The Spin Chagrin, a concept that finds Frank having to watch a movie he's never seen before based on the random spin of a wheel filled with off-the-wall genres, continues into its fourth year. All the categories are quotables from Frank himself. In this episode, Frank's category was "Goonie Jedi." For this, he watched and reviewed the 2001 fantasy film, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, starring Robert Davi and Kelly LeBrock. They also discuss Karate Kid: Legends and 28 Years Later.

This week on THE BIG 4-0, Ron and Peter celebrate 40 years since Pee-Wee Herman went on his BIG ADVENTURE to retrieve his beloved stolen bicycle, vampire Chris Sarandon has to deal with his nosey teenage neighbor in FRIGHT NIGHT, and Anthony Michael Hall and some other guy create smokin' Kelly LeBrock in using WEIRD SCIENCE. Oh, and Peter has yet another new opening theme for you all to enjoy! He's like Prince with the musical ideas just pouring out him... Please remember to Rate, Like, and Subscribe, and you'd be a REAL GENIUS to VOLUNTEER to come back next week for the RETURN OF your favorite podcast (and THE LIVING DEAD).
“So, what do you little maniacs want to do first?” As embodied by Kelly LeBrock, Lisa was full of questions, answers, and (for unknown reasons) a variety of witchy powers in the 1985 classic, Weird Science. Written and directed by John Hughes, the movie was a perverted teenage geek's dream: building a woman to spec, controlling her, and using her to gain popularity among the cool kids. But now, nearly 40 years later, what in the name of Gloria Steinem is going on here? Is there any joy to be had in this Anthony Michael Hall of horrors? And just how convincing is Robert Downey Jr as a bully? The Old Roommates float an air biscuit and give it all a revisit through their middle-aged lens. Join them before their parents get home.Old Roommates can be reached via email at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. Round 2 of Movie Matchup March is here, and this time, it's a battle of Leslie Nielsen comedies! First up: Spy Hard, a James Bond parody—though if you asked this crew to define “parody,” you'd be in for a very long night. Then, it's Wrongfully Accused, a Fugitive spoof that throws subtlety out the window… and then crashes through that window on a runaway train. To help dissect the chaos, Troy and Brad are dragging their good pal Nate back into the madness for his expert opinions on slapstick and spoofs. Will this episode turn into another round of Breaking Brad? And does Leslie Nielsen's comedy still hold up in 2025, or has the world moved on from guys getting hit in the face with frying pans? Download now and find out!Spy Hard is directed by Rick Friedberg and stars Leslie Nielsen, Nicollette Sheridan, Charles Durning, Marcia Gay Harden, Barry Bostwick, and Andy GriffithWrongfully Accused is directed Pat Proft and stars Leslie Nielsen, Richard Crenna, Kelly LeBrock, Sandra Bernhard, Michael York, and Melinda McGrawNot A Bomb has has plenty of spooky designs in our Merch store! This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Anthony back on as we discuss the 1985 comedy Weird Science. In this Hughes-iverse classic, nerdy teens build a lady with a computer that wouldn't even be powerful enough to post this podcast these days. Kelly LeBrock is the lady, and she is going to show these nerd how to have a good time, or maybe get them killed trying. Bill Paxton is the jerk off older brother and RDJ plays the jerk off classmate of our hero nerds. What's the worst pain there is? Do you think Chet's grandparents are having a good time being catatonic in a closet? Who is this Gary character? This movie will anwer all these questions and more. Enjoy the podcast!!
