A single word from an ancient prophet can unmask the stories we tell ourselves about success. We open Habakkuk 2:6–14 and confront three devastating “woes” that speak to our age; wealth taken at the expense of others, security propped up by pride, and cities built on injustice. The imagery is unforgettable; possessions are thick clay, clinging to our lives, burdening our minds, and isolating us from God and neighbor. When comfort becomes a god, the upkeep never ends, and the conscience never rests. We trace how consequences return to the doorstep of the wrongdoer—not as superstition, but as moral symmetry in a world watched by a just God. Even the beams and stones, Habakkuk says, testify against empires built by blood. That line pushes us past private choices into public ethics; wages, labor, exploitation, and the systems that look sturdy until truth shakes their foundations. Along the way, we wrestle with practical questions; how do we keep resources from becoming idols? What habits move us away from those idols? Generosity? Confession? Service? Where can we improve and choose integrity over advantage? The final movement lifts our eyes. While vanity burns out, a better future rises; the earth filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as waters cover the sea. That promise does not dull responsibility; it energizes it.We choose to build what lasts; honest work, merciful leadership, and communities anchored in justice and humility.Join us as we pray, reflect, and make space for God to realign our loves, lighten our load, and turn our clay into tools for His good.If this speaks to you, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review to help others find the message.=======Habakkuk 2:6-14King James Version6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?8 Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.9 Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!10 Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.11 For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.12 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!13 Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.Send us a textBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. In this episode of Quakers Today, co-hosts Sweet Miche (they/them) and Peterson Toscano (he/him) explore the impact of affinity groups and how they provide a space for community and spiritual nourishment. Affinity Spaces: A Sacred Necessity African American Friends Vanessa Julye and Curtis Spence speak from the heart about why affinity spaces are sacred. Vanessa, Associate Secretary for Organizational Cultural Transformation at Friends General Conference, and Curtis, a writer and minister, share how these groups offer "soul rest," a place to breathe, and an opportunity to be fully seen without constantly centering polite white supremacy (PWS). Vanessa credits Yawo Brown as the originator of the phrase, “polite white supremacy.” “I didn't join a BIPOC Quaker affinity group because I had something to teach. I joined because I needed to breathe.” — Curtis Spence “If there is a BIPOC person within Quakerism looking for a place where they can have more connections with other BIPOC people, there are resources out there... I hope there comes a time when we can stop justifying affinity spaces.” — Vanessa Julye You'll hear excerpts from their influential articles in the October 2025 issue of Friends Journal: Vanessa Julye, Affinity Spaces for BIPOC Friends: Healing from Polite White Supremacy Together [link to article at FriendsJournal.org] Curtis Spence, We Gather to Affinity Worship and the Light That Disrupts [link to article at FriendsJournal.org] Extended Conversation: Watch the full video conversation with Vanessa Julye and Curtis Spence on the Friends Journal YouTube channel. She connects the spiritual dilemma of loving one's neighbor with the urgent realities of the climate crisis, highlighting how environmental racism creates a shared, though unequal, stake in the fight for a habitable world. “I boiled down my dilemma to a challenging theological question: How do I love my neighbor when he is killing my other neighbors?” — Eileen Flanagan Learn more about Eileen, her tour, and her writing at EileenFlanagan.com. Hello! Here is this months Podcasts Episode.Big thanks to Rachana who came on and brought some great questions. We hope you find it valuable.
In this episode of Faith Over Fear, Carol sits down with pastor and author Kyle Idleman to talk about the battle in our minds. Kyle reminds us that our thoughts often lie to us—and if we don’t learn to take them captive, they can spiral into fear, shame, or hopelessness. Together, we discuss how to trace our fears back to root lies, discern truth from deception, and recognize the difference between conviction and condemnation. Kyle shares practical tools to challenge toxic thoughts, the role of Scripture as our weapon, and what it looks like to win small daily victories that lead to lasting transformation. Whether you’re new to the idea of spiritual warfare in the mind or you’ve wrestled with strongholds for years, this conversation will encourage you that change is possible. With God’s Word, you’re not just managing your thoughts—you’re renewing them. Resource referenced: Every Thought Captive: Calm the Mental Chaos That Keeps You Stuck, Drains Your Hope, and Holds You Back by Kyle Idleman Discussion/Reflective Questions: What lie have you believed about yourself or your circumstances that God is inviting you to confront? When anxious thoughts spiral, what first step could you take to trace them back to a root lie? How can you recognize when a thought that “sounds wise” is actually pulling you away from God’s truth? What practice could help you decide which thoughts deserve “a seat at the table” in your mind—and which don’t? Which Scripture has most powerfully reshaped your thinking, and how can you internalize it more deeply? Where do you need to move from simply managing thoughts to actually renewing your mind with God’s truth? What is one action step God might be inviting you to take having listened to this episode? AT&T aims to maintain a lead in the US fiber market to sustain growth as its core wireless business slows. In this episode of Tech Disruptors, Jeff McElfresh, Chief Operating Officer of AT&T, speaks with Bloomberg Intelligence analyst John Butler about the company's plan to expand its base to more than 60 million locations by 2030, from just over 30 million today. They also discuss how solid planning and execution have helped the company to sustain steady subscriber gains in its wireless business amid rising competition and fierce pricing pressure.
This past Sunday, we continued in Mark 13:14–23. Jesus is never caught off guard by our difficult circumstances—He sees them, knows them, and calls us to trust Him through them. We were reminded to stay alert and discerning, especially against false messiahs and distorted versions of Christianity that promise glory without suffering. He will hold us fast. Give your life to Christ and walk in the joy and security of His love. Give your life to the world, and you'll find only anxiety and emptiness. Church, take heart—He loves us, and He will return for us.

