Mental health isn't just mental illness, it's in everything we do, how we interact with one another, face adversity, and take risks. The Life's a Wreck podcast is a breath of fresh air in the world of mental health podcasts. As someone who also struggles with their own mental health, it is incredibly refreshing to see another man breaking down the stigma and having tough conversations about this important topic. Kyle, the host of the podcast, brings a valuable voice to the unrepresented world of male mental health.
What sets this podcast apart is that it isn't just relatable for guys. Kyle tackles topics that many listeners can relate to, regardless of gender. The episodes are both engaging and thought-provoking, with content presented in a user-friendly and conversational way. He dives into important topics such as confidence, therapy, addiction, masculinity, OCD and anxiety, maintaining a healthy life balance, careers, medications, love, and even explores the stigma of talking about mental health on a college campus. Each episode offers something new and insightful.
One of the best aspects of The Life's a Wreck podcast is Kyle's ability to make difficult conversations feel approachable. Mental health can be an intimidating subject for many people to discuss openly; however, Kyle creates an environment where listeners feel comfortable and safe to engage with these topics. His authenticity shines through in each episode as he shares his personal experiences and vulnerabilities. This vulnerability helps listeners connect on a deeper level and provides reassurance that they are not alone in their struggles.
Furthermore, the variety of topics covered in this podcast is truly commendable. From discussing common mental health conditions like anxiety and OCD to exploring societal pressures related to masculinity and career success, Kyle addresses it all. This diversity ensures that there is something for everyone in each episode.
However, no podcast is without its flaws. One aspect that could potentially be improved upon is the frequency of new episodes. Although quality should always take precedence over quantity when it comes to creating content as sensitive as mental health discussions, more frequent releases would allow listeners to engage with the content more consistently and offer greater support over time.
In conclusion, The Life's a Wreck podcast is a valuable addition to anyone's podcast listening schedule who is interested in talking about what many people are too afraid to discuss openly. Kyle's relatable approach, combined with his willingness to tackle a wide range of topics, make this podcast a worthy listen. Whether you are struggling with your own mental health or simply want to gain a deeper understanding of the subject, The Life's a Wreck podcast offers meaningful conversations that have the power to inspire and educate.

What does it mean to be a hero? This week on the podcast we answer that question. I'm thrilled to be joined by Canadian Paralympic sledge hockey athlete Kevin Rempel to discuss the mindset that has helped him overcome unthinkable odds. A living testament to the power of the mind and positive thinking, Kevin was once told he would never walk again following a motocross accident in his early 20s. Around the same time, Kevin also lost his father to suicide. During our conversation, Kevin reveals how he overcame suicidal ideation of his own and not only set himself on a more positive path but one that led to him regaining the ability to walk and representing Canada on the world's stage at the 2014 Sochi Paralympics. This one might be hard to believe...but finances...can affect your mental health. A true shock to almost no one. A life lesson I think is applicable here is that it's easy to fear something you don't understand. Enter one of Canada's leading personal finance experts, podcast and author Jessica Moorhouse. For years of my life, I thought the standard was perfection. Everything I did, I felt I had to do perfectly. I craved to be the perfect son, boyfriend, student, and athlete, I wanted to be flawless and when a flaw presented itself I resented it. I thought perfection would lead to fulfillment. Sound familiar? Well, colour me fuc*ing pink when I one day woke up and came to the realization that PERFECTION ISN'T REAL and that the search for "perfect" had only ever left me in shambles. Perfectionism is one of the most misrepresented and misunderstood personality traits and goddamnit that stops today. Very cool episode this week. Today I sit down with a true one of one in the podcasting world, Jeremie Saunders from CBC's Sickboy podcast, to explore his experiences as a man living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Jeremie shares how he learned of his diagnosis as a child and how it shaped his views on life after learning that he'd be unlikely to see his 35th birthday. He explores the nuances of living life faced with his mortality through the lens of mental health and provides an authentic look into the highs and lows associated with his disease and the subsequent release of a life-saving drug in Trikafta.Check out SickBoy on Apple PodcastFollow Jeremie on InstagramCheck out CF Canada's Podcast BreathlessFollow Life's a Wreck on InstagramFollow Kyle on InstagramPlease explore local mental health resources. Alas it was a very somber day in Halifax Nova