In this episode of Born to Watch, we take a wild ride back to 1985 for a Weird Science (1985) Review, where two geeky teens somehow manage to create the perfect woman with a little help from a computer, some questionable science, and a whole lot of 80s magic. But does this John Hughes cult classic still hold up today, or is it a relic best left in the past? Whitey, G Man, and Damo break it all down—the absurd plot, the unforgettable performances, and the film's impact on pop culture. From Oingo Boingo's legendary theme song to the iconic Kelly LeBrock taking nerd wish-fulfillment to a whole new level, Weird Science is packed with classic 80s energy. But how does it fare when viewed through a modern lens? We debate the film's over-the-top humor, its place in the John Hughes cinematic universe, and whether it's truly a teenage fantasy or just plain ridiculous. And speaking of ridiculous—how about that scene-stealing performance from Bill Paxton as Chet? He might just be one of cinema's most unforgettable older brothers. And here's a question for the real movie buffs: Did Mad Max 2 inspire Weird Science? With Vernon Wells reprising a very familiar role, it's hard to ignore the similarities. We dig into the connections between the two films and how a Mad Max villain somehow ended up in this teenage comedy.Of course, it wouldn't be Born to Watch without some heated debates. Are Ian and Max the worst dweeb bullies in movie history? Did this film get overlooked in a stacked year of 80s cinema? And what was up with Gary's infamous bar scene—comedic genius or a joke that went on way too long?We also bring back the fan-favorite Hit Sleeper Dud segment, uncovering forgotten 1985 gems and taking a closer look at No Retreat, No Surrender, Fortress, and the bizarre misfire that was Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Plus, we read some hilarious listener comments and break down why one fan thinks our Fight Club episode might just be the Dune: Part Two of our podcast. And don't miss the return of Whitey's Kick Arse Credit Theme Song, only a quality jingle could make Gow's song this week better.
This week, Rachel Feinstein takes a seat in The Wayback! (Check out her special "Big Guy" on Netflix). In this episode, Rachel and Ryan both get nostalgic about growing up in Maryland in the 1980s. Rachel reminisces about long car trips in her parents Datsun station wagon "barfmobile," summer vacations in Ocean City and Rehoboth, and always wanting to look like Tawny Kitaen and Kelly LeBrock. Rachel also goes in depth about her weird family, spearheaded by her dad who refused to wash anything denim and still uses his Walkman to this day! Then Rachel and Ryan trade stories about trips to Hershey Park in Central Pennsylvania, where Ryan rode the Sooper Dooper Looper, and Rachel's dad got taken away in an ambulance after trying to "hurl" her brother. Dorian Price, Mik Wanamaker, Sean Comer and Mark Radulich review movies currently on streaming services and in theaters: Blame It on Rio/LOL/The Woman in Red Movie Review! First up is Blame It on Rio (1984). Then we move on to LOL (2012). Finally we review The Woman in Red (1984).Blame It on Rio is a 1984 American romantic comedy film directed by Stanley Donen and written by Charlie Peters and Larry Gelbart based on the 1977 French film Un moment d'égarement, starring an ensemble cast, including Michael Caine, Joseph Bologna, Michelle Johnson, Valerie Harper, Demi Moore, and José Lewgoy.LOL is a 2012 American teen romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Lisa Azuelos. A remake of the 2008 French film of its title (also directed by Azuelos), the film stars Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore, Ashley Greene, and Adam Sevani. The film received a limited release in the United States on May 4, 2012, by Lionsgate, which handicapped it after being reeled back from a broader release, and had an overall negative critical reception. Thus, the film missed its budget by box office gross by only $500,000.The Woman in Red is a 1984 American romantic comedy film directed by and starring Gene Wilder. Wilder also wrote the script, adapting it from the Yves Robert film Pardon Mon Affaire (Sorry My Affair) (Un éléphant ça trompe énormément (An Elephant Can Be Extremely Deceptive)). It co-stars Charles Grodin, Gilda Radner, Joseph Bologna, Judith Ivey, and Kelly LeBrock. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "I Just Called to Say I Love You", written and performed by Stevie Wonder. The film follows a married man who becomes infatuated with another woman and his amusingly unsuccessful attempts to first meet and then become intimate with her.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
