South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile, in an interview with FRANCE 24's Georja Calvin-Smith, denied President Donald Trump's claims of a “white genocide” in South Africa. Responding to Trump's scheme to welcome white South Africans to the US as refugees, Mashatile said, “If they want to be refugees, it's their business. But they can't bad-mouth the country.” Pretoria is also looking to expand its diplomatic ties with Paris. Mashatile said that while relations with the US are positive and valued, Africa's powerhouse isn't putting all its eggs in one basket.
In this episode of the BizNews Briefing, Bronwyn Nielsen tracks President Cyril Ramaphosa's high-stakes visit to Washington for his meeting with Donald Trump. With tensions running high, analysts warn against lecturing the US president, advising instead a strategic, focused approach. We hear from retired US intelligence officer Chris Wyatt, the Hudson Institute's Joshua Meservey, and the Brenthurst Foundation on what's at stake. Plus, Deputy President Paul Mashatile urges farmers at NAMPO to stay the course in South Africa.

In today's BizNews Briefing, Alec Hogg unpacks a wave of major developments - from ASP Isotopes' remarkable rise from Pelindaba labs to NASDAQ and a pending JSE debut, to the DA's renewed push to oust Johannesburg's mayor. He also covers the uproar over Deputy President Mashatile's bodyguards, Afrikaners seeking asylum in the US, and promising investment insights featuring Pick n Pay, Boxer, Apple and Disney. Plus, signs of a thaw in US-China trade tensions and the local implications.
Ian Cameron, the Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, has been the target of a virulent attack by The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) for labelling as “thugs” Deputy President Paul Mashatile's VIP Protection officers who were involved in a “brutal” assault on “innocent” civilians next to the N1 in Johannesburg in 2023 - but were acquitted following an internal disciplinary hearing - despite video evidence. “In a parliamentary context, as part of my constitutional duty to do oversight, I'm not going to allow any union to make me look or seem or feel like just being a rubber stamp that needs to simply approve anything they say or do. There's something very wrong with the process that was followed here and it's critical for us to dissect it.” As for the mysterious deaths of four police officers whose bodies were found in the Hennops River recently, Cameron says: “I do find it suspicious, and it's not to cast doubt on any part of an investigation or anything like that, but it is an extraordinary kind of event….So it would be very interesting to understand more of the depth and context as to what exactly those members were involved with.” Cameron also gives an update on the biggest issues his committee is currently grappling with, including the proposed regulatory amendments of PSiRA that “in essence mean that in a very arbitrary way, a security company can lose its function overnight”.
In his latest Sunday Show, Neil De Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM) gives BizNews viewers his take on Deputy President Paul Mashatile's pledge to protect the R100 billion Transformation Fund from corruption, the acquittal of his VIP Protection Officers of assault in an internal police disciplinary hearing - despite video evidence; POPCRU's call for Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Ian Cameron to be removed as the Chairperson of the Police Portfolio Committee because he called these bodyguards “thugs”. De Beer casts a Vote of No Confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa following his launch of the second phase of Operation Vulindlela. “He cannot deliver… if you…look at the past 10 years where this man has basically had the reign of this country, it's a disaster.” De Beer laments the “mass economic emigration” of South Africans, not just Afrikaners poised to leave for America in the coming days. Meanwhile, he vows to stay in South Africa - with a call to remove the African National Congress (ANC), “this treacherous government, and the people that continue to slaughter the carcass of such a good country” by beating them at the ballot box. “…we can't go on like this; it's not possible”.
There has been quite an outcry following the acquittal of eight SAPS VIP Protection Unit officers attached to Deputy President Paul Mashatile, following an internal SAPS disciplinary process.. The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for a comprehensive review of the South African Police Service's internal disciplinary regulations following the acquittal of Deputy President Paul Mashatile's VIP protectors. The officers were caught on video assaulting civilians, yet an internal SAPS disciplinary committee found no wrongdoing. Although a court case against the eight VIP Protection Officers is still ongoing, the DA insists that no one is above the law.Elvis Presslin spoke to Lesiba Thobakgale, Spokesperson of the South African Policing Union (SAPU)...
Lester Kiewit speaks to Ian Cameron, the chair of the portfolio committee on police, who says he will be approaching the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner to demand an explanation for the acquittal by SAPS of eight VIP unit members who were filmed assaulting members of the public on the N1.
