I'm honored to welcome my friend, Tracey Croner, to The FYX podcast for a conversation on body image: it's a challenging, but seriously important topic in the health and wellness industry that year after year, only seems to become more complex for women. Tracey, who is currently the Charlotte Regional Marketing manager for Orange Theory Fitness, is a force on marketing side of the boutique fitness industry. She's spent the past six years with the Orange Theory brand, and has supported the Charlotte region's growth from just one studio to more than 10. But, there's so much more to Tracey's story than boutique fitness. While we could certainly have a fascinating conversation on what makes for engaging social media, how to effectively hit sales goals, and how to help brands differentiate their offerings, we're pushing the business aside for now. Tracey has spent the majority of adulthood battling anorexia and bulimia. In preparing this episode, Tracey and I agreed it was important to include a trigger warning on the conversation, as we did discuss her behavior and health risks she faced while undereating, overexercising, and continuing to play college basketball. On behalf of The FYX team and Tracey, we would like to note that this episode may be triggering if you or a loved one has been directly affected by an eating disorder. Out of respect for your mental health, we owe you a disclaimer and want to urge anyone who may be struggling with body image and self-esteem to seek help. There are many incredible, free resources available online, a few of which are listed at the bottom of these show notes. If you feel alone and don't have anyone to turn to, you have an automatic support system in both Tracey and me. Tracey launched an Instagram account, Thru Hazel Eyes, dedicated to her ongoing recovery. As you'll hear from Tracey in this episode, one of the best outcomes of her personal struggle has been the discovery of a true passion for mental health awareness and E.D. recovery. Tracey says she is fortunate for everything she's learned through therapy and rehab, and today she is committed to sharing her knowledge in an effort to help others. One of the biggest challenges about battling an eating disorder, Tracey says, is that most people struggle in silence--even when their behaviors are hidden in plain sight. In this episode you'll learn: - How Tracey struggled with losing her identity as a basketball player, and why sports have always been such an important part of who she is - The newfound strength Tracey has discovered in facing her eating disorder head-on, and in being so open with her story today - That the recovery process is ongoing--and that's perfectly okay If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, consider contacting the National Eating Disorder Helpline. The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders also has a helpline, as well as resources to connect those seeking treatment to mentors, support groups, and medical professionals.
