Welcome to The Turf Zone podcast. This episode features the article “Preparing for the Next Poa Control Season” by Scott McElroy, PhD – Professor, Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, Auburn University and and Travis Gannon, PhD – Professor, Department of Crop and Soil Science, North Carolina State University. Quote – “When did Noah build the Ark? Before the Rain.” – Robert Redford in “Spy Game” It is the end of Poa annua's life span here in the southeast. As this article is being written in late May, Poa is struggling to produce that last bit of seed it can before it dies, perpetuating whatever traits it carries into the future. Likely, if you have been trying to control Poa, you are looking down at a population that has been selected for some form of resistance to the herbicides you have been using. The short-time traveler seeds are going to greet you next November-ish. As warm-season grasses are sliding into dormancy, or at least a state of slowed or diminished growth, those seeds carrying those herbicide-defying traits are going to make their appearance, potentially thwarting whatever attempt you used last year yet again. Before you start making decisions about your management program next year, you need to test your Poa population. Two populations from this year were showing signs of Kerb resistance until we brought them into the lab and realized that it was not resistance, but most likely enhanced degradation due to overuse. Email Dr. McElroy at resistancelab@auburn.edu and get a better picture of what your population is resistant to. For most herbicides, you can get an answer in six weeks. For the southeastern US, there are three distinct application periods for Poa control. This is for bermudagrass and zoysiagrass golf, sports fields, professional lawn care, and general use. Golf and sports fields are the most complicated because they receive the most traffic and use, therefore the greater turfgrass damage, which leads to greater weed invasion. The application scenarios we talk about here are more likely to be used in golf than in other areas, but applicable to all situations except sports, which require special attention to not reduce rooting and traction. The Pre Application- The Basis of Control. In all situations, you want to start off with a general preemergence herbicide. If in golf and non-sports turfgrass areas, this is Specticle (indaziflam) or a standard pre like Barricade (prodiamine), Pendulum (pendimethalin), or Dimension (dithiopyr). In our opinion, this is the optimal application timing for Specticle (indaziflam). Specticle should not be used on sports fields, it is a root inhibitor and can result in poor-performing turfgrass. Regardless of which herbicide, the initial pre application is the basis of all Poa control programs. Skipping the pre puts greater pressure on follow-up postemergent applications. Even if pre-applications only reduce the Poa population by 50%, that is still 50% fewer weeds that follow-up applications have to deal with. Later applications are much more likely to fail if you put all the pressure on follow-up post applications. Adding in a postemergent herbicide at this time is not a bad idea, but it needs to have some residual and some root uptake because your pre needs to be watered in. Monument (trifloxysulfuron) is possible because it can be foliar absorbed, but Revolver (foramsulfuron) has limited root uptake. Others are using Sencor (metribuzin) in this timing. The Winter Transition: Key to Resistance Management. The early winter, or early winter transition application, is the most critical. Skipping this application leads to too much pressure being placed on the initial pre application which can expedite resistance development. This application needs to yield acceptable control in two to three weeks, which eliminates any resistant survivors that may be present and provides further preemergence control. The key to the transition application is choosing multiple herbicides with a minimum of three different modes of action, with at least two having preemergence and postemergence activity. To clarify- Three modes of action with two having both pre and post activity. Triazines – atrazine and simazine – are the starting point for this control. Think of these as your Post/Pre herbicides, they are primarily post but give you some pre activity. Sencor (metribuzin) is also an option, although not as consistently effective as atrazine or simazine. If these herbicides are not available for use or if you have extensive confirmed resistance, ALS inhibitors such as Revolver (foramsulfuron), Monument (trifloxysulfuron), or Katana (flazasulfuron) are useful, as is Scepter (imazaquin). Next, you need a Pre/Post in the mix – a herbicide that gives you primarily pre action but adds in some post control. Kerb (pronamide/propyzamide) and Sureguard (flumioxazin) are good choices at this timing. A second application of Specticle also has potential in this situation, although it has less