In the November 2022 election, to Claremont and La Verne,  the contest for Director, Division III, of the Three Valleys Municipal Water District may be one of the most important.  Seeking to take the area into the future is Javier Aguilar, an experienced and highly educated Senior Regional Planner with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).  Javi has analyzed the data surrounding our current water situation - declining supply and prices rising faster than incomes - and believes, for the future, there are changes that can and need to be made.  In this very candid interview, Javi - self-described as non-political and practical - outlines his vision for innovation and taking new directions will provide the needed solutions to our dilemma.  He brings to light remedies at the local and regional levels, looking at breaking away from the practices of the past and treating the water that we have like the valuable resource it inarguably is.Recorded in one of Claremont's most popular, if not acoustically friendly restaurants, the ambient noise affected the sound quality.  However, it did not tarnish Javi's core messages in the least.  In answering each question, his interest, his knowledge and his passion for serving the community where he grew up comes through with crystal clarity.  This episode is another must-listen for those who understand how water is one of the most fundamental components to the quality of life here and want to make an informed decision - and have a voice - on the direction(s) to be taken in the years...generations, really...to come.  After listening, suggest to your friends they listen as well, and contact Javi with your questions, concerns or just to tell him how much you enjoyed this interview. And then be sure to vote.  Regardless of your choice, please exercise your right to be heard and vote.=============================================To contact Javi:Websitehttps://www.javiforwater.com/Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084615410339LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/javier-aguilar-9bb92811b/Link to the League of Women Voter's recent forumhttps://youtu.be/zJPWPzbtCZgFeedback, questions, comments, constructive criticism are all welcomed and encouraged.Send to claremontspeaks@gmail.com with Feedback in the subject line, or go to the appropriate page on Claremont Speaks' website - https://www.claremontspeaks.comClaremont Speaks is a Paradise Road Media production. Today we are sitting down with Dena Spatz, PhD, David Miller, and Nick Holmes, PhD - the three leading scientists on the historic paper that was just released called, “The global contribution of invasive vertebrate eradication as a key island restoration tool”. In this massively important paper, these scientists synthesized over 100 years of invasive vertebrate eradications from islands and found that this type of intervention had an 88% success rate. Yes, an 88% success rate! It's rare that anything in conservation can give such a clear path forward. Dena, Dave, Nick and I chat about a wide range of topics including the history behind our islands' decline, what's all involved in island conservation interventions including eradications and restoration, how they created the novel database that's at the center of their historic paper, how to prevent future invasions from opportunistic species, and how we all can help save our islands. For more details on this podcast visit: https://www.journeybeyondweightloss.com/blog/78 Episode 78: Your Primitive Brain Have you ever felt like you had 2 different parts of you that were fighting each other? For example, one part of you wants pizza and wine and chocolate while the other part of you wants to get your weight under control so you can feel better?  It's the proverbial angel on one shoulder whispering one ear while on the other shoulder is the devil tempting you with immediate pleasure, right? What's going on here? Is there anything we can do to stop the war going on in our heads? Tune in to today's podcast to find out! Episode Highlights: (4:41) The primary motivations of the primitive brain are: 1) Seek anything that brings pleasure 2) Avoid anything that brings pain 3) Conserve energy at all costs. 4)Stick with people who are safe, fear those you don't know 5) Avoid being seen.  Now, this is our primitive brain…. But our brains did evolve beyond this, right? So we have a human brain that has evolved past our primitive brain. This is called our “prefrontal cortex” (10:35) In order to lose weight and keep it off, what we need to do is to put the prefrontal cortex - the human brain - in charge of the primitive brain.  We do this by planning ahead EVERYTHING we will eat, 24 hours in advance. This way we are not giving our primitive brain any chance of making a food decision. (13:14) This is why I always say the weight loss journey done well is a journey of powerful personal evolution. When you can take control over your primitive brain with food, you can do it with spending, you can do it with drinking, you can do it with exercise, you can do it with relationships, you can do it with time management, you can just watch yourself coming more and more into alignment with your goals and dreams, evolving yourself, getting better all the time.

Long summer days, high temperatures and maximum sunlight are the hall marks of a good summer (lets hope for a little rain though!). The Summer of 2022 is eagerly awaited by all the keen gardens up and down the UK as herbaceous borders, roses, veg gardens and meadows are awash with new plantings, flower and a general sense of abundance that only Summer can bring. Whereas Spring is a steady ramping of growth the Summer is a time for 'peak  plant' followed by the mellow and relaxed waning into Autumn - so slap on that sun scream, stick on your favourite summer hat and get out and enjoy all the hard work you've undertaken in your garden! The sporadic nature of summer thorms is testing the patience of Head Gardeners, Saul and Lucy.