In the latest edition of The Sunday Show, Neil De Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), slams President Cyril Ramaphosa attempts at “peacemaking” between Russia and Ukraine, saying he “couldn't even keep peace in the GNU” and “can't even keep his NEC together”. As for his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump, De Beer says: “Trump's got balls. Cyril's got none. Hy het rosyntjies. (He has raisins)”. De Beer describes the alleged assasination attempt on Deputy President Paul Mashatile as “shooting a full-grown elephant bull on the backside, on the ass, with a pellet gun”. He also looks at the current state of the GNU; does a post-mortem on the VAT “fiasco; dissects the spin and bluster put out by African National Congress (ANC) SG Fikile Mbalula; and laughs off the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) call for the fall of Oriana, saying “…they couldn't even do the fall of Brackenfell”. De Beer also uses the latest cases of corruption - and “an animalistic attitude towards gluttony” - to rally a taxpayers' revolt: “…can you imagine one morning, a citizens national group of more than 10 million…decide: No more money. No more funding”.
John Maytham is joined by Mbasa Mvenene, Political scientist and Lecturer at Walter Sisulu University, to unpack the increasingly visible campaign by Deputy President Paul Mashatile for the ANC’s top position. The conversation begins with the suspicious timing and limited disclosure around the alleged shooting incident involving Mashatile’s motorcade, an event only made public weeks later, over the Easter weekend.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile says the defiant DA's fate in the government of national unity (GNU) will be determined by the end of Monday.
In the latest Sunday Show with Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), speaks about Budget negotiations threatening the Government of National Unity (GNU) as Deputy President Paul “Slimy” Mashatile is rumoured to be leading talks with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for support that would see the Democratic Alliance (DA) left out in the cold. De Beer laments everything in South South Africa that is “moer toe", including SOEs, municipalities and the SANDF. He talks about the US' latest strike against South Africa, and reveals how he would fix the SANDF; but says SOEs, ‘which there is no more saving of”, should be sold off to the private sector. Meanwhile, he counts on next year's municipal elections to produce new leadership to save bankrupt, non-performing municipalities as the ANC appears incapable of self-correcting. “They have shown themselves not capable and they have had 30 years of trying to be capable and they have absolutely not performed… if the saving of the ANC in the short term has now been the destruction of the country in the long term…That is another debate to be had.” He also gives his take on the Constitutional Court's decision not to hear AfriForum's appeal that chanting “Kill the Boer” is not hate speech - and calls on South Africans to be more sensitive on what is socially acceptable.
In his latest Sunday Show with BizNews, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement, begs billionaire Elon Musk to put African National Congress (ANC) SG Fikile Mbalula in rocket and send him to another planet because “everything he says is absolutely nonsensical”. He predicts a hard fall for Johannesburg “kryptonite” Mayor Dada Marrero, who is under fire for using “influencers” as praise singers to cover up for poor service delivery in the decaying city of Egoli. He speculates that the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) reconsideration of its decision not to take a fraud and perjury case against Deputy President Paul Mashatile to trial, could be a way to take him out of the running for President. He once again warns that former president Jacob Zuma's MKP should not be underestimated - this time after his party got a foothold in the Western Cape by taking Middelpos from the ANC with 44% in last week's by-election. De Beer also comments on the Battle for the Budget that will have to be fought line item by line item. Lastly, he speaks about the SANDF's planned withdrawal from the DRC - and gives the backstory of the wings that have disappeared from our top general's chest.
In his keynote address at BNC#7 in Hermanus, South Africa's Deputy President Paul Mashatile unpacked the ongoing efforts of the nation's Government of National Unity (GNU). Reflecting on the nation's economic journey, he outlined the Government of National Unity's (GNU) ambitious plans to tackle poverty, inequality, and unemployment through structural reforms, inclusive growth, and job creation. From land reform to combating corruption and navigating global trade challenges, Mashatile emphasized collaboration across sectors to build a prosperous, equitable South Africa by 2030 and beyond. Following his speech, Deputy President Mashatile engaged in a lively Q&A session with BizNews founder Alec Hogg. Addressing leadership challenges, he emphasized the strength of the GNU through open dialogue and compromise. Mashatile staunchly defended constitutional freedoms, dismissed speculation about aligning with radical parties, and outlined efforts to combat corruption and boost economic growth. From Gauteng's revival to coalition lessons from the 2024 elections, he underscored a people-first approach to transform South African lives.