post activity than the two listed above. Ronstar (oxadiazon) applied as a liquid to provide post activity also has potential in this timing. Last in the mix you need something that can aid control and help prevent resistance. Glyphosate is the obvious choice in this mixture. If you are not completely dormant, a low rate at 5 fl oz/a (of a 4 lb ai gallon) can add some benefit, but if confident in the dormancy, use a full labeled rate on dormant turfgrass. Finale (glufosinate) is a good substitute if glyphosate resistance is present or developing. Neither glyphosate or glufosinate are recommended for zoysiagrass, adding in a Revolver, Katana, or another ALS inhibitor is a better choice due to potential damage from non-selective herbicides. The Spring Transition – Control Any Escapes and Spring Crabgrass Control. Combining any further Poa annua control with spring crabgrass and goosegrass control is an easy way to maximize efficiency. This pushes the herbicide application into late February to early March for the majority of the southeastern United States (time applications to your specific area based on local weather patterns and soil temperatures). Dormancy questions and spring greenup of bermudagrass or zoysiagrass complicate this application timing. Some herbicides are simply too harsh on greenup to be used in this period. First, the standard pre herbicides should be used at this time – Barricade (prodiamine), Pendulum (pendimethalin), Dimension (dithiopyr), or Ronstar (oxadiazon, granular is not dormant, but liquid can be used if still dormant). While Specticle is more effective for Poa annua control and summer annuals such as goosegrass and doveweed, it is equivalent to the standards for crabgrass control. Second, post herbicides that can be used in this transition period are few. ALS-inhibitors mentioned before are definitely safe, but resistance is extensive, thwarting their use. Triazines can delay greenup and cause transition injury. Non-selectives such as glyphosate and glufosinate are out due to spring injury. Final Thought. Herbicides are primary technology we have today to control weeds. We live in a chemical technological age. Unfortunately, weeds, especially Poa annua, have evolved resistance to these herbicides. Our thoughts and ideas we provide herein are meant to reduce the potential for resistance development and all herbicide options are not discussed for brevity. These multi-herbicide strategies now are necessary because herbicide resistance has become so prevalent and it is our goal to strategically use these herbicides to prevent further resistance development and protect herbicide technology for future use. Note: Always read and follow the complete herbicide label before mixing, handling, or applying any product, as the label provides legally required directions for safe, effective use, application rates, precautions, and site-specific restrictions. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States. Our add-on food label distinguishes soil-grown fruits and vegetables from hydroponically-raised produce, and pasture-raised meat, milk, and eggs from products harvested from animals in horrific confinement (CAFOs - confined animal feeding operations). To find a Real Organic farm near you, please visit: https://www.realorganicproject.org/directory We believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront. After her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Martha left her career in accounting and began investigating the root causes behind chronic illness. Her research eventually led her to the White House Microbiome Initiative, collaborations with leading microbiome scientists, and years of studying how modern environmental exposures may influence human health. Together, Josh and Martha discuss how toxic burden develops over decades through food, water, household chemicals, pesticides, heavy metals, and other environmental factors. They explore the growing evidence connecting glyphosate, paraquat, EMFs, and other modern exposures to disruptions in the gut microbiome, chronic inflammation, and immune system signaling. Rather than focusing on symptom management, this episode emphasizes a root cause approach to healing—helping listeners understand how the microbiome, immune system, and environmental health interact to influence everything from digestive disorders to neurological disease. If you're interested in gut health, microbiome science, inflammation, environmental medicine, and reversing chronic illness naturally, this is an episode you won't want to miss. Brian introduces Zen Honeycutt, founder of Moms Across America, which grew from efforts to label GMOs into a national nonprofit focused on reducing pesticide and toxin exposure through education and extensive testing that has found glyphosate in items including tap water, urine, breast milk, foods, and other products. Honeycutt describes launching a legislative arm (Moms Across America Movement/"Yes Ma'am") to promote health-focused