Why do some businesses thrive while others crumble? In this livestream, I'll break down how weak leadership is often the root cause of business failure—using my firsthand experience working for both 9Round and OrangeTheory Fitness as the perfect case study. Both brands operate with similar business models, yet one is still standing while the other has shut its doors. The difference? Leadership. I'll be sharing behind-the-scenes insights from both companies, highlighting key decisions (or lack thereof) that determined their fate.If you're a business owner, manager, or just someone interested in the dynamics of success and failure in the fitness industry, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. Drop your thoughts in the chat and let's discuss what it really takes to run a successful business.
Kristie Shifflette built a 13-location Orangetheory Fitness empire from scratch—bootstrapping a capital-hungry business, personally guaranteeing leases, and taking on risk most founders wouldn't touch. In the end, it paid off for Kristie and in this episode, you'll discover how to: Bootstrap a capital-intensive business without giving up control Reduce your risk when taking on an investor Attract entrepreneurial employees who will care as much as you do Think about the $10 million milestone (and why it matters to private equity) Know when to take some chips off the table—and when to double down Ace management presentations with an acquirer Play hard to get (even when you want to sell) Get an acquirer to bump up their offer Max out an earn-out payment—even if you don't quite hit your targets Spot an acquisition offer that's likely to be re-traded

We’ve all tortured ourselves by stewing over something we said or did — or didn’t say or didn’t do. It’s time to stop the stewing! Liz and Sarah’s advice? If you think you’ve offended someone, reach out. In Take A Hike, Liz and Sarah talk about a reader who reframed taking a walk as “genius activation,” and it’s inspired them to reframe things in their own lives with whimsical monikers. Sarah’s now thinking of picking up poop as “yard beautification” and Liz is calling Orange Theory Fitness “kangaroo time.” This week in Hits & Bombs, they give two Hits. One to Sarah for getting a new printer for her house, and one to both of them for planning more work lunches. Then Sarah has a printing hack: Make things smaller to print them, which saves paper and makes documents (like recipes) easier to manage. An interview with Devin Lebrun, SVP Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, and MV Shook, Healthcare & Innovation Manager, at Orangetheory FitnessThere was no lack of care across the people that we talked to and an interest in helping their patients. What we found was there was a lack of tools and support for them to do that, a lack of understanding of how to do it, and the goal would be to help support them there and create quite a frictionless process for them to just integrate it, because there's no lack of a desire to do it, which is really, really helpful to bring this movement to life.Devin LebrunWith your work and with the resources you've helped us create, we're able to then help educate those providers who are already in our studios of hey, like, if you love this and you're helping treat someone and you think this might be a good solution for them, too, or you have other healthcare provider friends that are looking for that movement solution that they love, like we would love to be something that they consider for that.MV ShookOrangetheory Fitness Innovation Team roleScience-backed and coach-led workoutInteresting and innovative initiativesReaching a broader demographic with Healthcare AdvantageHealthcare Advantage program connecting the clinic and communityRaising awareness among healthcare providersSubsidized exercise program impactConnecting the health & fitness industry to healthcareReducing healthcare costsSupporting progress reports back to the healthcare providerBringing the exercise as medicine movement to lifeBeing part of the healthcare continuumhttps://www.movetolivemore.com/https://www.movetolivemore.com/bookhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/move-to-live-more@MovetoLiveMore

IIn today's episode, host Pete Moore sits down with Jeff Miller, the Chief Marketing Officer of RowHouse, a leading brand under the Xponential umbrella. Jeff's career is a journey through several industries and roles, reflecting his adaptability and passion for marketing and technology. He began in the education sector, creating websites for tech products before transitioning to the burgeoning world of e-commerce during the early days of the internet. His first significant marketing role was in the surf industry with Body Glove, where he helped launch their first direct-to-consumer website and pioneered their digital marketing efforts. He delves deep into the unique positioning of RowHouse, discussing how the brand aims to demystify rowing and make it appealing to a broader audience, including non-rowers. Jeff also touches on the importance of pre-sales, the evolving focus on strength training, community building, and marketing strategies to maximize the boutique fitness experience. Listen now to learn more about fitness marketing, the impact of cultural trends, and innovative ways to keep members engaged and motivated. On the revival around rowing, Jeff states, "There's definitely a renewed interest in rowing. We're looking at some of those Olympic athletes and some of these NIL deals with college rowing to cement that. That's still a pretty small niche, but it's a way to get in front and show that . . . there's these people who are in amazing shape, who live these healthy lives, and where rowing is a part of their core concept." Key themes discussed Navigated careers from education to digital marketing. Enhancing brand membership through effective marketing strategies. Comparison of instructor influence in fitness studios. Renewed interest in rowing across all populations. Efficient workout for Ozempic users: consider rowing. Developing fitness program and integrating pretax payments. Can SilverSneakers and Medicare fund boutique fitness? A few key takeaways: 1. Jeff's diverse career path led him from education, through the surf industry with Body Glove, to a significant role at YogaWorks where he discovered his passion for marketing in the fitness industry. This background has equipped him with extensive experience in both digital and traditional marketing strategies. 2. RowHouse is approaching its 10-year anniversary and aims to position itself as the go-to option for a full-body, low-impact workout. Despite the niche nature of rowing in boutique fitness, RowHouse plans to capitalize on the comprehensive benefits of rowing, including strength, cardio, and flexibility, to attract a broader audience beyond hardcore rowers. 3. The company emphasizes its community. However, RowHouse goes a step further by promoting a "crew" mentality to distinguish itself from other boutique brands. This sense of unity and collective effort is a core element in their classes, adding value beyond the physical workout. 4. Drawing from his experience at Orange Theory Fitness, Miller highlights the importance of strong presales and opening strategies to build a robust membership base from the get-go. This involves well-thought-out marketing tactics and a competitive spirit to set high benchmarks for membership growth and studio performance. 5. RowHouse is considering the growing trends in the fitness industry, such as the focus on strength training and the potential implications of new health and wellness trends like GLP-1 weight loss drugs. The brand is also exploring new ways to optimize studio time and introduce classes that cater to different demographics, ensuring maximum utilization and appeal. Click here to download transcript. In today's episode, we uncover the reason why Meredith is absent from the TV Room and laugh along with hot topics about vacations, family, passions, running, group fitness and DIY beauty. The conversation shifts gears into the craziness of life in May, with the end of the school year signifying major transitions as seniors graduate. Our hosts reminisce about their own Pansy Celebrations and the meaningful ritual that welcomed them into the Tri Delta alumnae world when they graduated. The common thread throughout the conversation is that life is a journey of ups, downs and chaos, but through it all, there is always room and time for love, laughter and the unbreakable bonds of friendship.