In the latest Sunday Show with BizNews, Neil De Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), rages about “the ultimate embarrassment and shame” of South Africa's Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool getting expelled from the United States for race-baiting. “… this is while he's sitting in the USA, where he is, no doubt, one of the few people that…needs to calm this American fire that's burning…Well, he just blew it.” De Beer also dissects the speeches of some of the top speakers at the past week's BizNews Conference: He slams Deputy President Paul Mashatile for speaking about fighting corruption with dockets hanging over his own head. “When you speak in that manner, you have to have credibility…Heaven forbid he does become the Number One.” De Beer has rare praise for Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie as “one of the loudest flag-wavers” of the Government of National Unity (GNU). “I'll tell you after again seeing him, his speech and his enlightenment of the crowd, I might start to like Gayton McKenzie.” De Beer hails the Democratic Alliance's (DA's) Helen Zille for delivering the payload with her opening address in which she spoke about the challenges of being in the GNU. “But…she echoed many a sentiment: this is the only option that we have.” De Beer also shares his theory that the State's increased “focus” on certain outspoken personalities could have led to billionaire Rob Hersov not coming out “firebrand, accusational and lightning” in his speech as usual. “He nearly became a diplomat…Anti-ANC as always, pro-GNU, but very calm. Maybe a once-in-a-lifetime delivery.”
In the first Sunday Show of 2025, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), comments on the opening moves of 2025 by politicians like President Cyril Ramaphosa, Vice President Paul Mashatile, former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and US President-Elect Donald Trump. Dissecting President Ramaphosa's speech this weekend, De Beer concludes that “the ANC is starting to face reality - and stark reality”. He slams Vice President Mashatile's “absolute idiotic move” to accuse the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape of having no regard for the poor while standing in front of a rubbish heap in an ANC's councillor's ward. De Beer, who is also a Councillor in the City of Cape Town, describes how the City sometimes has to send the police to escort its rubbish trucks. De Beer weighs in on the big loss to the EFF of the “great mind” of Dr. Ndlozi who was “the wind that was carrying the EFF air” in Parliament. De Beer also marvels at US President-Elect Donald Trump's survival of yet another legal challenge to head for his second inauguration - and warns that South Africa's Government of National Unity (GNU) should notbe surprised if America said “we do not like your stance in the Middle East and we do not like what you have done - and you will have pressure from us to change your attitude”.
VIP police have rushed to protect to Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, following an altercation with a community member during his door-to-door campaign in Khayelitsha today. Reports indicate that a man claiming to own the house Mashatile was visiting, demanded that the Deputy President and his entourage vacate the premises immediately. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to SABC reporter, Zalene Merrington, who witnessed incident
Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has described 2024 as an important year for South Africans as the country celebrated 30 years of democracy. Mashatile delivered the comments in his Christmas message to the nation. While marking 30 years of democracy this year, South Africans also headed to the polls which saw the ANC lose its majority for the first time since 1994. Mashatile also highlighted the scourge of gender-based violence, the impact of drinking and driving and the high cost of living in his Christmas message
In this episode of the Sunday Show with BizNews, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), slams Deputy President Paul Mashatile for not declaring a diamond gifted to his wife by Ponzi accused Louis Liebenberg; warns that Democratic Alliance Federal Chair Helen Zille knows where's the nuclear button to implode the Government of National Unity (GNU); and calls President Cyril Ramaphosa “spineless, gutless” and without backbone,”watermelons” and “rugby balls” for redeploying Minister Thembi Simelane. Discussing the deportation this weekend of the killer of former South African Communist Party (SACP) leader Chris Hani, De Beer comments on speculation that it was an “inside job” and that some members of the African National Congress (ANC) were part of a plot to use the Right Wing to dispose of him. He also expresses outrage over the costly training of Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi's “AmaPanyaza” who are “suddenly goose-stepping in the format of Russia and of China”. As for the R90 billion rand municipal debt to ESKOM, De Beer warns: “if we don't get corporate, economic, soluble good governance in the municipal areas, we are dead. We are not going to make it.”
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has warned South Africans against registering businesses for illegal foreigners, asking authorities to act against such actions. Mashatile said the government wanted South Africans to own most shops.
