Their first confirmed victim, in March 1981, is their own roommate, aspiring actress Keryn Barnes, stabbed thirteen times and beaten with a frying pan after Suzan decides she's a witch stealing her "yogic powers." From there the couple drifts to a Northern California marijuana farm, where Michael shoots fellow farmhand Clark Stephens in the head and tries to burn the body, and then to the shoulder of Highway 101 in 1983, where hitchhiking ends with driver Jon Charles Hellyar stabbed and shot in front of passing traffic. A televised press conference, a recanted confession, and two 75-years-to-life sentences follow, and Michael's own daughter Jenn later describes visiting him in prison as looking into the eyes of someone with no soul.The episode closes in the mid-1970s with rock journalist and Wiccan practitioner Walli Elmlark, the Circus Magazine columnist New York knew as the White Witch, whose story is told through the memoir of her friend Timothy Green Beckley, founder of the New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences on 14th Street. Elmlark's most famous client is David Bowie, who at the height of a cocaine addiction is drawing protective pentagrams on every surface of his Los Angeles home and reading Dion Fortune's "Psychic Self Defense" as a survival manual. When Bowie becomes convinced Satan is living in his indoor pool, he turns down a Greek Orthodox priest and instead performs an exorcism from Elmlark's written instructions, with a few hundred dollars of talismans bought from Hollywood occult shops. According to his then-wife Angie, the water begins to thrash, a gargoyle-shaped stain appears on the bottom of the pool, and later tenants can't paint it away. Elmlark herself dies around 1980 of a barbiturate overdose, a death her friends learned of only through her family and which at least one of them still finds suspicious.

Suzan Bear believed she was a godly entity who was thousands of years old, and was sent by God to usher in the end times. She was to create an army of soldiers to rid the world of witches. She was part of the hippie counter culture, and constantly on drugs. She found Michael, a name she chose for him, saying that Allah told her that Michael was his true name. Michel, as in the archangel. They followed a constantly changing skewed version of Islam that changed whenever they needed to justify something. If you disagreed with Suzan on anything, you were a witch, and that was when they started committing murder. A wild case for sure. The YouTube page is now active. This week I’m going to tell you about a serial killer couple that became convinced that some of their friends and frequent visitors that came to visit their pot farm were witches and were out to do harm to the world. So they decided to kill 3 people by smashing their skulls, stabbing and shooting. This couple often took hallucinogenic drugs and during one of their trips Susan had a vision and that vision was to change their name to Suzan and Michael Bear and declare allegiance to the Muslim faith. Eventually they were caught and sentenced to 25 years to life.This is the story of James Clifford Carson & Susan Barnes Carson.

Greetings! On this month's episode we discuss two sets of killer couples. Up first, Sarah discusses the case of Dmitry and Natalia Baksheev, who in 2017, confessed to murdering and eating their victim. That's right! These two were cannibals. The couple would also confess to cannibalizing 30 other victims, starting their terror in 1999. However, the end result in this case is kind of odd and mysterious.  Next, Val discusses the case of Michael "Bear" and Suzan "Bear" Carson, two American serial killers who were convicted of killing three people between 1981 and 1983. These two claimed to have been pacifists and vegetarian yoga practitioners who converted to a form of Islam. Their shared vision? To rid the world of those they believed were "witches."
