When your industry is everywhere but almost invisible, how do you tell your story? And how can associations help members navigate tariffs, supply chain pressures, and changing market dynamics? In this episode of Associations Thrive, host Joanna Pineda interviews Emily Bardash, Executive Director of the American Wire Producers Association (AWPA). Emily discusses:How AWPA represents companies that manufacture wire and wire products, from bridge cables to tiny springs in Windex bottles. Why “wire is everywhere,” touching construction, infrastructure, agriculture, defense, medical devices, automotive parts, and everyday household products. How AWPA is a small but vital industry association with about 85 members, many of them family-owned businesses. Why association staff must understand each client's unique culture, including details like whether spouses are important at events. How AWPA shifted its advocacy focus from “free and fair access to wire rod” to “building a resilient wire industry across the full supply chain.”How strategic planning helped AWPA's board align around a new mission, vision, and playbook. How AWPA took risks with its annual conference, including booking a higher-end venue, stronger speakers, and better storytelling through photography and video. How AWPA is building momentum through advocacy, LinkedIn, facility tours with members of Congress, and more frequent Hill visits.References:AWPA Website

With this week's edition of the Overdrive Radio podcast, hear our talk with Black Sheep Express three-truck owner-operator and "problem-solver" Sam Kelly, headquartered in Mississippi and Overdrive's April Trucker of the Month, putting him in the running as a semi-finalist for our Trucker of the Year award for 2026: https://www.overdriveonline.com/15823428 If you or your small fleet, up to three trucks, excelled through the rough years since the big fuel run-up and rates shock of 2022, if you've persevered through all of that turmoil, and this year's with war in Iran, you're no doubt a worthy contender. Get your business in the running at https://OvedriveOnline.com/toptrucker Here's wishing everyone in the audience a Memorial Day honoring the fallen for the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States. For this week's podcast, a different sort of honor for Kelly, leased now to CST Lines of Wisconsin in a refrigerated freight operation. Kelly and his two drivers, Bubba Rushing and Rodriguez Byrd, pull a dedicated load outbound from Wisconsin to California, and in the self-dispatch program at CST there Kelly otherwise negotiates and books brokered freight on his own. Often, they're completing a triangle on the return with the Southeast and/or Washington State as the midpoint, depending on the season. Kelly separates himself from the crowd in myriad ways, and perhaps not least in his willingness to be that problem-solver, to take matters into his own hands when plans break down. But Kelly's story is remarkable in other ways, too, particularly with respect to a clear instinct to learn from his own errors in business and in life, adjust accordingly, and come out the other side no less eager to excel through hard times. His drive toward business ownership in his early days trucking was such that he took a 40-some-cents-a-mile company driver job and basically lived in the truck to turn it all into a nest egg for a cash payment for his first power unit. It was a bit of a disaster, that truck, by his account, yet he persisted. When it came time to buy a house, too, he kept his long-term growth goals in focus. Frugality, in essence, would be his wachword As in personal finance, as in business, too, for the owner-operator, who's learned other lesson from those hard times, as you'll hear in this week's podcast. Have you ever noticed that the harder you try to force momentum, the more stuck and drained you feel? In this episode, Nicole breaks down what it really means for Generators and Manifesting Generators to create momentum through the sacral response — and why so many people misunderstand what "following your energy" actually looks like in practice. She shares the subtle ways we disconnect from our bodies, overthink our next move, and accidentally drain the very energy we're trying to create. Nicole also explores the difference between fear and misalignment, and why many people assume they're "off path" when they're actually just caught in conditioning or mental pressure. Through relatable examples from content creation, business, and everyday life, she shows how presence becomes the key to unlocking clarity, creativity, and sustainable momentum. You'll also hear Nicole unpack why Human Design is meant to be integrated, not just intellectually understood. From sacral engagement to intuitive expression, this conversation highlights how understanding your design can help you stop forcing outcomes and start working with your natural energy in a way that feels lighter, more effective, and far more satisfying. Plus, Nicole shares insights about the energetic shifts leading into 2027 and why learning how to guide yourself and others differently is becoming more important than ever. If you've been feeling disconnected from the way you used to work, create, or lead, this episode may help you understand why. Unspoken Words: A Selective Mutism Podcast by Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum
Episode 75 of the Unspoken Words podcast features Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum and Dr. Jenna Blum answering some of the most commonly submitted listener questions received at the SMart Center — covering peer engagement, school transitions, and a topic that doesn't get nearly enough airtime: grief.Dr. E and Dr. Jenna tackle why children with SM can speak freely at home yet go completely silent around peers, break down the critical difference between responding and initiating, and make the case for why facilitation — not waiting — is the most important thing parents and school professionals can do. Through real case examples, they illustrate how pairing children around high-interest activities like chess clubs and baking projects creates the comfort and connection that must come before communication can follow. The second half turns to grief — specifically, how to process the sadness of not having received proper SM treatment as a child, and what it feels like to watch younger generations succeed while carrying the weight of years of ineffective therapy. Dr. E and Dr. Jenna offer clinical perspective and genuine reassurance, and introduce gratitude journaling as a practical tool for shifting focus from deficits to wins. The episode closes with a timely reminder that the end of the school year is the right time to start planning for the next one — from 504 and IEP updates, to summer peer pairings, to building transitions — and why the tone parents bring to that process matters more than they may realize.--Chapters: (03:23) Introducing the Initiation Gap and Why Facilitation Can't Wait(08:53) How High-Interest Activities Build the Comfort and Connection That Precedes Communication(18:03) What If My Life Had Been Different? One of the hardest moments in the retreat business is the quiet period after you launch something. You announce your retreat. You post about it. You send emails. And then… crickets. In this solo episode, Shannon Jamail talks about why slow results are not a sign that something is wrong. In fact, momentum in the retreat industry is rarely sudden — it's usually the result of consistent, focused action over time. Shannon breaks down the common traps retreat leaders fall into when results don't appear quickly, including shiny object syndrome, comparison traps, and abandoning strategies too soon. She also shares practical tools to help retreat leaders stay focused, track the right metrics, and build systems that create sustainable momentum. If you've ever questioned whether your retreat marketing is working, this episode will help you stay the course and keep building. What You'll Learn Why the "launch and crickets" phase is normal How retreat leaders sabotage their own momentum The difference between outcome metrics and activity metrics The 90-day focus rule for marketing Tools to maintain energy, discipline, and consistency Key Takeaways Most retreat leaders quit right before traction begins. Early signs of success are often small signals, not bookings. Consistency compounds over time. Systems reduce the emotional rollercoaster of entrepreneurship. Momentum comes from focused action sustained long enough to work. Episode Breakdown Why Retreat Leaders Stall Many retreat leaders experience the "launch and crickets" moment and assume their strategy isn't working. Often the real issue isn't the strategy — it's abandoning it too soon. Common traps include: Shiny object syndrome Constant pivoting Comparing your beginning to someone else's middle The truth is that many leaders quit right before momentum begins. Redefining What "Working" Looks Like Most leaders focus only on bookings. But bookings are the final step in a longer chain of signals. Early indicators that your marketing is working include: Direct messages Profile visits Email opens Questions from potential guests Conversations starting Instead of only tracking bookings, create a simple weekly effort scorecard and measure activity. The 90-Day Focus Rule One of the biggest mistakes retreat leaders make is constantly switching strategies. Instead, commit to one primary marketing channel for 90 days before evaluating results. Choose