In the 80s, music was vital in bringing young people together in a spirit of rebellion and counterculture. Punk and post-punk was huge and Chicago had its fair share of awesome rockers, some of whom have been forgotten until now.Our story today begins with our neighbor and dear friend, Eric Clements, who discovered a giant box of cassette tapes at a thrift store. Among the massive collection of pop music was a few cassettes of a band he never heard of called the Veil, whose rock music and strong lead vocals by Lorna Donley could easily have been played in rotation on MTV or featured in a soundtrack of a John Huges film.Eric fell in love with the music and while he couldn't find much information about the band at first, his detective work led him on a path of discovery.Today writer Eric Clements joins us to talk about bringing the band Lorna Donley and The Veil back from the cultural abyss with a new release of music nobody ever heard until now.LORNA DONLEY AND THE VEIL: https://lornadonleyandtheveil.bandcamp.com/ERIC CLEMENTS: http://ericclements.workPlus--• Madonna pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe in her latest photoshoot for V Magazine.• The Baltimore Museum of Art dedicates a new set of all-gender restrooms to filmmaker John Waters.• Mariah Carey says it's now time to play All I Want For Christmas is You.• Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the preserve, Tiger King 2, the sequel to the outrageous documentary on private zoos, big cats and meth, is coming to Netflix this month.

content: Feb 17, 2018 · podcast: Mar 27, 2018 Audio (MP3): 20180217 - A get-together this coming Saturday I’m *thinking* about having a get-together this coming Saturday, February 24th. If you’re reading this you’re invited. It would be a social mixer of sorts with snacks and drinks. No, I’m not making you all dinner. Tater-tots could possibly be available. It would be kid friendly, too, since Maggie would also be hosting. Also, since you all know me you know that I don’t drink anymore. It’s not that I didn’t like drinking, it was more that I didn’t like to stop drinking. Yes, you could bring a bottle of wine but no boxed wine. You could bring a bottle of your favorite stout but no six-packs. You get idea. Now hold your horses. This also isn’t some get-together where you tell your friends and then people fill my house like it’s an 80s movie. Kelly LeBrock wouldn’t be showing up the next morning with her science magic to put the furniture back in place. However, I may put on Oingo Boingo. I may also channel John Huges, maybe Ferris Bueller would be on the TV. Before I go full-tilt with this kinda thing and decide to *actually* do it, is anybody interested? #tatertotmixer #diariespodcast Kelly K · Feb 17, 2018 at 4:59 pm Tater tots, Oingo Boingo, Ferris Bueller!
