The Tracing Owls podcast is a paranormal enigma that offers a unique and captivating listening experience. Hosted by Vuk, the show consistently covers interesting topics and features incredibly mindful guests. Each episode leaves listeners with a handful of new research tabs open, as they dive into the rabbit holes of fascinating subjects. It's refreshing to find a podcast that not only entertains, but also sparks excitement and curiosity to explore further.
One of the best aspects of The Tracing Owls podcast is the wide range of topics covered. Vuk delves into everything from lucid dreaming to cryptids, providing a diverse selection of content for listeners to enjoy. The guests on the show are engaging and at ease talking to Vuk, creating an enjoyable and informative conversation. The host's ability to touch on intellectual and philosophical aspects adds depth to the discussions, making this podcast more than just entertainment.
Furthermore, Vuk's genuine curiosity and authentic nature shine through in each episode. His passion for exploring unconventional topics is evident, making it easy for listeners to connect with his enthusiasm. The show's focus on high strangeness rather than solely spooky ghost stories sets it apart from other paranormal podcasts. This unique approach allows for deeper consideration of the implications behind these phenomena, encouraging listeners to engage in thought-provoking discussions.
However, one downside of The Tracing Owls podcast is its esoteric nature. While some may appreciate its focus on Forteana and weird experiences, others may find it too niche or abstract for their taste. Additionally, the conversational style may not appeal to those looking for more structured or fact-based content on paranormal subjects.
In conclusion, The Tracing Owls podcast is an exceptional addition to the world of paranormal podcasts. Vuk's intriguing perspectives, combined with his blog-like ramblings and insightful interviews, provide a wide array of captivating content for listeners to explore. Each episode leaves listeners with new ideas and perspectives on the true nature of reality and the paranormal. With its unique approach and engaging discussions, The Tracing Owls podcast is highly recommended for those interested in delving deep into the enigmatic realms of Forteana.

UFO Bigfoot snuggles with me in bed to discuss awesome paranormal books, the Bigfoot/UFO connection, Bigfoot as an egregore and a plethora of connections between the Fae and other liminal entities! He is a bit shy at first snuggling in bed with a stranger, but eventually opens up to share his own personal experiences: a childhood ghost encounter, the sighting of a light orb splitting into 12 pieces, and a shamanic initiation under the influence of 90s acid! DISCLAIMER: Please don't use drugs! They are bad for you, and will make you do horrible things. Like snuggling in bed with me and discussing the voluptuous bosom of Patty the Sasquatch! UFO Bigfoot did it so you don't have to! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to UFO Bigfoot from Dark Notes Podcast for reading me weird ass bedtime stories which kept me awake until 6 AM! Or was it the fact I heard him share he thinks Patty is pretty hot?
Might river monster legends be projected ancestral memories of freakin' hippos, passed onto us from our earliest roots in Africa? Discussed are the Kelpie, Dobhar-chu, Ahuizotl, and their possible achetypal ties to the #1 deadliest animal in Africa!
Do cryptids and ghosts serve as personified reminders of obscure historical events? And are we using them as middle men who allow us to gracefully disassociate ourselves from the errors of our past? Discussed is the idea that cryptids and ghosts may serve as bookmarks which help us rediscover our own history, with special emphasis on the Hull Werewolf and the Sliderock Bolter.

I have been pursuing the idea butterflies so intensely that my head has found its way up my butt! So as I am taking a break, my plans are to create audio blog content where I may ramble and pass these butterflies (and some gas) onto y'all! P.S. I was informed that "divinating" is not a real word, but since "divining" sounds very Christian for some reason I don't care
Jordan joins my attempt to piss off the cryptid community by endorsing them darn hoaxers! We blatantly declare the Patterson-Gimlin footage a hoax, using its mangled remains alongside other fraudulent cryptid shenanigans to demonstrate how Bigfoot actually IS real, but not the way you want it to be! Can hoaxes actually spark genuine phenomena? Can they manifest monsters in the form of egregores or tulpas? Or are these monstrous manifestations rather our instinctual projections which inspire us to form and maintain communities? We hop across America discussing some favorite imaginal cryptid fugitives: The elegantly coon-suited Selbyville Swamp Monster! The bombastic radio-surfing Cole Hollow Road Monster! The reckless vehicle-shredding Lizardman of Scape Ore Swamp! The chonky finger-biting Beast of Busco! ...and the perpetually intoxicated horny bunny himself: The Jackalope! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Jordan Heath of Campfire: Something Something for sharing controversial opinions with me, as well as being open to assist rattling the cage of the mainstream cryptid community! Matt and Angel lose their minds digging through the questionable origins of beloved international cryptids! Starting a cryptid podcast just as a fun way to talk about monsters, their desire for proper research oftentimes leads them head first into the dark underbelly of our historical past they never anticipate! Cultural appropriation, colonial imperialism, and even blatant racism have been a staple of cryptozoology since its inception. Has this changed at all in modern times, or are we now repurposing these stolen cultural icons to sell cheap products to the masses? To answer this, we also take a brief dive into Matt and Angel's favorite pastime: Discussing shitty cryptid movies! We almost get eaten by ghost sharks along the way

