Connect with Kimberly HarmsDr. Kimberly Harms transforms the often daunting task of end-of-life planning into a compassionate journey, helping people navigate the emotional aspects of legacy planning. She has witnessed death up close many times throughout her life, including the loss of her mother and her son to suicide and, eventually, her husband from a broken heart after their son's death. These events shaped her views on finding meaning in grief, and she set out on a mission to end the stigma around end-of-life planning. As a fourth-quarter coach and international speaker specializing in grief, conflict resolution, and legacy planning, Dr. Harms helps end-of-life professionals, like hospice workers, make their clients' legacy planning practically and emotionally seamless. Her book Are You Ready? How to Build a Legacy to Die For discusses how to build a legacy that lives on after your death. On this week's motivation monday, I'm talking to Alison Arngrim.  New York Times Best Selling author of Confessions of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, Alison Arngrim is best known to viewers world-wide for her portrayal of the incredibly nasty “Nellie Oleson” on the much loved, long running hit television series Little House On The Prairie, and continues to amuse audiences through her many film, television, stage and multi-media appearances. Her one woman show Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, which started at Club Fez in New York in 2002, has now become a world-wide phenomenon, having been performed to packed houses in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle, and in France, where Arngrim performs entirely in French to standing room only crowds in her all-French version titled: Confessions d'une Garce de La Prairie and La Malle aux Tresors de Nellie Oleson. As a stand-up comedian, Arngrim has headlined at nightclubs such as the Laugh Factory, the Comedy Store and the Improv in Los Angeles; as well as the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York and assorted comedy venues across the United States and Canada. She is currently starring in two comedy series pilots: Life Interrupted, as the ex-wife of commercial child star Mason Reese, with Erin Murphy, (“Bewitched”) as her new wife and Dawn Wells, (“Gilligan's Island), as her mother, as well as, C.P.R. – Child Performers Resurrection Talent Agency, as an ex-child star gone wrong, trying to save herself and her assorted misfit cohorts by opening a talent agency. Arngrim has mocked her status as an “ex-child star” on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, during their month-long parody, “Hollywood Survivor” and continues to be a frequent interview subject on everything from A&E, “E! Entertainment, TV Land and VH-1, to CNN and the Travel Channel. The TV Land network honored her undying image as TV's worst bitch, by declaring her the winner of their 2006 award for, “Character Most Desperately In Need Of A Time Out.” She starred in the heartwarming, gay, Christmas cult classic, Make the Yuletide Gay, as the overbearing “Heather Mancuso.” Her other television and film appearances include, Livin' the Dream, Tinder & Grinder, The Bilderberg Club, For the Love of May with Ru Paul and Patricia Neal, and The Last Place On Earth with Billy Dee Williams and Phyllis Diller. In 2007, she began her foray into French cinema with the role of “Edith” in the French detective comedy, Jean Pierre Mocky's Le Deal. Her stage work includes, The Vagina Monologs, Sirena: Queen of the Tango, Dear Brutus, The Wool Gatherer, the French bedroom farce, In One Bed And Out The Other, Michael Kearns' AIDS/US II, “Rita” in the 2005 GLAAD Award nominated production of Last Summer At Bluefish Cove, the somewhat off kilter “Reverend Pat Miass” in Joni and Gina's Wedding, and the Ovation Award Nominated musical-drama, Flirting with Morty, as the abusive, trashy and tragic Ray Lee. In her spare time, she takes tourists on the rollicking comedy outing, Nasty Nellie's Tour of Hollywood, (featured at Dearly Departed Tours), where she simultaneously enlightens and amuses passengers with behind the scenes tales from both Hollywood history and her own life.   Offstage, Arngrim has been a dedicated and compassionate AIDS activist for nearly three decades, volunteering for AIDS Project Los Angeles and Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. In addition, Arngrim currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children, or PROTECT.org, fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse.

On today's special bonus episode, we sit down with Alleigh Marré, Founder and Executive Director of American Parents Coalition. Before we jump into what her organization does, we get a little background on her political career and involvement in areas of public policy. Alleigh Marré was a special assistant and Chief of Staff to the 24th Secretary of the Air Force. Prior, Marré served as the National Spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services. She also served as a communications advisor with the Presidential Transition team managing the public relations effort for the successful Senate confirmation of Secretary Wilson and also Defense Secretary James Mattis. As a self-described mother of three with one on the way, she found herself to be in the middle of this cultural war where elements of radical Leftist thinking have decided they are going to go after our children. From social media, to school indoctrination to reading lists suggested by Scholastic or the school library, the Left are going after children as early as 5 years old. When she started American Parents Coalition, Alleigh was determined to reclaim parental authority because she recognized nothing should stand between a parent and their child — not the government, not schools, not the medical establishment. Her organization wants to empower parents to determine how to raise their children and provide practical resources for doing so. As we wind down, the one thing made clear is parents need to be actively involved in every step of their children's lives. They need to engage in real-life conversations and need to be ever vigilant for the forces looking to deny them their parental rights. As the national spokesperson for National Marriage Week, Arlene shares insightful tips for nurturing a strong marital connection. The discussion emphasizes daily connections, weekly date nights, and the significance of prioritizing marriage in today's world. About Arlene Pellicane Arlene Pellicane is the National Spokesperson for National Marriage Week. She's a topmarriage and parenting author and speaker, and has appeared on several media outletslike the Today Show, Wall Street Journal, Focus on the Family, Fox & Friends, TLC’sHome Made Simple, FamilyLife Today, and The 700 Club. She’s also the host of theHappy Home podcast and the author of several books including 31 Days to a HappyHusband, and 31 Days to Becoming a Happier Wife. She is married to James, herhusband of more than 25 years, and they have three children - Ethan, Noelle and Lucy. Insights: Arlene: the importance of having a service-oriented attitude in marriage, one thatasks, "What can I do for you?" rather than "What can you do for me?" By focusing on small acts of kindness, like bringing a glass of water or leaving a loving note, you can demonstrate love and commitment to your spouse. This approach leads to an active and controllable part in the relationship, fostering appreciation and reciprocation from your partner. Arlene underscores the need to consistently prioritize your spouse's needs and to take the initiative in showing care and service. She expresses hope that listeners will recognize the value in their marriages, take active steps to cherish them, and thereby inspire future generations to value the institution of marriage Dave appreciates Arlene's insights on maintaining an outward mindset and the importance of being intentional in marriage. He reflects on his parents' impressive 58-year marriage, recognizing it as a model for what he strives to achieve in his own family life. With his spouse and their four children, they make a concerted effort to show the importance of their marriage. They prioritize their relationship, with regular date nights, emphasizing to their children that their partnership is a priority. Dave acknowledges the need for planning and intentionality to prevent drifting apart in marriage, valuing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly connections. Liz appreciates the concept that individuals can often get caught up in a mindset of expecting more from their partners without recognizing their own contributions. In her marriage therapy sessions, she frequently observes that when a person perceives they're not receiving enough from their partner, it's typically reflective of not giving enough themselves. This realization is a good foundation for addressing marital issues. Liz also highlights the decline in marriage rates from previous generations to millennials, and says that aunts, uncles, and parents bear a significant responsibility to promote the value of marriage. She stresses that it is crucial for them to model strong marriages themselves, to reinforce the positive message about marriage.
