We tried really, really hard to keep this episode under 2 hours but there's just so much to talk about with this one as it's one of the most disappointing movies of the year. It's the next installment in the new Halloween franchise with the really dumb name: Halloween Kills. Saying we were excited for this movie is an understatement, and boy, were we left down. That being said, there's a lot to discuss - both good and bad - including Michael's master plan that rivals that of Silva from Skyfall, how much Tommy Doyle must love the Misfits, and our pitch for the Endgame level mashup between all of the past characters from the entire Halloween franchise. All of that and more with returning guest and casual Halloween sort-of fan JT Kelly.Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Thomas Mann, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, Charles Cyphers, Nick Castle, and James Jude Courtney. The night Dan & Mike came home...and reviewed the recently released 12th installment in the Halloween film franchise, Halloween Kills.  Directed by David Gordon Green, Halloween Kills picks up where Halloween (2018) ends with a whole new unique look back at John Carpenter's original Halloween (1978).  Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode along with Judy Greer and Andi Matichak.  The film also features Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle, and Halloween alumni Kyle Richards, Nancy Stephens, and Charles Cyphers.  Just as our show editor Emily slices and dices to make us look good, Michael Myers returns to the big screen in Halloween Kills to do some cutting of his own.For all things Oh Brother, visit their official website at https://ohbpodcast.com and don't forget to subscribe to the Oh Brother podcast on YouTube.Oh Brother theme music: Dave Diaz @RevdrumAudio production: Emily Viadero @emm_vidsCover Art: Andrea Benham https://www.prodcutionsbyandrea.comFind Oh Brother on social mediaInstagramTwitterFacebookOh Brother can be found on all major podcast platforms:Apple PodcastsSpotifyPandoraAmazon MusiciHeartRadioActress Karissa Lee Staples Cinematographer and Producer Johnny Derango

Precinct 13: The Movies and Music of John Carpenter

Michael Myers is back, and so are we -- it's time to close out another "season of the witch" with an episode about Halloween Kills, the long-awaited (by us, anyway) second entry in David Gordon Green and Danny McBride's sequel trilogy! After debuting to stellar box office numbers and some decidedly mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the new movie has left Chris and Nick with a lot to talk about, so pull that William Shatner mask over your face, grab your favorite piece of cutlery, and strap in for a mayhem-filled ride. Kills has what is likely the highest body count in the entire franchise, it brings back A LOT of supporting characters from Carpenter's 1978 original, and -- of course -- it treats us to another go-round of Jamie Lee Curtis in her most iconic role of Laurie Strode. There's even an extended flashback to 1978 that painstakingly recreates the look and feel of the FIRST night that Michael Myers came home. Is all of that enough to satisfy fans of the long-running franchise and, more importantly, of the film that put John Carpenter on the map? Your humble co-hosts break it down piece-by-piece, from the screenplay to the score to the bigger, badder, meaner tone that allows for brutality and bloodshed that might surprise even a hardened slasher fan. Does this film improve on the one that it (sort of) replaces in the series' continuity, Halloween II? Will fans enjoy the return of characters like Brackett and Tommy Doyle for a four-decades-later showdown with The Shape? And what, exactly, does this film have in common with Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ? All that and more on this very special Halloween episode! Incidentally, we keep the spoilers as limited as possible for most of the episode, but if you're wary of big-time spoiler content, then skip from 1:06:30 to 1:38:30, and you'll be all good! We've got a few last-minute spooky-season movie recommendations for you, too, of course, so enjoy this jam-packed episode, have a very happy Halloween, and don't forget: EVIL DIES TONIGHT!!!