policy, discusses MAHA-era progress and perceived corporate pushback, and urges contacting representatives via calls, email, visits, and X. She shares outcomes from switching to organic, including a story of a child's mental health improving, and recounts her son's strict organic veganism, subsequent nutrient/toxin findings (including thallium, mycotoxins, DDT), and suicide, informing proposed newborn genetic disclosure and EPA reforms. The conversation also covers EMFs, vaccine safety, microplastics, and major concerns about data centers' noise, energy, and water impacts. You guys know I am a HUGE believer in the right supplements and the right protocols. So when I tell you that today's episode is about the FOUNDATION underneath ALL of it, lean in. Modern scientists believe we are operating at only thirty-seven to forty percent of the mineral levels our bodies actually need. Minerals are the only nutrient class your body cannot make. They are the foundation under hormones, gut, sleep, energy, hair, and yes, even under the great supplements you are already taking. This is the conversation midlife women have been waiting for. I sat down with Caroline Alan, founder of BEAM Minerals and author of The Mineral Reset, published by Hay House (with a foreword by Dr. Mindy Pelz, who called it "a lifeline"). Caroline was the woman doing everything right at 50 and still falling apart. Brain fog. Hair loss. Inflammation. Three miscarriages. Doctors told her it was just normal aging. She went deep into the science of minerals and it changed everything for her. This is NOT anti-supplement. This is the FOUNDATION that finally makes the supplements and protocols you are already loving actually land. Is glyphosate really safe? What happens if it's banned? Is modern American farming under attack? This week on Talk Dirt To Me, we're joined in studio by Tennessee State Representative Rusty Grills and Tennessee Soybean Promotion Council Executive Director Stefan Maupin for one of our most candid and hard-hitting conversations yet. We kick things off by tackling an issue that rarely makes headlines but is costing farmers millions every year: deer damage to crops. As urban sprawl continues to expand, exploding deer populations are creating a growing crisis for row crop farmers across Tennessee and the United States. Then we dive headfirst into the biggest controversy in agriculture today: glyphosate. We break down the recent Supreme Court ruling involving Bayer/Monsanto, what the decision actually means, and answer the questions everyone is asking: • Is glyphosate safe? • Could modern agriculture survive without glyphosate? • What would food prices and crop production look like if it were banned? • If glyphosate is outlawed, what's next? • Is the MAHA movement helping farmers or hurting them? We also discuss the growing divide between farmers and consumers, why it feels like agriculture is now taking criticism from every direction, and what farmers can do to better tell their story. Finally, we examine the influence of major voices like Shawn Ryan and Joe Rogan, discussing what happens when massive platforms amplify critics of modern farming and how the agricultural community should respond. Whether you're a farmer, rancher, policymaker, or simply someone who wants to understand where your food comes from, this is a conversation you won't want to miss. The problem might not be your discipline. It might be your gut. We expose why most probiotics may be dead before they reach you, how glyphosate wipes out your good bacteria, the hidden gut-brain link, and why a damaged microbiome makes belly fat almost impossible to lose. If you've been blaming yourself for symptoms you can't shake, this one changes everything. Talking Points & Questions Opening: Is it true someone can eat clean, exercise daily, and still have their gut secretly causing belly fat, brain fog, and inflammation? The probiotic problem Most probiotics die before reaching the gut. Are millions wasting money on fake probiotics? Why do so many people get more bloated and sick after taking probiotics? What's the biggest lie the probiotic industry has sold consumers? Food supply & warning signs What are the biggest warning signs your gut is poisoning your body before disease shows up? Glyphosate kills good bacteria but lets harmful bacteria survive. Is modern food destroying our microbiome? Gut, belly fat & the brain Can a damaged microbiome make it almost impossible to lose stubborn belly fat? What's the connection between gut bacteria, brain fog, anxiety, low motivation, and depression? Longevity & stress Microbiome diversity predicts longevity. What are most people doing daily that's quietly shortening their lifespan? Stress lowers stomach acid and can lead to SIBO. Could chronic stress alone be wrecking millions of guts? The fix With belly fat, cravings, fatigue, constipation, skin problems, or brain fog, what's the first thing you'd fix in their gut? Fish Oil Supplements And Alzheimer's-Related