Maybe…or maybe not. And why did Chris Moore become Chris Hudak, anyway? Because it’s a really cool name? Let’s find out…

We’re traveling to cow country in the greater Park City, Utah area to meet our first-ever manufacturing CoupleCo, Chris and Jen Hudak of Escapod Trailers. If you’re a skier or a fan of The Amazing Race, and “Jen Hudak” sounds familiar, that’s because she is that Jen Hudak: the multiple-medal-winning freestyle skier in halfpipe who took part in Amazing Race season 30 in 2018. If you follow mixed-martial arts, you might know her husband by his former name, Chris Moore. He has competed in mixed martial arts internationally, which qualified him for an equally dangerous task in turning around underperforming restaurants. Do not mess with these people. They are lovely—lovely and dangerous. They’re also a complete delight. Presently, they own a travel trailer business that started as a side hustle, and now produces a compact, rugged camper that is an object of desire in the mountain biking subculture. It’s a really good trailer and it’s affordable. We’re going to hear how this side hustle happened, and how they’ve made it work. They have serious business objectives that are less about building an empire and more about building a lifestyle. We’re also going to hear about the salad days and the all-nighters—and how they maintain a high level of cooperation amid potential conflict.

This week I am bringing you another interview episode! I sat down with my so inspiring friend Jen Hudak and we talk about alll offf thee thingsss. More specifically we dig into our “why,” and how that question is so important for differentiating between something we are forcing ourselves to do vs something we actually want to do (along with the importance of letting go of expectations). We also talk about our inner critic and that while she has lead us to great successes we can also use different and nicer tools to bring us to where we want to be (causeeeee she can be pretty mean). We discuss what it means to have a purpose (and that it doesn’t have to be some grandiose thing), how to redefine different words we use in our day to day life and so,so much more.A little about Jen: Jen Hudak is a 2-time X-Games gold medalist and 2-time world champion halfpipe skier. In late 2015 she announced her retirement from the sport after a series of injuries and her father's death led her to reevaluate her life's priorities. Jen landed herself a desk job 6-months later and prepared to earn a living in a more traditional way, but it never felt right. Over the next three years, she would do a lot of soul searching, reflecting, and persisting. In late 2017, Jen unexpectedly had another dream realized - a chance to compete on the Amazing Race. It was this adventure that reconnected her to her purpose of inspiring others to follow their hearts, push past self-limiting beliefs and live an extraordinary life. Jen & her teammate went on to earn the highest average finish of any female team in the show's history. They also became the only team, male, female or co-ed, to never finish below 3rd place from start to finish in all 30 seasons. Jen left the race feeling reenergized and motivated to launch her personal development & wellness coaching business, Balanced Pursuits, where she helps multi-passionate women get clear on their second act, identify blocks that are keeping them stuck, and teaches women to look fear in the face and take action despite of it.I so loved this conversation and hope you do as well!!Connect with Jen:InstagramFacebookWebsiteAdditional Resources:Hang out with me on Instagram (@stephaniedankelson)Move with Radiance - Coaching Package InfoSchedule yours!
