Episode Summary: In this episode, Heather “Lucky” Penney discusses why the Air Force has a chronic pilot shortfall and solutions to solve it with Lt Gen Joseph Guastella, USAF (Ret) and Lt Gen Marc Sasseville, USAF (Ret). Bottom line: the Air Force's pilot corps is now too small to sustain a healthy combat force that can prevail in a peer conflict and meet the nation's other national security requirements. Air Force leaders recognize the shortfall and have worked hard to address it, but underlying and external factors persist. Effective joint force operations demand robust combat airpower. Pilot experience is critical to this effort. Join us to understand what's driving these challenges and what defense leaders and Congress need to do to fix it. Bottom line, the U.S. Air Force does not have enough pilots to sustain a credible combat force in peacetime, much less during a prolonged high-intensity conflict. History demonstrates that without depth of experienced aircrew, air forces collapse in major conflicts because they cannot continue operations as losses mount. While this crisis extends across the entire pilot force, the shortfall in fighter pilots is especially dire. Solving these challenges will require the Air Force to grow the size of both its aircraft inventory and pilot force, while simultaneously increasing the experience levels of its combat pilots across its Total Force.

Paying attention to relaxation and releasing tension in the body can lead to improved performance and a state of flow.Exploring different running philosophies and approaches can provide valuable insights and help refine your training methods. The 80-20 principle, which involves spending 80% of training time at low intensity and 20% at high intensity, has been observed in elite athletes across various endurance sports.Listening to your body and adjusting training based on how you feel is essential for long-term success and injury prevention. Laying a strong foundation is crucial for consistent running.Stacking workouts and building resilience is key to becoming a robust and capable athlete.Prioritizing shorter, faster runs can help improve speed and performance.Trail running can lead to increased fatigue and strength due to the varied terrain and footstrike.Running on dirt surfaces can be more comfortable and easier on the body compared to pavement.TRANSCRIPT:https://share.transistor.fm/s/b72f7105/transcript.txtMORE FROM RELAXED RUNNING:Website: www.relaxedrunning.com/getstartedPODCAST INFO:Podcast Website: www.relaxedrunning.comApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast...Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2MMfLsQ...RSS: https://feeds.transistor.fm/relaxed-r...SOCIALS:- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/relaxedrunning- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/relaxed_run...

In this fun episode of the show, I had the amazing privilege of interviewing a long-time friend and extraordinary individual, Dale Stark! From his journey of being a near high school dropout to becoming a celebrated U.S. Air Force pilot, Dale's story is a testament to determination, resilience, and pursuit of one's dreams. Listen in as we discuss the mindset that propelled Dale to reach the pinnacle of the military hierarchy and then his impressive transition from fighting in the skies to peacefully taming fields - his current role as a dedicated cattle rancher-conservationist. Dale's unique take on the U.S. military complex and government may also leave you surprised! We also delve deeper into Dale's life, exploring how he found his way back to his roots, reminiscing about teenage buddies while drawing contentment from the challenge of his newfound path. We chat about various topics such as ranching, taming the wilderness, and sustainable living, and Dale's powerful and inspiring narrative compels us to question the norm, upend societal expectations dramatically, and genuinely pursue happiness. The conversation goes full circle as we discuss how Dale leverages his massive online influence responsibly while staying true to his cause. In this week's MBA Admissions podcast we began by discussing the upcoming Round 1 deadlines for this new season, as we close out last season. Graham then highlighted several events that Clear Admit is hosting over the next month. Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 22, we host a webinar with CMU / Tepper: https://bit.ly./teppermbawebinar, on Monday, August 28, we have a Clear Admit+ webinar, and we have a Real Humans webinar which includes alumni and students from top MBA programs on August 30th: https://bit.ly/rhwebinar5. We will also be hosting our next Essay Insights series in early September... Graham then highlighted three Adcom Q&As, where we interview admissions directors at Cornell / Johnson, Washington / Olin and ESMT Berlin. Later in this podcast episode, we also had a conversation about UPenn / Wharton's recently released class profile for the Class of 2025. This is the first released profile from a top MBA program. What was notable, aside from a decline in application volume, was the corresponding 5 point drop in the average GMAT score. It will be interesting to see if these declines are reflected at other top programs... As usual, for the candidate profile review portion of the show, Alex selected three ApplyWire entries: This week's first MBA admissions candidate is an instructor pilot in the Air Force. They appear to have done very well during their military service. They have a strong GRE of 334, but their GPA is their weak point, at 2.5. Taking Business Fundamentals, MBA Math, or the equivalent may help. We do hope they are able to overcome this aspect of their candidacy as everything else looks very strong. This week's second MBA candidate has a strong entrepreneurial profile, both in Argentina and the United States. They are also first generation, and do some additional work for those with low incomes. The one worry we have for this profile is the combination of the GMAT (710, 42 quant) and GPA of 3.2. Because the quant score of the GMAT is low, we really think any improvement there will have impact. And they can then apply in Round 2. The final MBA candidate is a two-time cancer survivor, which had impact on their academic record (3.36). They do have a 337 GRE, and their work experience and community experience looks strong. Their goals are related to their life experience, and overall, this does look like a very strong candidate. This episode was recorded in Philadelphia, PA and Cornwall, England. It was produced and engineered by the fabulous Dennis Crowley in Philadelphia, USA. Thanks to all of you who've been joining us and please remember to rate and review this show wherever you listen!