On this special episode of THE BIG 4-0, Ron and Peter look back at the first SEVEN films from one of our childhood action heroes, Steven Seagal. ABOVE THE LAW (1988), HARD TO KILL (1990), MARKED FOR DEATH (1990), OUT FOR JUSTICE (1991), UNDER SIEGE (1992), his directorial debut ON DEADLY GROUND (1994), and his only theatrical sequel and arguably the end of his run as a major box office draw, UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY (1995). That's a lot of films and a lot of ground to cover, so apologies if we didn't do each film or his entire career justice. There are a lot of interesting discussion points left on the table, many touched on, but not fully explored - such as a deeper dive into his past and wild background claims (CIA and/or mob ties?), excellent/interesting supporting cast members we mention but don't trace the arc of their careers as we normally would (Sharron Stone, Pam Grier, Kelly LeBrock, William Forsythe, Jerry Orbach, Tommy lee Jones, Gary Busy, Erika Eleniak, Michael Cain, John C. McGinley, Joan Chen, Billy Bob Thornton, Eric Bogosian, Evert McGill, Morris Chestnut, and Kathrine Heigel, among others), how he always uses a .45 pistol the way Riggs and McClane always use a Baretta, his badass Bronco in MARKED FOR DEATH, the fact that he looks great - damn near hunky - at 40, no less, in UNDER SIEGE, Bassil Poledouris' awesome ON DEADLY GROUND score, and Seagal's music career (two actually-not-bad blues albums!), post-theatrical-direct-to-DVD period, TV career (A&E's LAWMAN), his fashion, political beliefs, and his legal troubles, both as an accused sexual predator and a falling-out with his producing partner Julius Nasso, which led to a real-life Seagal/mob altercation - but as a focus on just these seven films, how they've aged, and where we each rank them in his filmography, it's an in-depth, fun, and revelatory episode. Please remember to Rate, Like, and Subscribe, and we'll be back in 1984 next time to burn down the house celebrating STOP MAKING SENSE and PARIS, TEXAS's BIG 4-0s!
“I'm scanning pornography into the computer to make a lady!” - Eric as George W. Bush On this week's show, we're chatting about the 1985 John Hughes-directed, sci-fi sex comedy, Weird Science! How strange is it that back in the day, these creep-tacular incels were just considered harmless, lovable nerds? Why would they cut out all the solid Bride of Frankenstein conversation from the theatrical cut? Has there been a better titular song in cinema? Is this weird science, or weird computer magic? How cool is all the reversed footage at the end? And are those grandparents dead or what? PLUS: Christopher Nolan - huge Weird Science fan? Weird Science stars Anthony Michael Hall, Kelly LeBrock, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Suzanne Snyder, Judie Aronson, Robert Downey Jr., Robert Rusler, Vernon Wells, Britt Leach, Michael Berryman, and the late, great Bill Paxton as Chet; directed by John Hughes. Hi everybody and welcome to Buzl Morshrum. It's Monday so it's time once again for the best podcast on the internet. This week we have Steven Seagal back in the hot seat for his weekly roast and factoid corner - hope you brought your briefcase with fifty grand! Hear about the grand escapades of being a family ruining, fake cop, fake martial artist and real candidate for the dickhole. The BM studio has recently undergone a massive (and expensive) upgrade and is still in somewhat of a disarray, Jenn and Katie have a Medical Corner update that involves the fingers of strangers, we read a viewer email regarding Luke's car trouble question (and how to get rid of the demon gremlins that inhabit it), we have a few newer viewers to shouts out to (one of Luke's regulars and Katie's therapist) and then Steven whisks us off to game time! It's Mother's Day and this week we're gonna celebrate our mothers by judging MILFS (just kidding!) Edward is gonna list off some Moms and we're gonna name their offspring… or try to in some cases… when the hamster falls off the wheel. We learn that Mountbatten is one of the names, Michael Landon is not Laura Ingalls Wilder's son, Madonna looks like an inflamed butthole, Kelly LeBrock was the Weird Science broad and vagina scented candles exist. Don't forget to remember to follow the show on Instagram @bubbmush and shoot us an email at bubbmush@gmail.com. Tell a friend to check us out so we get more like buttons smashed and go rizz up some moms. Bussin!

