The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has formally withdrawn fraud and corruption charges against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo, Brigadier Dineo Mokwele and five others in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court. The decision to withdraw the charges follows evidence and developments before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that appeared to undermine the State’s case. How India Is Ending Naxal Terror | The Untold Strategy Behind the Final Crackdown FT. Tuhin Sinha

Every nation has a story, but some chapters are written in blood. For decades, India fought an enemy that didn't wear a uniform - an ideology that spread through forests, cities and silence, in one of the longest internal-security battles in the country's history. Roshan Cariappa sits down with Tuhin A. Sinha - BJP National Spokesperson, author of 14 books, and now the writer of a comprehensive new book "Naxal Terror Vanquished: The Long War against Maoism, and the Doctrine That Ended It." This book discusses how India confronted and pushed back Naxal terror. We've had Tuhin on the show before - last time, to talk delimitation, the women's reservation bill and the coalition arithmetic of the Monsoon Session. This time the conversation turns to something bigger and bloodier. His starting point is a memory gap: Gen Z and Gen Alpha never saw this threat at its peak, and the country readjusted so fast that few remember how bad it got. In 2010 alone, over a thousand people were killed in Naxal violence - 74 CRPF jawans ambushed at Dantewada, and the Gyaneshwari Express sabotaged in West Bengal, killing 150. This, he argues, was never a "socio-economic problem" - it was an out-and-out terror movement. From there the conversation traces the full arc: the origins in Naxalbari in 1967, the role of "urban Naxals" in supplying funds and arms, the Salwa Judum movement and the price its leaders paid, and the turnaround that followed - the convergence of security agencies across a seven-state Red Corridor, the surrender-and-rehabilitation policy, Operation Kagar's final push, and the development story behind it. Tuhin's central claim is a bold one: that Naxalism has been pushed to the brink of extinction. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - The enemy that didn't wear a uniform 01:20 - Welcome back to Bharatvaarta 02:08 - How serious a threat was Naxalism, really? 03:06 - Dantewada & the Gyaneshwari Express: how deadly it got 04:36 - When a leader calls a Naxal his role model 05:10 - Where it began: Naxalbari, 1967 06:30 - How it evolved - students, Bihar & caste 08:05 - The UPA years: scrapping POTA & the NAC 08:36 - Salwa Judum, and the myth about tribal support 11:37 - Struck down: the fresh wave of violence & the leaders killed 12:54 - Why "socio-economic problem" was a fatal misreading 13:47 - Urban Naxals: the supply of funds and arms 17:52 - What this government did differently 20:26 - The surrender & rehabilitation policy 21:16 - Operation Kagar: the final phase 22:45 - Bastar Olympics & bringing fighters into the mainstream 24:46 - Development as the closing chapter: Modi for tribals 26:02 - Will Naxalism ever return?

1985: Rajiv Gandhi says 15 paise of every rupee actually reaches the poor. 2009: Rahul Gandhi puts the number at 5%. Twenty-four years apart, same party, and by their own accounting the leak had got worse. That pair of numbers is where this conversation lands in its final minutes, and Tuhin A. Sinha uses it to make a much larger argument: that the question of who is anti-youth in Indian politics has a fairly specific answer, and it isn't the one the Opposition has been giving. Roshan Cariappa sits down with Tuhin - BJP National Spokesperson and author of 14 books - days before a Monsoon Session that Tuhin calls the most consequential in a very long time. Two bills are on the table: delimitation and women's reservation. His case for why delimitation is the youth story nobody is telling: the last exercise was in 1975. India now has roughly 97 crore voters and 543 Lok Sabha seats, which means each MP represents about 17 lakh people - the highest ratio anywhere in the world. Raise the seat count by 50% and that falls to around 11 lakh. But the number Tuhin cares about is the other one: hundreds of new constituencies means hundreds of openings for people who do not come from political families. Which is precisely, he argues, why the dynastic parties are petrified of it. Roshan also asks the question currently nation wants to know - the mistrust around engineered defections, the ED and CBI asymmetry, the "washing machine" charge, whether the BJP can still call itself a party with a difference while absorbing MPs it once called corrupt, and whether all of this is legal in letter but hollow in spirit. Tuhin's answers are direct, and on the corruption question notably unsqueamish: sometimes to achieve a good objective, you take a path that isn't impeccable. Also in here: why the two bills are deliberately being moved together, how 74 women MPs could become 273 seats, why the April bill fell 54 votes short, Amit Shah's one-hour challenge across the floor of the House, the North-South penalty argument, Vajpayee's 1996 resignation speech, and what 2029 actually gets fought on. Whether you find him persuasive or want to argue with every second answer, it's a sharper 41 minutes than a TV panel gives you in a month. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS (00:00) - Reconnecting (00:35) - Why this Monsoon Session is the most consequential in years (01:08) - Delimitation explained: 1975, 97 crore voters, 17 lakh per MP (02:27) - "A once-in-a-lifetime opening for youth who aren't from political families" (03:13) - Why delimitation and women's reservation are being moved together (04:45) - Falling 54 votes short in April, and what has changed since (06:24) - Amit Shah's one-hour challenge across the floor (07:11) - Why dynastic parties fear a bigger, younger Lok Sabha (08:54) - The North-South question: are southern states being penalised? (10:33) - Women's representation: from 74 MPs to 273 seats (13:55) - Roshan steelmans the Opposition: the defections problem (17:54) - The "washing machine" charge, and Tuhin's reversal of it (18:38) - "Is the BJP still a party with a difference?" (22:44) - The anti-defection law: conscience vs. the whip (26:28) - Congress Mukt Bharat, or Opposition Mukt Bharat? (27:37) - Why the INDIA bloc's 2024 momentum evaporated (30:15) - Rahul Gandhi, Putin, Macron and the Rafale claim (35:26) - What 2029 gets fought on (39:38) - The number this episode ends on: 15% in 1985, 5% in 2009