"Small mistakes can have big consequences."When Hasard Lee was learning to dogfight in the F-16 fighter jet, he made a minor error while maneuvering the plane vertically and his airspeed dropped to 0. With afterburners fully engaged - sending a 30 ft flame from the back of the plane - he and the $70m jet were going backward. The nose of the plane suddenly snapped downward, and - at negative 2.4 G's - he's being pulled upward with over 500 pounds of force. With alarms blaring, he's heading into an out-of-control spin toward the Earth. 5 seconds before impact, Lee was able to stabilize the craft and regain airspeed. Based on years of experience making high-stakes, split-second decisions as a fighter pilot and later awarded 'Top Instructor Pilot of the Year' for the Air Force's largest F-16 Combat Wing, Hasard has spent the last six years cementing his knowledge in the new book The Art of Clear Thinking, which teaches readers to make clear decisions in their everyday life.Lee has also amassed a YouTube following that's watched over 10 million times each month and a 290 million person reach across social media in just two years. In today's conversation, James and Hasard pivot between death-defying stories and the principles that help make rational clear-headed decisions to avoid disaster and succeed.Buy The Art of Clear Thinking here from your favorite retailer!Check out  Hasard's WebsiteWatch Hasard's YouTube channel, (10+ million views every month!)------------What do YOU think of the show? "Navy SEAL Down!" Those are words no soldier in battle ever wants to hear. In the case of this week's Team Never Quit guest, Jeff "Spanky" Peterson, the mission he had trained for as an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter pilot finally came into play in the mountains of Afghanistan. His mission: to rescue this podcast's host - Navy SEAL 10's Marcus Luttrell (code name: "Spider-Man") - after a dramatic & horrific ending to Operation Red Wings. Listen in to Jeff's detailed description of the events leading up to that harrowing rescue, and learn firsthand the degree of risk taken by U.S. soldiers on a day-in-day-out basis. The average American has no idea of the degree of "badassery" occurring in the theater of war by the U.S military around the world. In this episode you will hear: People call us heroes, but I don't think of it that way. “Pack a three-day bag. You're going up north.” A rocket-propelled grenade brought a Chinook chopper down, killing 16 men. Command picks up a clicking sound on a rescue radio frequency. My crew included a 57-year-old flight engineer, a gunner - a nervous University of Arizona student. My co-pilot was “Skinny”, 40-year-old seasoned by thousands of hours flying a Blackhawk. Are we looking for Americans, survivors, or is this a trap by the Taliban to draw in another chopper and blow it out of the sky? An elderly Afghani man arrives at a small Marine camp, with a note written by Luttrell. We have to fly into hostile Taliban territory to get him out. “It was dark and the weather was bad. It was a black abyss.” Except for the green glow of the rooftop position lights, we were flying black. "It was the Fourth of July out there." “We didn't even know where we were going and which strobe light was the right one. It was just like a flashlight from God.” Within 10 feet from the ground, the rotors kicked up a storm of dust, sending us into a total brownout. I couldn't see the wall, the ground, or the cliff. Both of ‘em were wearing Afghani man jammies. Before taking him aboard, we had to authenticate Marcus by asking him to say his dog's name and his favorite superhero. For the record, the answers are Emma and Spider-Man. When we got back, the only thing I wanted to do was talk to my wife, but we couldn't talk openly. All I could say was "Everything is good, "Everything is really, really good." "We stick our butts on the line to save people." "That's our combat mission.”