In this latest Sunday Show with Neil De Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM) identifies former President Jacob Zuma as the politician who holds the most aces in the “dirty tricks department” of hidden scandals involving other politicians. “…he always uses the security conclave and the intelligence scenario. And that's why he's always one ahead…I don't think there's people that can counter MK at this moment on that deep dark level.” Analysing the appointment of Floyd Shivambu as the MKP's Secretary General, De Beer says: “He's going to solidify them. But at the same time, make no mistake, he's also going to kill EFF.” De Beer dissects the possible motive behind Deputy President Paul Mashatile's stance that the Government of National Unity (GNU) would survive a Democratic Alliance (DA) exit. He also lists the politicians in the African National Congress (ANC) Top 7 whom he believes are indictable and impeachable. And he describes how the flaunting of laws have created two current national crises.
In this edition of NewsWrap from BizNews, we delve into critical updates on the US elections and expose troubling political interference within the South African Police Service, alongside urgent insights into Johannesburg's declining infrastructure. Former DA leader Mmusi Maimane critiques the DA-ANC coalition for missed reform opportunities, while UIM President Neil De Beer labels Deputy President Paul Mashatile's land policy a distraction from corruption allegations. Finally, Pick n Pay CEO Sean Summers shares an optimistic outlook on the company's strategic partnership with FNB. Tune in for all the highlights!
On this edition of the Sunday Show on BizNews, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement, says Deputy President Paul Mashatile - who has reaffirmed government's commitment to expropriation of land without compensation - should be hauled before court on “terrible” charges of corruption; examines the possible reasons behind the dropping of a corruption charge against former Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa and lists several other cases that have been withdrawn - despite “tantamount evidence”. He gives his verdict on the war of words between ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba and political economist Phumlani M. Majozi over social media posts by the latter - and explains why he believes they are both in the wrong. He also vows to get the inside story on an apparently leaked Helen Zille video about “the ANC's manipulation (in GNU negotiations), apparently to keep international relationships and international ministries going because that's where they get most of their stuff”. Furthermore, De Beer comments on the election outcomes in Botswana - where the ruling party was peacefully ousted after 58 years in power - and in Mozambique where unrest has broken out over Frelimo's alleged rigging of the election - amid rumours that Swapo could lose the next election in Namibia.

In his latest Sunday Show with BizNews, United Independent Movement President Neil de Beer gives his take on the political dramas of the past week: Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen's failed blackmail attempt of President Cyril Ramaphosa over the signing of the BELA Bill, and having to get rid of his Chief of Staff; Deputy President Paul Mashatile's public collapse, possibly because of food poisoning, and many ANC supporters clamouring for Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to take his place; the torrents of opposing sentiment unleashed by the death of former Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his controversial legacy. He also speaks about how Economic Freedom Fighters CIC Julius Malema is being politically slaughtered by former President Jacob Zuma's MKP. And before he weighs in on the latest Presidential debate in the US, De Beer names the Flop of the Week and the Hero of the Week.
Mashatile sê voedselsekerheid is belangrik.
A bumper episode features a spread of news on the political economy and business, seeded with developments on AI and the free speech debate - plus a cameo with a windswept mayor of the best municipality in the Western Cape. This weekly show is produced by the BizNews team, and hosted by editor Alec Hogg.
With the Government of National Unity having been in power for over two months already, BizNews asked Dr. Ina Gouws of the Department of Political Studies and Governance at Free State University for her impressions. She dissects the early achievements of the GNU as well as the coalition chaos at provincial and municipal level. She doesn't think there's “a better strategist” than Vice President Paul Mashatile “in terms of moving himself and maneuvering himself into certain positions and being able to find himself in the right place at the right time for his own sake.” Analysing the defection of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu to MK were he is now the National Organiser, she says” “His hatred that he displayed in Parliament of Jacob Zuma and what he's done seemingly disappeared at a moment where opportunity was given to him to maybe take up that position. And maybe he has ambitions to one day lead MK or lead this grand leftist progressive coalition to challenge the Government of National Unity…” Meanwhile, she feels it is just a matter of time before the African National Congress (ANC) “reigns in” the GNU-defiant Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi. As for Herman Mashaba's ActionSA getting into bed with the ANC in Joburg, she comments: “What they are willing to do on local level and willing to tolerate and willing to protect even for seemingly the sake of just keeping the DA out…”