On Episode 40 of The Terror Talks, we are discussing the newest installment in the Halloween Franchise, "Halloween Kills" In September of 2018, Miramax and Blumhouse Productions premiered the newest installment of the world-renowned "Halloween" franchise, created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. The film, to nobody's surprise, would be a COMPLETE SUCESS, grossing $255.6 at the box office. Because of this success, Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions remained true to his word of "we will do a sequel if the movie performs".  By October 2018 after the film's opening weekend, it was confirmed that a sequel was in the works with Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak reprising their roles.  This new film would also allow for the return of Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney as The Shape/Michael Myers, Will Patton as Deputy Hawkins, and Omar Dorsey as Sheriff Barker.  The film would also play host to some new talent with Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle, one of the survivors of the 1978 Halloween, Kyle Richards as Lindsay Wallace, another survivor of the 1978 Halloween, Nancy Stephens as Marion Chambers, the nurse who was attacked by Michael in 1978, and Charles Cyphers as Leigh Brackett, the sheriff from Halloween 1978 who lost his daughter Annie and played alongside Dr. Loomis, played by Donald Pleasance, for most of Halloween 1978.  The film would pick up right where the 2018 film left off with the Strode family escaping Michael Myers, but learning that he is still alive and hunting down the residents of Haddonfield. Now with the help of survivors of the original 1978 attacks and the townspeople, they fight to kill Michael Myers once and for all stating that "Evil Dies Tonight!"  Halloween Kills premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2021. The film was originally set to be theatrically released on October 16, 2020 but in July 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed to October 15, 2021. On September 9, 2021, it was announced that in addition to being released in theaters the film would also be streamed on paid tiers of Peacock for 60 days. A sequel entitled "Halloween Ends" is already in pre-production and planned to release on October 14th, 2022, and will take place at least 4 years later in the year 2022 and will address the Covid-19 Pandemic. Director, David Gordon Green, describes the film as a "coming of age story" and "a more intimate movie" where "some of the characters.... have processed the insanity of the circus of the massacre of 2018. And not only that, but they've also processed the world as it's spun so wildly in the last four years."  Be sure to go check out "Halloween Kills" at your local movie theatre today!!  Join us as we discuss the film, "Halloween Kills" Check Out Our Social Media! The first reaction to Halloween Kills, the sequel to 2018 Halloween, is "What the Hell happened?" The 2018 film felt like a fitting end for Michael Meyers and Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode. In that 2018 film, we watched Laurie take the fight to Michael and it was actually pretty enjoyable. Halloween Kills is a far cry from that film. It's so bad it leaves you wondering if the same crew that made the first film made this one. Surprisingly, the answer is "yes". David Gordon Greene is back as director as are the same writers (Scott Teams and Danny McBride). So what the hell happened? Why did this film fall so far off from what they originally did? The biggest thing that doesn't work for this film is that it sidelines the best thing about the first film. Jamie Lee Curtis was great in the first film. In this film she doesn't share a single scene with her nemesis Michael Meyers. She doesn't die, she's just not used in any scenes with him. That is a bit of a spoiler but after seeing the trailers and promotion for this film, it feels like false advertisement and needs to be called out. Instead of focusing on Strode the film decides to bring in a bunch of other characters from previous films or encounters with Meyers and turn them into a militia that goes after Meyers. While that seems like a plot point that could be interesting, it falls flat for a couple of reasons.  First, it feels forced. Anthony Michael Hall plays an adult Tommy Doyle. Tommy has an obsession with taking down Michael but he thinks he's going to do it with a handful of random folks with a baseball bat. Why on earth would Tommy think a baseball bat is going to stop Michael Meyers? It just feels like the film wanted to say "See, we're connecting it all back to the original series" but didn't care how or why or even if they should. The second issue is that the film seems like it's trying to make a larger commentary on mob mentality but it does a piss poor job at it.  On a positive (maybe the only one), the kills are gory. But they're also boring. Yes, Michael Meyers is a force of nature that is going too plow through people. But Halloween Kills feels like that was the only trick they had up their sleeve and it overplayed it. At some point it felt like watching an old school horror film where you're watching not because it's scary but because the characters are so dumb they deserve to die.  This film ends with the clear indication that they want to make another one. Halloween Kills - Movie Trailer Review

MTR Network Main Feed

But it really doesn't deserve to continue. Yet that's the history of the Halloween films and the curse of Michael Meyers. Even when they should die, they just pop back up and continue on. S P O I L E R     R E V I E W Michael Myers is back in Haddonfield and guess what he's doing? Well, the title kind of gives that away but beyond him, also returning is Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode along with Judy Greer as her daughter Karen – Laurie is still recovering from the brutal events of the previous film as this movie picks up literally RIGHT where that one left off.  As a result, several of the local townspeople are on the hunt for Myers as he continues his rampage of death throughout their small town – they're lead by Tommy Doyle played by Anthony Michael Hall, remember him??

