I just happened to be presenting on KINDNESS in Memphis when I hear that Celia Imrie was in the same location on her book tour of "Meet Me at Rainbow Corner". She graciously accepted my offer for a quick interview and was simply delightful. Although she politely disputed the name of my company by sensing that "Many People DO!", we had a lovely discussion about KINDNESS, ambition, and "doing". Her best-selling books seem to have a theme of empathy and being nice, which she attributes to her personal philosophy. Celia is best known for her film roles, including the Bridget Jones film series, Nanny McPhee, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and the Netflix series The Diplomat. This interview was live from the Peabody Memphis hotel as we discuss her journey as an Olivier Award winner, a celebrated actress, and an author known for her themes of kindness and empathy. Celia highlights the importance of continuous effort and optimism, sharing her experiences of receiving warmth and hospitality while traveling across America. The conversation also touches on the significance of kindness, how it influences her writing, and the impact of wartime struggles on human relationships. More information on her books here: http://bit.ly/410fB8N More information on IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0408309/ To listen to additional podcasts on people that "do": https://bartaberkey.com/podcast

Special Guest Tom Aulb  In this episode of "Live into Your Best Life," host Paulie Skaja chats with Tom Aulb, a versatile professional whose career spans roles such as banker, software engineer, project manager, consultant, and trainer. Tom's journey was notably shaped by a significant layoff at a local company during his internship at age 21, influencing his career approach to emphasize small teams, continuous improvement, and paying it forward. Since 2014, Tom has focused on revolutionizing consulting by integrating training, implementation, and consulting into a dynamic 12-week program. His expertise in adult learning techniques informs his agile methodology training courses. Tom and Paulie reflect on their careers, favorite jobs, and the importance of finding work fulfillment. Notable moments in Tom's career include his impactful time at Daugherty Business Solutions and a realization at the University of Minnesota about the importance of being close to the actual work. Tom's consulting philosophy is centered on adding value, continuous improvement, and helping clients see and address their blind spots. He discusses the challenges and rewards of coaching, emphasizing that true coaching involves guiding clients to make their own informed decisions rather than just giving advice. His method involves presenting clients with comprehensive data to support their decision-making. The episode highlights Tom's emphasis on understanding how different people process information and make decisions. He stresses the importance of adapting communication styles to fit others' needs, which is crucial in coaching. Tom talks about the satisfaction of seeing clients become self-sufficient, likening it to "Nanny McPhee-ing" oneself out of a job. Emotional intelligence, shaped by personal relationships and parenting, plays a significant role in Tom's coaching approach. He shares how his family dynamics have fostered patience and varied viewpoints, enhancing his ability to guide others. Tom also discusses the balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application, critiquing traditional consulting methods for being overly theoretical. He advocates for a hands-on approach where teams solve real problems in iterative cycles, gaining skills and confidence through practical experience. Listeners are encouraged to reflect on their own career paths and consider how early interests might inform their professional lives. Tom's journey from sports to coaching exemplifies how early passions can evolve into fulfilling careers. For those interested in coaching, agile methodologies, or team development, Tom offers resources and training programs focused on practical results and sustainable change. Continuous learning and adaptability are key themes, ensuring methods remain relevant and effective. Kinabukasan, maaga siyang bumangon at umalis. Pagninilay: Sa pelikulang “Nanny Mcphee”, may tanyag na linya na sinasabi siya, “When you need me, but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me, but no longer need me, then I have to go.”

