Tim May Podcast
Inside Quinn Ewers training, development into five-star quarterback

Tim May Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2021 44:37

Last week, Lettermen Row's Tim May dove deep into the development of quarterback C.J. Stroud as a high school prospect and what makes Stroud the favorite to win the Ohio State quarterback job. Now that Quinn Ewers has officially chosen to enroll at Ohio State in August, however, there's added intrigue in the Buckeyes quarterback room. On this week's edition of the Tim May Podcast, Tim shifted his focus to Ewers as he prepares to head to Columbus soon. Joining Tim on the show is Bobby Stroupe, the Founder and President of ATHLETE Performance Enhancement Center (APEC). Over the past 20-plus years, the Texas-based trainer has worked with some of the best athletes in the the country. That includes recent clients such as NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes, Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro receiver Chris Godwin and Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jedrick Wills. Stroupe's impressive résumé also includes training more than 30 MLB players, including six All-Stars, in addition to a pair of Heisman Trophy candidates. Ewers is one of Stroupe's most recent clients. Stroupe has trained the five-star quarterback and helped develop him into the No. 1 overall prospect in the country and the highest-ranked commit in Buckeyes history. That includes a workout with Mahomes and Sam Ehlinger just two weeks before Ewers reclassified to the 2021 class. Can Ewers become a legendary Ohio State quarterback? What traits make Ewers one of the most anticipated quarterback recruits to ever come to Columbus? And are the comparisons made between Ewers and Patrick Mahomes justified? Albert Camus' 'The Plague' has regained significance in 2020 with very obvious parallels to the COVID-19 crises that have faced communities across the world. Perhaps less obvious is the relevance of Camus' commentary on how individuals and societies deal with the frailty of life and the attempts to control the chaos of human nature. Camus' fascination with the absurd brings with it wonderful imagery of people facing the waves in the ocean, working against them or being pushed by them. Joining Tim and David to discuss this book in a mini-book club, is Luke, who found us through David's Appearance on The Unforgiving60 podcast. This discussion introduces listeners to Albert Camus' most famous writing with an introduction into the absurdity we accept from fear of death and by no means requires you to have read the book first, and in fact, could summarise the learnings. Satirising war from a WWII Bombardier's perspective, Joseph Heller's most famous work Catch 22 is now synonymous with absurdity and bureaucracy. Like the main protagonist of the story, Joseph Heller served as a bombardier and had significant insight into war and the military which he satires, making the book all the more poignant. Like many works that precede this, Catch 22's "Tragicomdedy" narrative draws the reader in with relatable hilarity but leaves the reader on sour notes. Joining Tim and David to discuss this book in a mini-book club, is Luke, who found us through David's Appearance on The Unforgiving60 podcast. After all the hype, all the outcry, all the disappointment, all the excitement, Pokemon Sword and Shield are finally here, and it's time for the Nxpress' resident Pokemon expert, Mr. Tim Maison, to deliver his verdict on where this entry stands in the series pantheon. Joining Tim is casual pokemon observer Patrick, as well as Goomba Stomp's Nintendo editor (and official Sword and Shield reviewer), James Baker. Will the two franchise fans duke it out over differing opinions, or are there some common-ground criticisms that one might be better able to ignore than the other? Regardless of any negativity slung around at subjects like Gigantamaxing or Mr. Rime (what did he ever do to anyone?), the guys ultimately have plenty of love for the splendid gameplay and lovingly realized world. Before that debate, Patrick takes a more active role as he reviews Bee Simulator on his quest for the latest indie gems. And while this title may not garner much buzz for its gameplay, solid flight mechanics and loads of sincere enthusiasm for apians makes it work better as a piece of edutainment for younger gamers to enjoy. For the last segment, Patrick then also review the fantastic 3D platformer New Super Lucky's Tale, which is a reworked version of the Xbox One game that's now available exclusively on Switch. While it may not come close to challenging Mario for the throne, Playful has created one of the most enjoyable entries in the genre in a long time. To hear all the superlatives Patrick has for this little fox's adventure, and for plenty more, have a listen!
