We also explore the latest research on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, and uncover the sources of the sun's mysterious gamma rays.Life's Building Blocks on TitanA groundbreaking study reveals that Titan, Saturn's largest moon, exhibits unexpected chemical interactions at extremely low temperatures. Researchers found that hydrogen cyanide can mix with nonpolar substances like methane and ethane, challenging traditional chemistry principles. This discovery could provide insights into the prebiotic chemistry that may have preceded life on Earth, as Titan's environment mirrors that of early Earth.Europa's Quiet OceansIn a surprising turn, new calculations suggest that the vast subsurface ocean beneath Europa's icy crust may be lifeless. This research indicates that Europa lacks the geological activity, such as hydrothermal vents, necessary to sustain life. Lead author Paul Brian discusses how the moon's stable orbit around Jupiter limits the tidal forces that could drive geological processes, casting doubt on the moon's potential as a habitat for life. The Source of Solar Gamma RaysAstronomers have identified the origin of intense gamma radiation emitted during solar flares, linking it to high-energy electrons colliding with plasma in the solar corona. This finding, derived from observations of a significant solar flare in 2017, enhances our understanding of solar flare physics and could improve space weather forecasting.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesJournal of the Proceedings of the National Academy of SciencesNature CommunicationsNature AstronomyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-your-guide-to-space-astronomy--2458531/support.(00:00:00) Scientists studying Saturn's moon Titan have discovered that normally incompatible substances can mix(00:05:19) NASA will launch the Dragonfly mission to Titan in 2028(00:13:36) NASA's Europa Clipper spacecraft will study icy moon Europa(00:18:11) Astronomers have discovered that gamma rays generated by solar flares are caused by electrons(00:21:58) Most people who take diabetes drug Mounjaro gain weight back after stopping

James Craig allegedly poisoned his wife Angela not in a fit of rage — but with surgical patience. Cyanide mixed into protein shakes. Visine added quietly to drinks. All while texting “I love you” and smiling beside her hospital bed. If true, this was murder by milligram — and that says a lot about who he really is. About the kind of mind that doesn't just want to eliminate someone — but wants to do it quietly, slowly, and in total command of the narrative. We cover the psychology behind poisoning as a form of sadism, the disturbing clinical detachment it requires, and how Craig may have viewed the entire situation as a chess match rather than a marriage. Wisconsin Couple Tried to Poison Dating App Matches—Now Facing Life In what prosecutors are calling one of Wisconsin's most disturbing poison plots ever uncovered, 43-year-old Paul VanDuyne Jr. and his girlfriend Andrea Whitaker face a mountain of charges after allegedly stalking and trying to kill two women he briefly dated. Their weapons of choice? Cyanide, thallium, hydrogen sulfide, and even abrin—a toxin more lethal than ricin. It began with dating apps. Two women, each believing they had dodged a creepy connection, suddenly found themselves targeted in a campaign of chemical warfare. From poisoned water bottles and tampered air vents to planted trail cams and texts blaming them for fake suicides—this wasn't obsession. It was a murder plot months in the making. One woman remains paralyzed in a wheelchair. Another narrowly escaped. FBI agents found a toxic lab in VanDuyne's van—including vials, a grinder, and rosary peas. Whitaker, trained in pharmacology, was allegedly the mastermind behind the dosages. They stalked their victims across county lines. Planted poison in garages, cars, and even through air ducts. Their bail? $10 million and $4 million. Their charges? Attempted first-degree homicide, stalking, battery, and more. This case blends science, psychology, and absolute horror. Suddenly, Patty was firing her own weapons during fistfights and bank robberies as a member of the same terrorist group that once kept her locked in a closet. In court, Patty claimed she was brainwashed and that she played along for her own safety. On a summer day in 1986, a medical examiner and her assistant stared down at a deceased woman lying on the metal table. Neither of them had ever seen anything like this, the woman appeared to have been completely healthy at the time of her death - she didn't have a stroke, there was no heart attack and there was no sign of a drug overdose. However, this seemingly healthy woman had suddenly collapsed on the floor and been brain dead just minutes later. Just then the assistant took a long deep breath in through her nose, and after she did she looked over at the medical examiner with wide eyes. The medical examiner did the same thing and took a long deep breath in through her nose. They both smelled a very strange odor, and it smelled almost like almonds. The medical examiner could hardly believe it, she'd only heard about something like this happening in movies and detective novels. But that smell meant one thing to her and to the assistant, this deceased woman must have been poisoned with cyanide. And this theory would soon lead to a large scale investigation by local police and the FBI, and what they would find would casue panic across the entire United States. For 100s more stories like these, check out our main YouTube channel just called "MrBallen" -- https://www.youtube.com/c/MrBallenIf you want to reach out to me, contact me on Instagram, Twitter or any other major social media platform, my username on all of them is @mrballenSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