This week's episode is an honorable tribute to late acting legend Dame Angela Lansbury who passed away tranquilly last year at ninety six. Dame Angela Lansbury was an Irish-British and American actress, dancer and singer whose extraordinary career graced the silver screen, prime time television and the stage. Her career had humble beginnings as she took small roles in classic low budget movies after signing a contract with MGM. Her breakout role was in The Manchurian Candidate (1962). This catapulted her into stardom and gave her an opening to branch out into Broadway. From Mame to Gypsy to Sweeney Todd to the King and I, she commanded the stage with star power. But, she was far from done with Hollywood as she gravitated toward sweet, matronly roles in children's films. She gained much notoriety as the voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Who can forget her magical antics in Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Anastasia, Nanny McPhee and Mary Poppins Returns are other family films she so beautifully acted in. Murder She Wrote, as we all know, was the television hit show that featured her as a widowed mystery writer who was also an amateur sleuth. Her impressive array of awards includes six Tony Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, six Golden Globes, a Laurence Olivier Award, an Honorary Academy Award, eighteen Primetime Emmy Awards and a Grammy. Peter Shaw was her producer husband whom she was married to for over fifty years until his passing. They had two children whom she had to rescue from the Charles Manson Cult and drugs when they hit their teenaged years. So charitable and loving, she was very active in AIDS awareness and in helping struggling artists get their big break. Along with my trusted co-host, good friend and performing arts connoisseur Anthony Bonilla, I pay an homage to the legacy of one of the most beloved actresses of all time.

Highly respected British actor, screenwriter and environmental activist, Dame Emma Thompson, says her latest film challenges the 'cougar' label put on women who're in relationships with younger men. In GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE she plays a widow, Nancy, who hires a younger male sex worker. They come to form a close relationship that's both intimate and emotional. Dame Emma says in life and on screen we're used to seeing older men with younger women, but society still can't cope with the idea of an older woman in a genuine relationship with a young man. Her film credits include The Remains of the Day, Love Actually; Saving Mr. Banks; Much Ado About Nothing; Carrington; and acting and writing both Nanny McPhee movies. She talks with Susie Ferguson.

She has no problem murdering a woman and taking her place at a writer's retreat in beautiful Washington State. But she's controlled by a Seattle-based crime family that is spreading its tentacles across the Bellingham Bay, a perfect location for trafficking drugs and people across the Pacific Ocean. The book opens with the murder of a priest, who turns out to be the brother of the retreat's proprietor, and a gourmet cook. The lovely Pine and Quill offers several cabins, one for each writer, and enticing-sounding gourmet meals. The iconoclast is there to kill someone who might know too much, and it takes some time before Sean McPherson, a former cop, is pulled in. Can he save his fiancé and protect the other guests? Laurie Buchanan, who earned a PhD in Holistic Health with a emphasis in energy medicine from National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, writes the Sean McPherson novels— fast-paced thrillers set in the Pacific Northwest that feature a trifecta of malice and the pursuit and cost of justice. In this episode, we talk to a tech leader who initially had very little desire to become a CTO. However, once the journey began, not only was he a success, but he also came to appreciate and love the role. His passion shows and is a great inspiration to try things you think you don't want. Maksym Schipka, the CTO at Vortexa, shares his tech journey and what's worked, and is working for him. Just to put into perspective the importance of Vortexa's operation, it tracks more than $1.8 trillion of waterborne energy trades per year. That's a great deal of ka-chings! Their work and innovations disrupt the way the energy markets operate, creating visibility into the very opaque world of seaborne energy trading. His desire (and deeper purpose) to solve problems and face difficult challenges led Maksym to solve technical goals and even more complex ones like strategic and the dynamics of leading people. His desire to create elegant solutions in his leadership serves the business, the people, and his own leadership. The key takeaways from the conversation with Maksym are: • The amazing payoffs of taking small, uncomfortable steps --new realizations regarding what interests you and what doesn't, plus the willingness to face fear, risk and dislikes to make adventurous, inspired career choices. • How data and, machine learning are being used to disrupt the energy trading system – a disruption that serves and enhances the work of traders and the industry as a whole. • The power in a leader being willing to become