Does the Bible provide the necessary laws and framework for the proper functioning of civil government? On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume interacts with the idea that theonomists are off-base to claim that the Bible is "sufficient" for politics. Chris explains the two senses in which we use the term "sufficient" in the context of the Bible. He discusses how non-legislative theonomists acknowledge the need for wisdom and prudence in obtaining "new information" to render just verdicts, but insist that the laws given in Scripture are enough (i.e., we do not need new laws).
Luke Saint joins Chris Hume on The Lancaster Patriot Podcast to discuss Pete Hegseth's change of tune concerning women in the military and the importance of speaking about the Lord's regulations before kings and not being ashamed (cf. Ps. 119:46). Then, they answer several questions submitted by listeners about theonomy. Finally, Luke gives some follow-up thoughts on his recent podcast episode where he responded to Dr. Phil Kayser's immigration claims.
Marek Kizer recently posted a video in response to the Saint-Maricle immigration debate in which he critiqued the position of non-legislative theonomy. In the spirit of brotherly debate and edification, Marek joins Chris Hume on this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast to informally debate the idea of establishing justice without a legislative branch. Enjoy what we hope will be the first of many Hume-Kizer dialogues!Watch Marek's original response video: https://youtu.be/SHRgu5R0C5Y?siJDsjEaeIAI5f97 Watch Chris' video about Sen. Joel Webbon recently claimed that theonomists are essentially libertarians (and that libertarians are essentially "libs"). Is this an accurate description of the theonomic position? Or is it a serious straw manning based on using Joel McDurmon as the poster child for theonomy? On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume is joined by Joel Saint, Luke Saint, and Travis Schmalhofer (the boys are back!). Listen as they discuss liberalism, libertarianism, and non-legislative theonomy.

This election season many Trump voters are hoping the Amish in Pennsylvania will help swing the state red. Some commentators have even referenced the Amos Miller story as an example of why the Amish might now be more inclined to get out and vote for the GOP, and specifically Donald Trump. But have Trump and the Republicans stood up for the Amish? It turns out, one of Amos Miller's greatest enemies was a Trump-appointed Republican attorney general committed to pummeling Miller into submission to the Nanny State. In fact, no Republican in the county or state was willing to support Miller. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume shares some of his first-hand knowledge of the Amos Miller story and how it relates to claim that the GOP will help preserve the Amish from prosecution and persecution. The owner of a farm stand in Lancaster County has spent thousands of dollars and lost hours and hours of production due to man-made legislation and regulation (all instituted for the "common good"). A dutiful zoning officer appears to have been monitoring Jesse Smucker's operation for years, and finally informed him that his Smucker's Farm Market was in violation of a local ordinance that limits the sales area to 500 square feet. Though Smucker did not break God's Law or harm his neighbor, he is now enmeshed in statist bureaucracy and costly legal meetings. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume shares this story and discusses the maddening fruit of natural law legislation.
Stephen Wolfe recently released a video response to Brian Zahnd's Christian Voter Guide. In that video, Wolfe does a fine job of critiquing many of Zahnd's claims. In the process, he makes an argument for using civil power for "human good." In this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume plays a clip from Wolfe's video and raises a few points of disagreement with Wolfe (though not in terms of his critiques of Zahnd). Charles Spurgeon once said that the "study of the Psalms has yielded me boundless profit and ever-growing pleasure." And yet, today, many churches avoid singing the Psalms. Shane Heilman is an exception. The leader of The Psalms Project, Shane is about the business of setting all 150 Psalms to modern music. And, most importantly, he refuses to "sanitize" the Psalms. Even the imprecatory psalms are meant to be sung by God's people. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume discusses the psalms with Shane. An Amish farmer in Lancaster County is once again being harassed by state agents for the great crime of offering food outside of the government's approval. This is a battle for freedom and liberty in the face of tyranny. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume is joined by Joel Saint, Travis Schmalhofer, and Luke Saint to address this ongoing story.

Earlier this month, Michael Cassidy, a Mississippi man, took down a Baphomet statue (erected by The Satanic Temple) that was set up inside the Iowa Statehouse. Cassidy said, “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree…and so I acted.” Meanwhile, both Satanists and Republican legislators are decrying Cassidy's actions in the name of “religious freedom.” On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Luke Saint, Matt Kenitzer, Joel Saint, and Chris Hume discuss this ongoing story.
Tom Ascol and Graham Gunden recently interviewed Timothy Decker about his forthcoming book on Romans 13. During that podcast interview, Pastor Gunden claimed that prior to 2020 the issue of disobeying tyrants was "not something that anyone ever talked about...as if this could ever happen in our lifetime." Is Gunden's statement true? And if not, what does that reveal about the ignorance of a pastor like Gunden? And how does that bode for the future? In this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume addresses the fact that pastors like Gunden have been (willfully?) blind to the hundreds and hundreds of Christians who have been resisting American tyrants for many decades prior to 2020. In 2020, when Westminster Presbyterian Church (the largest Reformed church in Lancaster County, PA) cancelled the assembly of the saints, Senior Pastor Chris Walker released a video and written statement explaining "three clear biblical commands guiding our decision not to meet for worship right now." He (and his elders) cancelled the assembly of the saints and appealed to the recommendation of the civil government as support for that decision. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume interacts with Walker's 2020 video and critiques the arguments Walker presented in favor of canceling church for weeks. John MacArthur said it was an “easy call” to shut down the assembly of the saints. Paradoxically, he also claimed that the assembly of the saints is “the most essential of all things.” Then, for months, MacArthur sent a message to his church (and the watching world) that the church was closed. Strangely, some are denying that MacArthur shut down the church. For example, one person wrote, “They never shut down.” Why are people whitewashing the past? Additionally, MacArthur (and hundreds of pastors like him) has not repented of his actions in scattering the sheep. In this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume provides the truth about MacArthur and the suspension of the assembly of the saints.