Scotia, grey and gloomy. I sat in my expiring office chair the faux leather flaking onto the floor. I had just finished my interview with Booby Temps, a brilliant flourish of a man, the second hosts of Dating Games and my old friend. I had interviewed his cohost Stephanie Foster earlier in the week and now as I stared at the white "this Zoom has ended" screen, frozen in my mental wreckage trying to grapple with how I would edit this podcast I sat back, my chair's old bones creaking and I thought.....Wait a goddamn second is it really all just a GAME?!Listen to Dating Games NowFollow Life's a Wreck on InstagramFollow Kyle on InstagramPlease explore local mental health resources. Authenticity, what a can of worms. A beautiful gift of self acceptance, an appreciation of the wreck that you are and something that we for some reason forgo in the face of formality. Since working for a startup accelerator I've been privy to an entrepreneurial mindset of needing to build at the sake of authenticity. Be what you think an employer or partner wants you to be, hide your personality for the sake of your venture, "I aM a BuSInESS pErSoN." The examples go on and on and what I find so funny is that the advice from some of the most successful people I know contradicts the need to hide your authentic self. Building through authenticity is a way to avoid burnout, incorporate more fun into your day-to-day, and avoid creating something that doesn't serve your purpose. Our guest today is a fantastic example of this. When I mention "health," what comes to mind? The terms "physical health" or "mental health" ( I mean, you're listening to a mental health podcast, so I can imagine that one might pop up quite quickly) hitting the gym, eating well, doctors? Great words, but I'm curious: did the terms "social, connections or relationships" cross your mind? Often overlooked, studies have shown time and again that one of the most important overall contributors to general wellness, regardless of nationality, background and lifestyle, is the quality of the relationships in our lives. We take care of our physical health and our mental health, but so many of us don't think twice about our social health. That's something today's guest is trying to change. Founder of the GenWell Project, Canada's human connection movement, Pete Bombaci, joins me today to talk about the importance of connecting as a means to maintain and elevate our sense of wellness. What do you get when you bring together two men from the Maritimes, who both create wellness content, have competed on Big Brother and are interested in the potential power of magic mushrooms? You get on hell of an episode. Today we dive into the murky waters of one of the most common phrases in the wellness vernacular: Resiliency. We often talk about being resilient, but what do we really mean? Is resiliency to be unfeeling? Does it mean never giving up? Are resiliency and anti-fragility the same thing? What does it look like in the context of teams and organizations? How can I be more resilient? All of the many nuances of the word are explored by the team at MindFrame Connect and their Co-Founder, today's guest, Brice Scheschuk. Entrepreneur, business leader, public speaker and former Maritime Surface Officer in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, Brice has dedicated countless hours to teaching entrepreneurs across the country how they can build resiliency, and today, he's joining the wreck.Learn more about MindFrame Connect:https://www.mindframeconnect.com/Connect with Brice on LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/brice-scheschuk-cpa-ca-095721a/?originalSubdomain=caCheck out our Patreon for an exclusive extended interview:patreon.com/lifesawreckpodcastFollow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IGSupport the show
That idea of "putting on a mask" to hide your pain is something so many of us are familiar with, but when your job requires you to stand in front of a camera and perform at your best day in and day out, that term takes on a whole new meaning. I'm really excited to share this conversation with all of you today. Today's guest, CTV's Ana Almeida, and I met on a Movember walk back in 2021, and after hearing about her experiences as a person living with Anxiety and how she's used her platform to diminish the stigma that still surrounds mental illness, I knew it was only a matter of time until we got an episode out together. Well, two years later, the time is NOW! During our chat, Ana talks about her relationship with herself and reflected on the impact that Anxiety and her mental health have had on her relationships with friends, family and partners. We talked about how she shared openly about her mental health struggles live on air during Bell Let's Talk Day in 2017 and the amazing impact she saw from the communities she serves after she did so. During a part of the show that will always stand out as being a particularly special moment to have shared, Ana, who immigrated as a youth, talks about her close relationship with her father and how she navigated learning about his cancer diagnosis during a very difficult time in her life. This episode is funny, authentic, and vulnerable; it's everything you'd want from an episode of Life's a Wreck.Check out our ➡️Patreon⬅️Follow Ana:@ana_almedia - IG@anaalmeidaCTV - Twitter Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IGSupport the show
