The stunning images and videos that WA cattle farmer Camille McClymont shares with her Instagram followers each week, perfectly capture the epic landscapes, red dust sunsets and daily farm chores of remote station life. Camille and her husband Jack, along with their young son Lachlan, manage some 16,000 head of cattle over many thousands of hectares - and their days are often spent mustering, checking fences and savoring every second of their time together. But Camille's isolated lifestyle wasn't always this idyllic. As a teenager, facing time away from her family's farm at boarding school and grappling with her brother's illness, she became trapped in a cycle of dieting, depression and body dysmorphia. Like so many other young Australians who - often in secret - battle eating disorders that can quickly overwhelm their lives, Camilla faced a terrifying battle with Anorexia Nervosa.***Thanks so much for listening to this episode of the Flying Doctor Podcast. Sag mal Tanja?!
ACHTUNG! Diese Podcast-Episode ist ein Mitschnitt der Original-Redebeiträge einer Doppelsendung "Sag mal Tanja?! Der antenne 1 Neckarburg Rock & Pop Talk".
We have opinions, and as usual, we're not afraid to share them. On what will probably be the first of a series, Ash and Callie are ranting about some of the things that really grind their gears. Under fire in this episode are Mum groups that make you feel bad about yourself, why an omelette is not a pizza and why not having children is perfectly ok, especially when you have a history of an eating disorder. To join the EDGI 2 Australia study, click here.To find out more about the EDGI 2 Australia study, click here.To join the LivED study, click here.To find out more and for more resources visit our website pavedwithgoldpodcast.comEmail us at pavedwithgoldpod@gmail.comFollow us on Instagram at @pavedwithgoldpodPurchase Callie's Trauma Immediate Response Plan here!Follow Callie on Instagram @calsann.support and at @ca.supportRESOURCES:Australia:InsideOut InstituteThe Butterfly Foundation or call 1800 334 673National Eating Disorder CollaborationLifeline: 13 11 14Suicide Call Back Service: 1300 659 4671800RESPECT: Call 1800 737 732Blue Knot FoundationUK:TalkEDBeat Eating DisordersNational Centre for Eating DisordersNorth America:Alliance for Eating DisordersProject HealEating Disorder HopeMulti-Service Eating Disorders Association (MEDA)National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD)National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) - CanadaNational Eating Disorder AssociationAsian Mental Health Collective (AMHC)For more links and resources, check out our website. Dr Chapman explains the key features of anorexia nervosa, early signs, the psychological and physical impacts, the diagnostic process, and wholistic treatment approaches. She also discusses the importance of early identification and timely intervention, the role of family-based support, and the multifaceted factors that lead to recovery. We also hear from a young expert-by-experience who bravely shares her personal journey with anorexia nervosa. Now in recovery, she reflects on the realities of experiencing anorexia nervosa, the support that made a difference, and what helped them move toward healing. her story brings a powerful and hopeful perspective to the conversation. Then, at 31 she was diagnosed with craniopharyngioma — a rare and recurring brain tumour. When Jamila left the world of the well, her life changed completely, in funny, strange, and harrowing ways.Jamila's book Broken Brains: For anyone who's been sick or loved someone who was is co-authored with Rosie Waterland and published by Penguin Random House. This interview was produced by Alice Moldovan. In this powerful and deeply important episode, we shed light on an often overlooked issue: eating disorders in men. While conditions like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder are frequently associated with women, men suffer too — often in silence, hidden by stigma and misunderstanding. We dive into the real experiences behind these struggles, emphasizing that there is a person behind every illness, battling serious physical and mental health challenges that, in severe cases, can lead to suicidal thoughts.Joining us first is Conor Nolan, a mental health advocate from Blacklion and former student of St Clare's Comprehensive School, Manorhamilton. Conor shares his personal story of developing anorexia at just 12 years old.Conor opens up about how the illness “crept” into his life during early secondary school years. He reflects on feeling "helpless" and "possessed" by his disorder and the long, private road to recovery while trying to maintain a "normal" appearance to the outside world. His book, "Normal", offers personal insights and advice for teenagers, parents, siblings, and friends to better understand and recognize eating disorders early.Today, Conor co-runs the Normal - Mental Wellbeing Project, proudly co-funded by the European Commission, helping young people across Ireland. You can find Conor's book "Normal" on Amazon and in local Irish bookstores. We then welcome Sean Blake, a married father of four from Dublin, who bravely shares his journey of mental health struggles from childhood into adulthood, culminating in his diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa coming into his 30s.Sean discusses the challenges of facing an eating disorder later in life and how being open about his story is helping him heal while hopefully inspiring others.Sean is actively involved in mental health advocacy through Shine, Bodywhys, and St Patrick's Mental Health Services, and he featured in the RTE documentary "Anorexia: My Family & Me."Closing Thoughts:Eating disorders are not just physical illnesses — they are deeply rooted in mental health. They do not discriminate by gender, age, or background. We hope today's conversations with Conor and Sean shine a light on the hidden struggles many endure and encourage listeners to seek help if they need it or to better support those around them.If you or someone you know is affected, please reach out for help:www.shine.ie – Confidential