the platform where your ideal guest already spends time. Then give the strategy enough time to compound. A helpful tool is scheduling a weekly CEO Hour where you review progress without reacting emotionally to short-term results. Protecting Your Energy & Mindset Discouragement happens to every entrepreneur. The key is learning how to use it as information rather than letting it derail your progress. Create a momentum anchor — a list of past wins you can revisit when doubt creeps in. Another helpful tool is an evidence file. Save screenshots of: Kind messages Testimonials Bookings Positive feedback These reminders reinforce that progress is happening. Systems That Create Consistency Consistency becomes easier when systems are in place. Some simple examples include: Batch creating content so you're not starting from scratch every day Automating follow-up emails and reminders Creating simple marketing workflows Remember: a consistent B+ effort will outperform sporadic A+ bursts every time. Accountability Structures That Actually Work Entrepreneurship can feel isolating. Accountability structures help maintain momentum. One simple format is a weekly check-in with an accountability partner: What did I commit to? What did I actually do? What is my one focus next week? Tools like Notion, Trello, or even a simple notebook can support this system. The best tool is the one you will actually use. Final Takeaway Momentum is not created by doing more. It comes from doing the right things consistently - long enough to see them work. If you stay the course, traction will come. The AAC has launched a new grant, called the Momentum Grant, to fund intermediate to advanced alpine adventures, with a focus on ice, mixed, rock, and ski-alpinist objectives. The Momentum grant is in partnership with the family of Austin Mallet, in honor of Austin. Austin was a Texas native who developed a deep passion for big mountain objectives, but whose time was cut short by a tragic avalanche in 2024. Austin approached climbing with incredible discipline and sought to grow his skillset and develop his mountain craft at every opportunity. The Momentum Grant will preserve Austin's spirit by supporting the projects of passionate climbers seeking to elevate their skills in big mountain environments. To get applicants inspired by Austin's story, and to share about the kinds of projects the grant funds, we had some of Austin's closest friends on the podcast, to share stories of his adventures and mountain philosophy. In this episode, we hear memories from his partner, Emily McKay, and two of his close climbing friends, Chris Labosky and Aiden Whitelaw. We explore Austin's never-ending psych for adventure, his dialed planning methods, his generosity, his deep belief in his climbing partners, and much more. In this episode of Life Rewired, Kristina explores what it really means to build momentum when motivation feels nonexistent. Rather than pushing harder or waiting for the perfect mindset, she reframes progress as something that comes from small, intentional actions that reduce resistance and rebuild trust with yourself. This episode challenges the idea that motivation is required for change and instead focuses on sustainable ways to keep moving forward, even during low energy or high stress seasons.Drawing from her own experiences in business, health, and personal growth, Kristina shares how momentum is often created through structure, simplicity, and nervous system awareness. She discusses why lowering expectations can actually increase consistency, how short bouts of focused effort protect energy, and why starting before you feel ready is often the key to lasting change. The conversation emphasizes meeting yourself where you are rather than forcing intensity that leads to burnout. This episode serves as a reminder that progress does not have to be dramatic to be effective. By focusing on small wins, gentle consistency, and supportive environments, listeners are encouraged to shift away from all-or-nothing thinking and toward a more balanced, sustainable approach to growth. This episode is for anyone feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from motivation, and is a reminder that momentum is built through action, not perfection.WATCH ON YOUTUBE:https://www.youtube.com/@kristinaturnure/podcastsBALANCED BLUEPRINT MEMBERSHIP:https://builtgroupcoaching.my.canva.site/balancedblueprintmembershipBUILT AND BALANCED VIP COACHING:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScV_IGO2VhRV415iIsiHz6TGr76wuH-loG2eGt068pZG474qw/viewform BUILT & BALANCED NEWSLETTER:https://builtandbalanced.kit.com/dd0f3197ccLIFE REWIRED IG:https://www.instagram.com/LIFEREWIREDPODCAST/?utm_medium=copy_linkKRIS IG:https://www.instagram.com/kristinaturnure/?hl=enNASH BARS:https://nashnutrition.co/PTULA: DISCOUNT CODE KRISTINAT https://www.ptula.com/TRANSPARENT LABS: CODE KRISTINA https://athlete.transparentlabs.com/kristinaturnure