In episode 22, Johnny talks to music supervisor, movie producer and music manager Tarquin Gotch. Tarquin's career saw him rise to Head of A&R at Arista Records in the 1980s - overseeing acts like The Thompson Twins, Simple Minds, The Stray Cats, and The Beat. He then moved to Warners, transitioning Prince, Madonna and many other American acts into the UK. Moving into music management he oversaw The Beat, Stephen Duffy, The Dream Academy, Hugh Harris, General Public, XTC, Roger McGuinn from the Byrds and Jon Lord from Deep Purple. In a chance encounter in 1984, through his actress and model friend Kelly LeBrock, Tarquin met writer-director John Hughes on the set of Weird Science. He went on to become music supervisor on the John Hughes films Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind of Wonderful, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, She's Having A Baby, The Great Outdoors and Uncle Buck. Running John Hughes' film company in the 1990s, Tarquin executive produced the films Curly Sue, Dutch, Only The Lonely, and Home Alone. He has since produced both film and TV including the 1998 film Still Crazy, the TV series Crocodile Shoes with Jimmy Nail, the documentary series Cars That Rock with Brian Johnson, and the return of prison sitcom Porridge for the BBC. Tarquin currently manages Brian Johnson of AC/DC, and founding members of the Police, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. Johnny's talk with Tarquin covers his work curating Life Moves Pretty Fast, a boxset celebrating the music of John Hughes soundtracks, released on Demon Records in 2022. They discuss Tarquin's time working alongside John Hughes and John Candy, his process of putting songs in front of John Hughes for consideration, and which composer he believes revolutionised the art of film scoring. This conversation was recorded online at the beginning of February 2024. Thanks to James Van As who wrote and performed the brilliant music (check out James' Loco Looper game) and to Willow Van As who designed the amazing artwork and provided general podcast support. It's here. The month you have been waiting for. That's right. It's finally time for DEAD DUCK MONTH! YAY! After promising a special ‘plot keyword' month for many years, we finally deliver by going with the most obscure plot keyword we talked about on our recaps in our history and deliver you a month of movies featuring dead ducks, starting with the 1985 movie that is Weird Science! Why does one host love this movie and the other doesn't? Can you tell that John Hughes wrote this movie in just two days? How amazing is Kelly LeBrock in this movie and why didn't she become a bigger thing? What do we think of the song in this movie? Are we glad to see Bill Paxton in another movie? Why are the grandparents the best characters? And what do we think of the dead duck scene? There's a lot to digest and get a bit weird over so click in and listen away! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
A kind of mea culpa to David Fincher and Christopher Nolan, the classiness of Peter Cushing, Kelly LeBrock calling me, how not to hold a girl's hand, the amazing and dearly departed Steve James, Vincent D'Onofrio liking me, and Vincent Gallo breaking up a relationship of mine (ok maybe it wasn't a relationship). Stuff mentioned: Fight Club (1999), Panic Room (2002), Star Wars (1977), Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Three's Company (1977-1984), Sling Blade (1996), Blame it on Rio (1984), Singin' in the Rain (1952), Charade (1963), Hill Street Blues (1981-1987), St. Elsewhere (1982-1988), Midnight Run (1988), Tron (1982), Voyagers! We're back to school and already we want to drop out, thanks to what might be John Hughes' worst movie, an obnoxious take on Pygmalian that had us begging for Bill Paxton's Chet to come back to the movie early and bully these horrible little nerds. A film with only one redeeming value--a pretty great theme song. Starring Anthony Michael Hall, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Kelly LeBrock, Bill Paxton, and Robert Downey Jr. Written and directed by John Hughes.

As we cross the halfway point in our ten-part exploration of the 1980s, we're randomly recasting the movies of 1985, and hopefully making them weirder. We might extract Chevy Chase from Fletch, for example, and drop him into the Kelly LeBrock role in Weird Science. That would free up Kelly to star in Rambo: First Blood Part II, Stallone can replace Cher as the mom in Mask, and so on. Chances of this being a huge disaster: excellent. If you've ever wondered why we don't run Hollywood, this episode may provide some answers. Also: We're watching unsettling 1985 Pizza Hut commercials, and Kornflake is a secret Rush fan. Rita and Martin getting weird about pizza... And our regular links... The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! The Flopcast on Facebook! The Flopcast on Instagram! The Flopcast on Mastadon! March is still going to the dogs and in this week's movie we have the most exceptional doggy star! We are covering As Good As It Gets which stars Jack Nicholson as Melvin and unpleasant, obsessive, curmudgeon who insists on making everyone's life miserable except for Carol, played by Helen Hunt, his crush who also happens to wait tables at the diner he frequents. Also thrown into the mix are a gay neighbor, a 'take no shit' art dealer and a cute dog named Verdell, played by Jill the Dog. In this episode: we explore how we feel about forehead licks (based on our stance around forehead kisses, not good), Corinne explains the multiple uses you can get from the Indigo Girls music catalogue (aka lady bait), and Tamara undercharges for her services as a freelance detective. We wouldn't trade this episode for all the noodle salad in the world but we will ask is this As Good As It Gets? Yes, yes it is.