Decline A two-year randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial led by researchers at USC tested whether 2,000 mg of DHA fish oil daily could slow Alzheimer's-related brain changes in 365 adults ages 55–80 who rarely consumed fish and had at least one Alzheimer's risk factor. Researchers confirmed the supplement reached the brain by measuring a roughly 17% increase in cerebrospinal fluid DHA after six months. Despite successfully increasing brain DHA levels, participants taking fish oil showed no significant improvements in memory, global cognitive function, or hippocampal volume compared to placebo after two years. Host Dave Asprey explains why raising a single biomarker doesn't always translate into better brain performance, why nutrition works differently inside a complete dietary pattern than as an isolated supplement, and what this study means for anyone relying on fish oil as an Alzheimer's prevention strategy. Sources: https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-06-fish-oil-supplements-alzheimer-decline.pdf https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/18/health/omega-3-fish-oil-algae-supplement-wellness ~~ DASH Diet Showed the Strongest Link to Long-Term Brain Health Researchers from Harvard analyzed dietary data from 159,347 participants across three long-running U.S. health studies to examine how eating patterns influence cognitive aging. Participants completed dietary questionnaires every four years over several decades, allowing investigators to compare six healthy dietary patterns, including the DASH and Mediterranean diets. While all six were associated with better cognitive health later in life, adherence to the DASH diet produced the strongest association, with participants showing roughly a 40% lower risk of subjective cognitive decline and stronger performance on objective cognitive testing. The protective relationship was strongest when healthy eating habits began during midlife. Host Dave Asprey breaks down why blood sugar control, lower inflammation, and healthier blood vessels may be the real drivers behind long-term brain resilience, and why your dietary choices in your 40s and 50s may have an outsized impact on cognitive aging decades later. Sources: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/article-abstract/2845466 https://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-nutrition/harvard-study-six-healthy-diets-linked-with-better-long-term-brain-health https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1117225 ~~ Scientists Identified an Ancient Brain Circuit That Filters Distractions Johns Hopkins researchers discovered a small population of inhibitory neurons within an evolutionarily ancient brainstem region that appears to control selective attention by determining which sensory information deserves focus and which distractions should be ignored. Mice trained on visual attention tasks consistently ignored irrelevant stimuli until researchers temporarily silenced these neurons, causing even weak distractions to hijack their attention while leaving vision and movement otherwise unaffected. Similar brain circuits exist in birds, reptiles, and other vertebrates, suggesting this attentional filtering system evolved long before the modern human cortex. Host Dave Asprey explains why attention may depend on much older brain circuitry than previously believed, how this discovery could reshape our understanding of ADHD and autism, and why future therapies may target the brainstem instead of the prefrontal cortex. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260624025426.htm ~~ Nearly Half of Older Adults Improved With Age Instead of Declining A Yale-led study followed 11,340 adults age 65 and older for up to 12 years using repeated measurements of cognition and walking speed to better understand how aging changes over time. Rather than finding universal decline, researchers discovered that 45% of participants improved in either cognitive function, physical performance, or both. Nearly one-third experienced measurable cognitive improvements, while over one-quarter improved physically. Researchers also found that participants with more positive beliefs about aging were significantly more likely to improve, even after accounting for education, chronic illness, depression, and other health factors. Host Dave Asprey explores why expectations about aging may become biologically embedded, why decline is far less inevitable than conventional medicine often assumes, and how mindset may directly influence healthy longevity. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260620100428.htm ~~ Glyphosate May Be Contributing to Antibiotic-Resistant Superbugs Researchers publishing in Frontiers in Microbiology examined 102 bacterial strains collected from hospitals, agricultural land, and protected wetlands to investigate whether glyphosate exposure contributes to multidrug antibiotic resistance. Hospital bacteria demonstrated extensive resistance to both antibiotics and glyphosate, while even bacteria living inside protected nature reserves displayed measurable glyphosate resistance despite no direct herbicide application. Genetic analysis suggested resistant bacterial strains may move between agricultural environments and hospitals through shared waterways and sediments. The researchers argue pesticide safety testing should also evaluate whether chemicals encourage antibiotic resistance, one of the world's fastest-growing public health threats. Host Dave Asprey explains why environmental toxins may have unintended effects on the human microbiome, how herbicides could influence antimicrobial resistance beyond farming, and why environmental biology increasingly belongs in conversations about human health. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260620100434.htm https://www.openaccessgovernment.org/common-weedkiller-glyphosate-linked-to-rise-in-superbugs-scientists-warn/207515/ ~~ Butterflies That Barely Age Could Unlock New Longevity Pathways Researchers from the University of Bristol found that Heliconius butterflies live dramatically longer than closely related butterfly species while aging much more slowly. In one comparison, Heliconius hewitsoni survived up to 348 days, while a closely related species lived only 14 days. Unlike most butterflies, Heliconius feed on pollen throughout adulthood, providing amino acids that help preserve muscle function and physical performance with age. However, even when pollen was removed, these butterflies still significantly outlived their relatives, suggesting evolved genetic and metabolic mechanisms also contribute to their exceptional longevity. Host Dave Asprey explores why nature continues to provide unexpected models for slowing biological aging, what scientists hope to learn from species that naturally maintain function over time, and how comparative biology may uncover entirely new pathways for extending human healthspan. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260622014302.htm ~~ This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity enthusiasts, and high-performance listeners who want mechanism-level insights into omega-3 supplementation and Alzheimer's prevention, nutrition strategies for preserving cognitive health, newly discovered brain circuits controlling attention, the surprising biology behind healthy aging, environmental drivers of antibiotic resistance, and what one remarkably long-lived butterfly can teach us about extending healthspan. Host Dave Asprey connects randomized clinical trials, large population studies, neuroscience discoveries, microbiology research, and evolutionary biology into practical frameworks for improving brain performance, resilience, and longevity. Did you know that there is a conceptual change in science that includes a broader understanding of how pollutants and our microbiome interact to impact the development of disease? Join Food Sleuth Radio host and Registered Dietitian, Melinda Hemmelgarn for her conversation with Robin Mesnage, PhD, toxicologist, Scientific Director at the Buchinger Wilhelmi Therapeutic Fasting program in Uberlingen Germany, and visiting research fellow in the dept. of Nutritional Sciences at King's College, London. Mesnage spoke at the Glyphosate Symposium at the U. of WA-Seattle in March, 2026. He shares his insight into how glyphosate, and more specifically Round-up herbicide affects the liver and microbiome. He also discusses the challenges of living in a toxic environment, polluted with plastics and pesticides. Mesnage discusses how banning toxic substances (bis-phenol A, glyphosate) can lead to unfortunate substitutions with more toxic compounds. Finally, he speaks about the power of intermittent, and therapeutic fasting to combat common diseases that plague modern society. Related Websites: https://www.instagram.com/robin_mesnage/

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. But what if its impact on human health goes far beyond the plants it was designed to kill? In this episode of the ReThink Health Podcast, Dr. Stephanie Seneff and I dive into one of the most controversial and fascinating theories in modern health: the possible connection between glyphosate, glycine, and chronic disease. Glycine is an amino acid that plays a massive role in proteins, collagen, digestion, detoxification, immune function, and cellular repair. And according to Dr. Seneff's research, glyphosate's structural similarity to glycine may help explain why so many modern health issues are rising alongside increased glyphosate exposure. In this eye-opening conversation, we explore how glyphosate may impact the gut microbiome, where it hides in the food supply, and why glycine-rich foods like bone broth, collagen, and fermented foods may help support resilience. You'll learn: Why glyphosate was marketed as "safe" for humans… and why that explanation may be incomplete How glyphosate may disrupt the gut microbiome and contribute to digestive dysfunction