On episode 406, Ryan is joined by journalist, Tyler Hooper from VICE news. He walks us through the mysterious case of Granger Taylor, and the subsequent documentary that followed. Taylor was a master mechanic who built a spaceship. One rainy day in November, he left a note for his family saying that he was going into space on an interstellar voyage. He then mysteriously vanished off the face of the earth. Vice journalist, Tyler Hooper, covered the story in depth, having also contributed to a recent documentary on it. Hooper describes the entire string of events and his theories on what may have happened to Granger Taylor.Special Thanks to Micah Hanks for his voice talents in this episode. Send us a textAn astronaut floating alone six months into a year-long mission. A mysterious alien spider that appears out of nowhere. A marriage crumbling across the vast emptiness of space. Netflix's "Spaceman" promised profound cosmic revelations but delivered a beautiful yet frustratingly hollow meditation on human connection.Adam Sandler stars as Jakob, a Czech astronaut studying a mysterious cloud near Jupiter while his pregnant wife Lenka (Carey Mulligan) contemplates leaving him back on Earth. When a giant talking spider named Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) materializes on his spacecraft, Jakob embarks on a psychological journey through memories and regrets rather than the stars. The film tantalizes with visual splendor – the zero-gravity sequences alone showcase remarkable technical achievement – but ultimately fails to answer its own existential questions. What makes "Spaceman" so frustrating is how close it comes to profundity. Adapted from Jaroslav Kalfař's novel "Spaceman of Bohemia," the film strips away crucial context that would have heightened the stakes. In the book, Jakob's mission is explicitly suicidal, a redemptive sacrifice to restore his family's honor after his father's disgrace as a government informant. Without this framework, Jakob's journey feels aimless, his relationship problems trivial compared to the cosmic scale of his surroundings. The film's greatest strength lies in its willingness to embrace ambiguity – is the spider real or a manifestation of Jakob's lonely mind? Does the mysterious cloud contain universal wisdom or merely reflect our own projections? Yet this same ambiguity becomes its downfall when extended to character motivations and narrative purpose. By the time Jakob reaches his emotional epiphany, we've spent too little time understanding who he was before to appreciate who he's become.Have you ever felt disconnected from someone you love despite being physically close? How would that feeling magnify across millions of miles of empty space? Watch "Spaceman" for its visual poetry and committed performances, but prepare for an emotional journey that, like its protagonist, never quite reaches its destination.Written Lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

https://www.spencercreaghan.comInstagram ImdbSpencer Creaghan Bio: Spencer Creaghan is a multi-award-winning composer known for his evocative scores in film, television, and video games. His recent work includes the hit SYFY series SURREALESTATE, the surrealist co-score for the Sci-Fi short SPACEMAN, which earned him a Hollywood Music in Media Award in 2024, and a Canadian Screen Award nomination for his score for MOTHERLY. He also scored QUICKENING and I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, both of which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. His credits span AMC+'s SLASHER: RIPPER, BLACK WATER, HOT WHEELS RACERVERSE, and original songs for My Little Pony: Make Your Mark on Netflix. Spencer's music has been featured at prestigious festivals like TIFF, Cannes, and Sundance and aired on networks such as SYFY, CTV, NBC, and Netflix. His unique approach combines classical orchestration, pop, rock, folk traditions, and field recordings to create immersive soundtracks that serve as a character in the story. With over 150 scored projects and numerous awards, including 13 SOCAN A/V Composer Awards before 30, Spencer's career continues to rise. Outside of film and TV, he arranges orchestral pieces for symphonic metal acts and has contributed to video games like Ubisoft's TOM CLANCY: SHADOWBREAK. He lives in Guelph, Ontario, and enjoys exploring folklore, fantasy literature, and nature.About SYFY's SurrealEstate Season 3 SurrealEstate, which debuted in July 2021 and aired Season 2 in fall 2023, follows real estate agent Luke Roman (played by Wynonna Earp‘s Tim Rozon) and an elite team of specialists that handle the cases no one else can: haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away. Researching, investigating and “fixing” the things that go bump in the night, the team works to create closure — and facilitate closings — even as they struggle with demons of their own. In Season 3, which is set three years after the events of Season 2, real estate agents Luke, Susan and their team continue to help clients buy and sell “metaphysically engaged” properties (aka haunted houses), even as “Luke is stalked by an old, demonic childhood nemesis who threatens him and everyone he cares about… dead or alive.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Springtime brings musical renewal as hosts Matt and Sam curate twelve standout tracks spanning the contemporary music landscape. Their carefully selected mixtape captures everything from Lady Gaga's 80s-inspired dance anthem "Killa" to the tender acoustic stylings of Third Eye Blind's "Like a Lullaby," demonstrating how established artists continue evolving while staying true to their signature sounds. The mixtape delivers unexpected delights like Lexi Liu's reimagining of Le Tigre's "Decepticon," which transforms a 1999 indie classic into a fresh pop gem. Indie rock fans will appreciate the separate appearances of Boy Genius alumni Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, while Queens-based rapper Lil Tecca demonstrates remarkable talent for a 23-year-old who's been creating music since childhood. The mix finishes with a range of songs from the cathartic rage of Dinosaur Pileup to the unity message in The Lathams' "Heartbreaker." The Criticals' remake of their own song "Good Lookin'" years after its original release, and explore how Matt Berninger's solo work compares to his output with The National. What new music are you discovering this spring? We open with a breaking news story from overnight regarding a former campaign staffer for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who self-deported. We then dive into more information about the serious troubles affecting the Democrat donor site ActBlue. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) threw a tantrum over the notion that their actions in the House of ignoring the order of the Speaker to return to order has led to another Representative calling for all participants to be removed from their committees. If there aren't consequences for bad behavior, then they will continue to behave badly. We then move to the Trump administration pulling $400 million in grant funding to Columbia University over their lack of attention in stopping and removing antisemitic protests. Then, during our Vulcan Mind-meld segment, fellow broadcaster, BK from BK on the Air, joins me and we discuss how some people in the movie business are not the creative types and they need to stick to the business side. We then read notes from then MCA President Sid Sheinberg regarding a movie he wanted to call, "Space Man from Pluto." Today we break down the beginnings of his life and his first two albums from the 1960's....both called David Bowie. This was recorded during one of our GothCast Live! streams on YouTube.

When David Bowie wanted to update his sound in the 90s to the drum-n-bass that was popular on the streets, he picked producer/musician Mark Plati to get him there. Mark had come up under the mentorship of the great Arthur Baker and was venturing out on his own. He thinks it was producing Babylon Zoo's "Spaceman" that sealed the deal with Bowie. Mark stuck around for a decade producing albums like Earthling, Hours, and Reality. In addition there's work with the Cure, Duncan Sheik, Prince and many others. Mark's still at it producing and performing. Enjoy! www.mark-plati.com www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod
