Mic Wright returns to KATG for the first time since his 2008 Live in London appearance! Jolly pip pip! Keith and Mic discuss American Mother's Day, over-politeness, and Keith nerve-wracklingly hiring movers. The duo isn't afraid to get into the deep topics including 72-year-old Bill Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson's attitude during Bill's interviews and Jordon again losing the Miss Maine beauty contest. Suzanne Somers' husband has an AI robot of his dead wife, Tiger King's Joe Exotic got married again while in prison, and Donald Trump obviously recently watched Clint Eastwood's Escape from Alcatraz. We learn from Mic about England's attitude on the U.S., Russell Brand, the Pope, and America's Second Amendment. Then the two get into Mic's new book Breaking: How the Media Works, When it Doesn't, and Why it Matters.
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.Joining Tim this time is journalist Mic Wright, who's rummaging around in a crisp bag in search of Cargo by Men At Work, Rocko's Modern Life, Party Animals, Solitary Fitness by Charles Bronson and Tazos. Along the way we'll be discussing how to avoid Ebeneezer Goode Syndrome, ruminating on The Thinking Man's Pog, trying to swap a duplicate Michael Parkinson Tazo for three Matt Smiths and revealing just how close Tupac Shakur came to appearing in Ballykissangel. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. You can also find Mic on Looks Unfamiliar talking about The Adventures Of Pete And Pete, Army And Navy Sweets, Emergency by 999, Rock On by David Essex, Thunderbirds comic and the murky origins of a certain unsavoury playground rumour here and I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape by The Times, Clarissa Explains It All, 2000 AD strip Nikolai Dante, Sharky And George, Jeff Lint and The Game here.If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, why not buy us a coffee here? I'd say they should do a Kenco Tazo, but... it would probably logistically have to be a set based on Tenko.
Tim Worthington has a new book out called The Golden Age Of Children's TV - all about the best, worst and most just plain baffling shows you grew up with in the sixties, seventies and eighties - and the lines are open now for an hour of fun, facts, laughs and thrills. Estelle Hargraves will be getting into gear and hitting the street to tell us why No. 73 was less chaotic than some actual shared houses she's lived in, live on-air snake bites and all. Gabby Hutchinson Crouch would like to hear from anyone with a hot tip on a story for the Junior Gazette in Press Gang, and she's especially keen to hear from Colin. Jonny Morris will be showing us how, despite Chas'n'Dave's promise in the theme lyrics to 'catch you out', you can win at Crackerjack! (CRACKERJACK!) by cheating. Mic Wright is heading off Around The World With Willy Fog, and Garreth Hirons has a more serious message to impart about why you shouldn't open that Trap Door. So if you want to join in the fun - or just swap a copy of The Richard Stilgoe Letters for a boxed Camberwick Green Village Playset - ring the show now!You can get The Golden Age Of Children's TV in all good bookshops, from Amazon here or directly from Black And White Publishing here - and if you want to know more about what you can find in it, head for timworthington.org!
Natalie Elphicke is the one time Tory MP who crossed the floor of the House of Commons recently to join the backbenches on Keir Starmer's side, prompting more than a few raised eyebrows among her new colleagues. The Dover MP was seen as being on the right of the party – she has backed strionger rules on migtation, and opposed a climate change test for new oil and gas licenses. So what message does it send that she's now been embraced by a party that still clings to the notion that it's left wing. There's another curious aspect to the story too…the Sunday Times has alleged that in July 2020 Elphicke tried to persuade former Justice Secretary Robert Buckland to change the judge who was due to try her husband Charlie Elphicke's case for sexual assault. Buckland is said to have immediately rejected the idea and Natalie Elphicke denies the claim. But isn't it convenient for the Conservatives that this story didn't appear for for four years but then popped out into the open blinking in the harsh glare of publicity the moment she switched to Labour? The second episode of Secret Invasion makes the Skrull refugee conflict even more complex, and unpicks the legacy of Nick Fury as the hero who once promised to save them, but can Marvel be trusted to explore the political and social issues of the show in a satisfying and thoughtful way? The Metropolitan Police has faced criticism following the controversial arrest of six anti-monarchy protesters during King Charles III's coronation under new public order laws. Recent changes to the law under the new Public Order Act, passed shortly before the coronation, make it illegal for protesters to use equipment to secure themselves to things like railings. On the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson explores what does the Public Order Act say, what is it meant to do, and why is there the potential to interpret it badly? Joining Niall are journalist Mic Wright who witnessed police action at the coronation, former chief constable of Greater Manchester Police Sir Peter Fahy, human rights barrister Adam Wagner, and professor of international law at the University of Portsmouth Leïla Choukroune. Oh dear: this writer has really set them off! Mic Wright wrote a detailed exposé of the British media's 'nepo babies' - that is, how so many journalists are related to other famous media types. The result was a fair bit of anger. But the British media on a national level is one of the most privileged industries in the country. It distorts and damages our democracy - and this is why it matters.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-owen-jones-podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