The unexpected connection between glyphosate and glycine Which foods may contain the highest glyphosate residues, including a surprising category many people think of as healthy How quickly glyphosate levels may drop when switching to an organic diet Why fermented foods, sulfur-rich foods, and glycine-rich foods may help support the gut What deuterium is and why Dr. Seneff believes it may play a role in mitochondrial dysfunction If you've ever wondered why gut issues, food sensitivities, inflammatory conditions, and chronic disease seem to be rising so quickly… this episode offers a fascinating look at one possible missing piece. Her work explores the potential links between glyphosate exposure, gut microbiome disruption, mineral depletion, impaired detoxification, glycine interference, and rising rates of chronic illness. She is the author of Toxic Legacy, a book examining the history, science, and potential health consequences of glyphosate exposure. Dr. Seneff has published extensively on glyphosate, sulfur metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction, deuterium, gut health, and the biological mechanisms that may help explain today's chronic disease epidemic. This may be one of the most important podcasts I've ever shared. Carl Lanore sits down with Dr. Anthony Samsel to break down his research on glyphosate, why he believes it's contaminating the food supply, rainwater, human tissue, and even products people never expect — and why he thinks banning it is the only real solution.I've been looking into this for a while, and after hearing this conversation, I believe people need to hear it, talk about it, challenge it, research it, and figure out what we can actually do next. Strength is never a weakness. Weakness is never a strength.Special perks for our listeners below!
What if one of the most important health crises affecting men today wasn't being caused by aging, but by the environment we live in? In this eye-opening solo episode, Darin Olien investigates the alarming decline in testosterone levels, fertility, and reproductive health among men worldwide. Drawing on decades of research, epidemiological studies, environmental science, endocrinology, and public health data, Darin examines the growing evidence connecting endocrine-disrupting chemicals, microplastics, sleep deprivation, chronic stress, poor lifestyle habits, and environmental toxins to declining testosterone levels across generations. From BPA, phthalates, atrazine, PFAS, and microplastics to sleep quality, circadian rhythms, cholesterol metabolism, cortisol regulation, and natural testosterone-supporting strategies, this episode explores what may be one of the most underreported public health issues of our time—and what men can do to take control of their health today. What You'll Learn Why testosterone levels have been declining for decades The startling research on global sperm count decline How endocrine-disrupting chemicals interfere with hormone production Why BPA and phthalates may disrupt testosterone synthesis The role of atrazine, PFAS, and environmental toxins How chronic stress diverts resources away from testosterone production Why sleep may be the most important testosterone intervention The connection between cholesterol and hormone production How microplastics are being found throughout the human body The surprising relationship between statins and testosterone levels Natural lifestyle strategies that support healthy hormone production Practical steps to reduce environmental exposure and improve health Chapters 00:00:00 – Welcome to SuperLife 00:00:33 – Sponsor: Fatty15 and cellular health 00:04:17 – The testosterone collapse explained 00:04:51 – Testosterone levels have been declining for decades 00:06:03 – Global sperm count decline and accelerating trends 00:07:02 – Why treating symptoms misses the root cause 00:07:27 – The hidden public health crisis 00:08:03 – Why low testosterone isn't just about aging 00:09:12 – Why hormone health affects longevity 00:09:53 – Low testosterone and increased mortality risk 00:10:35 – Testosterone's role in metabolism and cardiovascular health 00:11:27 – Endocrine-disrupting chemicals and hormone disruption 00:12:44 – BPA and its effects on testosterone production 00:13:59 – Phthalates and their impact on hormone pathways 00:16:00 – Glyphosate, atrazine, and pesticide exposure 00:17:07 – PFAS and reproductive health concerns 00:17:55 – Environmental toxins and population-wide effects 00:18:11 – Sponsor: Shakeology 00:20:02 – Cholesterol and hormone production 00:20:53 – Chronic stress and cortisol dominance 00:21:45 – Actionable solutions begin 00:21:56 – Why sleep is essential for testosterone production 00:23:07 – How sleep deprivation rapidly lowers testosterone 00:23:21 – Light pollution and circadian disruption 00:23:41 – Foods and nutrients needed for hormone health 00:24:23 – Microplastics and testicular tissue 00:24:53 – Statins and unintended hormonal consequences 00:25:39 – A