‘Weird Science'… an 1985 movie (remember Kelly LeBrock?) and also and accurate title for this chat. Patrick and Tor are back and this time we talk about the mental, emotional and social consequences of people staring at phones (and ignoring the people around them) in social situations, the potential role of artificial intelligence in hair regeneration, faecal transplants (poo therapy, of sorts), a new male contraceptive (ouch), a new technique for same sex conception for men, technology that lets us ‘speak' to our dead relatives (kind of), a system that allows users to communicate with others remotely while embodying a humanoid robot (I was confused too), headlights that see around corners and mind-reading AI. Enjoy.EnterWrite to Tiffanee Cook See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My guest today and I met in the main restaurant of Club Med Playa Blanca during the 1996/1997 winter season. I was a Landsports G.O and he was a G.M. His first season was as an au pair in Club Med Playa Blanca in May of 1992 as a Landsports G.O. From Orange County, California, please help me welcome to My First Season, Stan Bruckheim!! Before Club Med, proud Army brat Stan actually lived in France the first six years of his life and then spent three years in Berlin. His teenage years were spent in Philadelphia and he went to college at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and obtained a Political Science degree. After graduation he went to work in Washington, D.C., but his employer sent him West to open their California office. Stan's first experience with Club Med was as a G.M. in Martinique in 1988. While Stan was a G.M. at Playa in '92, the CDV Gregg Snyder made an offer to Stan to come back as an au pair. Stan, who was a Media Director for an Ad agency, then went to his employer to ask for a one-year leave of absence. Not only did his employer grant his request, but they also told him his job would be held for him that entire year. After Playa, Stan then drove his red, Mazda RX-7 from California to Florida (in just four days) and went to Club Med Sandpiper during the Fall of 1992 as Landsports. He then went to Club Med Cancun in the Spring of 1993 as Public Relations and finished his Club Med career in Turks & Caicos in October of 1995. If you were a G.O. in the 1990's, then you will remember the group “Carnage” that used to come to Club Med. Stan founded this group, but surprisingly, Carnage was not started at Club Med, as you will hear in this interview. When the conversation turns to Stan's season in Cancun in ‘93, we cover what the picnic sign-up was like, the night he had dinner with Steven Seagal and Kelly LeBrock and when Playboy came for the week. Stan's regular job is Advertising in Latin America & Latino Media Services, but he is also the proprietor of “Kids Rule Sports”, a quality sports cards and memorabilia store (see link below) that is his passion. **My First Season podcast has always been free to listen to and is available on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Hard to kill movie review from 1990 starring Steven Segal,Kelly LeBrock, William Sadler and more! One of most uninspiring rehabs of all time; Judd's favorite Segal film; Is his character a really man of faith?; Why is he so obsessed with the Oscars?
The Ringer's Bill Simmons and Kyle Brandt are taking you to the bank … the blood bank! They collect their superior attitudes and superior minds to revisit 1990's ‘Hard to Kill,' starring Steven Seagal, Kelly LeBrock, and William Sadler. In our debut episode hosts Scott Murphy and Kyle Hintz take a look back on 1990's "Hard to Kill". Listen as our hosts are baffled by Seagal's coma facial hair, Kelly LeBrock's overly familiar bedside manner and the world's quickest coma recovery (must be down to having a "superior attitude, superior state of mind." Plus, we get into Seagal unsuitability for on-screen romance, how he gets one of his funniest one-liners here and the disappointing lack of Sadler in this effort. Oh yeah, we also demand justice for O'Malley! Poor guy raises Mason Storm's son for seven years and doesn't even get a funeral. Outrageous! "All '90s Action, All The Time" is produced by Scott Murphy, Kyle Hintz and Craig Draheim. Music by Elyssa Vulpes. Editing by Scott Murphy.