In this episode, I sat down with Angelique Sanabria, a fitness coach and personal trainer, about her journey to living her purpose. Angelique shares her story of shifting passions and self-discovery, and how she found fulfillment in teaching exercise and helping others achieve their goals. A big part of her Purpose is teaching the importance of functional movement, mobility, and stability, and how exercise is not just about aesthetics, but also about overall health and well-being. Join us as we discuss: ➡️What “living in your Purpose” feels like to Angelique ➡️How exercise is more than just aesthetics - it's also about mobility, strength, and overall health. ➡️How factors like stress, sleep, and nutrition are crucial for sustaining progress and reaching long-term goals. ➡️The way teaching and helping others achieve their goals can be fulfilling and align with one's Purpose. ➡️How self-discovery, shifting passions, and overcoming self-limiting beliefs are big parts of living your Purpose === Angelique Sanabria: Originally from Queens, NY Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach Angelique Sanabria lives her purpose daily to improve the quality of people's lives through strength training, habit change, and overall, lifestyle change. Her approach is through a sustainable and enjoyable process, combining her client's goals with her holistic outlook. Starting her career at Equinox she discovered the importance of listening to client's goals and assessing their current fitness level in order to create individualized progressive programs that work. Her experience with Equinox created a foundation to eventually begin her own independent Personal Training business: MDRN MVMNT FITNESS. Her goal as a coach is to create a healthier shift in mindset for anyone who struggles with body image and/or exercise addiction, along with lack of motivation and strength training knowledge. What brought her to this point was struggling for many years with unhealthy eating patterns, overcompensating those eating patterns with an unhealthy amount of exercise (specifically cardio), and not having any of the knowledge herself or the tools to strength train correctly. She lacked the understanding as to why strength training is so important beyond achieving an aesthetic goal. Now, she has the privilege every day to work with people who are curious to learn more about their bodies and how to achieve their fitness goals and maintain them long-term. Apart from Personal Training Angelique has been a coach with Orangetheory Fitness for almost three years now. Outside of fitness she loves a good self-help book (currently reading The 5AM Club), values the friendships in her life, enjoys cycling outside –as it never fails to immediately boost her mood– and naturally, as a Sagittarius, loves to travel and explore. Today is a simple mantra: “one tweak each week” Last week, I started working out again (after not really moving my body much for GULP, 4 YEARS!). I had 2 babies and a pandemic and a move/remodel. But my baby is almost 3 years old, and there's no excuses, plus I feel like crap! So I signed up for Orange Theory Fitness and made a commitment to myself to work out for 5 days. Last week was my first week, but I ate like crap - we're talking 5 indulgent meals a day at about 3000 calories. So, although I was working out like an athlete, I was eating like a lumberjack! I told my husband that I'm disappointed in myself and was wondering if I was self-sabotaging my progress. He was so great and wrapped his arm around me and said, “You did great. Now just eat better. One tweak a week!” And it stuck! Friend, maybe you can relate to this and are needing a little encouragement. Our Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee can keep us down by comparing us to other people's progress and judging our accomplishments, so I hope this week's intention of: One Tweak a week Is helpful to you to encourage you to keep going. You're making progress and doing great! Lots of love, Audrey Want to dive in deeper? Have you ever felt like you had everything you wanted but still felt empty and unfulfilled? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend 10 days in complete darkness without food or stimulation? If so, you will love this episode of the You-est You podcast, where Julie Reisler interviews Pavel Stuchlik, a former professional athlete, DJ, and entrepreneur who went through a radical transformation in his life. In this episode, you will learn: How Pavel struggled with depression, anxiety, and autoimmune conditions despite having a successful career, millions in the bank, a wife, children, and a lovely home. How Pavel did a 180 in his life and started to study with mystics, teachers, and gurus worldwide, and how he went through four cycles of 10 days of complete darkness, where he had a powerful awakening and healing experience. How to manifest what you desire by spending time in silence within you and focusing on BE, DO, HAVE, instead of the reverse. How darkness is the medicine, and how it can help you meet yourself, go within, and heal at a deep level. How to increase your exposure to natural EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) like time in nature, facing the sun, and moon bathing, and how to decrease your exposure to manmade EMFs and manage your EMF hygiene to mitigate their impact. How to face your emotions is the hardest part of any healing process, and go forth with kindness and grace with yourself and others. How to unhook from all the distractions and prioritize spending time daily in meditation, breathwork, dancing, and resetting your nervous system. This episode is full of wisdom, inspiration, and practical tips to help you live your best life and be the You-est You.