Most fans enjoyed this film in its entirety, rightfully so. The casting level is at a higher tier, the setting feels more modern, and it gives off a fun vibe, at first. While the cast was great, the story felt a bit over the top. Michael at his core is a walking asthma demon who needs to kill his sister. Now, it's resided to him killing anyone who's remotely related. It's a surprise he doesn't go graverobbing to assure himself the dead ancestors are indeed dead. Jamie's departure in the beginning scene is yet another interesting plot choice. The casting choice to make her look 16 is a miss. Are these actresses getting bored with the story so much that they asked to be killed off? Or was this the original plan? I'm hoping for the first. This mid-season trilogy is more wishy-washy than my 5th-grade girlfriend who saw ol' jimmy shoot a 3 pointer and left my ass for him. The twists and gotchas were a little too expected when they didn't show anyone else for us to decide on. Cowboy man dude, obviously a tall older man who's intelligent and weird, Dr. Terrance. A cultist who's spying on the prey for their cult, obviously the old lady who sits in silence for all eternity and listens, Mrs. Blankenship. The list goes on. Luckily we get one last performance from the great Donald Pleasance before he departed from this world. The heart attack calms him down, but the crazy remains. Marianne Hagan stars as the new final girl in this slasher series with an overall great performance. This begs the question; Can we replace Laurie Strode? The Jamie Lee Curtis? The answer is an easy no if you drive the same storyline. This could have been a side story exploring a different kind of Michael Myers. Instead, because of money they mentioned and cameoed her throughout the entire series, the exception to Halloween III and not so much in this one. The best thing about this film was every scene with Paul Rudd's character, Tommy Doyle. It was great to give him a personality of him likely being in Kahoot's with the cult. He really gave that creep factor the movie needed. The knowledge he possesses about Michael and the Celtic curse showed true benefit for the group. It was like a budget Mystery gang with no dog, thank God. Key Points Why did Kara trust Tommy Doyle with Danny so fast? If Donald Pleasance was still alive, would they kill him off as they hinted? Why does Michael not use his teleportation powers in the most opportune times? Why does Michael not hunt Tommy Doyle before Kara and Danny? How did Tommy Not figure out Mrs. Blankenship's motives? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/drekculazunderworld/support