support for mental health recovery. How much mental space does food take up in your life? Do you feel trapped by food rules, guilt, or the pressure to eat a certain way? Let's put on our curiosity hats to explore our relationship with food.In this Salad with a Side of Fries episode, Jenn Trepeck discusses our important relationship with food. From food triggers and guilt-free eating to breaking free from restrictive diets or mindsets, Jenn explores how our thoughts about food impact our daily lives. Plus, she highlights why seeking support can be a game-changer in creating a healthier, more balanced mindset around eating and relationship with food. Tune in next week for the second part of this discussion diving into body image with a special guest! The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store. IN THIS EPISODE: [1:51] Exploring our relationship with food, body shape and being food aware [11:29] Food triggers, guilt-free eating, and the time spent thinking about food[16:28] Food restrictions, One Meal a Day (OMAD), fear food and a discussion on eating disorders[26:22] Judging ourselves for food choices and how we can redirect these feelings[27:40] What a balanced relationship with food looks like[33:20] Exercise, activity choices and wearablesKEY TAKEAWAYS: Many people recall becoming aware of their body size and food choices at a young age, often influenced by family, social environments, and cultural messaging. Restrictive eating patterns are deeply ingrained behaviors influenced by diet culture. These habits contribute to an unhealthy relationship with food, highlighting the importance of re-evaluating these mindsets for overall well-being.Food choices may be driven by fear, competition, or guilt. Instead of restricting, skipping meals, or yo-yo dieting, a balanced approach involves recognizing hunger and satiety, eating various nourishing foods, and honoring your body's needs without anxiety. A balanced lifestyle allows for flexibility—being able to eat at any restaurant without stress, working out without obsessing over steps or missing a day, and removing labels like "good" or "bad" from food choices. The key is self-awareness and making mindful choices rather than engaging in self-sabotage or comparison.QUOTES: [9:44] “The first time I felt I had to watch what I ate was between high school and college. - Jenn Trepeck[14:11] “If we are choosing not to have social plans because we don't want to eat out, or we don't want to eat around other people, we are isolating. We want to look at our relationship to that. - Jenn Trepeck[15:40] “What we learn through the Healthy Vibe Tribe and what I learned that completely changed my life is that it's not actually about the calories. It's about what calories are made of.” -Jenn Trepeck.[2.0:06] “Are we eating to avoid something?” Jenn Trepeck[27:05] “What does a more balanced relationship, a healthier relationship with food, look like? It means eating in a way that nourishes your body and your mind. Guilt and anxiety are not present. It means recognizing hunger and satiety and fullness.” Jenn TrepeckRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramCr-Cr-Cr-CravingsDry Beyond January - Part OneDry Beyond January - Part Two

Today, I'm talking to Prue – an eating disorder recovery warrior and mother, who has type one diabetes and has recovered from anorexia nervosa. Prue has been very generous today in sharing her recovery story. Prue experienced extremely challenging times as a child, having what she calls a ‘text book' narcissistic father. She was then sent to boarding school and separated from her siblings and support network, feeling very abandoned. Prue then developed type 1 diabetes and was navigating this condition, pretty much in isolation. Prue developed anorexia nervosa as a life raft and coping strategy to keep her safe in these hugely difficult circumstances. Today she shares her story openly, describing some of the things that have helped her in healing and ongoing management of diabetes. I hope that you enjoy the conversation. On this episode of All Bodies. All Foods., Ashley and Sam sit down with Laura Maalouf, a multifaceted individual who had previously battled Atypical Anorexia and recently published a self-help journal Not Sick Enough: Atypical Anorexia. Laura's story is one of frustration, resilience, and continued growth; her struggles were minimized, misunderstood, and misdiagnosed every time she reached out for help. Finally receiving the support and validation she had been longing for, she obtained the tools she needed and created a workbook to help others on the same road to recovery. Unfortunately, Laura's story is not uncommon. The medical, mental health, and dietetic fields have perpetuated the myth that only “underweight” bodies experience the symptoms of anorexia. In fact, Atypical Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa share the same exact criteria with the only difference being “body size.” Even though these are technically different diagnoses, the physical and psychological consequences are just as serious. In previous episodes, we've delved into the complex relationship gay men often have with body image shaped by societal expectations and stereotypes that idealize a lean, muscular physique, leading many to experience feelings of inadequacy and self-consciousness about their appearance. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, gay and bisexual boys are significantly more likely to engage in harmful behaviors such as fasting, vomiting, or using laxatives and diet pills to control their weight. In this episode, Roy Belzer, a body-positive fitness coach, joins us to share his personal journey with body image, discuss how he overcame disordered eating, and highlight the importance of inclusive fitness for the health and wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community.Related Episodes:Listen to Episode 32. Feeding Disorders (ARFID & PFD) are relatively new when compared to other more established and commonly understood eating disorders, so it can be difficult to find factual, up-to-date research-backed information and support. Plus, because it's not typically considered a teen disorder, it is overlooked, misdiagnosed or confused with an eating disorder such as Anorexia Nervosa. In this week's episode of the Healthy Teen Life podcast I'm joined by Jaclyn Pederson, CEO of Feeding Matters, to discuss the intricacies of feeding disorders in adolescents. In particular we cover the two often overlooked conditions of Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD). Due to this lack of awareness, it's now becoming more clear these conditions don't just effect babies or young children, but in fact, may be present among adolescents and even adults who were never diagnosed. If you're a teen, young adult, or a concerned parent who believes yourself or a family member to be a picky eater, you'll want to listen in. The episode highlights the signs, symptoms and importance accurate diagnosis; treatment options and the multidisciplinary approach needed for effective treatment; the role of genetics; how to advocate for yourself or a loved one; how to navigate the complexities of these conditions; and where to access resources that provide guidance and support. In school to become a dietitian, I was struggling massively in my relationship with food. Weekly binge episodes that felt like an addict getting their fix - lying, stealing and hiding so I could eat, then crying and feeling depressed for days after. Intense anxiety in any situation that was off my “usual routine” with food - holidays, parties, restaurant meals. I distinctly remember one day, sitting in lecture and learning about eating disorders. The words “Anorexia Nervosa” plastered across the big projector in front of class. Pictured was an emaciated woman standing in front of a mirror that reflected a larger bodied lady back at her. I resonated with all the big 3 eating disorders, but not fully. I had the extreme fear of weight gain of anorexia, but I was never clinically under weight. I had at times fasted, exercised more, or used laxatives after a binge - but not frequently enough to be classified as bulimic. I struggled with the binge eating episodes described in binge eating disorder - but I DID compensate sometimes after a binge. “So”, I reasoned, “I don't have any eating disorder. It must really just be a will power issue then.” And I went back on my not-so-merry way, reading articles from my favorite fitpros every night with advice on how to stick to your plan with food to reach your physique goals. If you can relate, I want you to know these 3 things: ➡️ Relationship with food is a spectrum from normal, healthy eating to a full blown eating disorder. ➡️ “Disordered eating” has serious mental and physical health consequences and requires specific solutions to heal from (hint: not general advice from fit pros or wellness influencers). ➡️ The vast majority of disordered eating involves food restriction, and you can be unhealthily restricting food while still being at a “healthy weight”. The sooner you take your issues seriously, the sooner you can be free from them. This episode of The Binge Eating Dietitian Podcast unpacks eating disorders vs disordered eating and gives you resources for healing! Atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN) is a sub-diagnosis for patients who meet all the criteria for anorexia, except for being underweight. However, the term “atypical” is a glaring misnomer, as AAN affects up to 4.9% of people during their lifetime, whereas anorexia nervosa (AN) affects about 0.6%. Atypical anorexia became a subtype of other specified feeding and eating disorders (OSFED) in 2013, leading to many common misconceptions about the severity of the illness and its best treatment approach. In this episode, Dr. Cara Bohon, licensed clinical psychologist, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University, and Senior Vice President of Clinical Programs at Equip, will explore these diagnostic labels, assess the severity and treatment trajectory for patients with AAN compared to AN, and propose considerations for future diagnostic clarifications. Learning Objectives: Explain the differences (or lack thereof) between atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN) and anorexia nervosa Recognize the severity of AAN and the urgency for treatment Identify necessary components for treatments for AAN If you'd like to obtain continuing education as a psychologist, counselor, social worker, or therapist you can purchase a one-year subscription to Psych Hub's training center. Join us for a compelling episode as we delve into the complexities of eating disorders with our special guest, Dr. Marc Ybaben, a leading expert in the field. Dr. Ybaben provides an in-depth exploration of various eating disorders, offering valuable insights into their diagnostic criteria, underlying causes, and treatment modalities. We begin with Binge Eating Disorder, discussing its diagnostic criteria and how long binge eating must persist before it's considered a disorder. Dr. Ybaben sheds light on the impact of comorbid disorders, genetic and epigenetic factors, early life stressors, and trauma. He also explores the relationship between binge eating and sleep disturbances, and the most effective treatment options, including pharmacotherapy, and the associated relapse rates. The conversation then moves to Anorexia Nervosa, where Dr. Ybaben explains the diagnostic criteria and discusses whether this disorder is primarily related to control. He highlights the influence of early childhood trauma and psychological factors such as perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive traits, and distorted body image. Dr. Ybaben also addresses the severe medical complications of Anorexia Nervosa, its mortality rates, and the effectiveness of various treatment modalities and their success rates. Next, we tackle Bulimia, outlining its diagnostic criteria and the medical complications associated with the disorder. Finally, Coach Vinny, Dr. Eryn and Dr. Ybaben provides their understanding of Orthorexia, an obsession with "healthy" eating that, although not in the DSM V, significantly impacts those affected by it.