practical testosterone sovereignty protocol 00:25:48 – Water filtration and reducing toxic exposure 00:26:13 – Eliminating plastics and fragrance chemicals 00:26:35 – Why organic food matters 00:26:45 – Sunlight and vitamin D 00:27:05 – Magnesium, omega-3s, and iodine 00:27:26 – Pine pollen and natural androgen support 00:28:01 – Tongkat Ali and ashwagandha 00:28:48 – Strength training and lifestyle interventions 00:29:10 – Habits that naturally support testosterone 00:29:27 – Darin's approach to healthy aging 00:29:37 – Plants, herbs, and common sense 00:29:51 – Reclaiming your health and sovereignty 00:30:00 – Final thoughts and closing message Thank You to Our Sponsors Fatty15: Get an additional 15% off their 90-day subscription Starter Kit by going to fatty15.com/DARIN and using code DARIN at checkout. It may be a reflection of the modern environment itself—one increasingly saturated with endocrine-disrupting chemicals, chronic stress, poor sleep, circadian disruption, and toxic exposures. While many of these forces feel outside our control, the encouraging reality is that many of the most powerful interventions remain accessible: improving sleep, reducing toxic load, eating whole foods, getting sunlight, managing stress, exercising regularly, and reclaiming responsibility for our health. The goal isn't fear. The goal is awareness—and action." Bibliography/Sources: The Decline — Primary Research Levine, H., Jørgensen, N., Martino-Andrade, A., et al. (2022). Why does bread in Europe not bother your gut the way it does in the United States — and what does glyphosate have to do with Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, and other serious health conditions? If wheat and dairy trigger inflammation, fatigue, anxiety, or loose stools at home, why can they feel totally fine abroad? In this episode, I share what happened when I recently spent two weeks in Spain and Portugal and ate gluten after being gluten-free for 14 years. Instead of feeling bloated, irritable, and anxious like I normally would after eating gluten, I actually felt completely fine. That's right — no symptoms whatsoever. You've probably heard of others having similar experiences, but the science and history behind why this happens is fascinating. I explain why European wheat is different from U.S. wheat, and how the U.S. food system's agricultural and dairy practices have created a perfect storm of problems since at least 1996. We'll get into how glyphosate and other herbicides have infiltrated our food system, plus what the research says about gut bacteria disruption, intestinal permeability, and thyroid/endocrine impacts. There's also a very real connection between glyphosate and non-Hodgkin lymphoma that has led to hundreds of thousands of lawsuits. Then we talk dairy: why the EU banned synthetic growth hormones, fatty acid profiles (grass-fed vs. grain-fed), and how mold-contaminated feed can contribute to issues that I often see show up in toxin testing. This may all seem like bad news from the U.S. perspective, but there are still things we can do here to protect our health without missing out on the good things in life. One major benefit of living in the U.S. is that there are unlimited options, and there are many swaps we can make that avoid the toxins and inflammatory ingredients. And maybe, this is even the sign you need to take that much-deserved vacation to test out Europe's food system for yourself! You probably have a bottle of weed killer sitting in your garage right now. But do you actually know what's inside it? After years of controversy surrounding glyphosate, many manufacturers replaced it with new "glyphosate-free" formulas. The promise sounds great. But when I looked closer at the labels, I found something surprising. Some of these new products contain three or four active ingredients, including fast-acting contact herbicides, systemic grass killers, broadleaf herbicides, and even long-lasting soil residual chemistry. Today we're getting nerdy. We'll break down what these ingredients actually do, compare them to traditional glyphosate, and talk about the difference between a product being dangerous versus the actual risk of using it. What if the biggest threat to human health isn't hidden in our bloodwork, hormones, or genetics—but in the environment we've created around ourselves? Caroline Howell challenges the modern definition of health by arguing that true wellness cannot exist apart from the ecosystems that sustain us. From climate change and biodiversity loss to glyphosate, regenerative agriculture, longevity culture, and our growing disconnection from nature, this conversation explores what it means to become a positive contributor rather than an extractor. Caroline shares how leaving private equity and relocating to Panama transformed her health, purpose, and relationship with the natural world, while offering a hopeful vision for how technology, business, and human ingenuity can help regenerate life instead of depleting it.