The 1953 Martian Monkey Hoax: at the time Georgia's most enduring unsolved mystery! This scandal grabbed the imagination of international newspapers, and the poor judgement of bad veterinarians, sparking the annoyed granddaddy of Georgian forensic science himself to crack the case within just a few hours! Nevertheless, this odd story is now forever catalogued within the annals of Georgian forensic history via a pickled-up monkey carcass, safely tucked away in a so-called museum of the GBI crime lab. Landen joins to further dissect this 70-year-old corpse and share his own encounters with it at his former job! Yes, whenever we talk small-town museums or rotting corpses, Landen is always eager to hop onboard! Along the way he further demolishes our sensibilities by discussing autopsies of beloved pets, a lethally vicious dog attack case, cattle mutilation and how to determine whether Chupacabra victims are actually drained of blood! But most disturbing of all, we get hungry by the end and start talking food again... ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Landen from Autopsy. An artist, art teacher and experiencer, Christina has an overwhelmingly positive view of the paranormal. Shadow people don't worry her—humans do. (I can't fault her—humans are scary critters.) What do you get when an alligator falls in love with a raccoon? A vile atrocious unsightly mess... named the Coonigator! Or not, because Mother Nature is a bigot and does not approve of inter-species romance! Along the way we will educate you on just why natural selection prevents the formation of hybrid monstrosities, why it is never a good idea to hug a raccoon, why possums are terrifying, and just why this cute lil cryptid enjoys bananas so much. There is hardly any info on it, so we try to fill in the holes with bananas! Nope, that was not an innuendo! ...

Horsegirl Kat, an avid horse rider, joins to discuss a dark secret we have willfully ignored throughout the centuries. Are horses bloodthirsty carnivorous killers? From baby chicks, to human testicles, to even others of their kind, horses have consistently been witnessed throughout history devouring meat and sipping on blood. AP Strange returns to carefully tap-dance around the miraculous yet ethically questionable history of sideshows! Our idea was to discuss the 1932 Todd Browning movie "Freaks", emphasizing the amazing careers and inspirational life stories of its diverse cast, who came in all shapes and sizes. But as is the case when discussing the old timey sideshow circuit and its performers, we quickly ended up having to navigate through a minefield of controversy, exploitation, moral dilemmas, and a giant mirror reflecting back at ourselves! Nevertheless, we kept ourselves in the safety of the spotlight, sharing insight into the lives of these exceptional individuals, who overcame tremendous physical and societal challenges to master skills and talents which convey the magic and power of human will. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to AP Strange for soothing our ears with his delightful voice! Cole and I lose our heads sharing creepy stories of ghost animals missing their heads! (or even other body parts) TRIGGER WARNING: Ghost animals are most often dead animals. If they're missing their heads, they obviously died a gruesome death! Though no animals were harmed during the making of this episode, we will be dancing around suggestions of animal cruelty or mutilation. Discussed are spooky tales of a ghost cow with a detached floating head, a frozen ghost chicken in London, haunted slaughterhouses, headless phantom dogs, a man who turned into a flaming turkey, mountain lion taxidermies coming to life, and even a cursed skeleton of a freakin' donkey! As this episode was already dead on arrival, we also consistently deviate into movie tangents, random biology lectures, and cringy jokes which will make the listener's head fall off! =========== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Cole Herrold for doing amazing research and digging up so many obscure stories about such a specific weird-ass topic! Mothboy Mike shares his spiritual pilgrimage through West Virginia, paying homage to a cast of colorful Fortean icons! Co-hosting the Mothboys Podcast, and authoring a new children's book about the Vegetable Man, Mikey has been nurturing a recent interest in the writings and colorful life of Gray Barker. Driven by an otherworldly compulsion, Mike has been making multiple pilgrimages to the Gray Barker archives in Clarksburg, WV, familiarizing himself with Gray's often overlooked case materials and personal correspondences... but the journey did not end there! Along the way he has been making stops to the grave site of Jennings Frederick, paying his respects to the Vegetable Man witness. The recent sad passing of Robert Cockrell, the Grafton Monster witness, compelled Mikey to assume the role of the monster's avatar, serving as a beacon of inspiration and curiosity to all who remember this wonderful story. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Michael Strayer for opening up and sharing his inspirational and very touching journey of paying homage to some of West Virginia's most incredible Fortean icons! ❤️ Check out his podcast Mothboys Podcast HERE Follow them on Instagram @mothboyspodcast Twitter @MothboysPodcast or Facebook @Mothboys Grab a copy of Mike's weird-ass book "Curious Creatures: The Vegetable Man" which you can find HERE ...or check out his earlier, more wholesome book "Mothman Learns the ABCs" which you can find HERE Check out Ballyraven at their Etsy page and ConjureDustDesigns at their Etsy page ====================== Episode artwork by ConjureDustDesigns Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com