I imagine this episode to be best enjoyed while on a long walk, drive or curled up with a warm beverage. Today's conversation is one of authenticity, vulnerability, pain and beauty. Michael DeVenney is a friend of the show and an amazing advocate for the space where mental health and entrepreneurship intersect. I was blessed to be invited to Michael's beautiful home to share this conversation. I was introduced to Michael's work when we collaborated on a presentation for youth entrepreneurs, and after hearing his story, I knew I needed to get him on the pod. Michael's willingness to speak openly about a traumatic childhood that consisted of sexual violence, emotional suppression and bullying and how it's led to a lifelong journey of self-realization and healing is nothing short of inspirational. Welcome back to Life's a Wreck (it's been a minute). I've been working on this podcast for the past five months and finally get to share it with all of you. It's been an experimental podcast for me as I look forward to what the future may hold for Life's a Wreck and let me promise you it has been a ton of fun piecing together. The entirety of this episode is inspired by the future. The future of me, of this pod and of the mental health care system in Canada. I was inspired to create this episode while listening to an episode of Malcolm Gladwell's Revisionist History. The episode was on experiments and specifically what magical experiments experts in various fields would do to vastly advance their understanding of their work. I wondered "huh what would this look like for mental health" and the concept for this pod and its new sound was born. In this episode, you'll hear from:The Scientific Director of the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics (CAMH) Dr. Sean Hill, Canada's first EVER Federal Minister of Mental Health and Addiction The Honourable Dr. Carolyn Bennett, and the Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association's Nova Scotia chapter Karn Nichols. I had a tough time coming up with a name for this episode because of all that Marty and I chatted about. However, I think what strikes me the most is that this man has gone through some really tough times and still continues to seek out life's challenges, face them head-on, and embodies the idea of embracing the wreck. So this truly is simply a lesson in living. Martin Frenette is a fraud investigation, author, father, hockey coach, and role model for men everywhere simply in how he actively chooses to live. While Marty and I were in the Big Brother Canada house we talked about doing this episode so to finally have it come to life is really special. This experience is one I'll be processing for a while so this episode provides a sounding-off point, a benchmark for where I'm at in that process. This week on the podcast I'm joined by Dalhousie University Doctoral Candidate Bryce Anderson to talk about Social Anthropology and one of the biggest baddest words known to modern-day stigma...suicide. This episode is so important to me because I think it's one that my younger self could have used back when I was going through some really tough times. It's an open and casual conversation about suicide and I think all of us can take something from it. Kick back, relax, and let's have a long-overdue conversation about suicide.Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - Twitter
What's going on guys and welcome back to Life's a Wreck! This week on the podcast we're sitting down with Taylor Lindsay-Noel to talk about self-identity, grieving the loss of yourself, and how mindset can help us achieve more than we ever thought possible. Taylor was paralyzed by a gymnastics accident at 14 and during incredibly formative years of her life had to readjust her sense of self. She's since blossomed into the amazing person she is today and has launched not only a successful podcast (Tea Time with Tay) but also a Luxury Tea Company (Cup of Té). Kick back, relax, and grab some tea because this is a good one.Check out Taylor's Content on IG:@taylorln - IGCup of Té - https://cupofte.ca/Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - Twitter
Not often a few boys from Charlotte County get to sit down and get into the nitty-gritty of mental health but luckily for you, today is one of those days. This week on the podcast I'm joined by fellow mental health advocate Matthew Dickson to talk about schizophrenia and the experiences he's had living with the disease for nearly 30 years. There are some laughs, some parts that are tough to hear, and definitely some times that will make you re-evaluate so much of what you think you know about schizophrenia. This episode is an ode to all those who feel alone or that there is no one around who understands what you're going through. A beautiful episode filled with beautiful stories. A very human episode that I'm hoping you'll get as much out of as I did. The Life's a Wreck inception podcast. This week on the pod I thought it might be a fun little creative experiment to explore the world of self-talk in a deeper way by literally sitting down and interviewing myself for the pod. I woke up, thought "huh I wonder what it would look like to have a 40-minute conversation with myself?" turned it into a podcast and now you have the pleasure of suffering through it. You're welcome. In all seriousness though, I love the creative platform that the podcast provides me and this one was a lot of fun to think through and put together. If even for a second you reflect on the relationship you have with yourself and your mental state then this podcast was worth it. Kick back, relax, and enjoy whatever the hell this is.Movember!!!!!!!https://movember.com/m/14452495?mc=1Use our Tethr referral link to support yourself, any man in your life, and the podcast:https://www.tethr.men/pods?fpr=wreck20Follow the podcast:@lifesawreckpodcast - IG@lifesawreckpod - Twitter Follow Kyle:@moorzyyy - IG@kmoore0081 - Twitter

