Cyanide is a poison that has captured our imagination in mysteries and spy novels, but the danger is all too real. In this episode we'll talk a bit about how the poison works and how it has been used in several prominent true crime cases.
Why James Craig Allegedly Chose Poison: The Psychology of Slow Murder Description: This wasn't a murder of passion. It was a slow bleed. James Craig allegedly poisoned his wife Angela not in a fit of rage — but with surgical patience. Cyanide mixed into protein shakes. Visine added quietly to drinks. All while texting “I love you” and smiling beside her hospital bed. If true, this was murder by milligram — and that says a lot about who he really is. In this episode, psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins me to break down why someone would choose poison as their method. What it says about control. About ego. About the kind of mind that doesn't just want to eliminate someone — but wants to do it quietly, slowly, and in total command of the narrative. We cover the psychology behind poisoning as a form of sadism, the disturbing clinical detachment it requires, and how Craig may have viewed the entire situation as a chess match rather than a marriage. We also unpack the idea of “performing grief” — how some high-functioning predators keep up the act even while the crime is unfolding. If you're trying to understand how someone could act caring while allegedly orchestrating a murder… this one's for you. #JamesCraig #AngelaCraig #PoisonMurder #SmoothiePoisoning #TrueCrimePodcast #TonyBrueski #HiddenKillers #PsychologicalSadism #JamesCraigTrial #VisinePoisoning Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Wisconsin Couple Tried to Poison Dating App Matches—Now Facing Life In what prosecutors are calling one of Wisconsin's most disturbing poison plots ever uncovered, 43-year-old Paul VanDuyne Jr. and his girlfriend Andrea Whitaker face a mountain of charges after allegedly stalking and trying to kill two women he briefly dated. Their weapons of choice? Cyanide, thallium, hydrogen sulfide, and even abrin—a toxin more lethal than ricin. It began with dating apps. Two women, each believing they had dodged a creepy connection, suddenly found themselves targeted in a campaign of chemical warfare. From poisoned water bottles and tampered air vents to planted trail cams and texts blaming them for fake suicides—this wasn't obsession. It was a murder plot months in the making. One woman remains paralyzed in a wheelchair. Another narrowly escaped. FBI agents found a toxic lab in VanDuyne's van—including vials, a grinder, and rosary peas. Whitaker, trained in pharmacology, was allegedly the mastermind behind the dosages. They stalked their victims across county lines. Planted poison in garages, cars, and even through air ducts. Their bail? $10 million and $4 million. Their charges? Attempted first-degree homicide, stalking, battery, and more. This case blends science, psychology, and absolute horror. Patronato do SciCast: 1. Patreon SciCast 2. Apoia.se/Scicast 3. Before Patty Hearst appeared as an actress in John Waters' movies, she captivated America on the silver screen as a hostage terrorized by the Symbionese Liberation Army. When the newspaper heiress was kidnapped by the radical organization in 1974, the country sympathized with her plight. But after just a few months, the SLA's guns weren't pointing at Patty anymore. Suddenly, Patty was firing her own weapons during fistfights and bank robberies as a member of the same terrorist group that once kept her locked in a closet. In court, Patty claimed she was brainwashed and that she played along for her own safety. It's true that Patty Hearst gave the performance of a lifetime — but we still don't know which part of her life was the performance. KD Kempamma, infamously known as Cyanide Mallika, was India's first convicted female serial killer, preying on vulnerable women in Karnataka between 1999 and 2007. Disguising herself as a pious woman offering spiritual guidance, she lured victims with promises of divine intervention before poisoning them with cyanide-laced prasad or water. Her chilling crimes, driven by greed, ultimately led to her arrest and a historic death sentence, marking one of India's most shocking serial killer cases. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/ Hosted on Acast. Back in June, there was a massive accident at the Eagle gold mine in central Yukon, on traditional Na-Cho Nyak Dun territory — 4 million tonnes of cyanide-laced rock collapsed. Surrounding surface and groundwater soon had elevated cyanide levels, and dozens of fish died. Cleanup efforts are underway, but now, the storage ponds are nearly full of cyanide solution and are at risk of another cyanide spill. Niall McGee is the Globe's mining reporter. He's on the show to explain what we know about this accident, what happened with the mine's owner, and why it's so crucial that they figure out how to treat the cyanide soon.

On a summer day in 1986, a medical examiner and her assistant stared down at a deceased woman lying on the metal table. Neither of them had ever seen anything like this, the woman appeared to have been completely healthy at the time of her death - she didn't have a stroke, there was no heart attack and there was no sign of a drug overdose. However, this seemingly healthy woman had suddenly collapsed on the floor and been brain dead just minutes later. Just then the assistant took a long deep breath in through her nose, and after she did she looked over at the medical examiner with wide eyes. The medical examiner did the same thing and took a long deep breath in through her nose. They both smelled a very strange odor, and it smelled almost like almonds. The medical examiner could hardly believe it, she'd only heard about something like this happening in movies and detective novels. But that smell meant one thing to her and to the assistant, this deceased woman must have been poisoned with cyanide. And this theory would soon lead to a large scale investigation by local police and the FBI, and what they would find would casue panic across the entire United States. For 100s more stories like these, check out our main YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @mrballenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Have you heard of Gary Brecka before? You probably have... He's been making waves in the health space lately, but honestly, some of his claims are just plain ridiculous and not backed by science. One of the most shocking is his statement that "Celsius energy drinks contain 4x the daily allowable amount of cyanide." Basically, he's calling it pure poison! In this week's podcast, I break down this wild claim and explain why it's completely false, using solid science to back it up. I dig into how our bodies detoxify cyanide and get rid of it through urine, why it's crucial to understand that the dose makes the poison, and how avoiding all toxic compounds is nearly impossible. Plus, I do a deep dive into the actual cyanide content of Celsius drinks to see if there's really anything to worry about. I hope you enjoy it! In the fall of 1982, terror struck from the most unlikely of places, stemming from a product that so many used each day without a second thought-- Tylenol. But, when seven different individuals in Chicago passed away after ingesting the pain reliever, law enforcement soon realized that someone had mixed the medicine with cyanide.