We live at the mercy of our ideas—so what happens when those ideas are distorted, deceptive, or outright false? Tim unpacks how lies about God, ourselves, and the world can hold us captive—and how the truth of Jesus brings freedom and lasting transformation.

In this episode, we sit down with Jillian Henry — a passionate community builder, director of marketing at the Renaissance Theatre, and president of the board at Love On A Mission — to talk about what it means to become a parent, a friend, and a fully-formed human on your own terms. Jillian shares her experience navigating first-time motherhood in her 30s, building inclusive communities outside of traditional spaces, and why friendship can be just as powerful as family. We talk about ambition, identity shifts, chosen support systems, and what it takes to live a life rooted in purpose — even when it doesn’t look like the one you imagined. Somewhere between work, caretaking, and just trying to make it through the week without losing your mind, friendship starts to feel... complicated, or like another to do? Not because we don't want connection — but because life is loud, we're overwhelmed or tired or trying to make it through the day. And do you feel like there's a constant time deficit? This is an episode that is more like a journal entry where I share some of my latest life outtakes and friendship moments, how a soul-nourishing weekend with a long time friend reminded me of what really matters — and how sharing our mess can bring us even closer. Vulnerability can feel scary, awkward, but also wildly freeing. I also open up about navigating anxiety, burnout, and that dreaded “time scarcity” that seems to hit especially hard after 40. And if you're also feeling off physically — low energy or just not yourself — I mention my amazing friend and health coach, Olya Clark, who helped me customize a plan to support my hormones and minerals and lifestyle. Seriously, she's a godsend. Connect with her at www.olyaclark.com You're not alone. Promise. Xo,Baiba

Love isn't meant to be conditional, especially when it comes to our understanding of how God loves us. But this episode's guest—pastor, author, and podcaster Luke Norsworthy—says we're far too normalized to the idea that love is contingent upon how we practice our faith, obey, and function in general. On this episode, Norsworthy and Cuss talk about whether or not the phrase “unconditional love” is redundant. They consider how family language can be misused and what it might look like to become more integrated in our lives. They talk about the parable of the prodigal son, what it is to be acquainted with grief as a believer, and how to process disappointment. Their conversation also covers celebrity pastors, loneliness, and the value of vulnerability. The Expectation Gap by Steve Cuss is now available—order here! “Did you have integrity today?” That's the question that Steve Carter, author, podcaster, and former lead teaching pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, pictured his son asking him when allegations of sexual harassment against Bill Hybels emerged. Carter realized he couldn't go “play church.” He had to take the allegations seriously and act with integrity, which, for him, looked like resigning. On this episode of Being Human, Cuss and Carter discuss what it looks like to have integrity when mentors and institutions fail us. They talk about the heartbreak of losing beloved communities, navigating relationships when people feel betrayed, and how difficult it is to see broken systems when inside them. Carter shares how he has dealt with the weight of being misunderstood, the way some of his highest values were wielded against him, and what it was like to deal with public loss and accusation as an Enneagram Three. He and Cuss talk about the power of the resurrection and the two Greek words that became an anchor for Carter. And they discuss what propelled Carter to write Grieve, Breathe, Receive—a stunning memoir on grief and healing that recounts Carter leaving Willow Creek Church, entering a wilderness season, and enduring loss upon loss upon loss, from income and reputation to precious family members and more. Manny and Mike get together and weigh the heft of their social impact. So so many corporations singing the praises of the individual effort. Keeping a green home to do your part. While that is well and good, its not the practice of those companies doing feel-good ads about their single-use plastic wrapped device with a planned obsolescence based expiration date. As we witness more of Jesus' interaction with the religious leaders in today's passage, Pastor Ulysses helps to expand on the implications of this dialogue, echoing Jesus' call to respond to the many signs he has shown and hear the voice of the Good Shepherd.

There have been messages we grew up with that dont only NOT serve us, but truly HOLD US, not only back but in a confusing loop. My guest Jenny McGrath (MA, LMHC, SEP) is a national researcher on Purity Culture looking at the subjective experience of white women and women of color and the intersections of colonialism, racism through sexism and sexual oppression. Its a heavy conversation but so so needed. This is ultimately about reframing our connection to our own bodies, our stories of belonging and opening ground for greater levels of compassion for ourselves and for the collective. In todayʻs episode we talk about the disconnection with our bodies, based in cultural and societal stories, and the invitation to value our own autonomy and past experiences to learn our own truths and give space for others to own theirs. You can connect with Jenny here: https://www.instagram.com/indwell_movement/https://www.indwellmovement.com/embodied-sexualityI hope this episode serves you, even if it isnʻt your lived experience. S3E14: Is there an exact age or level when a person becomes accountable to God for their sins? The Bible teaches us that when we are born, we are innocent and without sin. With this question being one of the most common questions people ask, let's try our best to break it down by using the comforting Words of God.