Jason shares his vast knowledge of West Virginian history, helping me divinate their cryptids via tarot! As a teacher, outdoorsman, West Virginian and host of The Esoteric Book Club, Jason is very knowledgeable on the history of his home state, and all the cultural eccentricities which make it a hotspot for high strangeness! Today we spend almost 2 hours analyzing the symbology of the most popular West Virginian cryptids, breaking down their societal roles and cultural impact through the archetypes of the Major Arcana, even though neither of us are experts in tarot and we probably messed up every interpretation! But no worries, as we often lose our train of thought and delve into discussion about ultraterrestrials, dinosaur poop, bootleg moonshine, and just why the Appalachians are rich in cultural identity and otherworldly phenomena! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Jason from Esoteric Book Club for sharing his delightful insight into the culture and history of his home state of West Virginia! ❤️ Check out his podcast The Esoteric Book Club HERE or visit their website at esotericbookclub.org Follow them on Instagram @esotericbookclub or Facebook @esotericbookclub Support them on Patreon HERE ====================== Episode artwork by Jason @esotericbookclub Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com
Christina shares her childhood initiation into high strangeness, leading her down a path of UFO research and a Man in Black encounter! Witnessing an image of the Flatwoods Monster in a tabloid at an early age initiated Christina into a world of the weird, where otherness is the norm and rules are non-existent. A later teenage psychedelic experience in the forest left a permanent impression that there is much more to nature, and reality itself, than what we can see with our naked eyes. We discuss the effects of childhood trauma in predisposing us to the world of high strangeness, the role media and books play in nurturing and empowering our sense of otherness, the influence of psychedelics in shattering our sense of reality, and the abandonment of our childhood beliefs which paves the way to a more holistic understanding of The Other. ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to The Crescent Hare, a.k.a. Today we celebrate Erin reaching 100 episodes of Myth Monsters Podcast, by re-releasing this amazing discussion we had talking about the role of female monsters in Greek mythology! Medusa, Harpies, even the The Chimera for centuries have been used as slaying fodder of manly heroes hellbent on displaying their masculinity, to the detriment of the much subtler feminine natural forces. Just look at the story of Hades and Persephone (also discussed). Are the feminine monsters of myth a cultural reflection of an overarching social issue we still face nowadays, and how do we rectify this? We discuss contemporary society's reclaiming of the monstrous feminine, why monsters are much more intricate than heroes, and we even delve a bit into the portrayal of classic mythology in the gaming world! Yes, girls play games too, and oftentimes much more creatively ❤️ FACTUAL CORRECTION: I kinda used the term Harpy to refer to Sirens and probably confused poor Erin. It seems Sirens were officially the ladies punished by Demeter. Greek mythology is more convoluted than X-Men comics! To be fair, both Harpies and Sirens are bird-women, and equally badass
Theshira helps us navigate the world of South African river deities, serpentine cryptids and black magick! As the host of Legendary Africa Podcast, and resident South African, Theshira researches folklore and legends from all across the African continent, stories which throughout the centuries have most often been lost to history or irreparably warped by colonial influence. Today we present our collaborative research into the Mamlambo, a figure which has assumed many forms throughout the years: serpent goddess, witch's familiar, brain-sucking river monster, even wealthy and seductive white foreigners! But with the advent of Western capitalism in South Africa, we are also bearing witness to a bizarre cultural transformation, where figures of traditional belief are molded and repurposed into embodiments of modern globalization and capitalistic greed! ====================== Huge THANK YOU!!! to Theshira from Legendary Africa for sharing so many important insights, allowing us to frame our conversation within its proper cultural and social context! ❤️ Check out her podcasts: Legendary Africa HERE The Asian Tapestry HERE Once Upon a Daydream HERE Follow Theshira on Instagram @legendarypod and Twitter @Legendarypod1 ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls or Twitter @TracingOwls Check our Linktree: linktr.ee/tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== SOURCES: Mamlambo | Cryptid Wiki Woman opens up about Mamlambo snake that loves S.e.x MAMLAMBO: ‘RATHER SIGN FOR A COCKROACH!' Author and folklorist Morgan Daimler returns to discuss the role of A.I. in reshaping folklore, leading to a potential future where cultural nuance is lost in favor of a bland tasteless gray goo! With the rise in popularity of A.I.-driven writing tools, nowadays we are witnessing never-before-seen transformations of cultural tropes into incoherent, conflicting and homogeneous gobbledygook. But is this truly a new phenomenon, or have we been diluting and mixing up folklore for centuries? Morgan and I also discuss the turmoils of researching the history of fairy belief, the influence of Christians and Victorians in reshaping fairy lore, and how modern nontraditional tropes make their way into not just our pop culture, but also bleed into the real world through anecdotal encounters with the Good Folk!