ActionSA says it has laid criminal charges against President Cyril Ramaphosa in connection with the Phala Phala farm burglary. The party says the charges relate to alleged contraventions of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, as well as accusations of perjury and fraud. These claims centre on the alleged concealment or underreporting of the amount of money stolen during the 2020 burglary at the President's Limpopo farm. The Presidency has previously denied wrongdoing in relation to the matter, while various law enforcement and oversight bodies continue to face scrutiny over how the case has been handled. We spoke to Lerato Ngobeni, ActionSA Parliamentary Chief Whip and National Spokesperson to unpack the basis of these charges and what they hope will come from the legal process.

Action Society' first Criminal Justice Trust Indicator shows that public confidence in justice has collapsed to 4 out 100. In this interview with Chris Steyn, Action Society's National Spokesperson, Juanita Du Preez says the score of four out of 100 should be such a wake up call for the whole criminal justice system. “People do not believe that if a crime is committed against them, they will get justice. So we have a skewed picture of crime happening in the country because it's not reported because people believe there will be no justice. So we can think it's getting better, but it's actually just getting more underreported. And that is very, very worrying.” Du Preez outlines the goal of the survey, the key findings, and a practical reform agenda. “So it's a complete system overall that we need, and we believe decentralising it so that we can do public-private partnerships is the first tangible thing to be implemented - and it will bring results.”

And we talk a lot on the pod about what makes a party succeed.  I want to dive into: What breaks a Party ... with specific reference to Canada's NDP.Given the dismal results of the last election is the NDP facing bankruptcy to the point their existence is threatened? What kind of resources does a party need these days for a fully funded modern campaign? How does the NDP come back from their debt, without having official Party status? Should they even try or just fold and let a new party emerge? And what does this mean for the CPC, who need a strong party on the Left?Full disclosure here: I'm banking on Fred being able to talk about the reality of the NDP's predicament in a way that most NDP folks can't, or won't, right now.Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. On this week's motivation monday, I'm talking to Alison Arngrim.  New York Times Best Selling author of Confessions of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, Alison Arngrim is best known to viewers world-wide for her portrayal of the incredibly nasty “Nellie Oleson” on the much loved, long running hit television series Little House On The Prairie, and continues to amuse audiences through her many film, television, stage and multi-media appearances. Her one woman show Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, which started at Club Fez in New York in 2002, has now become a world-wide phenomenon, having been performed to packed houses in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle, and in France, where Arngrim performs entirely in French to standing room only crowds in her all-French version titled: Confessions d'une Garce de La Prairie and La Malle aux Tresors de Nellie Oleson. As a stand-up comedian, Arngrim has headlined at nightclubs such as the Laugh Factory, the Comedy Store and the Improv in Los Angeles; as well as the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York and assorted comedy venues across the United States and Canada. She is currently starring in two comedy series pilots: Life Interrupted, as the ex-wife of commercial child star Mason Reese, with Erin Murphy, (“Bewitched”) as her new wife and Dawn Wells, (“Gilligan's Island), as her mother, as well as, C.P.R. – Child Performers Resurrection Talent Agency, as an ex-child star gone wrong, trying to save herself and her assorted misfit cohorts by opening a talent agency. Arngrim has mocked her status as an “ex-child star” on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, during their month-long parody, “Hollywood Survivor” and continues to be a frequent interview subject on everything from A&E, “E! Entertainment, TV Land and VH-1, to CNN and the Travel Channel. The TV Land network honored her undying image as TV's worst bitch, by declaring her the winner of their 2006 award for, “Character Most Desperately In Need Of A Time Out.” She starred in the heartwarming, gay, Christmas cult classic, Make the Yuletide Gay, as the overbearing “Heather Mancuso.” Her other television and film appearances include, Livin' the Dream, Tinder & Grinder, The Bilderberg Club, For the Love of May with Ru Paul and Patricia Neal, and The Last Place On Earth with Billy Dee Williams and Phyllis Diller. In 2007, she began her foray into French cinema with the role of “Edith” in the French detective comedy, Jean Pierre Mocky's Le Deal. Her stage work includes, The Vagina Monologs, Sirena: Queen of the Tango, Dear Brutus, The Wool Gatherer, the French bedroom farce, In One Bed And Out The Other, Michael Kearns' AIDS/US II, “Rita” in the 2005 GLAAD Award nominated production of Last Summer At Bluefish Cove, the somewhat off kilter “Reverend Pat Miass” in Joni and Gina's Wedding, and the Ovation Award Nominated musical-drama, Flirting with Morty, as the abusive, trashy and tragic Ray Lee. In her spare time, she takes tourists on the rollicking comedy outing, Nasty Nellie's Tour of Hollywood, (featured at Dearly Departed Tours), where she simultaneously enlightens and amuses passengers with behind the scenes tales from both Hollywood history and her own life.   Offstage, Arngrim has been a dedicated and compassionate AIDS activist for nearly three decades, volunteering for AIDS Project Los Angeles and Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. In addition, Arngrim currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children, or PROTECT.org, fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse.

Sam. Housseni makes the case for additional leverage via "vote pacts" -- agreements between Red- and Blue-aligned voters who want to make a principled third party vote to cancel each other out so they can confidently vote their values.
