Cincinnati Bengals senior defensive assistant coach Mark Duffner joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to analyze the 2024 NFL Combine.  Coach Duffner gets a special opportunity every NFL combine as he gets to workout the players on the field and run them through different individual drills. Coach Duffner gets a up close and personal look at all these prospects and he believes this is one of the most talented classes in recent memory especially the big guys up front on both sides of the ball.  With free agency beginning next week, it will be interesting to see what positions the Bengals address before the draft in late April. He has been a coach in the National Football League for 26 seasons, including serving as Senior Defensive Assistant with the Cincinnati Bengals for the last four seasons.  Previously he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for three seasons, which had been preceded by two years on the coaching staff of the Miami Dolphins, after having spent eight years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.  He also worked with the Green Bay Packers and has come full circle as his NFL coaching career started with Cincinnati in 1997.  Prior to the NFL, he coached 22 years in the college ranks, including 11 as a head coach.  Back in his days as a student-athlete he played college football at William & Mary and would later be inducted into the school's hall of fame.  On the faith side, he will be a speaker later this month at the National Men's Conference.  LISTEN IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW FOR WHAT AT ONE TIME HE WANTED TO BE AT SOME POINT IN HIS LIFE!

Cincinnati Bengals senior defensive assistant coach Mark Duffner has almost seen it all when it comes to football. Having been a longtime college head coach and assistant coach in the NFL since 1987, Duffner is known for his energetic outlook on life on and off the field. The past few seasons Duffner, who is in his second stint with the Bengals, has watched as young players like Joe Burrow, Logan Wilson, Sam Hubbard, and others have stepped forward to make the Bengals into a franchise that expects to win at the highest level. Despite the outcome of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Duffner knows the Bengals have a good taste with their success of the past two seasons,  but also wants more in an ending raising the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Duffner talks about the makeup of the Bengals team, why there is renewed excitement in the air of Cincinnati about the Bengals, and getting ready to attack the NFL Draft and free agency to build the team fans hope can win it all next season. After a playing career at William & Mary, Mark Duffner began a coaching career as a graduate assistant under Ohio State head coach Woody Hayes for two seasons before making his first stop in Cincinnati as defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bearcats (1977-1980). After becoming a head coach at the college level for 16 seasons, Duffner returned to the Queen City to start a 25-year coaching career in the NFL starting as a linebackers coach (1997-2000) and defensive coordinator (2001-2002) for the Cincinnati Bengals and with stops in Green Bay, Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa Bay before rejoining the Bengals in 2019 as a senior defensive assistant coach.
