Easy Catalan: Learn Catalan with everyday conversations | Converses del dia a dia per aprendre català

Joan: [0:16] Hola hola, Andreu! Andreu: [0:17] Com anem? Joan: [0:18] Bé, i tu? Joan: [1:02] "Ostres… No m'expliquis la teva vida, saps? O sigui, era una pregunta rutinària". Andreu: [1:07] Una pregunta retòrica, gairebé, no? Joan: [1:09] Sí, sí, sí, sí, sí. No vull saber res teu, no m'expliquis (contes). Aleshores, has dit: "Bé, però..." Tot. Joan: [2:39] Buf, quin rotllo. Andreu: [2:40] Sí, sí, sí. Ara ja està tot net… Joan: [2:42] I ho vau portar a algun lloc tipus tapi… Andreu: [2:44] Una tapisseria? Andreu: [3:11] Ah, perquè has comprat un sofà, últimament? SAPS Section Head for Quality Management Brigadier Rachel Matjeng concluded her testimony at the Madlanga Commission on Friday. Matjeng was extensively questioned about her relationship with Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. She testified that while she was in a romantic relationship with Matlala she did not assist him in attaining an SAPS tender. This despite overwhelming evidence suggesting her active involvement in Matlala's SAPS tender processes. Besides tender manipulation and romantic connections, Brigadier Rachel Matjeng's testimony was also peppered with other issues that ignited social media ranging from weight loss medication to Brazilian butt lifts. Our reporter Sibahle Motha gives us this report followed by a discussion with the Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy at the Nelson Mandela University, Professor Bheki Mngomezulu and Senior Researcher in the Centre of Criminology at the University of Cape Town, Dr Simon Howell

The task team was established after the commission's interim report referred five senior SAPS officials for investigation, including KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head, Lesetja Senona. The amended deadline for the commission's final report is 17 March this year. However, the commission's spokesperson Jeremy Michaels says it is expected that Justice Madlanga and President Ramaphosa will engage further on a possible extension, given the lengthy list of witnesses still to testify. On the 13th of July 2025, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System. This followed serious allegations made by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi about the existence and operation of a sophisticated criminal syndicate that has allegedly infiltrated the criminal justice system in South Africa. The Commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, assisted by Advocate Sesi Baloyi SC and Advocate Sandile Khumalo SC, submitted its interim report on the 17th of December 2025 in line with the delivery timelines that had been determined by the President. I tu dius "bon vespre"? Joan: [2:20] D'acord. I sí, sí, sí, els hi vaig escriure i… em fa molta gràcia, perquè vaig fer molt espam així per WhatsApp, i tothom em responia amb la imatge, saps? La imatge aquella de: "Ja has votat", no sé què. I jo: "D'acord, d'acord". Ui, Joan… Joan: [2:37] No tinc cinquanta cosins. Andreu: [2:33] Una altra mentida, no? Joan: [2:35] No, i et deien: "No, si ja t'ho he dit, tants nassos com dies falten perquè s'acabi l'any!" No ho sé, no ho sé, eh? Segurament no ens escoltarà ningú, avui. Joan: [0:29] Espero, espero. I diu: "No". I dic: "..." Andreu: [1:10] Doncs ja t'ho ensenyaran a l'escola, no? No sé si l'has vist. I dic: "Mmm..." In this interview with Chris Steyn, Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Nicholas Gotsell relates how he and colleagues uncovered a critical shortage of rape kits with many police stations having none or ones that have expired. He slams SAPS Western Cape management for providing grossly inflated, factually incorrect and completely misleading numbers. “And unfortunately, in the Western Cape, we sit with a provincial Police Commissioner who just does not answer emails or requests for information, even from the media.” Gotsell - who vows to continue with unannounced spot checks - describes the implication for rape survivors who rely on time-senstitive forensic evidence to have their attackers convicted. Meanwhile, he shares some advice of rape victims who find themselves affected by the shortage.

Joan: [0:17] Hola hola! Andreu: [0:18] Què, com has dormit aquests últims dies? Joan: [0:20] Doncs… millor. Andreu: [0:22] Sí? Me n'alegro. Joan: [0:56] No l'he sentit, però vaig veure… I jo vaig dir: "Massa tard", i llavors us vaig enviar l'episodi de pòdcast. Massa coses. I em vaig posar a escriure… Joan: [3:01] No, et va sortir una introducció… Quin poeta! Vinga! Joan: [3:40] Va, va, va. Va! Silvestre: [3:41] Hola hola! Bon dia! Bon dia a tothom!