On this bonus Wednesday episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast Patrick Moran is joined by Anthony Marino of Buffalo Rumblings to talk several Buffalo Bills topics focused around NFL cut down day. The Bills didn't make any stunning cuts, but Reid Ferguson and Jacob Hollister were the most noteworthy, although it's reported Ferguson's release was merely procedural and quite possibly the same for Hollister.  Anthony discusses having at least mild surprise that Tommy Doyle made the roster while Patrick explains why he thinks Cam Lewis is the Bills cut most likely to end up claimed by another team. They also break the roster down positionally going forward.  Also, John Wawrow of the Associated Press had an eye-opening report about Pegula Sports & Entertainment's proposal for a 60,000 seat new stadium that would ready for play in 2027. It would become the smallest capacity stadium in the NFL in terms of fans and Anthony has plenty to say about it. They also discuss some of the notable moves around the league, including division rival New England moving on from quarterback Cam Netwon and why Patrick thinks Mac Jones is poised to have the most immediate success of this year's rookie quarterback class. All this and much more. The Buffalo Bills concluded their preseason schedule with a convincing 19-0 win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. There was plenty to like from the win, along with several areas where the Bills can improve, and on the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, hosts John Boccacino and Jamie D'Amico give you their thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't like after Buffalo went 3-0 this preseason. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Josh Allen was superb in his first action of the preseason, completing 20 of 26 passes for 194 yards with two touchdowns. Wide receivers Gabriel Davis, Emmanuel Sanders, and Cole Beasley contributed to Buffalo's prolific passing display. Head coach Sean McDermott was creative with the play-calling and used the finale as a tune-up for the regular season, practicing different game scenarios. Running back Matt Breida was effective both as a pass catcher spread out wide and running the football. Cornerback Siran Neal rebounded nicely from two sub-par performances to deliver a lights-out performance. Defensive end A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackles Justin Zimmer and Ed Oliver enjoyed productive afternoons winning their matchups against the offensive line. Linebackers A.J. Klein and Andre Smith were all over the field. The Bills excelled on red zone defense, goal line defense, and fourth down defense. The crowd made noise for most of the afternoon and forced Green Bay's offense into a delay of game penalty. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Cornerback Cam Lewis' poor play cannot inspire confidence in the Bills secondary depth behind starters Tre'Davious White and Levi Wallace. Offensive lineman Bobby Hart's struggles continued while fellow offensive lineman Tommy Doyle might be a year away from contributing. The run defense allowed more than 4.2 yards per carry, and the defense in general gave up large plays between the 20s. Among the players who made a favorable impression on our podcasters: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who effectively ran Brian Daboll's offense, guiding the Bills to touchdowns on their first four possessions while completing 20 of 28 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Rookie edge rusher Greg Rousseau, who came up with a sack and three quarterback hurries on just nine snaps. Fellow defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Carlos "Boogie" Basham Jr., who helped Buffalo's pass rush generate four sacks and 12 QB hits while causing chaos in the backfield. Running backs Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, who averaged 7.0 yards per carry in rushing for 42 yards on six carries. Singletary eluded the defense and broke off a 14-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-one, while Moss nearly scored on a nifty 11-yard scamper. Wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie, who rebounded from an early muff of a punt to catch seven passes for 72 yards. Tackle Spencer Brown, who played well at both left and right tackle and held his own going up against Khalil Mack. Wide receiver/returner Marquez Stevenson, who broke off an electrifying 79-yard punt return for a TD. Tight end Jacob Hollister, who might be pushing Dawson Knox for the TE1 role. Safety Damar Hamlin and cornerbacks Rachad Wildgoose and Nick McCloud. Those whose performances were less than stellar included: Tackle Bobby Hart, whose poor play along the offensive line could get one of Buffalo's quarterbacks hurt. Tight end Dawson Knox, who continues to struggle with drops and consistency. Quarterbacks Davis Webb and Jake Fromm, who failed to build upon a successful preseason opener. Cornerback Siran Neal, who was badly beaten on a long touchdown pass before halftime. Apologies if I sound like a broken record here folks, but I've got to say it again: we are so close to football! We are just under three weeks away from the first MAC games of the season, and let me tell you, we are excited here at the Bandwagon. Kicking off this weeks' show, Zach and Steve discuss the recent contract extension for Kent State head football coach Sean Lewis. Lewis has done incredible work in three years at Kent, and the Golden Flashes are primed to compete for the MAC championship this fall. The new contract runs through 2025, and includes an increased buyout should a larger program come calling. This is certainly well deserved - this was a program in a bad place when Lewis was hired in December of 2017, and he has completely turned the Golden Flashes around. Moving into our season previews, the boys first take a look at the Toledo Rockets. After a few disappointing seasons (by Toledo standards, at least) the Rockets return more production than any team in the country, and are primed to challenge for the west division crown. Carter Bradley steps in at QB, and he is surrounded by a great cast of skill position players and a veteran offensive line. There are not many question marks on this offense. Defensively, everyone of significance is back. This could be Jason Candle's most talented team in his six years as head coach. Will the Rockets be able to get back to Ford Field this year? Only time will tell. Next up, we take a look at a team that seems to be getting overlooked a bit in the presason: the Miami RedHawks. After 2019's surprising MAC championship, Miami was only able to complete three games last year due to the pandemic. Because of that, this feels like a team that we don't know a ton about. Brett Gabbert is back at QB after only playing in two games last year, and some tend to forget that he was the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2019. The RedHawks also get running back's Jalyon Bester and Tyre Shelton back, both of whom missed last season. The offensive line has to replace Tommy Doyle and Danny Godlevske, but there is still a lot of talent on this team. If the offensive line can develop, and the defense can improve against the pass, this could be a dark horse contender in the eastern division. As always, thanks for stopping by this week folks. We'll see you back here next week, and before you know it we'll have actual football games to discuss! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For tons of NFL hopefuls, this is the biggest week of the year. College football players from across the country will watch this weekends NFL draft, hoping to get their name called. Players from the MAC are no exception! On this weeks' pod, Zach and Sam break down the possibilities for the top 10 MAC prospects in this years draft class. Before we get to the draft, the boys kicked off this weeks show with a recap of this past weeks' MAC news. First up is Ohio PG Jason Preston declaring for the NBA draft, while also maintaining his college eligibility. He'll have until July 19 to decide if he's entering the draft or returning for his senior year. Elsewhere in hoops, Central Michigan officially announced Tony Barbee as their next head basketball coach. The boys give their thoughts. Believe it or not, there were a trio of MAC champions crowned this past weekend. The Ball State women's tennis team captured the MAC championship while winning their 21st game in a row, while Western Michigan captured their 26th MAC crown on the men's side of the tennis competition. With all due respect to both of those programs, neither can hold a candle to the Kent State women's golf team, who captured their 22nd consecutive conference championship. That is an unprecedented streak, and one that we won't see replicated for a very long time. Congrats to the Golden Flashes! Moving into our draft coverage, the boys break down the top MAC prospects and where they might land. Who will be the first MAC player off the board? Who will have the biggest immediate impact? The boys answer these questions and more. While doing so, Zach and Sam discuss the top 10 MAC prospects in the class of 2021. Guys like Jarret Patterson and Dwayne Eskridge have gotten a lot of press, but what about Isaiah McKoy? Tommy Doyle? Malcom Koonce? These are all guys that have the ability to make an impact if drafted into the right situation. Thanks for stopping by this week folks.