redundant in many of the tech activities and business operations. When your teams need you less, you are succeeding immensely as a leader. This reminds me of the quote from Nanny McPhee, "When you need me, but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, I have to go.". • The importance of attachment and detachment in leadership, and how to allow teams and people to grow and expand their responsibility. Bridgerton is the latest Netflix original series produced by Grey's anatomy, Shonda Rhimes. This period drama is based on Julia Quinn's novels set in Regency London. Even if you haven't read the books or even like the idea of a love child of Nanny McPhee and a wedding decorator, the true stars of the series are the filming locations themselves, many of them in London. Hazel shares with you and little bit of the Regency London history from the places mentioned in Bridgerton, either in the books or the latest TV series. Don't worry. You don't have to be familiar with the work at all. Just sit back and let me take you back to Regency London. In this controversial segment, I talk about an attention-starved actress who is really mad that young guys won't date her (I'm not kidding, I am going to read you the article)! She makes a ridiculous insinuation, claiming that REAL WOMEN want movies about childbirth, not female action-stars! Equality IS NOT equality anymore, boy oh boy, what a backward world we live in! I felt like Ted Nugent could help us through life at the end of this one as we fight back against super-feminism and radical left-wing ideology. It was #Halloween over the weekend and although it wasn't as big of a holiday as we usually get because of the pandemic that did not stop people from dressing up at home and some celebs pulled out all the stops. Lizzo dressed up in multiple costumes. One of them being the fly that landed in Mike Pence's hair during the Vice Presidential debate and she also had a creative take on dressing up as a WAP by wearing a costume that looks like water and some cat ears - very creative. Lil Nas X was unrecognizable as Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd fully embraced the Nutty Professor, Céline Dion dressed up as Nanny McPhee, and #ShawnMendes and Camilla Cabello had a little less effort put into their costumes. Shawn went as himself but beat up - alright and Camilla was dressed as a Miami witch. While most people dressed up to celebrate Halloween at home, a bunch of them all decided to party together thanks to #KendallJenner. Kendall is turning 25 years old tomorrow and decided to celebrate over the weekend with a Halloween party with more than 100 people in attendance including people like Justin Bieber, The Weekend, Doja Cat and Jaden Smith.  Entertainment Tonight reported that all guests had a rapid COVID test done before they were allowed to enter the party but the fact that no one was wearing a mask or social distancing while they were celebrating together is not cool. Someone also shared a photo from the party saying there was a no social media rule. No one really listened to that rule including Kendall's sister Kylie Jenner who shared multiple videos on her story from the night just proving how how packed the party was. Fans have been celebrating Taylor Swift by sharing the hashtag #TaylorIsFree on Twitter after news came out that Taylor is now allowed to re-record her original music. Taylor Swift has been prevented from the rights to her own musical catalog after it was sold to Scooter Braun's company from Scott Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records as part of a $300 million deal.  Taylor was open with her fans about everything that was going on and expressed her sadness and disgust over the deal she said she had no control over. Taylor did explain at the time that she is able to re-record her old albums starting in November 2020. Taylor Swift also lent her music out to be used in a Biden-Harris 2020 Campaign Ad as she continues to endorse him for presidency. She allowed her song “Only The Young” from her Miss Americana Netflix documentary to be used in the ad that talks about issues such as the #MeToo movement, LGBTQ+ rights, racial injustice and the coronavirus pandemic. Now that Halloween is over, the Queen of Christmas has announced the holiday seasons has officially began, #MariahCarey that is. She shared a video on her social media of a man dressed in a halloween costume entering a room where she is surrounded by Christmas decorations announcing that it's time! Last year “All I Want For Christmas Is You” climbed back up on the Billboard Hot 100 reaching all the way to number one. Maisie Williams was raised by her single mother in Clutton, Sommerset. She was known as being a boisterous, energetic young girl that would prefer to run around and play with the boys, rather than get stuck doing conventionally girly things. She had a passion for dance and enrolled in Susan Hill’s School of Dance, where she was advised to take a trip to Paris to attend a talent show. She came away from this with a new agent and an audition for a role in Nanny McPhee 2. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. This almost held her back from auditioning for Game of Thrones, and eventually becoming Arya Stark.

