Adam Sandler Month continues with Netflix's Spaceman (2024) — a melancholy sci-fi relationship story that caught us off guard. We debate whether the movie sabotages its own Earth storyline early, unpack the Czech/Soviet-futurism aesthetic, rate Sandler's performance, and argue the big question: is Hanush real? Then it's catch-up time: Ace Combat addictions, Falling Skies chaos, Starfield updates, trading card collecting pain, and a depressing movie marathon featuring The Road and Interstellar emotional damage.Next week: The Waterboy.
Immerse yourself in captivating science fiction short stories, delivered daily! Explore futuristic worlds, time travel, alien encounters, and mind-bending adventures. Perfect for sci-fi lovers looking for a quick and engaging listen each day.

Adam Sandler Month begins with Pixels (2015)—a movie we thought we would hate… and somehow didn't.In this episode of Big Trouble in Little Podcast, Andy, Chaz, Joe Dubs, and Zach dive into Adam Sandler's video game invasion comedy Pixels, breaking down why it's contrived, dumb, lowest-common-denominator… yet still oddly entertaining. We debate whether Pixels is a guilty pleasure or just plain bad, argue over Peter Dinklage's performance, laugh (sometimes shamefully) at jokes that feel like they escaped from a better movie, and unpack the film's heavy '80s arcade nostalgia featuring Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, and more.Topics include:Adam Sandler's career arc and why critics turned on himWhy Pixels feels like a “greasy cheeseburger” movieThe best and worst uses of video game fanservicePac-Man in New York, the Donkey Kong finale, and Cubert discourseWhy some “bad movies” are still worth watchingPlus, the crew shares what they've been watching, playing, and obsessing over—including speedrunning, retro games, anime, and more.

In this episode of The Nonprofit Exchange, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Carter Fox, a multifaceted artist and strategist known as "The Soulful Traveling Spaceman Baseman." We explored the valuable lessons that nonprofit leaders can learn from the music business, including the importance of promotion, branding, and strategic planning. Carter shared his journey from a young musician to a savvy entrepreneur, emphasizing the need to understand the business side of music early in his career. He highlighted that promotion is crucial for both musicians and nonprofit organizations, as it helps to amplify their messages and reach wider audiences. We discussed how nonprofits can effectively promote their initiatives and events, drawing parallels to how musicians prepare for album releases and tours. Carter also introduced his book, "Music Business Basics," which provides practical strategies for independent artists and can be applied to nonprofit leadership. We delved into the significance of branding, noting that a logo is just one aspect of a broader brand identity that encompasses mission statements, values, and the overall voice of the organization. Throughout our conversation, we touched on the importance of storytelling and demonstrating impact, as these elements are vital for engaging supporters and donors. Carter's insights on strategic planning resonated deeply, as he emphasized the need for leaders to map out their goals and involve their teams in the process. As we wrapped up, Carter shared his upcoming projects, including a new album and a book exploring the connection between humanity and the cosmos. This episode is packed with actionable advice for nonprofit leaders looking to enhance their impact while staying true to their mission. Thank you for joining us, and I hope you find inspiration in Carter's journey and insights! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week Matt brings his 12 best songs of 2025 to the mix and Sam helps him count them down.We start by turning chaos into rhythm—yes, we joke about measuring chores in “Bruno Mars minutes”—and then dig into the textures that made this list sing. Inhaler brings that recognizable lineage without slipping into pastiche, while Jon Batiste crossfades jazz, soul, R&B, and hip‑hop into one irresistible lift. Raekwon reminds us the music video still matters when artists build worlds worth rewatching, and Julian Baker sharpens the edges of love with metaphors that cut and comfort at once. The Minus 5 becomes this year's deep‑dive rabbit hole, a catalog made for holiday listening sprees.David Byrne, Ghost Train Orchestra, and Hayley Williams pose a deceptively simple question—what is the reason for it?—and answer it with arrangement, rhythm, and surprise. Bad Bunny's “Nueva Yol” doubles as a love letter to New York and a case study in performance as gateway; go watch the SNL set and tell us it doesn't hook you. ROLE MODEL's viral “Sally” bit shows how smart stagecraft fuels repeat plays, while Eric Church centers the theme that ties the hour together: music as a time machine, stitching memories with melodies. Counting Crows deliver a classic storyteller's arc about becoming, and Kacey Musgraves closes the book with a vow that cuts through the noise: if everything falls apart, you were it.Come back next week to hear Sam's Top 12 of 2025!!https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/matts-best-of-2025/pl.u-q6DaTNGyBP1. When his filmmaking career stalled during the pandemic, Toby Lockerbie turned to the one place that had never stopped inspiring him: the Universe. With no background in visual effects, he taught himself the tools needed to transform complex space science into cinematic stories using everyday objects and beautifully crafted visuals to make the Cosmos feel human. His channel, Epic Spaceman, now reaches millions and has earned multiple Webby Awards for its innovative approach to visualizing scale, awe, and accessible science. This week on Planetary Radio, Toby joins host Sarah Al-Ahmed to discuss the creation of Epic Spaceman, how visual metaphors can change how we understand the Universe, and why awe remains one of the most powerful tools for science communication. Then we welcome Bruce Betts back for What’s Up, where we reflect on the end of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Akatsuki mission to Venus. Back in October of 2018, I plugged in with Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Famer Ace Frehley at his hotel suite in Hollywood, California. Having just re-listened to our hour together, I have to say: Wow, it's a cool episode — a great hang, and one that is all the more meaningful now that the Spaceman has passed. To honor Ace's life and music, I am re-posting the episode here for you to re-enjoy. I think you'll find it's a powerful portal through time that puts you in the room with the true rock star and the true New Yorker that was Ace Frehley — the true rock legend who inspired legions of young people to pick up the electric guitar, including many who have gone on to become famous rockers themselves. Here is the show exactly as it ran seven years ago. ———————— ORIGINAL 2018 SHOW NOTES: Founding Kiss lead guitarist ACE FREHLEY, aka "the Spaceman," has released a hard-rocking new solo album called just that — SPACEMAN. Plugging in one of his favorite '59 reissue Les Pauls, Ace sits down with me to jam a little, as well as detail the writing and recording of Spaceman, reflect on reuniting (for two songs) with Gene Simmons, and, of course, look back on his legacy — a wild ride that spanned everything from a youth spent surviving the streets of the Bronx to adult years surviving adventures with the Hall-of-Fame rock band that made him famous. Hope you enjoy it! —JUDE GOLD, host and creator, No Guitar Is Safe

During an interview he confessed that he recently skipped an encore in Louisville so he could catch the end of a Mariners game. https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2025/10/16/im-not-proud-to-admit-this-zach-top-skipped-an-encore-at-a-recent-show-because-he-wanted-to-watch-the-mariners-game/Quote, "I'm not proud to admit this . . . but we had a show the other night, and the crowd wanted an encore. I didn't give them one because I was already sprinting back to my green room to watch the rest of the game."It even went a step further. Zach said, "I had my monitor engineer feeding me score updates in my ears throughout the show."Now that is a diehard fan. The Seattle Mariners are currently tied with the Toronto Blue Jays at two games apiece in the American League Championship Series.