Welcome back everyone! As you all know this Podcast's purpose is to be able to come together and talk about growth, courage, and the small steps that help us build a healthier, kinder life. We are your hosts today, Luis & Ashlee, and today we're diving into Week One of your SMART fitness goals, that crucial first stretch where excitement meets reality. If you've set fitness goals for the new year, this episode is for you. If you meant to set goals but haven't started yet, this episode is also for you.And if you're already feeling yourself slipping a little… you're definitely in the right place. Let's get into it. We'll go into "WHY WEEK ONE MATTERS" Week One is powerful. It sets the tone. It builds momentum. It teaches your brain, “Hey, we're doing this now.” But Week One is also where people tend to overdo it, burn out, or get discouraged. So today, we're going to slow it down and focus on SMART goals.Last week we touched on what those are, but just as a quick refresher here, smart goals that are: Specific / Measurable / Achievable / Relevant / Time‑bound and we're going to talk about how to stay accountable in a way that feels supportive, not stressful. Because fitness isn't punishment. It's a form of self‑respect."SETTING YOUR WEEK ONE SMART FITNESS GOAL"Let's walk through a simple Week One SMART goal. A lot of people start with something like: “I'm going to work out every day for an hour.” That sounds great… until life happens.A SMART Week One goal might look like: “For the next 7 days, I'll walk for 15 minutes, three times this week, to boost my energy and build consistency. ”Notice the difference: It's clear, It's doable, It's flexible, It builds confidence instead of pressure. Here are a few more. Week One SMART fitness goal examples: “I'll stretch for 5 minutes every morning before I check my phone.” “I'll drink one extra glass of water each day this week.” “I'll do a 10‑minute beginner workout on Tuesday and Thursday.” Week One is about showing up, not showing off.Let's dive into the next piece: "HOW TO TRACK YOUR FIRST WEEK" Tracking is where SMART goals come alive. It turns invisible effort into visible progress. Here are simple ways to track Week One:A calendar with check-marksA notes appA fitness appA whiteboardA sticky note on your mirrorThe method doesn't matter. What matters is that you can see your consistency. Because when you see progress, you want to keep going.Let's talk about "ACCOUNTABILITY WITHOUT SHAME". Let's talk accountability, the supportive kind, not the “beat yourself up” kind. Here are four ways to stay accountable in Week One:Choose an accountability partner who roots for youNot someone who pressures you. Someone who says, “How can I support you today?”Celebrate micro‑wins. Did you walk for 10 minutes instead of 15? That's still a win. You showed up.Adjust instead of abandoning. If your goal feels too big, shrink it. If it feels too small, grow it. Adjusting is not failing, it's strategizing.Use “habit anchors” Attach your fitness action to something you already do: After brushing your teeth → stretchAfter lunch → take a 10‑minute walkAfter work → fill your water bottleAnchors make habits automatic. aka habit stacking"WHAT TO EXPECT EMOTIONALLY IN WEEK ONE"Let's be real. Week One isn't just physical. It's emotional. You might feel:ExcitedNervousImpatientProudDoubtfulAll of the aboveThis is normal.Your brain is adjusting to a new pattern. Your body is waking up. Your mindset is shifting. So just give yourself grace guys..You're not supposed to be perfect... you're supposed to be present."A QUICK GUIDED REFLECTION"Take a breath with me. Think about the fitness goal you set. Now ask yourself:Why does this matter to me?How do I want to feel at the end of this week? What's one small action I can take today to support that feeling?Hold onto that answer. That's your anchor. If you're starting your fitness journey this week, I'm proud of you. If you're restarting, I'm proud of you too and if you're listening because you want to feel inspired again… you're already on your way. Thanks for joining us today on the Podcast! If this episode helped you, share it with someone who's setting their own goals this year. And remember — kindness, consistency, and small steps will take you farther than perfection ever will. So as always be kind to yourself and everyone else, be that change you want to see in the world and keep being You!See you next time! Tip of the Day:Week One is about building trust with yourself. Every small step counts. Every checkmark matters. Every moment you choose to show up, even for five minutes, is a victory.Shoutouts!