And not just because she speaks openly about bonking Jeff Goldblum with a piece of toast stuck to her bum (onscreen). Some of you may have grown up with her in Nanny Mcphee, had your hearts broken by her in THAT SCENE in Love Actually, or fell in love with her in Sense and Sensibility, Howards End, Last Christmas, or.... the list goes on. Alongside her screen acting she is known for her outspokeness, her activism, and being a general all round excellent egg. She's the only person to have won Academy Awards for both acting and writing, it's DAME EMMA THOMPSON!We spoke to Emma about how to come back to our instincts when it comes to erotica and pleasure, the sex handbook she made her daughter, why it's important never to shame your sister if you catch her wanking, and the resistance against being squashed into shapes that society wants you to be. Her take on the subtle yet ferocious power of hormones quietly blew our minds.Emma's astute ability to understand human behaviour is astonishing, and at times she becomes our therapist fit to rival Esther Perel. We hope this conversation inspires you, gets your brain box buzzing, and helps you (just a little) to come back to what pleasure means to you.*We would love to continue the conversation and hear from you: email us at hello@thepleasurepodcast.com or tweet us @ThePleasurePod.Please do rate, review, and share the podcast, we hear it helps other people find us!*Social Media:Naomi Sheldon: @NaomiSheldon1Anand Patel: @therealdranandFollow us at @ThePleasurePod and visit us at www.thepleasurepodcast.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Show notes: http://bit.ly/237UsTR Two Week Catch-Up: Robert delves further into Reform Judaism & its differences from historical orthodoxy Darrell roots for his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels & enjoys the return of Psych, Castle, & Quantico Jermaine spends sixty hours on The Division & returns to Blizzard's Hearthstone - "it's a thinking game!" Nerdy News: Robert believes in "upholding rules" & proves yet again why democracy is for fools Darrell "encourages voting fraud" (when it comes to naming boats) & Jermaine sides with Trump on aversion towards a GOP brokered convention Darrell cheers Microsoft's decision to play nicely with others Jermaine's fantasy dream comes true now he finally gets his chance to dress up like Princess Leia Trailer Talk: Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children Jermaine: "I love Tim Burton! Or wait, I actually. . . . don't? I kinda wanna see it if the wife wants to see it? 3.5 stars" Robert: "Ugh, so torn. I'm still waiting for the next great 'kid-lit' franchise that's a smashing success & this most definitively, sadly, is not it. Also, that scary monster thing as the end looks straight outta Resident Evil - two stars" Darrell: "It feels like Spiderwick Chronicles, Nanny McPhee, & Silent Hill all mushed together - 3.5 stars" Ben Hur Jermaine: "Ah, the brother who's betrayed, returns, & horseback-rides his way back into the heart of the people! Four stars" Robert: "My dream. . . . Morgan Freeman one day recording my voicemail message. Also-- chariot battles. . . . it's about freaking time. . . . though I suspect this is the remake no one wants - 2.5 stars" Darrell: "Meh, I dunno the history - 2.5-3 stars?" Review - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Darrell: "Enjoyable movie but Mark Zuckerberg's like Lex Joker here-- miscast of the century. Batman's also supposed to be a super-genius! How does he not see Zuck's conspiracy from a million miles away?" Jermaine: "Why the hell is Batman haphazardly committing wanton murder left & right? Why-oh-why is Superman manipulated so easily? Good god, heaven almighty, this was HOT GARBAGE" Robert: "Whatever. When people try to kill you, you kill them back! An absolute cinematic masterpiece with profound philosophical heft. Batfleck's Bruce Wayne is the quintessential hero of our times, the eternally tortured soul asking the hard questions & doing what is necessary-- truly: a shining role model for us all. Also: CrossFit!" Recommendations: Jermaine punches his way to total & absolute victory with One-Punch Man Robert strongly feels that "by golly, this is how movies ought end!" Darrell mourns the passing of Phife Dawg & "celebrates the life he lived" with A Tribe Called Quest: The Love Movement Album Credits: Sound effects from FX Sounds "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"