This week on the pod I'm stoked to be joined by TEDx Speaker, Mental Health Keynote and Public Speaker, Singer, Songwriter and Goodwill Ambassador to Holt International and HCMC Peace and Development Foundation; Amy Minh Hanh Corey. Amy reached out to me and after hopping on a call I knew we had to get her on the pod. Her experiences with grief, self-harm and self-acceptance are so powerful and she's chosen to share her story in a way the connects with so many people across so many mediums. I love what she's doing and I'm so happy to be able to share what she has to say with all of you. The whole reason I started this podcast was so that I had a creative medium to use when I needed to get some things off my chest. Now, going through a move, I figured it would be a great time to get back to the old Life's a Wreck podcast roots and just talk with you guys for a few. In this episode, I just talk through how being in a new environment both mentally and physically has changed my mental state and how I'm working on establishing stability in a new place. This was a fun one to put together so kick back, relax, and let's just talk for a few. Follow Kyle of IG @moorzyyyFollow the podcast on IG @lifesawreckpodcast
And we're back with another one, another absolutely lights out episode of Life's a Wreck for the homies. This week on the pod I'm so stoked to be joined by someone that I've been a fan of since early high school and have grown up admiring how they've worked for themselves and blazed their own path. This week, I'm joined by the one and only Jon Kilmer. Jon is a film, podcast, and music producer. He's an in-house creative for Mike (formerly Mike Stud) and you can see his debut feature film “The Primrose” on Amazon prime. And we are BACK! Season 5 is off to just an absolute *chefs kiss* start with this one. This week on the podcast I'm joined by one of the most prolific Big Brother Canada players in the show's history, the man they call Ro Show, Rohan Kapoor. What's going on guys? This week on the podcast I'm really stoked to be joined by men's coach, Chris Wilson. I met Chris through the monthly Tethr pods that I participate in and that Chris helps run. His impact on all the men that he works with is obvious and I couldn't wait to get him on the pod. We had a super interesting conversation surrounding some of the more philosophical concepts about the relationship between mind and body, feelings and emotions, and our internal and external life. Chris is the Founder and The Unshakable Man Brotherhood, an online community of conscious men holding space for connection, healing, and growth and in this episode, he explains the unshakable paradox which can help all men open up and live more emotionally fulfilled lives. What's up guys and welcome back to your mom's favourite mental health podcast, Life's a Wreck. This week on the show we're talking about something that is long overdue. A look into the world of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The two individuals who are sharing their experience on the podcast today are people who just reached out to tell their stories via Instagram ( @lifesawreckpodcast) but who were so compelling that we couldn't not have them share their stories with you too. This episode is definitely a tough one in parts so a trigger warning in advance. kick back and relax and let's talk about all things trauma. Welcome back to the podcast guys, this week I'm really excited to be joined by one of Canada's biggest mental health advocates and someone that I've looked up to along my own mental health journey, Michael Landsberg. Michael, the host and producer of TSN's Off The Record, has been an official spokesperson for Bell Let's Talk Day since that initiative was launched. In 2016 Michael launched his own initiative, a charity, called SickNotWeak. SickNotWeak is dedicated to changing the way Canadians see mental illness. www.SickNotWeak.com gives a voice to celebrities and everyday folks to share their struggles and their views on mental health issues. He's a great guy with an impactful story and I'm stoked for you guys to give this one a listen. Kick back and relax, this one is a fun one. This episode speaks for itself. This week I'm joined by the amazing Dr. Michael Gervais, one of the world's foremost authorities on the relationship between the mind and high performance. His clients include the Seattle Seahawks, world-record holders, Olympians, internationally acclaimed music artists, Fortune 50 CEO's and MVPs from every major sport, just to name a few of course. Not only that, but he is also the host of one of my favourite podcasts, the popular show "Finding Mastery" where he explores the psychology of the world's most extraordinary thinkers