the book of Luke chapter 22. Just one verse I want to pick from there. The message reminds us that when we go in faith with nothing prepared, God supplies; the real faith is faithfulness, not extra savings or risk. Stop creating problems; trust His provision and live simply.

In this talk, Kodo reflects on Faith in Mind as a teaching on living with uncertainty and relinquishing judgment, comparison, and fixed views. Drawing on Dōgen, early Buddhist teachings, and reflections from contemporary teachers, she explores how practice shifts us from self-centered thinking into direct awareness, where impermanence is lived rather than conceptualized. Through sustained meditation, ethical living, and sangha engagement, we gradually loosen the grip of the small self and discover a boundless, compassionate mind capable of meeting life's difficulties with clarity, purpose, and care for others. ★ Support this podcast ★

Welcome back to Drafting the Past. I'm Kate Carpenter, and this is a podcast about the craft of writing history. In this episode, I'm joined by historian and writer Dr. Surekha Davies. Surekha is a former history professor who now writes full-time, and she can also be found speaking about history and consulting on monsters. In fact, monsters have played a major role in much of her research. Her first award-winning book was titled Renaissance Ethnography and the Invention of the Human: New Worlds, Maps, and Monsters. Her second book, which is aimed at a general audience, is out now; it's called Humans: A Monstrous History. The book looks at, as she puts it, how people “have defined the human in relation to everything from apes to zombies, and how they invented race, gender, and nations along the way.” I spoke with Surekha about how she made the switch to full-time writing, her newsletter, Notes from an Everything Historian, and how she organized what could have been an unruly book. Enjoy my conversation with Dr. Surekha Davies.

On Facebook, I posted about Women of Color & access to capital, & it got lot's of like's comments & views. Clearly this is a conversation that needs to be had. People often lament about there not being any viable capital resources for Women of Color and how we can't get into those rooms. But you've seen Mogul Chix® Academy, right? This is not a new conversation. There ARE resources to get WOC in the door and across the threshold. And I have been talking about this since the early 2000's. The conversation has been there. So let's make some inroads to change the narrative. Today I'm giving my insight into why the media headlines will keep us thinking there isn't much out there for us, and what we need to be doing (as founders and investors) to make sure that WOC are getting the access and getting into the rooms to make it happen.
God has given us many promises, and one of those promises is abundant supply. He is our source for everything we need. However, many people try to get their needs met through a relationship with worldly principles, instead of through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus, believers will never have to fear not having enough. Christ is committed to taking care of us, and He always keeps His promise; this is something we can trust in completely. Believing this gives us peace, no matter the situation. When we remember all the times God has already provided for us and delivered us, we cannot help but worship, praise, and thank Him. Among the world's many mysteries, there are few that have captivated scholars more than that of the Voynich Manuscript. It's a text that has been studied for centuries, and we know a good amount about it, but at the same time we really know nothing about it. The book itself is full of strange art, familiar looking charts, and indecipherable writing. But in the larger picture, how and why did coded languages begin in the first place? Hey friends you made it! Welcome!Married, single, dating, and those in between, the relationship status we check off does not define us. These are all temporary states that are a part of us, but not the identifying piece.Jesus has something so juicy, so filling that we just may leave behind what contingencies we thought we we were looking for. In Christ, we have eternity in view, and this not only refocuses our striving, but it allows us to be more fruitful where we are.In John 4, Jesus made a divine appointment with a socially unworthy woman. She went from relationship to relationship, in search of second identity, but in actuality she was losing herself. The more substitutes she erected, the greater the lack gap became truth. But. One conversation later. One opportunity to be find out truth and realize worth and how known she was, she instantly turned away from outside fixes. The Samaritan woman became inside focused and forgot the pursuits of the temporary. Don't you too want to experience the Messiah fill every area of lack? How amazing it is to realize the real why, and reorient your life around that! Her relationship would forever change by one encounter with Christ. Her lack became wholeness, so much so that she had extra; she poured out to the community around her. Y'all, we all need to make and not break this divine appointment with Christ. You know, the one each day that we may honestly breeze past as just something else to check off to do. Jesus is our fullness and our substance to fill any area of lack, including in our relationships. Thanks for listening in this week on the podcast!
