Paul J. Mills shares beautifully about his journey with the sacred feminine and a realisation in his 50's that he'd been shut down in many ways for most of his life, focusing on the mental realms, and neglecting his emotions. We go on to chat about Paul's latest book, Science, Being, & Becoming: the Spiritual Lives of Scientists, which emphasises the importance of merging science and spirituality; shares stories from scientists whose lives have been transformed through spiritual experiences; and describes his vision for the future of humanity and Earth founded on love. We also touch on how science has been highly patriarchal and how it has - for many - become about power and profit rather than true a quest for truth, and end on an inspiring message of hope about the collective, love-centred awakening process taking place on our planet at the moment. Enjoy! Paul's gift: excerpt from Science, Being, & BecomingPersonal Self Integration (PSI) course: helps a person meet and integrate their feminine and masculine selves.Support the showThank you for listening, I appreciate you! There's a reason the tagline for this show is “business with a soul.” It's because of the undeniable connection between business success and spirituality. So who better to explore this connection than the author of a book about the spiritual lives of scientists, Paul J. Mills, Ph.D. In my fascinating interview with Paul, we discuss how “spiritual” topics and perspectives are sometimes seen as “off-limits” to those engaged in scientific or business fields. But Paul makes the argument that there is an important place for the spiritual in scientific fields, and by extension, in business as well. I myself believe that inevitably, those of us who are self-employed bring our whole selves to our businesses – and so if we consider ourselves spiritual people, we're almost inescapably going to bring that part of ourselves to our businesses. And as Paul expresses, completely closing off our spiritual side from our ‘work life' (be it science or business) robs us of a whole realm of valuable resources that we could use in our work lives, such as imagination and intuition. Dr. Paul J. Mills is Professor of Public Health and Family Medicine and Director of the Center of Excellence for Research and Training in Integrative Health at the University of California, San Diego. He has over 400 scientific publications in the fields of pharmacology, oncology, cardiology, psychoneuroimmunology, behavioral medicine, and integrative health. His work has been featured in many national media outlets and he has presented at hundreds of conferences and workshops around the world. His new book is Science, Being, & Becoming: The Spiritual Lives of Scientists. Highlights Metaphysical experiences in childhood stimulated Paul's curiosity about metaphysics. He eventually discovered that other scientists had similar experiences. People on the metaphysical path no longer have to apologize for or hide their beliefs. There have been many studies that prove the validity of the effects of things like meditation and yoga. Thirty-one scientists were interviewed for the book about their metaphysical experiences. Paul shares one of their stories. Everyone has the inherent urge to find out who they are. The metaphysical experiences allow one to recognize their creative power. Our education systems don't teach us to recognize our innate powers. Paul shares about the difficulty in finding ways to express his views within the academic framework. He talks about what he has done to reduce the stress. Following a spiritual path often leads to greater creativity. When we aren't allowed to follow the inner urge to find out who we are, suppressing that urge often leads to anger and other uncomfortable emotions. Often, young children aren't allowed to express who they are. Fortunately, some education systems outside of the public school system allow that to happen. Paul's interest in psychoneuroimmunology (the connection between emotions and health) started with his study of the immune system. Humans are a beautifully integrated system and Western science is beginning to appreciate that. It takes a long time for medicine to talk with published science and what every day people are experiencing. What we enjoy as children are often guideposts for our future life. Depression is often the result of our not living the lives we were meant to live. Links Paul Mills website

Paul J. Mills – Science, Being, & BecomingAired Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM ESTFor several centuries, science has been stuck in a materialist world view, with the central assumption being that everything is essentially material or physical, even our minds. Contrary to popular belief, not all scientists are materialists fervently discounting the spiritual. My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Professor Paul J. Dr. Paul J. Mills takes a look at the similarities between spirituality and those of the scientific mind. Dr. Mills has over 400 publications in the fields of pharmacology, oncology, cardiology and behavioural medicine.
Western medicine rarely discusses the electromagnetic field that surrounds and permeates the human body. Commonly known as chakras or the biofield, these energy centers are a collection of our stored life events, both positive and traumatic. Medical Intuitives read a person’s mind, body, and spirit to discover the root cause of illnesses. To bring to light the difference between medical intuition from other energy healing modalities, Positive Psychology Podcast Host Lisa Cypers Kamen speaks with three Medical Intuitives who steer patients toward healing using training and intuition. Wendie Colter created the accreditive Medical Intuitive Training Program. She discusses her practice and The Practical Path for intuitive development. And, Professor Paul Mills and Reverend Tiffany Barsotti describe the focus of Medical Intuitives and how positive psychology aids the healing process.
Wonderful discussion with my old friend, research and spiritual mentor Dr. Paul Mills. Paul J. Mills was Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health and Director of the Center of Excellence for Research and Training in Integrative Health. He was also Chief of the UC San Diego Behavioral Medicine Division, Director of the UC San Diego Clinical Research Biomarker Laboratory, and Co-director of the UC San Diego Clinical and Translational Research Institute’s Translational Research Technology (TRT) Program. He is currently serving as Director of Research for the Chopra Foundation. He has expertise in Integrative Medicine, Traditional Medical systems, and psychoneuroimmune processes in wellness and disease, publishing numerous manuscripts and book chapters on these topics. Dr. Paul Mills has been an inspirational figure in many lives, we look back on his career and forward to his continued work bridging the spiritual and the scientific. Enjoy.
Ever heard of Glyphosate? If not, it's likely you've heard of the product "Roundup", the weed killer. It's been in the news a lot because jurors in three separate trials have agreed that exposure to Roundup caused plaintiff's non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and awarded a total of $2.4 billion in compensation and punitive damages against its manufacturer. New dangers now appear to be presenting themselves. A condition known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which increases risks of cirrhosis and liver cancer, is on the rise, as are deaths from the disease. Investigators at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine have recently reported an association between glyphosate, the ingredient in Roundup, and this serious liver disease. In today's episode, Therese and Dr. Paul Mills, one of the authors of the study, discuss the evidence for this association. Key Takeaways: Glyphosate and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) are detectable in urine, and their levels have been increasing over time. Prior to the introduction of Genetically Modified Crops, and the agricultural use of Roundup, it was practically non-detectable in humans. Glyphosate residue was higher in the urine of subjects with liver disease regardless of possible underlying factors such as age, body mass index, or race. "Glyphosate, as you must know, it's only just one of so many other herbicides and insecticides and fungicides also used on crops. So we've been exposed to hundreds of novel compounds that we weren't evolved and designed to really deal with and process metabolically and otherwise." — Dr. Paul Mills Connect with Dr. Paul Mills: UCSD Profile: Paul J.