and doers. I'm a really lucky guy. I literally get to sit down and talk about mental health with some of the most interesting people I've ever met. I love every second of it and this week is no exception. Sometimes it can be hard standing out in a crowd, but especially when you're a woman and the crowd in question is a university football locker room. Reina Iizuka is the first woman to ever play men's tackle football in Canada at the university level and her story is one that needs to be heard more. From being called out by teammates to being featured on news outlets like TSN's, Reina's mental landscape has played a massive role in her life, especially over the past four years. In this episode, Reina and I talk about internal and external doubt, dealing with expectations, and also the self-imposed limitations we sometimes set for ourselves to avoid drawing attention away from things we care about. It's a great interview with an even better person, so kick back and relax because, at the end of the day, we're all just a bunch of wrecks.Follow Reina on IG:@_reinaiizuka Follow the podcast on IG:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on IG and TikTok: @moorzyyy
This week on the podcast I'm joined by one of the foremost scientists in the world of mental health; Dr. Sean Hill. Dr. Hill is the Director of the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics, Senior Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and a Professor at the University of Toronto (he's pretty smart idk if you got that yet). In this episode, Dr. Hill and I talk all about his work and how it's changing the future of mental health care, and to be honest, at times it sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi flick. Kick back, relax, and take some notes because this week we're talking about everything from artificial intelligence to sleep and even Italian food.Check out Dr. Hill's work:https://www.camh.ca/en/science-and-research/institutes-and-centres/krembil-centre-for-neuroinformaticsFollow the Podcast on Instagram:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on Instagram and Tiktok:@moorzyyyFollow Kyle on Twitter:@kmoore0081
A little wholesome content to kick off your weekend! This week on the podcast I'm talking with my good friend Gina Amin about her fitness journey and the mindset that lead her to become the happiest and healthiest version of herself. This week on the podcast I'm absolutely stoked to share our little virtual stage with one of my favourite authors, Andrew Reiner. Andrew is the author of 'Better Boys Better Men" which details the current state of masculinity and how we as a culture treat boys and men. This week on the pod I'm joined by a couple of fellow mental health podcasters Nick and Lawson from TAD Voices, to talk about the power that exists in sharing what you're going through as a man. All three of us have gone through a similar phase of not understanding how to go about talking about our mental health and then finding an outlet through podcasting and sharing our personal experiences with our audiences. In back-to-back weeks I'm so stoked to be joined by guys within the mental health space to just shoot the sh*t about all things mental health. This week on the podcast I'm sitting down with my fellow Ryerson University alumni and the Middle East's own Mental Health Ambassador Ally Salama to talk about mental health representations in minority communities and how mental health is perceived in different cultures from around the globe but particularly in the Middle East. This is a great conversation where Ally and I get into all kind of interesting topics and really talk about the importance of inspiring the next generation to take their mental health seriously. He's an incredible speaker and there are so many gems in this episode so kick back, relax, and listen to two guys talk about the ups, the downs, and just the overall wreck that life can be.Follow Ally on Instagram:@allysalamaFollow the Podcast on Instagram:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on Instagram and TikTok:@moorzyyy
This is a super special episode for me because I got to sit down with one of the first mental health podcasters I ever listened to, the amazing Bobby Temps from "Mental - The Podcast to Destigmatize Mental Health." Bobby and I had a great conversation that hasn't been highlighted on this podcasts before about body image, eating disorders and the biases that exist within gender in the mental health space. It was a phenomenal conversation so kick back and listen to just a couple of guys from opposite sides of the pond shoot the breeze about mental health. This week on the podcast I get to sit down with two of my friends (who also just so happen to be clinical psychologists *not a big deal*) Jeremy Forsythe and Alan Kian to talk about all things therapy and psychology related. What I love most about this episode is that it provides such a refreshing and honest insight into the world of therapy from two guys who are embarking down the path of seeing patients and experiencing the "other side" of therapy for the first time. The times I get to chat with the boys are some of my favourite episodes and this one is no different so kick back, relax, and listen because life's a wreck anyway so why not?Follow the podcast on Instagram:@lifesawreckpodcastFollow Kyle on Instagram:@moorzyyy