NonCensored is a weekly round up of Harriet Langley-Swindon's very popular, very real daily radio show, completely non-Censored (but with all of the rubbish edited out). Harriet was away on the day this episode was recorded, so Nadine Dorries follows up her triumphant guest-hosting stint on TV this week by kindly stepping in. She and producer Martin interview Rosie Holt MP, and introduce clips from earlier in the week, such as Rishi Sunak's first broadcast interview and a valedictory interview with once and future Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has some exclusive news about what he's doing next. There's also an extended interview with journalist Mic Wright, who talks about the problems with the British media and how they've covered Rishi Sunak's elevation to Prime Minister. With the UK government seeing more changes in personnel than an average season at Chelsea FC and the economy on the verge of total collapse, we bring you a little update on the cornucopia of clownery that is British politics in 2022. After the announcement of former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's neoliberal wet dream of a Growth Package sent the value of the Pound hurtling downwards, we have seen several weeks of unabated chaos, and of course the resignation of PM Liz Truss which happened in the time between the recording of this episode and its release. Happy times! /// SHOW NOTES /// /// CREDITS /// Hosts: Aarjan Guest: Mic Wright Production: Connor Music: Cardio /// The Dave Clarke Five - Sha Na Na Hey Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye
Welcome to the Anti-Growth Coalition! Who else is in the club? Take a look around, its absolutely everyone except the Conservative Party, who weirdly aren't helping to grow anything so you think they'd want in, but they get very angry when we ask. Along the way we'll be debating whether Tony Soprano would still come top of all of those critics' lists if he had a pet alligator, playing Paranoid Mornington Crescent, trying to figure out the logic behind posting on the Internet to say there's nothing on the Internet about Sharky And George, and placing bets on whether anyone can beat Margaret Thatcher at The Game. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.

Mic Wright talks about journalists' self-regard, and Alexa has some ideas about Jon Holmes. I am uploading this two days late, from the queue for a ferry. I hadn't uploaded it, but managed to find a backup of the raw record online, which I downloaded onto my laptop. But the battery was nearly gone. I just had time to edit it and airdrop it to my ipad, but ipads and apple have an extremely condescending attitude to file types and I couldn't upload it. So I transferred it to kim's laptop, whence I am writing now. And we're about to get on the ferry. THANK GOD FOR MOBILE HOTSPOTS. Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. Joining Tim this time is journalist Mic Wright, who's noting that no newspaper front pages contain anything about The Adventures Of Pete And Pete, Army And Navy Sweets, Emergency by 999, Rock On by David Essex, the early nineties Thunderbirds comic, and the murky origins of a certain unsavoury playground rumour. Along the way we'll be admiring Jeff Wayne's skateboarding skills, assessing Ian Pick and Ian Mix's retirement plan, and finding out when Melissa Joan Hart was a member of The Beatles. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/

Howdy y'all. Welcome to your weekend Trashfuture. Join Riley (@raaleh), Hussein (@HKesvani), Milo (@Milo_Edwards), and our twitter friend Suze Marsupial (@suzemarsupial) filling in as fourth host to talk about the slimiest take on the President's Club from the slimiest journalist out there (Brendan O'Neill, of course) in the first half with journalists Niamh McIntyre (@Niamh_Mcintyre) and Mic Wright (@brokenbottleboy). Audio goblins attacked the first segment, so we unfortunately lost our detailed discussion of Niamh's article on the sexualisation of the service industry, but expect that this week. In the second half, we discuss Mic's exposé on local councils and homelessness policy, the cult of homeownership, and the dumbest "tech" solution we've yet seen pointed at a problem of this magnitude. Niamh's article is here: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/zmqdy8/sexual-harassment-is-all-too-common-in-hospitality-work Mic's article is here: https://mic-wright-dl3y.squarespace.com/what-you-need-to-know/2018/1/13/homelessness Follow us on twitter @trashfuturepod Thanks to Jinsang for our theme song, herewego xoxo Riley
